I had no idea that you and Susie lost a child. My heart goes out to both of you. That is a pain no parent should go through. Prayers.

It’s hard to get how the loss of a child can be so devastating. The world should stop turning and everyone should stand and mourn with you. Crying just isn’t enough. Quiet depression just isn’t enough. And grieving comes in short episodes still, after so much time. As life goes on, it’s less for the loss of our child. As time softens our grief, as discussions help us release some pain shared, we will never get over it. We are not supposed to lose our children. Close loved ones, our remaining children, their mother and me…we show our loving kindness, grace, patience and forgiveness that we didn’t do before. She would be glad that her legacy has made us demonstrate the love we always have felt. Whewww, Luke…

Thank you for your kind words and sympathy. Losing a child is indeed a pain no parent should ever experience. This video was actually about an outdoor camping adventure, but I appreciate your prayers. On another note, if you're an outdoor enthusiast like me, you might find the Segway Portable PowerStation Cube Series interesting. It's a versatile powerhouse with a massive capacity, powerful output, and fast recharging capabilities. Definitely worth considering for your outdoor gear and backup power needs.

Bubble & Sqeak is a traditional English post-Xmas meal where the left-overs of the Xmas Roast dinner were mixed together. Traditionally it was made up of the left-over roast potatoes, brussel sprouts, carrots mashed together, formed into flat cakes about an inch thick and fried in oil or butter until light brown and crispy on the outside. Some added bits of the left-over chicken or turkey too.

I’m a Newfy (Newfoundlander) but haven’t lived there since I was little. My parents used to make “bubble and squeak” for us with the left over mashed potatoes, Brussel sprouts (that I always imagined caused the squeak 🤪), carrots and what ever else we had. They would fry it all up in a mash with some butter. It’s delicious. Now I want some 😋.

Bubble and squeak saved thousands of lives in Ireland back in the day. Originally mash with cabbage. The Catholic churches would make massive pots of it for poor kids. It's lovely with boiled bacon, and you can fry a big pattie of it the next morning.

Greetings from the UK Luke 👋🏻.
Bubble and squeak is a very famous British dish, usually eaten for breakfast and consists of the leftovers of a Sunday roast dinner, namely cabbage, roast potatoes and other vegetables...
It's delicious and is simply fried and served with scrambled eggs or eaten on its own.
It gets the name 'bubble and squeak' because that's the sound it makes when its frying in the pan.

Bubble and squeak is a traditional British dish that was essentially leftovers. Potato plus whatever green veg was leftover, fried up the next morning for breakfast. Often served with a fried egg or 3. Quite versatile and usually delicious. I grew up with a typical recipe of cabbage and Brussels sprouts mashed into roast potatoes fried in bacon grease, served with the bacon and eggs sunny side up on top of the bubble and squeak. Be interesting to see you have a go in the woods😂

Bubble and squeak is the left over potato and vegetables from a roast dinner. Usually eaten the next day, it is roughly mashed together and then fried in a pan as one big Pattie or made into burger sized patties, it sort of bubbles and squeaks whilst frying. It’s essential to make sure you get a nice crispy crust on each side and is usually eaten with either a couple of fried eggs or with left over cold meat and pickles.

I do not fear human predators because I pack heat in my belly band any time I am outside my home. I have had a permit to carry concealed for over 30 years. I have only pulled my weapon one time in those 30 years... and no one saw that I had my weapon out and ready... you can be ready without waving your weapon around. My weapon is NOT a toy; It is a tool to get a job done and therefore, no one needs to know I am prepared by me. I have never had to use my weapon on anyone or anything. Most situations will diffuse and do not lead to violence or active self defense, but if they do, I am ready, willing and able.

Now that I've seen the Helikon-Tex Supertarp in dozens of adventures I feel pretty confident in ordering one myself. I really like their external "pouch" you get it in, seems easy to just throw the tarp in there when wet and letting it drain on the outside of your pack!

While stationed outside Fairbanks, AK, I used to do a lot of single camping, but I always brought a couple of friends; one being a Mr. Garand from Springfield Armory in 30-06 and the other being Mr. 3-Screw Super Blackhawk in .44 Rem. Mag from Sturm, Ruger & Co., but thankfully they were just companions. Black bears, Brown bears, and Wolves, although predators, didn't worry me as much as a Bull Moose, depending on the season. Common sense camping will generally keep you safe. Oh, and wild dogs close to towns were a worry. Long before the advent of cellphones and weather radar, we used to joke about bringing a "Weather Rock" with us - you probably know... if it's swinging, it's windy. If you see it's shadow, it's sunny. If it's wet, it's raining. Etcetera. Thoroughly enjoy your channel and your reviews of the advances in camping gear. Lord bless you and yours.

I'm not afraid of the forest. I miss being outdoors in Oregon in the MT. Hood National Forest. I've been stalked in my camp by a Bobcat. What I; am afraid of is maybe the rare Mountain Lion, a pack of Cayotes or a Bear. When I am out in the forest, I always carry my side arm on my belt where it is visible and easy to get. I love the sounds of the forest when the wind blows or when it rains. You can read a human's actions most of the time as they approach the camp and I am always ready if they do.
That does not mean I would always be in control of a situation, but I would be ready at least to react!

I see many deer in suburban Heights of Cleveland and in outlying county. Bicycling for food, no panther or Bobcat, yet. If further out or up, maybe Luke should carry protection as you do, Steve. Mountain Lions and bears before winter must gather and forage. Knife ?

