Game choices and availability was fewer. Not to mention it was more expensive to buy games back then without Steam sales and HumbleBundles. Either you got gud or you stopped playing games most of the time.
Gotta love the Contra series’ use of homages. We knew to expect the xenomorph-like creatures and Giger-inspired organic landscapes, but then it made sense to also throw in something else… giant Terminators! It seemed to suggest that it was all part of the same sci-fi horror universe.
After the red one dies they should have enabled the blue one to shoot at the walls and ceiling, since it’s the last one. If the blue one got destroyed first the red one should have been able to move twice as fast. If only there was a harder difficulty.
I don't know if anyone ever thought of this, but there's no way the Contra heroes could have won if their guns didn't have infinite ammunition. That goes for a lot of run-and-gun games, really.
