  • We had a small snow fall a week before xmas 2016. I got to give the Cub Cadet 3X a little work out. Don't get dizzy from the side to side movement of my head. I need one of those gimbals they use on drones to keep my GoPro steady (aka I walk like a penguin). For heavy wet snow or deep powder this 3X works fantastic. Perfect width for our driveway. It is most happy when the city plow has come by ;-)

    I have a Power Smart DB7659h-22 2 stage and it cuts through ice and wet snow like a warm knife to butter. We bought it for $349 on the spot online and it was shipped in 2 weeks. We are very happy with the purchase! Money well spent.

    Better off with a 2 stage. All the videos I have watched where there is a small amount of snow, the 3 stages blowers are not very efficient. Rather have a quality 2 stage machine.

    amazing! that thing must be throwing it 30 feet (around the 12 minute mark) looks like it makes light work of that snowfall and even what the plow left at the end of the drive without breaking a sweat.

    I just picked the exact same blower but the newer model and boy i cant wait for,snow to pile up. Nice video of seeing it in action.

      Thank Kris, I like the new handle panel with the new dual LED lights and the new shift lever is very nice too. I installed a high output LED bulb in my panel and it is way better than the 1156 bulb it came with.

      Phil Maznyk ...i might have to consider that light upgrade.

      If you have a 2017 model with the new dual headlamp panel you already have high output LED's.

      Phil Maznyk i realized that after i made my reply. They are nice but dont shine at the ground like the HD models that have the third light on the front.

      That HD light that is fastened to the housing is available as an add on kit.

    I have watched several of these types of videos. and I have noted that no one cleans off the car before removing the snow ?around

    • @UnderTheTide
      @UnderTheTide  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      In my case I brush it off after using the snowthrower then I will go around the Jeep with a shovel getting real close without having to worry about accidentally bumping the car with the heavy snowthrower.

      @donhart3782 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I always clean the car after clearing around it. That way I don't have to walk in the deep snow and there is now room for all of the snow that's on the car to fall on the ground. If I did the car first, I would be walking in snow up to my knees by the time I'm done. This way, the snow doesn't get packed under foot as well. After cleaning, I shovel out from behind the car, drive it away and run the snowblower over the parking space.

    Is there a big difference between 2X vs 3X also which one is better plastic or metal chute ?

    • @UnderTheTide
      @UnderTheTide  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The big difference mechanical wise is the addition of the 3rd stage accelerators. These spin at the same speed as the final stage or impeller. They force snow back toward the impeller where it can be discharged. The 3X machines work extremely well in heavier deeper snow and for this they are very much worth the extra money. A 2 stage unit works fine in lighter snow and while they will throw heavy snow, their ability to do it is slower than a 3X plus the housing will tend to lift up where the 3X stays stuck to the ground. This machine replace a 28 inch 2 stage Troy-Bilt and I am very happy with it. The metal chute is designed with a much steeper discharge angle vs the plastic chutes. One big benefit to the polymer chutes is that they do not clog easily. Hope this helps.

      Thank you for very informative response. I only wish they made handles higher or adjustable, I am 6'2'" and every time I am using cub cadet snow blower I am bending forward, and my back is killing after short use.

    I just bought the same model a day ago(2019) waiting to use it now they seem to do the job but not throwing far for a 3XHD having the larger of the motors. Ive been wanting a Yamaha YT624EJ which ive seen them throw 30plus feet and only being a 2 stage But well built. Thoughts?

    • @UnderTheTide
      @UnderTheTide  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Greg, throwing distance isn't strictly tied to the size of the engine. Impellor RPM and some other factors play a big role. I find the 3X series of snowthrowers really prefer lots of snow to snow their potential. If it is just a small amount say 4 inches or less, I have to increase my ground speed to ingest snow faster in order to throw it far. Example, it snows says 4 or so inches overnight. Going down the driveway in 1st gear it might through it 8 feet max. When I get to where the plow has filled in my driveway, it will throw that stuff clear across the road. You will also like how the housing doesn't lift up when going through the heavy stuff from the plow. It just digs in and goes straight through.

    Great video, love Cub Cadet too. Small side note, having watched two houses (not mine) burn to the ground very quickly in my old neighbourhood, you should clear out the area by the fire hydrant. Will save the fireman having to do it vs saving a house.

