Met a man who started to talk with me: "jeezes that lil thing is a beast" wtf i just bought for my kid for xxx a Trucky and it is lit. full plastic, lil engine, not replaceable etc etc...he was falling lit. from chair showcasing 144001 inner parts "This is all over metal/Alu...and you can replace any parts...wtf" We talked and i showed him videos... "i will get my kid one of THIS for this price...unbelievable" I ordered 2x 124018 buggy with extra "Paddle & Truck tieres" & upgrade packs + 2x 2S way bigger batteries. . Can not wait to bash arround with it 😎 PS: i know i should also upgrade the "ESC" but not sure which one i should go for?!
Hi buddy. You have to differ between those cars. While i love our 144001 cars... They are *Allrounders* not the best basher basher nore racer racer nore Track Track star. The 104 001 is a better balanced car, for TRACK driving. Better jump/inAir stability, better in driving curves faster...Speed is not all on the Track. This RC car truely atacks the big current comps like the: *Team Associated Team RC18 B2* _4 WD_ This car aims to those drivers. Able with a lot of space, to offer a great and cheap platform to build up a own Track RC. As we have seen, WLtoys do *constant* improve their RC cars, learning from mistakes. And i guess we will see over the years better and better cars for each of their designed jobs. Cheers
Personally I think you have nailed it ! It’s now a useable buggy, plenty of acceleration throughout the range 👍and the 33 mph is enough for top end I think 🤔 I never wanna go any faster than 35/40 but want enough punch to drift out of corners, so to me it is a success, however I am on the fence about putting more money into yet another conversion when you can buy right in the first place, yes they are a good platform but look what ya can buy for £200 ? Plenty of brushless set ups for the taking, great upload as usual thanks 🙏
Thank you! I think 33mph is a respectable speed and as mentioned in this video the purpose of this buggy is to be used off road and on track not a speed run car. I know a lot of people will be building speed run cars out of it but for anyone who just wants a useable and durable buggy this is a great option especially on this sort of brushless setup nothing too extreme. Look, everyone is ranting over the 10 4 being underspec'd and that they missed an opportunity to trump the 14 4. You dont buy a VW Golf and expect to compete with supercars. But those who see potential in the lil Golf will buy it, and then enjoy spending time and resources upgrading and improving on the car. So that when she pulls up next to the A45s on the drag strip, everyone's in for a surprise😉

Good video. This would be a great car for some that is not a beginner and has spare brushless systems laying around. The only other changes I would make would be tires and use Associated links and ball studs plus diff fluid tuning

I've really been enjoying the Wl toys cars. They are nice for what they are. I have Traxxas and Arrma, but when I want some light fun wl toys is the ticket. I just ordered a 104001 and a cheap brushless kit from the same place. That might be my first actual video.
True it’s all about doing the conversions yourself so you get to know your car and how it works. Also you can get a good brushless motor and 60amp esc for £30 drop it in your cheap WLToys whatever and your away. I’m not sold on this car though?? I think it needs better tyres like you’ve done and even a brace from shock tower to tower?? It’s a bit flexible if you hold it up n give it a bend slightly n that will not damage your car. I think the gearing needs changing as it doesn’t seem to be a speed run car with stock gearing in it?? Good video I’m watching as many as I can about this car to decide which way to go with it?? I agree. Many would say dont bother get RTR LC Racing or similar but think it really does depend on what you enjoy doing. Better tyres is a must the difference was noticeable straight away. I have seen that the chassis does bend and believe people are working on a top deck to help prevent this. Gearing wise its under geared out the box due to them using the same electronics as the smaller cars which has been done to help with stress/heat on the components but this means its slow! A lot is required to make it a worthy speed run car and does make you wonder is it worth it when there are other options out there but saying that its the best handling and suspension setup i have seen so far in the wltoys range. I have noticed it doesnt have a lot of fans and its understandable. I think i will be going back to stock electronics and just using it as a reliable off road basher :/
@@beyondRC your defo right in what your saying, there trying the 1/10 scale market coz everyone was asking for it!! But I think it doesn’t quite work? I’m glad for your knowledge on the handling etc....but think I’m gonna give it a miss. You can get a 144001 and get 50-70mph out of it for an extra £40 and the cars are selling for less than £60 now so your talking £100 all in for a fast car that you can speed run? Or bash? Just by upgrading to brushless n changing your wheels depending on conditions, good vid as ever mate n more knowledge 4us all 👍

This could have given it potential to become the no 1 cheap RC and beat the 144001 when it comes to price & Performance. They missed a trick with this one which is a shame. Offering this as a rolling chassis would have also been a great idea as most will rip out the electronics and replace anyway. Going forward I think changes have to be made with future vehicles otherwise people will venture off to the bigger well known brands. Give us what we want WLTOYS and also name the cars instead of all the numbers! Don't want to put anyone off from buying one its just not as good as it could have been.

