Great videos! I’ve been welding and doing fab work for almost 30 years. I’ve never had any official welding education but was taught by experienced welders and fabricators on the jobs coming up. I wouldn’t change a thing. Hands on experience is the best way for some. Keep the great videos coming man! You’re helping so many people trying to learn!

I really learned something watching this. I enjoyed especially the technical aspects of squaring up the axle to the tongue. That extra step in showing how to take the measurement was a huge help. Great video. Well done .

@@arosswelding hi! how can I weld 2x2 cm (0,8x0,8 inch) steel square rod? I am making a grate. can I use MIG or should I use MMA? what size of MMA rod or MIG wire to use and what settings? I can only use up to 120A, because the power circuit at the place I am welding cannot handle more amps.

Hey “A” man, I’ve done that job too, almost the exact same way.
I also wanted to give an update on the first gates I hung (ever) , and the jacks that you have, I made my own. They worked perfectly. The guy that was helping me thought it was the greatest thing to use. Thank you for such a great, simple concept to make these jobs so much easier. By the way, the owner loved them.

Austin I love your videos. I'm in Oklahoma, as well, but I work in an office every day. I've learned to weld by watching YT videos from guys like you. I'm contemplating building a trailer to mount a smoker and this is the kind of thing I need to see. Thanks a ton for posting all your content! I wish I could make a living doing stuff like this - outside, working with my hands and actually CREATING things! Alas, however, it is not to be, I will have to keep doing it as a hobby as time allows. Thanks again for all you do and share!

This is my suggestion and why. In any mitre join of tubing of the same size, you should always halve the angle. Otherwise you will have a gaping hole to fill in the piece that has the most acute angle. For example, with a cut of 45 degrees, the face of the material will be 41% longer than the cross section of the material. From an engineering perspective, the weld under the frame should be made to maintain the strength of the joint. A small, say 1/4" hole at each end of the tubing will suffice for any drainage without weakening the frame. I have enjoyed many of your videos and have learned some welding tricks from you. Keep up the good work.

having seen video's of vehicles with tube frames rusting out, i would put a spray tube in the length of the tubing to rinse out and drain away any salt residue with a simple hose hookup maybe twice a year or weekly in the "salt" zones.

Enjoy all your welding videos. I’ve welded a couple trailers for myself, friends and family and learned to add diagonal bracing between the tongue and headboard/rail.
While I know not to overload a trailer based on its axle/spring rating, it’s inevitable a friend/family will borrow the trailer, “accidentally” overload it and hit a dip in the road and bend the tongue.

Mark center of the trailer frame left to right.
Clamp a piece of sq. tube or rec. tube center on your mark and have it long enough to go past the coupler. Make sure its square with the frame of the trailer and 90 degrees with the axle.
Then you can " square " the two sides of the tongue off that tube.

@@arosswelding Definitely understand the time component, but I do wonder if the parts side is a supply chain related issue or a regional thing. The Curt 25217 Bulldog-style couplers usually run around $60-$70 from Amazon, while the one that came off appears to be a standard generic a-frame coupler ($25-$35). Amazing how thing fluctuate over the course of a few months and a few hundred miles.

Keep steady motion when trying to start, if still sticking in place up your amps a little at a time or poor ground contact. Finally try reversing your ground polarity if able on your machine. Positive is your hotter side - positive ground means your stick is cooler than your work piece.

Im putting new inner cross beams in my old trailer. 2x3” tubing but Im having a hard time welding the underside of where the beam attaches to to the side rail.
All existing beams are welded all around.
Im in a state that uses salt and the trailer stays outside. Would I be OK not to weld that bottom seam?

Why not use 6010 for tacking rather than 6011? For me personally 6011 creates a light slag and causes it to arc kind of bad in comparison of the smooth 6010? Just want to hear your opinion on it.

Could you give me an idea of how much it costs to run an Oxy Acet, torch, per inch or per foot?

I love your videos. I learn something in each video. That poor trailer is going to tear off “right aft” of your last weld and you’ll have to rebuild the rest of it.

Should safety chains be welded to the frame of a trailer or can I bolt them on?

I think they replace the leafspring for some shorter ones and the shackles are inverted