Hey Luke. Bubble and Squeak is made from mashed potato and left over vegetables such as brussell sprouts, broccoli and onion all mashed together then shallow pan fried. It often resembles a hash brown in shape but not always. Should be a little crispy on the outside then softer in the middle. I'm from Yorkshire in England where we pop a little salt and pepper seasoning into it as well. That's pretty much it. So its a dish made from left overs essentially.

Bubble and Squeek is one of the classic dishes that has made Britsh Cuisine feared and reviled the world over ;-) After a big roast on Sunday there will be cold meat and left-over veg for Monday. The boiled potatoes and boiled cabbage are chopped up together very small and formed into a pattie, then fried until it is quite burned and crispy on the outside. This is then served with the cold meat and what we call pickle - more like your relish. The pattie can also have onion or garlic added, and salt and pepper. A little flour might be added if it is too wet. You might add other cooked veg like carrots or leeks. The boiled potatoes might be replaced by mashed. At Christmas the cabbage is often replaced by sprouts. It's a very versatile dish...

Bubble and Squeak is basically leftovers- mashed potatoes, other veg and maybe bits of roast, all mixed together. In my experience it’s usually baked in an oven with some cheese on top, or heated up in a frying pan. A great way to minimise kitchen scraps.

    Thank you again!
I really appreciate your honesty with noises and camping for the first time.
I was watching this episode with my wife and son. My wife asked how might it feel to camp alone? How is it mentally possible?
Then you answered her question! 😂
I was able to share with my son strategies for camping. He started to learn. This time gave us a great moment to bond.
We learned a lot! Thank you!

Living in NJ my only fear of solo camping is not the animal or weather elements,it's the human element. This state has such strict carry laws it's not easy to have protection with you as easy as other states. Additionally it likely your vehicle may not be where you leave it when you get back. We don't have really remote areas where it's unlikely anyone will be around you. Like the classic Animal's song says "We gotta get out of this place"

I would agree NJ is not the best place to go camping. Luckily we have more remote areas in PA or NY that are not too far away to have more seclusion.

Hello from Northen Wisconsin, I dont comment much but love your videos. I myself do not like camping of any kind lol but enjoy watching other's lol my idea of camping is getting a cabin with running water and toilet and stove. Thank you for sharing. Been watching your videos for over a year keep doing what you do. God bless 😊 Bubble and squeak is a fried British dish made with potatoes and cabbage. It's quite similar to the Irish colcannon. Bubble and squeak, which often contains meat such as ham or bacon, is traditionally made on Monday with the leftovers from Sunday's dinner or on Boxing Day with leftovers from the Christmas feast.

Thank you so much for talking about camping alone. In the woods, that was a very good topic to talk about things that go bump in the night. That is not my problem, my problem is like a Phobia. Do not like spiders whatsoever. That should be the next thing you should talk about on your next camp out, please. Enjoy your videos be safe take care my friend ciao for now.

I remember when I was visiting LA, I woke up and it was SOO foggy.. I stand outside and took a deep breath, close my eyes and I feel that fog on my hands and face. My sister woke up asked me what am I doing? I told her, I’m experiencing my very first fog and smelling it and feeling it! It’s amazing!! She said, you’re crazy, it’s cold! I told her, do you know in Vegas we DONT have fog. It snows by some miracle and only once in a while. But never fog up!! I see ur Video now and that fog and sound of rain.. wowww! It’s amazing site to see and listen to! Thank you for showing us this kind of site. 👍❤️

I am sorry to learn you lost your son, Luke. I believe you mentioned this in earlier adventures, but I did not have an account then to convey my sympathies. I totally agree with you about getting away to think in a peaceful place. You and I both love the forests and wide open spaces for that reason and for nature’s beauty.
But I would like to address the portion of your community that are just getting into camping and are fearful of going into the woods to camp as you mentioned here Luke. As a former backpacker that has slept in the woods in a tent, under a tarp, and with No Shelter at All (of which I Do Not recommend), I Would recommend starting out gradually by going with at least another person/group and using a Tent and going for a short period of time (1-2 days). Also camp Close to your vehicle, within a few miles. This has many benefits such as being able to return to your vehicle if something goes wrong, less fear due to other people being with/or able to help you and fewer concerns/issues with insects, snakes or rodents. If you are fearful about not being able to see what goes crack in the night, I would also recommend using a tarp Over your tent instead of your rain fly so you can see what it is. This may reduce the “Wild” fantasies of what monsters you are conjuring in your mind. However I also get the feeling of security that being surrounded by semi-solid walls might give you, so do whatever makes you feel more at ease. Other humans are a different story. I know carry laws vary widely by state in the US, but even in restrictive states some amount of pepper/bear spray or a small knife can be carried for protection. (Just don’t tell the police that is why your carrying it). Usually most people you encounter are not out to get you, but car theft Can be a problem and that is why I would camp close to your vehicle if it is a populated camp site.
But my Number 1 tip is, NEVER put FOOD IN or AROUND your tent or sleeping area!! I realize that new campers may think that monsters and animals are just Waiting to Eat you Alive. Although this may be true for tics and mosquitoes/flies, most of the animals and rodents Don’t Want to Eat you. They just want your Trail Mix !! So if you want to limit your close encounters w/ wild life, Keep All Food in a bear bag or container. (I have SEEN a raccoon Eating a Jolly Rancher while sitting on the stomach of the kid who put the candy at the bottom of his sleeping bag while sleeping under a tarp so I KNOW what I am talking about !!) As for my favorite side of the coin to flip, Luke, it would be the side I called when making the bet !! (actually have no preference).