For what I would use it for I think the upgrade is spot on! And that would just be hitting the bashing track, (not full on race track) it’s not the fastest by far but looks like it’s still great fun and let’s face that’s what it’s about. Decent RC I say, would like one myself. Also brilliant vid mate, really liking your channel can see it going so much further. 🤙

Its not always about speed and this handles like a dream with that little bit of extra power can see it being very good on a track. Really appreciate that! #Roadto10k
100% on stock electronics i felt myself craving a little extra power. But i agree its perfectly fine stock if the intention is to run off road/track and just want a durable basher!
That seems a lot faster than it is. Also Surpass makes some great budget motors. I'm glad you didn't go with a Surpass Esc as I've had issues with them.
I have heard about the issues with the surpass esc's! That's why I paid a little extra for a hobbywing max 10 which is a great little esc and still at a good price! Cheers 😎👍
Dang, you really let loose on the wet dirt, the 104001 is so dirty! I can't stand getting my car super dirty or leaving it dirty, it one of my pet peeves. I've have 2 sets of homemade mudguards/shields on my 144001.
@@beyondRC You have an air compressor I assume? That would be super handy, I don't have one, so I grab my trusty old RC-use-only toothbrush, and start cleaning. Q tips help in tight spots.
I've literally paid 100 extra dollars to the scalpers on ebay...who are probably the reason I wasn't able to get my dang birthday present via banggood...they bought em all...considering its basically an xray 2016 clone though with slightly cheaper materials id say its pretty worth. I bet a lot of the parts are gonna fit too so we can just buy xray upgrades. If its slow, its because you didn't put the right brushless for the gearing. Lol. Its just... buggies like this are cheaper than the kits, and if we start with this and some brushless gear we can upgrade to race ready and actually compete for under a grand. Pre-upgrade its slow because they went torquey on the gearing because of the motor and esc combo, it was designed for the lighter 14th scale cars, this is heavier.
Some good points and I did mention in the video that it's the stock gearing with a bigger pinion I have no doubt this could reach over 40mph on this setup. Cheers 👍
That was good I've just got one and I've ordered max esc got motor coming all ready 3650kv I think, so hopefully should b like ur one I may put a bigger pinion in the middle then we shall c, so thanks for ur vid very pleased???
You need to try it on 3S - not really worth doing the brushless conversion but only running it on 2S On 3S, it should be close to 50mph - which would be ok for a cheap 1/10 scale buggy
Hi i have a question so i have the budget to buy the 104001 and the 124019 im a bit worried of the chassis flex of the 104001 so do i go for the 124019 or the 104001? 😊 And also will it run 3s stock?😊❤️
its worth checking out the new 104002 which is brushless RTR and due for release soon. But if you cant wait both trucks mentioned are excellent choices apart from the chassis flex on the 104001 :/
Cheers mate it does appear a lot of people feel the same way. It just hasn't been as much of a hit at the 144001 was but it's understandable as it does have some flaws. Only reason I didn't run 3s was because I wanted it to be a good solid comparison to stock. I'm tempted just to go back to stock electronics and enjoy it for what it is as there is very little gain in performance. The one thing I can say though is its the best handling out of the wltoys buggies
I've got a question about brushless. I've got a 4×4 1/10 buggy and I want to convert my brushed system 15T motor (which i run it with nimh 7,2volts, 3Ah) to brushless combo 3000kv motor and 50A esc and still run it with the same battery. Would it be faster or slower??
Cheers Phil much appreciated! I have seen people with various different mods now and believe there is even a top deck mod going about but not sure on availability at this time. I do like this buggy a lot but its certainly not without its issues which is a shame as this could have been a 144001 killer. Decent brushless, stronger chassis and better tyres for a few quid more could have launched this into the no 1 cheap RC spot. WLTOYS need to take on board what we all want including getting rid of the 5 wire servo, and offering rolling chassis option. Cheers
@@beyondRC agree 100% , as I've just bought my entry level "branded" cars I can see what a fairly big gap there is. My Mav Is close to these price wise when you add shipping costs, but it's 3s brushless and 45 mph out the box with 3s. Now people will argue the Wltoys has a battery but tbh,there useless imo and I've never trusted them. The overall spec is also way higher. They definitely need rid of those damn 5 wire servos as well for sure. So really the 144001 is still my best £ for what it is overall and what got me and Sawyer back into the Hobby. Unless Wltoys do anything different I can't see us getting any more, we have the little A949 and also the excellent and overlooked 12428-b as well from Wltoys. Now we have the Typhon and Maverick I would be facing divorce if I buy more 🤣 but I also really want a crawler 🙈
@@philhumber1534 The 144001 is still the best 100% when it comes to value and its the car i recommend to everyone who wants to get into the hobby or just getting back in as its a great little package! WLTOYS needs to change things up a little if they want to keep their loyal fan base thats the way i see it. Hi there, beyondRC, I'm really interested in buying my 1st RC. Being my first RC, I don't want to have to spend too much on it. The 104001 looks like it would be a good model, if it was a little faster, a bit more powerful, had better tyres (I would like to drive it outside fast on hilly and rocky terrains, not really on turf or carpet as we don't have those kind of tracks here where I live). However, it seems like a big job upgrading this to brushless, upgrading the gear system and the tyres. It would no doubt cost quite a bit more as well. Is there any other model you'd recommend? What about the Hobao Hyper Vs or something similar? I've seen some higher level typhons cost just about 3 times more than the 104001. I wouldn't want to have to spend so much on upgrading what would be my first RC to the point where its almost as expensive as a pro level model. Also if it costs almost as much, then it would probably be simpler and less complicated to just buy a higher level model up. Less work right? I'm totally clueless, so tinkering or rather struggling with hands on modifications is not really something I see myself getting out unscathed with.