    • @UnderTheTide
      @UnderTheTide  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thanks Derrick, that is a very good point for anyone with a hydrant near there home. I did go back when I was done and cleared around the fire hydrant. The dogs all appreciated it very much :-)

    I am getting an Ariens 30inch with a brand new EFI engine which is supposed to be the best. I have had my older Aries since 1996 and its like new but I want a bigger machine.

    I bought a 26 inch Craftsman with a 208 cc . Wish I had the larger engine like yours Phil for the real heavy deep snow . . Nice snowblower .

    • @UnderTheTide
      @UnderTheTide  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I see a lot of the Craftsman snowthrowers up here have the 243cc quiet engine or the 277cc engine which is the smallest of the big block line up. On your unit probably the first pass in heavy snow will be the hardest as your taking in a full 26 inch swath. Once you get past that just reduce the amount of the width and use 1st gear you should be okay.

    Three stage seems kinda like a gimmick. My 2 stage husqvarna has a smaller engine throws further and seems like I only have to decrease my speed a touch over this model. Still looks like a great machine though. Wish I had gotten the bigger husqvarna since we just got pelted with 57” of snow over Christmas.

    • @UnderTheTide
      @UnderTheTide  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Mario, I will be the first to admit when I first saw the 3X machines I thought the same thing you are. I had a 2 stage TroyBilt unit that I felt worked fine but I wanted to be one of the first to try this new technology out. I sold the 2 stage to a neighbor and got the 3 stage. There are only 2 areas that I feel the 3x excels in compared to a 2 stage. First it handles deeper heavier snow with less load on the governor (engine) and second the real heavy damp stuff the plow puts in the bottom of the driveway is walks right through without even a hint of the housing riding up on top. My 2 stage always rode up and took multiple attempts with me really heaving up on handle bars to keep the housing from riding up and even then it was not that good. I wish we had some of the snow you got. We have had maybe a foot over the xmas holidays. Enjoy your 57 inches :-)

    • @alabon
      @alabon 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      3x doesn't throws further, but you can go faster. You don't have to stop to get the bucket empty.
      It is much more efficient with deeper snow than a few inches.

    Poor snow thrower, cub cadet is junk. I bought the cub cadet 3x 26" 357 cc on 1/20/2019 at the price $1280. I feel happy and try first used but it make me disappointed of throwing the snow 5 - 14 feet just like this one. it broke in the 2nd used just right on time 1 day before due date. See this one is very poor but it still a little better than mine. They are junk compare to other brands. The cub cadet company claimed by its self that their 3x is hp 357 cc and up to 40 feet of snow throwing but worse than the small toro single stage that my neighbors had. Look at this one close to the one I have, is this Cub cadet really 357 cc and throw the snow up to 40 feet? I should have take the videos before I returned it and send it to cub cadet company. Where is the 357 cc and 40 feet come from?

    Get the junk out of the garage and put the vehicle in it, build a shed in the backyard for the junk, so many of these videos and only a couple actually use the garage for what it's designed for, it irks me, when i see this, I would love to have a garage people don't know how lucky they are to us garage deprived. That's a lot of frontage on this lot, I'll bet the backyard is the size of a postage stamp, unless they designed it that way in case they want to turn it into a highway someday.

    • @UnderTheTide
      @UnderTheTide  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Peter our backyard is 65 feet wide x 80 feet deep. We used to have a postage stamp lot at our previous house. We're quite content with leaving our vehicles outside. Remote starters make our lives easy and I don't have to deal with melting slop on the garage floor.

    Phil I owned a 2x model cub with the 354 engine when we lived up north. That machine would cut through 18" of snow with no problems. I do like the idea of the 3x because it feeds the snow into the other impeller faster, thus allowing you to travel a little faster. I was always impressed with Cub cadet snow blowers. The engine started first time every time. Power steering was also very nice.

    • @UnderTheTide
      @UnderTheTide  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks Paul, I have found over the 3 winters now that I have owned mine that the impeller on the 3X units really do like to be fed lots of snow. The more that is pushed to the back of the housing the better the unit works. I just got mine ready for this winter last weekend. I am using StaBil in my my snowthrower and mower and when I went to pull start the snowthrower it started before the first pull was even complete. I wish more people would use StaBil or similar quality fuel stabilizers.

      The 3 stage units like mine absolutely need a lot of snow to work at their best. My previous 2 stage unit which I sold to my neighbour would throw snow farther than my 3X so long as the depth was less than say 6 to 8 inches. Above that and there is NO comparing the 2 units. Heavy slushy wet snow is tossed with ease on this unit vs my previous 2 stage unit.
