Hensley seems so smart and bright! I think that the travel/exploring has benefitted her education as well as created family memories. Her school is experiencing life instead of just reading about life. I would have enjoyed having that kind of schooling when I was a child!
The people that say there is no point in taking children on adventures like this when they are wrong don't know what they are talking about. When my sisters and I were very young (55+ years ago), they took us camping every summer. First in a tent, then a pop up camper, then a couple different pull-behind campers. While I don't remember everything, I DO remember the feeling of adventure! I remember climbing the rocks in Joshua tree when I was probably 4 or 5. Seeing snow 20 feet high in Crater Lake. Driving through a redwood tree. Waterfalls in Yosemite. The geysers & mudpots in Yellowstone. Salt flats of Death Valley (I think). So many bits and pieces of all the things we did before I was 8 years old. And many after that (until we became teenagers and didn't want to go camping anymore, haha). I wish there were videos like you are making to look back on. You are giving your children what few children are lucky enough to get these days - adventure after adventure, and a sense of wonder for all the beauty of the United States! They will so appreciate it when they are older, just as my sisters and I do. Journey on!!
What a beautiful place! Marissa, Hensley looks so much like you, when you were little. We have been watching you all since you started traveling. Those 2 babies will remember the time that you spent with them. They will grow so fast and before you know it, they will be making you all grandparents. We were not able to RV full time, with our kids but took them so many cool places in our RV. We made fantastic memories and now they are grown. It goes fast! Enjoy!
Your children may not remember every detail of every experience you have shared, but you see how much they enjoy it. You’re providing a rich life of experiences, most adults only dream of. They remember more than you think and it’s deep 😊.
Your "Blacksmith Area" question - The item is a "Bellows" and was used to stoke the smith's fire (blows additional oxygen in to promote combustion) to get the coals hot enough to forge iron.
We live in North Idaho and love Redfish Lake and vicinity. Hubby and I have backpacked, camped and stayed in the cabins over the years. It is a magical place to explore. We enjoyed the town of Stanley. Huckleberry ice cream is excellent. We also spent a few days picking huckleberries for our pancakes and muffins. Ask a local what they look like. Your videos are always great. It’s great that you have kids to share with on your trips.
my grandparents in Oklahoma farm country had a bellows by the fireplace and the wood stove. Used to increase the air flow into the fire to make it burn faster and hotter.
I have spent a lot of time in the Stanley area, one of the most beautiful areas I have ever seen. Nice to be able to go there often, at least in the summer and fall, never gets old...
Aw Marissa I started to cry when you talked about your dad. And going to Stanley in honor of him. That is so sweet. Stanley is a cute little town. Nice place to go see and kayak and swim and hike. Thank you for taking me on this journey with you. So glad you came here. This is what it’s all about going on that journey. Exploring things and places you have never heard of. I have never heard of Stanley Idaho. I’m so glad you took me there. Love you and I hope you have a great week and stay safe and safe travels.
Beautiful video!! The mountains are majestic!! So breath taken! I Miss travelling so much. Thank you for sharing your beautiful experiences. The kids are growing up so fast!
We lived in Hailey Idaho till 2012 and love Stanley and Red Fish Lake. The bakery was awesome in Stanley. Glad you got to experience the area. The land and houses there are outrageously high.
Good luck with your fold up kayak. We have 2, they do safe space. They are not especially comfortable. We have not tried taking the dogs in them. But maybe we could. I prefer the regular kayaks, but with changing to stadium seats the ones we have work. The thing you didn’t know what was a pillage you fill with air and use the handles to compress it. On compression it blows air, oxygen, into your fire to increase the fire temperature. Just in case you need to know in one shot the silver colored bowl thing is a cream separator. Thank you for adding another trip to my bucket list.
Idaho is my FAVORITE state!! It is stunningly beautiful. My husband grew up in Idaho and Redfish Lake was his childhood camping area- back in the day BEFORE the masses took over! His family had many memorable vacations of swimming/boating/camping at Redfish Lake.
So fun to watch these episodes. We have lived in Hailey, Idaho for 30 years, which is just outside of Sun Valley and an hour from Stanley. We recently have moved to Twin Falls. You are correct, this is a wonderful area. We sure wish we would have been able to see you guys while you were here. We love your channel. Be blessed!!
