That VR clip is a classic. Great games and I was really into CarnEvil in college as the break room had that cab and I was so happy when I spent 5 bucks in quarters to beat it.
I’ll second Wizard of Wor. And although they weren’t all that scary, Space Gun and Beast Busters were great “back in the day”. I have yet to experience Carnevil. The only one I’ve ever seen was “out of order”. I have played Chiller under emulation. That game is SICK,SICK, SICK!!!!!!!
Ralph I own CHILLER/Crossbow and love it. Also a Ghouls and Ghosts. I remember Chiller didn't last long in the arcade back in the 80's. As a kid I'll never forget the time me and my friend were playing and his mom came in the arcade and was watching him play Chiller and was freaking out going what the heck is this game!
@@RetroRalph an original Crossbow that I restored with an original Crossbow pcb. But I also added an Exidy multi pcb that plays all the Exidy shooters faithful to the ROMs in it. So I can play Chiller as well.
you don't know how long ive watied for someone to talk about carnEvil when i was a kid it was at my local small town truckstop, then years later in highschool it was at a hotel i was staying at me and another kid beat it that night
The scariest game is Sinistar, That game you don't even have to play the attract mode made the hairs on the back of the neck stand up. You could hear it taunting as you tried to play other games. The vocals have carved themselves onto my physie through this very day.

Another game is Thrill Kill it was not released there were five copies out there some I was lucky enough to play it. It has a Mortal Kombat finishers with some gory moves I don't remember that well the graphics this was back in the 90's. Oh ya don't forget Sinistar with his scary voice. It's house of the Dead, and I remember when I first saw it, and Zombies and other were coming right towards you, I felt like I was going to get a heart attack sooner or later. CarnEvil was twice as heart pounding when I first saw it. I would say that they should make a movie out of it, but if they did, it would probably turn out bad like most video game movies do.

The best way to adapt a video game into a movie or even a TV show is to be inspired by the game itself along with its characters, take its concept and create your own original story just using the game characters and premise. If I were to pick a director for a Carnevil movie, I would say Sam Rami, the director of the Evil Dead movies and the original Spiderman trilogy mainly because he would be able to pull off the violence & gore along with the awkward cheese that the arcade cult classic is known for. 🤡🔫

Great video! A personal favorite of mine that's not on your list is Wizard of Wor. One of earliest, most eerie games out there. The early 1980s speech is very haunting, with the constant background noise and amazing sounds overall. It also has 3 sound channels, which gives a very immersive feel to the game. With the overall artwork and theme, it's a very creepy (but amazing) game!

I personally owned Dark Escape 4d, and I'd say its one of the scariest games ever. Surround sound, 3d, heart beat sensors, seat shakers, it's a full environmental with air cannons and lots of 'heart' pounding action. Read jump scares. It's still out in arcades for you to see and enjoy.

Quarter muncher. :) There's an interview out there with some of the Carnevil devs where they discuss the moment they named the end boss, "Professor Ludwig von Tökkentäkker". During testing one of the team had said "it's a real token taker!" and they went with it. Great game.

You know I never was an easy one to scare. I remember fatal frame being really fun, not scary. I laughed when the dog jumped out the window in resident evil. Teabagging nurses in Silent Hill and having fun making Pyramid head chase me in circles. Blame it on working in a video store when faces of death started coming out. But, I say that to say this. Call of Cthulu for original Xbox was the most frightening experience of my gaming history. The way its world effected your characters sanity, the suicide clause, no real weapons, and no idea wtf is actually going on was the perfect mix to make the greatest horror game ever created. Dead Space comes in second for obvious reasons. 🤜🤛

Splatterhouse was sincerely the one game that freaked me out as a kid. Only one arcade had it in Indianapolis, and the imagery is just horrific.
Ghosts 'N Goblins was definitely scary, but I'd put Ghouls 'N Ghosts a notch above it in that regard, overall. =D

Just curious, what kind of light gun are you using to play on your flat screen TV? How well does it work?
It's the Gun4IR but the Sinden lightgun is also a great option. It's probably a bit easeir to setup but I like both options.
