TheCarPassionChannel remembere from Snapchat. I'm the one that sold his turbo Miata and build a turbo foxbody. i was a lot of money into the build and sold it instead and I'm bacl at the Miata game
I remember when I found your channel your miata had just blown up and you were creating your VVT Engine Build Studio. Seems like its been a year since then nice to finally see the new motor going together. May you have unicorn power for the rest of your days.
Hell yeah, this is the best part of any automotive project - when you can pull back out your labeled bags 'o bolts and starting putting stuff back together!
passed up Garage Sidewayz, Haggard Garage, Jimmy Oaks, and a few of my fav channels and had to come straight here.. Excited that your getting closer man! gonna be chopping fools in no time.
So cool, great videos. I have 99 1.8 and when I found, that my sweetie eats oil as b....ch I decided to build my first engine. I knew, that I must study a lot, search which parts is best for me and my wallet, and I found you. So because I wanted my car to be still ready I decided to buy another 1.8 engine, from Poland (I live in Prague), disassembly all parts, sand blast, zinc.......Five hours ago, I finally get my Supertech 84mm 9:1 pistons from Fab9 and move them to engine shop for proper machining my block. So because of you, I finally buy almost all parts in US (all forged, ARP, engine mounts, still better then in EU). So thanks a lot, my dinner was bread with rice, but I'm happy (: Good luck and keep going (:
if i see it richt the seal on the oil pump is a dubble lip seal and you should always grease them up between the lips (the lube ont the shaft dont gets between them, it gets wiped of by the first lip) to minimalize the wear on the seal and the crankshaft, otherwise te seal gets to hot and if the seal is made from a hard material it is going to eat up the shaft. but you'r doing great and i think your beter than most car mechanics. cant wait to see it running. keep it up!
Hey bud, just finding your videos. Been watching like it’s gosh dang game of thrones. Thanks for the courage to build! I’m super excited to build my own. I like that low mount turbine! Thank you for taking the time and energy to purchase, install, film, edit, and care about this project.
Hahaha I could see it. That's the worst trying to make a smooth bead while squeezing that tube to death. Can is a total game changer. Also doesn't dry up as easily.
Loving the videos. Keep it up. Just a thought....you spent so much care and attention to detail building the engine, yet refitted a sump that needed a proper degrease and oil pump bolts which looked like they still had old grease and grit on them. Why not take the extra time to make it look even more professional?
So excited man! I can't wait to see you drop this thing in x). And I appreciate the choice of music; call me a nerd but I like listening to Gran Turismo-style music when I'm out in the garage lol
Holy hell! Loved everything in this vid except how much red Loctite you put on those oil pickup bolts! Hope they will ever come out again. XD Keep up the good work.
It's prolly too late, but I had a slight crack in the brazing of the oil pick up tube. Its worth checking if you haven't already. if you did have a slight crack its like having a pin hole in your straw if you were drinking. Great progress otherwise!
It looks great mate! :D You specifically said to use the lower point of the sump for an oil temp gauge, most of the times they use the sandwich plate witch also provides constant oil flow. So, what is the benefit of the extra hassle of tapping twice the oil sump?
I know this doesn't have anything to do with the video, really good as usual but I noticed Greg started with a different shirt on then he finished with,
ATTENTION! If that front main seal was the one included with the boundary pump it WILL leak. Use an oem seal, boundary had a large quantity of extremely poor quality fms that shipped out with their pumps.
Love the video Greg. Your videos improve with each one you put out and thats really awesome. Beyond that though, I learn a ton just from watching your videos and even though I don't drive a miata, it is all pretty helpful. So thank you for the videos and keep it up!
Did you put RTV gray *on* AND *underneath* of BOTH of the oil pan rubber gaskets. On both sides, rear and front? Because I did that with my build and I have a ton of oil leaks in the areas of oil pan edges/corners, along with random places from the front. I'm about to fully re-disassemble everything in an attempt to find out where the horrible leak is really coming from. Fab9 says not to use RTV over top of those oil pan gaskets (the thin rubber slivers that are gaskets. front n rear). Supposedly due to reports of the gaskets, moving and pinching somehow on some projects. I also intensely cleaned away all of the old rtv, and made sure the surfaces were fully free of oils, before applying the new rtv. It could be anything tho, my oil pump, the front crank seal. It takes a lot of luck to get this stuff right on the first try. There's so many variables. BTW How did yours turn out afterwards in relation to having any oil leaks? For some reason I think the major leak is coming from my oil pump area. It ultra sucks. lol
Michael Hein Yes I did swap out that seal. I forgot to mention it. The new seal was actually noticably softer than the one that came in the pump. You'd think they could include a Mazda seal in a $400 oil pump.
Havent seen it yet, i just had to say that i have been tearing my hair off for the last week waiting for the new vid! Keep it up! Now....BRB.... need to watch the freakin vid before i go bald! Greetings from Norway!
Awesome vid as always love learning new things. Hope one day to have a car that I built my self not some shop that built it or anything like that. Nice work Craig/ Greg
+Bham Truck Boys I believe you'd have to source main caps from an 01+ and have it line bored. Or maybe there's enough material on the stock caps to drill and tap for MBSP bolts? I've never looked into it.
Shouldn't have used red locktite on those small bolts, it's way too strong. When you need to remove those bolts please use heat on em to soften up that locktite or you'll snap those bolts. Next time use blue locktite.
The youtuber with the best video series
+Danny Courtney I try to keep it spicy