It's definitely surprising the things kids remember, and honestly even if they don't remember that specific hike or kayak, the warm fuzziness of time spent with you will always be in their heart. ❤ I just got an Oru Kayak for my birthday, and I LOVE it! Even I can carry it and set it up. No husband needed. 😜 You all have totally convinced us to go to Stanley, Idaho!😜 Great Video! 🤩
@@LessJunkMoreJourney We are excited to explore it more. We've literally only driven through the tippy top on our way from Glacier NP to Mount Rainier NP.
It’s a giant bellows used in metal works. You separate the handles and it breathe in air then when you close the handle the air blows in to fire you make it hotter. I love Stanley. I used to live in Fairfield, Idaho. Go through there. It’s south of Sun Valley. 385 people! ❤
Wow! Thanks for a great video! We passed through there on the way to Glacier NP, in the summer of '22, I had no idea what we missed. We ill have to go back there again. The pass through the Saw Tooth Mountains was amazing! ID in general, seems to be the best kept secret... I loved driving down the million dollar hwy on our 38' rig plus towed, especially descending down into Ouray. On a couple of the really sharp and steep switchbacks, before Ironton, I was geared right down to 1st. Lol. The nice thing about having to go slow through the switchbacks, is it lets you have a chance to enjoy the scenery. I loved the reading books analogy, spot on! When it comes to learning, you can't beat hands on experience, and your kids are blessed to have that experience and way of life, even though they might not realize that till their are adults. Safe Travels!
Back in the late 1980s my wife and I dropped out of the rat race and lived full time in a motorhome. We spent many pleasurable days boondocking around Stanley. Wonderful place. Far away from the cares of this world. Beautiful views. Hot springs at the end of the day. Gorgeous mountain vistas.
Stanley area and the Sawtooths are indeed beautiful! I've only been there once for one night and stayed at the hotel next to the restaurant where the breakfast was great. Those sure looked like Huckleberries, they are a wild kind of low growing blueberry. Bless y'all for investing in your children and homeschooling them. Hensley knows more about the outdoors than a lot of adults I have met. They are so fortunate to have parents like you, I pray the same for every child.
The item you were looking at is called a bellows. Blacksmiths used them to push air into their fires to burn bigger and hotter. A friend of mine has an Oru Kayak and she has a rudder/skeg that attaches to the back bottom to make her kayak track better, instead of going side to side with each paddle thrust. Stanley, ID is official now on my bucket list - mountains and water for the win! Thanks so much for sharing this - what a special place.
The kids made me giggle so much in this one. You, too, Nathan, sharing your story about the folding kayak. We know about tight spaces at the campground we're at right now, which is Terrace Pines in Ossipee NH. Super narrow dirt back roads and most campground roads too, but we made it! Idaho is now on my radar for a future road trip.
Hensley, I never got to meet either on of my grandfathers and only met one grandmother one time, so it does happen to other people. Treasure the time you have with your grandparents now so you'll always have memories of the. As for Stanley ID it looks awesome. That big thing on the wall is a bellows. You use it ti blow air into the fire when you are heating iron. Keep the good stuff coming guys and give the kids a hug for me.
Don't tell our secrets! This is my heaven on earth. We were just there a few weeks ago. I wonder if we just missed you. It would have been awesome to cross paths since I have been following you for years.
We live in North Idaho and recognized your video showing Redfish Lake. My husband and I love that area and the town of Stanley. Huckleberries are awesome when in season. We have hiked, camped, backpacked in the Sawtooths😀
That big thing in the museum is a bellows. They were used to keep the fire going in the blacksmith shop. It has been over 50 yrs since I have been to Stanley. All I remember was how good the fishing was.
My wife and I did a 5 day backpacking trip from Petit lake to Redfish lake. Man was that boat at the end a life saver. The Sawtooth Mountains are amazing!
