That bad crunchy noise is the voice coil windings (The actual coil not the spider), which have become unwound from the voice coil former tube, started overlapping each other like a slinky smashed with a sledgehammer, and are now rubbing between the motor(magnet) inside bore diameter and the former tube due to there not being enough clearance for the overlapped windings. This is why it’s hard to push the cone up and down. You probably blasted the thing with the gain and bass boost turned all the way up on the amplifier and then started smelling a funny electric burning smell slightly before you cooked the coil winding insulation off entirely, shorted the now uninsulated windings, severed the winding at the point where it short circuited due to heat, and here you are now trying to give cpr to a rotten carcass. IT’S DEAD. LEAVE IT. And with the winding shorted (severed/intermittently shorted), the resistance measurement (ohms) will go down significantly and you could potentially fry your amplifier if you keep trying to feed power to a sub in that condition. Unless it has really good protection circuitry. That’s a good brand of sub to learn on though lol. I learned on an Alpine type R.

Bro you just answered my question and pointed out the exact symptoms i had with my sub today what the heck 😂😂. I was driving and outta no whwre i smelled a funky coil burning smell and i popped my trunk open and my speakers were smoking. Checked my skar amp and it was fine, it wasnt hot. Then i tried pressing my subs and they were hard asf. So i began to question myself I wired them wrong 🤔🤔. I took the subs out and checked the wiring and it was fine, no wires were fried either. I was expecting those subs to give out soon cuz of old they were and loud i blasted them. Now my question is, how can i tell if I wired them wrong ?🤔

Your response would really help me. Cuz i just bought some expensive subs and i do not wanna blow those lol

Do you have a multi meter? Put it on the setting that looks like the horseshoe symbol, this means ohms. Test the speaker wires at the amp and see how many ohms. This will tell you if you are wired correctly. Type in the brand and model number of your amplifier into Google followed by the word “specs”. If you don’t know the minimum ohm rating per channel/bridged of your amplifier then you can’t correctly wire subs. It’s confusing at first but once you understand how series and parallel wiring can be used to change the final ohms value of a wire pair, it is an enlightening moment and you are no longer at that point a child behind the wheel of a parked car smashing buttons and pretending to drive.

Tell me the make and model of your amp and the make and model of your subs and how many of them you bought and I’ll tell you what’s up. Not to invade the comment thread of this video lol, but I can help.

Unless your speakers built different that’s a spider the coil is a wrapped coil of wire inside the middle section

Let's please refrain from giving advice to others, unless you actually know wtf your talking about... Gold-ish thing is called a spider. It's a diaphragm. Not a coil. A COIL, is a winding of wire

What you are pointing at is called a spider, the coil is underneath the spider.

Allowing the sub to slide off the box and yank on the wires connects to the amps circuit board is good for it lol how many times u do that to it or similar? That's prolly the problem, and ive never seen a sub work here and there, usually the coil works or it doesn't, idk wtf is wrong with this besides it is made by walmart!