I had thought the typhon came in 6S V5 only, as that was the one they have at the store near me for $700+ I had thought that it would have been too advanced for me and would probably a later upgrade, once I have picked up the necessary skills and gotten better at driving RC cars. What are your thoughts of the Typhon 3S vs the Vortex vs the traxxar russter? Those 3 seem to be in the same bracket right?
I have been looking into one of these to convert to brushless but I am beginning to feel for the amount of money I would spend I'm better off buying one already done. Anyone have experience with the maverick quantum plus flux xt as it looks good for the money to me ???
Some money needs to be spent. Unfortunately its not great when it comes to speed out the box. If you are looking for speed the 144001 and 124019/18 are the faster options as they are geared higher due to being smaller. Each will do a comfortable 30MPH+ Out the box. The quantum range look very promising and i will hopefully be featuring a quantum flux on the channel in the next month or so.
I think most WLtoys are bought as a cheap platform to improve upon. I love my 124019 and have been thinking about getting one of these. Have you thought about getting any Lc racing parts in this?
As long as it fits into the battery tray you are good to go just remember if you don't already you will need a longer strap or another way to secure it 👍

A 6000mah is far too big it would never fit into a 144001. I use 2200 absolutely fine they are a direct fit into the tray I can't comment on the 2600mah 👍
Good point and I discussed this in the comparison video i made. The 124019 will achieve 30+ MPH on stock brushed setup as its geared higher and is lighter compared to this. I think WLTOYS should have sold this buggy brushless from the start!

Looking at that wing, I think it produces ALOT more drag than down force.. Might really hold it back... Maybe worth a test? :) Gj with the vid

Great vid as always did you ever try it on 3s. Ive recently got one of these and was dissapointed with the speed.
stock 3s is always risky on the wltoys stuff.. some have success some dont always a chance the esc will burn up! !
That seems a lot faster than it is. Also Surpass makes some great budget motors. I'm glad you didn't go with a Surpass Esc as I've had issues with them.
I have heard about the issues with the surpass esc's! That's why I paid a little extra for a hobbywing max 10 which is a great little esc and still at a good price! Cheers 😎👍

get some 12mm to 17mm wheel adaptors and put your typhon wheels on it should get closer to 40mph with the bigger wheels
great idea i have the 10 4 on the way and with my low kv rated conversion motor i can really take advantage of bigger wheels without a thermal issue

Dang, you really let loose on the wet dirt, the 104001 is so dirty! I can't stand getting my car super dirty or leaving it dirty, it one of my pet peeves. I've have 2 sets of homemade mudguards/shields on my 144001.
I sure did! The worst part is the cleanup job after! But it's all part of the fun 🤔🤣👍

I've literally paid 100 extra dollars to the scalpers on ebay...who are probably the reason I wasn't able to get my dang birthday present via banggood...they bought em all...considering its basically an xray 2016 clone though with slightly cheaper materials id say its pretty worth. I bet a lot of the parts are gonna fit too so we can just buy xray upgrades.
If its slow, its because you didn't put the right brushless for the gearing. Lol. Its just... buggies like this are cheaper than the kits, and if we start with this and some brushless gear we can upgrade to race ready and actually compete for under a grand. Pre-upgrade its slow because they went torquey on the gearing because of the motor and esc combo, it was designed for the lighter 14th scale cars, this is heavier.
Some good points and I did mention in the video that it's the stock gearing with a bigger pinion I have no doubt this could reach over 40mph on this setup. Cheers 👍

On 3S, it should be close to 50mph
- which would be ok for a cheap 1/10 scale buggy

its worth checking out the new 104002 which is brushless RTR and due for release soon. But if you cant wait both trucks mentioned are excellent choices apart from the chassis flex on the 104001 :/