I'm positive I was in Kindergarten and we went to Salmon ID to visit my dad's uncle and cousin. Our family always went to Florida for our summer vacation so this my first memories of seeing mountains. It would have been '69 or '70. My dad had an 8mm movie camera and I probably still have the old movies of us at a roadside patch of snow in the mountains In the film my older brothers are throwing snowballs at my mom. They are wearing shorts and it's June or July. We visited Yellowstone along the way. My dad's cousin took us way up in the mountains to visit an old gold mine. That memory stuck in my head for a long time. In the mid 90's when I bought my first pop-up camper it was always a vacation out west. I have since been back to the site of that old mine 2-3 times. You need a jeep, atv or trail bike to get there today. There's one old cabin still up there that my dad took a picture of us kids playing.
This is one our favorite places to go. One place within 15 miles is the Yankee Fork gold dredge. Impressive when you realize the thing was taken in on pack animals.
No…….we don’t want anyone to know!,,, we live one hour south of there in the summer. Enjoy! We were there the third week of August. Love the chocolate croissants!you should go to Hiawatha bike trail.
Ah we love Stanley, ID. Stayed there 3 years ago and miss it so much. Thanks for bringing back the memories. PS: We’ve watched your channel since your daughter was an infant. Remember y’all being at Joshua Tree when she was a baby
Nathan I was laughing so hard at the face you were making with the huckleberry you ate. Love huckleberry jam! My grandmother always made that and others. I love that waterfall. They are so calming to listen too!
Interesting to watch your fold up kayak experience. A friend talked me into using one of hers, likely an older different brand (Tuctec). In a bay along the Gulf of Mexico in Texas. It worked fine for a short distance. Then water started coming in pretty quickly and I was sinking. Was able to get out and manually pull the kayak full of water back to shore. Fortunately the bay water was not really deep. A hook had come undone. We reassembled it, did a quick test and I took it back out. Short distance from shore water again came in quickly and the hook had come undone again. Party over. Not sold on fold up kayaks. And really happy I wasn’t in deep water. I’ll be curious how yours works for you going forward. Loved the video. We’re going to Idaho for our 50th wedding anniversary next summer. Might need to take a side trip to Stanley area.
The coldest city in the continental 48 states is Grand Forks North Dakota and we've been there when it was -50 actual temp. That determination is based upon a yearly average. Our daughter's family lived there for 3 years. The Dakotas are some of the most diverse scenery there is from the badlands to the Black hills.
Woo hoo it’s Sunday! Your videos are watched by us many times on the day they come out. We now have a new place to visit…I think we will like it in Stanley, Idaho.
Such a beautiful area! Enjoyed sharing this/seeing this through your family’s point of view, thank you so much! I look forward to getting to camp and explore here! The Momentum, Buzz&Woody (our dogs) and my husband are ready! 😊
That big oval thing is a bellow for the Blacksmiths forge, to get the fire hotter. It opens like a squeeze box or accordion, and you squeeze it back together and air shoots out the nozzle. We will be camping at Clabough’s CG., the weekend before your huddle in Pigeon Forge, or I would get tickets. Maybe some other time or place. Safe travels!
HI Guys, I saw on your post about having a difficult pumping your inflatables. Four our blow up Paddle board & our Kayak, we use a Makita Blower. Fill to the max pressure it will fill to. Then pump the rest. Saves a ton of time. Also the blower is great for blowing off the slides when it is dry, and blowing off the rug outside before putting it away. Just a thought. BTW, love your videos and also the web site you have created for everyone to keep in contact while on the road. We are part time, and retired. We bring our grandkids with us often. Maybe someday we will see you on the road. Sending From California, Yours truly Michelle House
What you were asking about is a "bellows"; to add forced air to a fire to make it hotter. Just curios; we have a ViAir pump that we carry on our travels for airing up low tires.....I wonder if that would fill up your kayak? Compact, hooks right your battery with 50+ feet of coiled air hose. Just a thought.
Saw Tooth Mountains Range is one of favorite areas, including hanging out around Stanley. Spent a week and half there last July. Awesome place. Thanks for taking me back. 🤠
Been there a couple of times as we do not live too awful far away. Ironically I was looking at a few photos this morning of the hike we took & I was photographing the changes in colors of the Aspens just before watching this.
We are currently in Arco, ID and we checked out Craters of the Moon National Monument nearby. Pretty cool place… but nothing like Stanley! We definitely will make it a priority next time in ID. Thanks for the video and as always the wonderful details of your journey! Be safe!
