      Awesome! Thanks! Just wondering your thoughts on contest sites. I think they are great for practice and if you win you get some money. But at the same time do these kind of websites take away from yiur business?

    Thank you for sharing this with us will. I had a near similar situation for my first client after 4 years of graphic design in college. I charged him 50$ for a brand logo, and I was living in a HEAVILY tourist city in the US. Took me a few days to get it perfect, once it was all set and done the client himself said to me "you are worth A LOT more with what you do, and you do it well." He gave me $80 and a thank you (which for me was what changed my passion, the happiness you get from your client and seeing them grow with their businesses exceeds my interest for the profit) I had gained both the benefit of being payed good and the experience from it. Next thing I knew my email began a decent pile of potential clients, and I took things higher by making the price based on these factors and I made a name for myself with my own little brand of graphic design. The one thing I can tell others is to never be afraid of your own work: some may want to lower the prices for the sake of being good to their customer, but you just need to be good with what you give them; the rest will come to you.

    Great video, Will!
    Also, quick tip. Web presence can be a game changer (clients come to you, instead of you pursuing them). I got my first few clients from writing a LinkedIn article, having a TH-cam tutorial channel, and posting on Reddit. All quality clients.

    this video is like a gold mine to me , you and i share similar life experience, i used to be in a business school but i failed 3 years in a row, and i have never liked the subjects nor the classes, like at all..., so i had to drop out, but i always had that attraction towards designs and paintings since my childhood and i always been fascinated (too many contradictions i know) , long story short, recently ,i got signed in photoshop/illustrator accelerated education and now I'm doing fine , you made me more attached to this business and i'm loving it each day , plus I'm addicted to your videos now , I have been learning too much from each video that i have seen on your channel , you are like my idol , thank you for these videos and keep the good effort on , teacher :)

    I did my first client work when I was 15 (though it was pretty low end and nothing too serious). As of the last few months, I've been super invested in passive income before I start really heavily into client work and the next semester of college. This was super helpful, so thank you!

    I actually got my first two clients from my family a few months ago, my sister started up a little facebook shop to sell homemade candles and my father started up a window cleaning business. I hadn't actually done much of any graphic design before that as at university I was more specialised in 3D modelling, but I really loved everything about designing the brands of these two companies. Since then I have been brushing up on my skills and doing digital illustrations within illustrator to learn the software more comprehensively.
    My next step is securing more clients. My plan is to have a walk around my town and identify possible small business' which may be in need of a rebranding or modernisation and try to speak with the manager or business owner and leave a business card with them.

    Hey Will, could you do a dedicated video on how to approach local businesses? I live in a bit of a hub for small businesses, they almost outnumber the amount of residential buildings in my town so I'd love to be able to work for some of them but I have no idea how to go about it.
    Some of my concerns are:
    - What do I need to take with me?
    - Should I do some mock ups and the like specifically for that business?
    - All the businesses around me are already established and branded so what exactly can I offer them?

    Can you please make a video on how to deal with clients when they first contact you for a logo?
    I always have people contact me for logos but I don't know what are the things I should ask for. Also when and how should I present the pricing etc .. ?
    I'd really appreaciate it if you give us an idea!

    I have someone who my family who designs for Nike and big brands in my family (logos and designing apps) and I want to do something like him although I feel like as I’m not getting amazing grades I won’t be able to. Do u think I can?

    • @tristanking6684
      @tristanking6684 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Fangtwang yeah you can . Your school grades shouldn’t stop you from trying to attempt graphic designs. Do your best and if your best is a D in math. Then hey

    • @wserenam
      @wserenam 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      you dont need school grades to design graphics. however, you may need those grades if you decide to change your profession. no one keeps one job for the rest of their life, you know? you can definitely do some graphic designing in the background, but school IS important.

    Great content as usual.
    Can someone recommend me a good source for learning graphics design. I have learned a little but from TH-cam and even landed few clients but I'd like to develop my "instinct", for the lack of better word, further.
    I'm aware most of it comes from experience but is there anything else that I can do?
    I have also tried sites like Udemy.

    I hear some designers say to specialize and some say to learn everything. Any thoughts?

    • @ThermalGhost
      @ThermalGhost 6 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      learn everything because you will get a view for what you like and don't like, that's when you decide to specialize right you'll have tried designing different things then you'll get a feel for you love to design the most.

    • @Dgarays
      @Dgarays 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Specialize is good if you know what is your forte already I see it like doctors... not all doctors can operate open heart... or do brain surgery... because medicine is so broad that is nearly impossible for one to know it all in one lifetime... the same goes for design... I think we need to be specialized in an area of design even though we know a lil bit about the others. Only employers want a 25 year old person with 5 years of experience who knows everything from design to coding... 😂. We gotta get real everyone is good and best at something

    I’m so mad bc i had a company approach me offering me $1000+ to design them a logo whenever i’m in high school and an intermediate at best. As opposed to actually doing it i psyched myself out and put it off until it was too late. Really regret that.