Hey Greg, would it be possible to send me your last tune? Just so I can compare mine to yours?
This is good but I think Clickspring takes that title.
I totally agree!
You make mondays worth it
and to think these are edited with windows movie maker.
right
Windows movie maker is solid...although I do wish there were some updates
I remember when I found your channel your miata had just blown up and you were creating your VVT Engine Build Studio. Seems like its been a year since then nice to finally see the new motor going together. May you have unicorn power for the rest of your days.
Look at that RTV applying precision 👌
Good to see more from you again Greg!
GearHeads hey
@T1GRS13 Hey bro =P
Hell yeah, this is the best part of any automotive project - when you can pull back out your labeled bags 'o bolts and starting putting stuff back together!
Man I could binge watch the VVT series
I watch the most recent episode, and just like boost
I JUST WANT MORE AND MORE IS NEVER ENOUGH

I was just thinking of how I was getting excited about the progress as you said it in the video. I can't wait to see this engine start !!!
if i see it richt the seal on the oil pump is a dubble lip seal and you should always grease them up between the lips (the lube ont the shaft dont gets between them, it gets wiped of by the first lip) to minimalize the wear on the seal and the crankshaft, otherwise te seal gets to hot and if the seal is made from a hard material it is going to eat up the shaft. but you'r doing great and i think your beter than most car mechanics. cant wait to see it running. keep it up!

Get the cheese wiz style can of RTV. You won't regret it.
+Taylor Ray I need that so bad!! Your channel was actually the first place I saw one. So much arm pump after that oil pan 😅
Hahaha I could see it. That's the worst trying to make a smooth bead while squeezing that tube to death. Can is a total game changer. Also doesn't dry up as easily.
Love the video Craig. Keep it up!

The build is coming along nicely! Very excited and can't wait for the next video! 👍
Always so excited to see next video, God I can't wait for the first start. Also why does this channel not have over 250k subs yet?
Im following along with my own engine build, these are SOOOO helpful. Thanks for the awesome content.
Loving the videos. Keep it up. Greg always leaves us hanging waiting frantically for the next video. Lol. Keeps us coming back though.
I'm so glad I discovered this channel.
Patiently waiting for The Car Passion Channel mixtape to drop 🔥
Look at me! I'm doing it! Said Greg a thousand times during this build lol!
So excited man! I can't wait to see you drop this thing in x). And I appreciate the choice of music; call me a nerd but I like listening to Gran Turismo-style music when I'm out in the garage lol
Good video Greg! thing is coming out great. Your going to have a monster for sure
Holy hell! Loved everything in this vid except how much red Loctite you put on those oil pickup bolts! Hope they will ever come out again. XD
Keep up the good work.
Also, should really invest in a 12.9 oz. tube of the Ultra Black and a caulking gun. :P
It's prolly too late, but I had a slight crack in the brazing of the oil pick up tube. Its worth checking if you haven't already. if you did have a slight crack its like having a pin hole in your straw if you were drinking. Great progress otherwise!
Ahh it really is so close to being done! Can't wait!
omg i missed you and your videos, needs more car passion channel in my life!!
Great video Greg!
It looks great mate! :D
You specifically said to use the lower point of the sump for an oil temp gauge, most of the times they use the sandwich plate witch also provides constant oil flow. So, what is the benefit of the extra hassle of tapping twice the oil sump?
+Spiros Aliprantis Easy - I don't want to use a sandwich plate. I have no reason to run one, and I wouldn't install it just for an oil temp sensor.
TheCarPassionChannel so it is more like a preference but they don't have any particular benefits over each other as installation methods...
Are there downsides to running a sandwich plate? About to start my turbo build for 240sx. Thanks
I know this doesn't have anything to do with the video, really good as usual but I noticed Greg started with a different shirt on then he finished with,
men, was starting to think you quit on posting videos LOL come on mate let's keep them coming! awesome work men!
Hi Buddy, I'm thinking about doing a 13b build, but looking at this makes me want to do a rebuild.
Awesome video per usual... if I ever rebuild I will definitely use this series as a reference.
ATTENTION! If that front main seal was the one included with the boundary pump it WILL leak. Use an oem seal, boundary had a large quantity of extremely poor quality fms that shipped out with their pumps.
+M M Already done
man you make me wanna go rebuild my whole engine... best vids out there very well explained!
Hey Greg you forgot to mention "Don't forget this little rubber O-ring" for the oil supply
Loving your series! What do you do for work? I'm quite curious.
Love the video Greg. Your videos improve with each one you put out and thats really awesome. Beyond that though, I learn a ton just from watching your videos and even though I don't drive a miata, it is all pretty helpful. So thank you for the videos and keep it up!