Gorgeous country! We love our Oru kayaks too. You made me cry talking about your Daddy. Totally understand. Love your videos and your personalities. We came through Cookeville Friday (Sept 29) on our way from SD home to Western NC and thought of you guys.
Gorgeous area! I think having a temperature reading gun-thing would be worth it for any thermal water - eek. We've driven through Idaho twice, but sadly zipped through both times. Obviously, we need to go back! Our RV is small and we still have some of those "yikes" exits. Spent an hour getting out of my ex-boss's circular driveway.
Stanley is great. Keep in mind It DO get cold. One of the coldest places in the lower 48 on a consistent basis, along with Gunnison, Colo. and a few other places. Not as windy/cold as a few spots in Wyoming.
There are so many places to explore in Oregon. Crater Lake NP. Bend has the longest lava tube anywhere, and the lava cast forest is amazing. The coast is beautiful. Check out Thors well, spouting horn. The biggest sea lion cave, along with amazing sun sets. Quaint little towns off hwy 101, Charleston, Yahats, to name a few.
Cougar and mountain lion are the same thing and yes they are in the sawtooths. Funny you say it’s not over run, in the 80s we would do family trips to red fish lake, the campgrounds were never full. I go now and it’s so overcrowded. It was my favorite campground.
@@LessJunkMoreJourney I do agree that just about everywhere has more use than it did 40 years ago. Idahos campgrounds have been busy for years but never impossible to score a spot, until around 15 years ago they switched from a state ran reservation system to the Reserve America now it is difficult at best to get a spot.
I had no idea Idaho had so many hotsprings. I'm in Pocatello right now. If you make it up to Idaho Falls, that town has a great riverfront area and Japanese garden in the same area that are great to visit. The Walmart just down the street allows RV overnighting too.
They're called bellows. They can heat up flames on a boiler or smelter... they were also used to pump air into the mines after a collapse in hopes of keeping any survivors alive until rescue could be made. How do you like the temperature of the lake 😂... I didn't warn my Mississippi born husband that it's glacier melt and let him walk right in to fish😂😂😂 He was amazed at the water clarity
Bellow. Looks like a bellow to blow air into a fire. Loved seeing this part of our country through your trip!
Probably for a forge
You said it was in the blacksmith area. It would blow air on the coals to heat up the metal the blacksmith makes onto things

Stanley looked very cool. That big bellows was usually set up in a blacksmith shop to get the fires hot.

Such a beautiful area! Enjoyed sharing this/seeing this through your family’s point of view, thank you so much! I look forward to getting to camp and explore here! The Momentum, Buzz&Woody (our dogs) and my husband are ready! 😊
Thank you so much!
Thank you
Fun watching your little boy growing.
The purple berry was a huckleberry. They grow under the leaves and have a “star” like shape on bottom side of berry .
Maybe that big bellows could pump up your paddle board. LOL
😂😂😂
Heading to Stanley tomorrow in our new RV. It is one of my favorite places on the planet and I go at least once every summer.
That’s amazing 🤩
Awesome, thanks for watching.
JJ needs a bigger ice cream cone!!🍦🍦🍦
Love your videos. Thanks for letting us tag along.
Thanks for watching!
Thank you for sharing this trip. We have added it to our bucket list.
You should! We loved it. 😀
This area looks amazing! We will have to keep this one in mind next time we are in the area!
I also recommend McCall Idaho & Bear Lake. Love redfish though. Not many people there. And is close to Sun Valley.
Very beautiful 😊👍🍀
Thank you very much
What you were asking about is a "bellows"; to add forced air to a fire to make it hotter. Just curios; we have a ViAir pump that we carry on our travels for airing up low tires.....I wonder if that would fill up your kayak? Compact, hooks right your battery with 50+ feet of coiled air hose. Just a thought.
Marissa, I’m so sorry that your father passed away so young. I’m sure he is smiling down at y’all and so happy to see you living your dream! ❤
Thank you.
Saw Tooth Mountains Range is one of favorite areas, including hanging out around Stanley. Spent a week and half there last July. Awesome place. Thanks for taking me back. 🤠
You are so welcome 😀
My Grandfather was Stanley, my Dad is Stanley and my brother is Stanley. It seems fitting to visit Stanley!