Cheers mate it does appear a lot of people feel the same way. It just hasn't been as much of a hit at the 144001 was but it's understandable as it does have some flaws. Only reason I didn't run 3s was because I wanted it to be a good solid comparison to stock. I'm tempted just to go back to stock electronics and enjoy it for what it is as there is very little gain in performance. The one thing I can say though is its the best handling out of the wltoys buggies
33MPH? with a mod1 spool 40T spur 14T pinion I get 42mph plus.
Hey a car you could review is the xlf f17 and its just like the wltoys buggy but it comes brushless and with more metal parts so yeah just and idea.
I've got a question about brushless. I've got a 4×4 1/10 buggy and I want to convert my brushed system 15T motor (which i run it with nimh 7,2volts, 3Ah) to brushless combo 3000kv motor and 50A esc and still run it with the same battery. Would it be faster or slower??
That ESC is 3s, wake it up and put a 3s in it.

Cheers Phil much appreciated! I have seen people with various different mods now and believe there is even a top deck mod going about but not sure on availability at this time. I do like this buggy a lot but its certainly not without its issues which is a shame as this could have been a 144001 killer. Decent brushless, stronger chassis and better tyres for a few quid more could have launched this into the no 1 cheap RC spot. WLTOYS need to take on board what we all want including getting rid of the 5 wire servo, and offering rolling chassis option. Cheers
@@beyondRC agree 100% , as I've just bought my entry level "branded" cars I can see what a fairly big gap there is. My Mav Is close to these price wise when you add shipping costs, but it's 3s brushless and 45 mph out the box with 3s. Now people will argue the Wltoys has a battery but tbh,there useless imo and I've never trusted them. The overall spec is also way higher. They definitely need rid of those damn 5 wire servos as well for sure. So really the 144001 is still my best £ for what it is overall and what got me and Sawyer back into the Hobby. Unless Wltoys do anything different I can't see us getting any more, we have the little A949 and also the excellent and overlooked 12428-b as well from Wltoys. Now we have the Typhon and Maverick I would be facing divorce if I buy more 🤣 but I also really want a crawler 🙈
@@philhumber1534 The 144001 is still the best 100% when it comes to value and its the car i recommend to everyone who wants to get into the hobby or just getting back in as its a great little package! WLTOYS needs to change things up a little if they want to keep their loyal fan base thats the way i see it. Hi there, beyondRC, I'm really interested in buying my 1st RC. Being my first RC, I don't want to have to spend too much on it. The 104001 looks like it would be a good model, if it was a little faster, a bit more powerful, had better tyres (I would like to drive it outside fast on hilly and rocky terrains, not really on turf or carpet as we don't have those kind of tracks here where I live). However, it seems like a big job upgrading this to brushless, upgrading the gear system and the tyres. It would no doubt cost quite a bit more as well. Is there any other model you'd recommend? What about the Hobao Hyper Vs or something similar? I've seen some higher level typhons cost just about 3 times more than the 104001. I wouldn't want to have to spend so much on upgrading what would be my first RC to the point where its almost as expensive as a pro level model. Also if it costs almost as much, then it would probably be simpler and less complicated to just buy a higher level model up. Less work right? I'm totally clueless, so tinkering or rather struggling with hands on modifications is not really something I see myself getting out unscathed with.
Have you considered a Typhon 3s? Sounds like it may be the best option? Its RTR but you will have to provide a 2s/3s pack and charger. Thanks

I had thought the typhon came in 6S V5 only, as that was the one they have at the store near me for $700+ I had thought that it would have been too advanced for me and would probably a later upgrade, once I have picked up the necessary skills and gotten better at driving RC cars. What are your thoughts of the Typhon 3S vs the Vortex vs the traxxar russter? Those 3 seem to be in the same bracket right?

Some money needs to be spent. Unfortunately its not great when it comes to speed out the box. If you are looking for speed the 144001 and 124019/18 are the faster options as they are geared higher due to being smaller. Each will do a comfortable 30MPH+ Out the box. The quantum range look very promising and i will hopefully be featuring a quantum flux on the channel in the next month or so.
I think most WLtoys are bought as a cheap platform to improve upon. I love my 124019 and have been thinking about getting one of these.

The Typhon 3s is excellent very fast and durable. Make sure you get the V3 though lots of improvements over the V2

As long as it fits into the battery tray you are good to go just remember if you don't already you will need a longer strap or another way to secure it 👍

A 6000mah is far too big it would never fit into a 144001. I use 2200 absolutely fine they are a direct fit into the tray I can't comment on the 2600mah 👍

Good point and I discussed this in the comparison video i made. The 124019 will achieve 30+ MPH on stock brushed setup as its geared higher and is lighter compared to this. I think WLTOYS should have sold this buggy brushless from the start!