Did you use an OEM ring seal on the BE pump? Apparently some of the seals provided by Travis have been leaking.
Michael Hein Yes I did swap out that seal. I forgot to mention it. The new seal was actually noticably softer than the one that came in the pump. You'd think they could include a Mazda seal in a $400 oil pump.
As always, great video
Great music choice as well, I enjoyed watching this very much while stoned
you doin a great job with the content and the motor too!!! great progress and u almost there!!
Always love seeing a new video from you Greg. Keeps up the great work
Great video as always G, I'm chomping at the bit to see how it comes out.
damn why didnt you give the block a fresh layer of enamel paint to make it look extra fresh
thats EXTRA WEIGHT. just gonna slow you down.
I was thinking the exact same thing. I would've detailed the shit out of that block ^^
these build videos have been awesome!!
Please make the next video's also this detailed, someday I'm going to rebuild my engine and this is a perfect manual/how-to!
This is amazingly timely. I'll be messing with my own 01 oil pan very shortly.
Torque specs please? Not sure if I missed them somewhere easy...
revlimiter I don't mention all of them in the video but I'll email you a link to a PDF I have of all torque specs, basically my build bible haha.
"It's like I almost know what I am doing." :D :D :D I love it :D
Nice work as usually! ;-)
Interesting that you went with an upgraded wet sump pump vs a dry sump system. Is there a specific reason or is it simply a matter of cost/complexity?
+Artoast Cost, complexity, overkill. It's a street car.
Haha that's fair enough. Either way I can't wait for this thing to be finished, it's gonna be a beast.
I can't wait to hear this engine run!
love the tunes in this vid. Exited for whats comming!
I love watching your videos ... like therapy
please rotate the crank and make sure its not interfering with the mbsp. you never know with those Manley rods
Put more vids up please!! I love this series
getting closer mate
Havent seen it yet, i just had to say that i have been tearing my hair off for the last week waiting for the new vid!
Keep it up!
Now....BRB.... need to watch the freakin vid before i go bald!
Greetings from Norway!
The *only* thing I dislike about this video is that it's so short.
Awesome vid as always love learning new things. Hope one day to have a car that I built my self not some shop that built it or anything like that. Nice work Craig/ Greg
I'm to damn excited to see it run!!!!
I'm so impatient lol
Love the video! Coming back from the dead
What kind of gearing are you planning on running with the 6 speed? Can't wait to hear the VVT powah lol
Jonny Viking I think its a 3.6 rear end if I recall correctly from the VVT Megapage and Instagram
I absolutely love it! Keep up the great work!!
why didnt you use the right stuff grey? they have a high pressure and high temp sealant.....
and its honda, toyota, oem use...
Why didn´t you paint the block? Would have been the best moment to do so and have it even nicer :)
great vid homie!
what is that torque wrench you use? where did you get it?
Just a tad more than a "little bit" of loctite on the oil pickup bolts lol.
Thanks for the video Greg. Nice tips.
Great Videos Greg! It Would be cool if you could write the metric system sometimes below.
Greetings from South Germany 🍻
I soooo can't wait to see this motor in the car and ripping up the streets. makes me want a MX-5 myself instead of my Protege. idk
does it mean we have to wait a week for new video now? 😥
Whats the advantage of using RTV over OEM gaskets for everything?
awesome as always ! Greg FTW
Good job Creg
I mean Graig
hp logic jack called you out with rudnicks roadster... but what o would like to see is ur engine and his tune together!
#fastestvvtimiata
Im working on mine at the moment, and cant figure out where the long bolt goes in. I labeled them but I guess I didnt do that right lol
I can't thank you enough.
Always a banger video
Is there a priming procedure for the oil pump?
Dope as always.
Should you get a MBSP on older engines? I'm rebuilding a 97 and was wondering if I should get one while I'm in there
+Bham Truck Boys I believe you'd have to source main caps from an 01+ and have it line bored. Or maybe there's enough material on the stock caps to drill and tap for MBSP bolts? I've never looked into it.
bro.... Got Loctite? a dab,ll do ya. lol
Excellent vid as always :)
your the best Greg!
Great video I made sure to give it the thumbs up
Is it possible to use that main bearing support plate with a 99 block? If it's a measure against flex I kinda need it from what I've learned.
great job .... my fav TV show :D acutally only one I watch :D
Like before watch
Binging this in 2019.
Shouldn't have used red locktite on those small bolts, it's way too strong. When you need to remove those bolts please use heat on em to soften up that locktite or you'll snap those bolts. Next time use blue locktite.
He won't be taking them off any time soon hahaha
Yes. People have broken the 21mm crank bolts on miatas because of red loctite.
Even so, *if* he'll be taking them off, he's going to have to heat them to break the loctite or he's going to snap them.
VerticalGamingStudio on small nose miatas you kinda have to use locktite. otherwise it will come loose
Anyone know if the boundary engineering oil pump will fit on a 1.6? Cheers
Awesome man!
I 💕 your video. Long time fan!
Why only 55K subscribes? This is great content and fun too. Great use of music too. Not that annoying shit.
My 91,is perfect!!!
Torque specs for oil pump?
Is that return gonna clear the motor mount?
MrMAG It should drop in just in front of the mount.