My dad’s name was Stanley too!
The item in the museum looks like a bellows to me. Looks like an amazing place to check out!
Been there a couple of times as we do not live too awful far away. Ironically I was looking at a few photos this morning of the hike we took & I was photographing the changes in colors of the Aspens just before watching this.
It’s a bellows to blow air on a fire to make it burn hotter.usually used it blacksmith shop.beautiful video.
We stayed at Stanley RV park last month! We hiked to Sawtooth Lake. It is a beautiful area.
We are currently in Arco, ID and we checked out Craters of the Moon National Monument nearby. Pretty cool place… but nothing like Stanley! We definitely will make it a priority next time in ID. Thanks for the video and as always the wonderful details of your journey! Be safe!
Sounds great, thanks for watching.
Gorgeous country! We love our Oru kayaks too. You made me cry talking about your Daddy. Totally understand. Love your videos and your personalities. We came through Cookeville Friday (Sept 29) on our way from SD home to Western NC and thought of you guys.
Thanks for watching
Gorgeous area! I think having a temperature reading gun-thing would be worth it for any thermal water - eek. We've driven through Idaho twice, but sadly zipped through both times. Obviously, we need to go back! Our RV is small and we still have some of those "yikes" exits. Spent an hour getting out of my ex-boss's circular driveway.
What a fabulous video 😊 felt the peace and serenity with you. Beautiful scenery. Pity about the winters though 😁
So glad you enjoyed it.
Stanley is great. Keep in mind It DO get cold. One of the coldest places in the lower 48 on a consistent basis, along with Gunnison, Colo. and a few other places. Not as windy/cold as a few spots in Wyoming.
Thanks!
Amazing - We have a new place to visit. TYVM
Another great video!! Love watching your content!
Thank you so much.
That object is a bellow. You pump it and it adds air to a forge fire to heat up the temperature.
That’s one beautiful part of the country that I’ve never seen. How’d I miss that? Thanks for taking me along.
Thanks for watching
Boy that looks like a town to go and visit and RV at. Thank you for sharing.
You bet
Love your guys positivity and fun
I remember jumping into the 104 degree pool up in Banff NP in 1957. I was 11. They will remember plenty.
What are you eating there? "CHOCKT" ice-cream. As JJ wipes it off his chin on to his pants :) Y'all are so fun to watch.
😂😂😂
There are so many places to explore in Oregon. Crater Lake NP. Bend has the longest lava tube anywhere, and the lava cast forest is amazing. The coast is beautiful. Check out Thors well, spouting horn. The biggest sea lion cave, along with amazing sun sets. Quaint little towns off hwy 101, Charleston, Yahats, to name a few.
Oregon is great!
Stanley looks like a Very beautiful and tranquil place.❤🇬🇧
It really is.
Wow that was beautiful and looked like so much fun!
It was! Thank you for watching.
Best kept secret ever! My family has had a cabin in Stanley for 30 years!
Awesome 👏🏻
Cougar and mountain lion are the same thing and yes they are in the sawtooths.
Funny you say it’s not over run, in the 80s we would do family trips to red fish lake, the campgrounds were never full. I go now and it’s so overcrowded. It was my favorite campground.
I think by comparison most things are a lot more busy and accessible now a days.
Huckleberry milkshakes are so good! In fact, you could have gotten one when you were in Coeur d’Alene
I had no idea Idaho had so many hotsprings. I'm in Pocatello right now. If you make it up to Idaho Falls, that town has a great riverfront area and Japanese garden in the same area that are great to visit. The Walmart just down the street allows RV overnighting too.
Idaho is amazing.
They're called bellows. They can heat up flames on a boiler or smelter... they were also used to pump air into the mines after a collapse in hopes of keeping any survivors alive until rescue could be made. How do you like the temperature of the lake 😂... I didn't warn my Mississippi born husband that it's glacier melt and let him walk right in to fish😂😂😂
He was amazed at the water clarity
That bellows would have solved your inflatable kayak problems! 😂 Also, enjoyed the camera view from the top of the camper!
True!!
