    Reminds me of this one time me and my friends cleaned the carb on my DRZ: we put the tank on the grass without thinking and some dirt went inside the petcock which then went into the carb. Was quite distressing because we couldn't figure out what we did wrong, but then when we unplugged the fuel line I saw dirt coming out and the answer was immediately obvious. Cleaned the carb again, and its been fine since then.
    P.S. Glad to see you're still alive!

    Check out the clearances of the float against the walls of the bowl. Sometimes the float lightly contacts the wall of the bowl and this can cause sticking. Check the clearance between the float and bowl and check the edges of the bowl carefully to see if there is any light marks on the floats from rubbing on the bowl.

    I always run a secondary/inline fuel filter the petcock mesh isn't fine enough to stop all the dirt. black sooty stuff is usually the fuel line braking down you may want to replace it if you haven't. Glad you finally got it worked out. Great vids by the way.

    @hermit DaVlog: I have the xr's only pumper carb too, I got it mainly because you did lol. Ive been experiencing a similar problem almost like the float is set to high. It was leaking when i turned the gas on after installing a 440 kit. I taped the carb a little, nothing.... So i just dumped the bike on its side in the grass. problem solved lol. but now it seams like the carb wants to leak even if its just beyond a kick stand angle. I might have to take it out again and clean it. Thanks for your vigilance on the 400. They really are awesome bikes bro! I got one the day they came out when I was 15! I didn't take care of it properly so it became a hot mess. but the one I have now is coming along nicely

      Thanks. Keep watching this summer. I'm almost done with this bike and ready to do a cool reveal. I'm still getting crap in the carb when I drain it, but it hasn't been stuttering when I ride. I also have been turning off the petcock a block away from the house and letting it run dry when I put it away for the week.

  • @FogataMexicana
    @FogataMexicana 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Ahahahahah...Bro that very issue was going through my mind and Im like damn I just ran across the video and I don’t wanna be banned. I had a similar problem last season and I let the bike sit through COVID. I just cleaned the carb and damn same issue so I went back over the the tube where the float needle drops into and the metal seat area with a “G-TIP” from Bear Metal Gun Cleaning Supplies cut in half so I can secure it into a drill and really remove that ethanol residue with CARB cleaner. Anyhow I’m glad to see you got it sorted. Great video, great bike and enjoy the ride.

    Hey Hermit, this is only sorta related but I have found that running something like seafoam or gas with detergents like chevrons techron helps. I make sure to run a tank with additives every now and then. just to keep things cleaned out.

    I've been having this issue. When I pulled the Petcock from the tank, it was fried. The screen wasn't even there anymore and the plastic was all broken and falling apart. Probably hadn't been changed for the life of the motorcycle 03. I first noticed pieces in the float bowl cap. So, now I know I need to clean the whole carb and start over. I might try just cleaning the float bowl and jets. I saw someone on YT do it with the carburetor still on the bike. Runs great when it's working right ...

  • @kingtroll5635
    @kingtroll5635 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Take your petcock apart and you will see why this is happening. The fuel filter is keeping the stuff out of the carb because it is down steam of your petcock.Every time you turn your gas on and off little pieces of the petcock go into the carb.So your bike has a band aid on it until you replace your petcock.Sooner or later your filter will get plugged up again and cause you to have problems.

    • @HermitDaVlog
      @HermitDaVlog  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That's a good theory. I did take the pedic out and pulled the filters off and cleaned it, but I wasn't really paying attention to the seals in the pedic itself. I'll replace it if the problem pops up again.

    glad you got some results...
    I had my theories but seems you have had some luck on your own. but I would like to say 1 did you blow outvyour breather hose? if not you may be sucking crud back in. as the slide gose down it will form a low presume vecume on the breather, and if there is crud or perished rubber there in may suck it in. 2, is the breather perished and in need of replacement? 3, how dose your breather run? generally from factory they drop toward the ground and out near the swing arm. but this is some times a cause of issues (generally a blocked and pressure build up at breather, obviously not in your case) so like the jeep and other 4wders do, many people believe it's best to rout these up along the frame and the put a U bend down. up so that it doesn't get blocked from mud, dirt and so on blocking it and the U bend so that dust and so on doesn't fall into it. 4, are any of the other rubber lines perished, perished rubber will break down into small black dusty crud and block jets and needle and seats causing simptums like you have described..
    just a few ideas to future proof you XR-lant bike...

    • @HermitDaVlog
      @HermitDaVlog  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Excellent suggestions. In this case all new hoses came with the carb, but this is something I'll pay attention to on all my bikes in the future.
