  • Took a few weeks to get to it, life's like that at times; but here it is the final instalment of the "GMT800 Center Console in a GMT400" series. In this instalment I stuff two amps under the passenger seat to run the tunes for our adventures.

They usually are with me. I’m doing my best to teach them, my 7 year old is able to learn construction, fabrication and mechanics with me. The girls just play around.

awesome fab work man. (glad to see I'm not the only one expanding my children's vocabulary after breaking a tap, usually in the last hole). BTW, spiral tip taps have helped me avoid a lot of that activity ;-)

Thank you! Yeah, I do need to be careful how many Army Technical Terms they learn!

My Amp racks I've always built with MDF which is very durable. But if you ever decide to drive that Nice Chevy off a cliff the only thing that will still be intact is the amps and Amp rack. That will survive a nuclear blast 😂🤣. Great work man👌👍

Oh, that's how I usually build: solid and survivable.

Nice amp rack. I felt your pain when the tap broke.

I have such a bad habit of breaking small taps! Using the WD-40 and all.

I really like your thought process and methodology... It helps me to draw up wiring diagrams to keep from confusing myself... Your narration is great, but I'd rather hear silence than the stock music loops - it can get annoying... Congrats on such a massive and complex project...

Wow...didn't think there was that much room under the passenger seat for a rack with two amps. I had an amp under each of Suburban's front seats and just removed them both...replaced with an in-dash Alpine car play unit with a mating amp. Seems plenty enough to run all of my speakers (I have the same speaker arrangement as yours). Nice job. Any worries about the amps overheating and cutting out?

Thanks. No, I'm not too concerned about the amps overheating. I put them there so the AC blows on them. So long as the passenger doesn't block them, they are fine. Alpine, huh? Yeah, I've used their stuff before. an amp of theirs blew out in a couple months for no apparent reason. My deck of theirs got stolen. I still have the speakers in the S10, though several have ripped cones. I still come back to Rockford Fosgate for durability and longevity.

That would be the most asked question after this vid. Two thing: 1. I don’t have royalty free music to play over it and 2. even if I did, would it be the same on your set up as it is in real life? Probably not. Just know a year later it is still providing the exact depth I needed in my music. I’m still lovin it!

Great build! Do the under-seat springs, etc. touch the amps if a 150+ passenger sits in the seat?

Haven’t had an issue. I did weld in some spacers to tilt the rear of the seat up about 1/2 inch. It’s all been fine with my 150 lb wife sitting in it.

So are you going to upload a video with the sub playing?

On TH-cam!? What would be the point!? Even when I use so-called copyright-free music from supposedly legitimate sources I get copyright strikes. So, no, no I will not. I’ve stopped using music period in my videos. I’m tired of the games Alphabet plays with our work as creators that bring them eyeballs.

Okay it was a nice build but that they can I didn't even get to hear it what was that about

You know what copyright laws are, don’t you? That’s problem one. You know the camera mic does not give you the full experience, don’t you? That’s problem two. It’s just not worth it to play anything. Looking at the vids you uploaded on your channel, I’m guessing you know what good car stereo sounds like in person? Take my word, the system in my Burban does what I wanted it to. It plays all sorts of music with beautiful depth and power.

It sounds great. You do know the camera mic won’t do it justice, don’t you? You do know any music you play these days risks getting a copyright strike, don’t you?

Yes REALLY. Thank TH-cam’s insane copyright claim process.
