  • 4 MORE Signs You're a Bad Car Owner! While Electric Vehicles have less maintenance than an ICE Car, they are not maintenance less. Again, this goes back to the “Appliance Ideology” that modern American Car Owners have. For the same reason people are somehow finding ways to blow up super reliable Honda Civics, the same happens with Electric Cars, when in the hands of naïve lazy owners. Cars are Cars. Seriously, Electric isn’t invincible. You know Electric Motors were used in cars for a Century as well right? Nothing lasts forever, we are mortal and so are the machines we create. I originally was going to make a video called “The Greatest Fear Modern Car Enthusiasts Have” which was going to be about Repair and how that word is somehow scarier to the Modern Consumer than ever before, but I had to stop myself from making that video because I got too philosophical. okay go watch the video now.

It pisses me off how older cars and new ones are used and abused because some people are totally lazy and don't care. I understand if some don't have the money for maintenence but it's still dangerous, I remember listening to the Car Wizard talking about how his brother sold his Nissan Z-coupe to a friend and the struts which were rusted out went through the hood and he ended up in front of a train. Another thing to mention about driving on empty: this should apply to most older cars but may very well to new ones too - your fuel pump is cooled down by the fuel it sits in, so by driving on empty you are depriving it of that cooling effectively reducing its life span.

Yes, and your 10-ply 32" mud tires & lug-centric wheel spacers on a half ton has been killing your fuel economy and wheel bearings and brake life, and driving around with a misfire has shattered your dash, worn out the wheel bearings additionally, worn out the driveshaft u-joints, worn (howling) ring and pinion, & caused faulty wiring from the constant violent shaking from lockup after 40mph..... all for a $40 set of spark plug wires and a $30 distributor cap and rotor.... cap and rotor had carbon build up causing sporadic random misfires on 7 of the 8 cylinders, and #7 was constant.... dude changed the plugs but not the old wires... #7 was broken inside the boot going to the plug ... $70+ tax and an 2 hours of labor could've saved $1000s in repairs and broken parts and chasing down electrical wiring issues.

In the last one, you forgot to mention that the fuel pump may also suck up air and get air in your system, causing sporadic acceleration/running, sputtering, etc, and also the pump will get hot particularly during long highway drives with low fuel because the fuel actually acts as a coolant for the pump, so you'll wear your pump out faster.

I'd push back on the driving on empty being an issue for all cars. I know my Miata has 4 gallons left on E, and my WRX has 2 gallons left on E. Some cars are just really conservative on gas levels, whether that's intentional to save drivers from starving their car (much easier to convince people to fill on E than 1/4, even if that's the same actual amount of fuel), or just random inaccuracy from car to car.

So here you should look for a gas station, if your car is low on fuel. Yet I wonder if this also applys for EVs, because charging stations are still very rare here.

Speed limit went down to, I think, 35 mph while approaching a small tunnel. I hadn't seen a seen another car on the road in minutes, so I rolled down my window to do the usual gun-it-in-the-tunnel thing. Pressed the brake to slow down to speed, got ready, and then floored it.

Do you in the US have "regular mandatory maintnance checks"? Like when you buy new car you need to take it to the service center after 1 year or 10-15k miles or your car loses warranty. Usual car warranty in EU is 5 years, so you will go there 4 times minimum, so at least you have a notion that car needs this maintnance and will keep on doing it even after your warranty expires..
Tires/wheels are the same, If you swap tires from summer to winter the shop will usually do basic the aligment for free or very little money.
No. 3 is just scary to think about and thankfully almost non existant in Europe (mostly manuals that eliminate this).
No. 4 again less of issue in Europe as there are gas station everywhere, I just need to look if the warning turns on when i start the car and I have gas station in less then 3miles in every direction of my possible travel by road. This may vary depending on your place of living... but you are usually in less then 20 miles from gas station pretty much anywhere.

6:00 now there is something to note about this, depending on some hybrids and EVs they will automatically do quite heavy braking when you take your foot off the gas. my volt for example can go 80-0 in about 15 seconds with no brakes applied all the way down to the last 2mph. the brake light also turns on the moment you take your foot off the throttle which makes it seem like I'm slowing down. i know others that down turn the brake light on at all until it has completely stopped. the rules for hybrids and EVs on this are basically nonexistent which leaves it up to the manufacture who is going to do what is most cost effective rather than what is actually safe.

I have run my car super low on fuel on purpose in the past, and probably need to again to be honest. It doesn't get used all that often, so the gas just sits in the tank and slowly loses octane, I know it's more stress on the pump and engine, but I want to get that fuel run through and out before it gets so bad the engine starts missing running the fuel. If the engine is already missing, which I'm fortunate to not have ended up letting it sit for long enough to happen, I plan to top it off with some high octane stuff till it stops and then run it through.
I'm running on tires that are at least seven years old, probably closer to ten because they were on the car when I got it. Still got a lot of tread left, wear is dead even, happy to keep using them. Honestly, I'm surprised that the dry rot is minimal on these tires.

One huge problem now is the damn "winter mix" or 10% Ethanol blend. If you are in a state that forces this garbage you can NEVER run with below a quarter tank. Rust will occur in the pump, tank, and even the fuel injection rails. Also, if you happen to live in an area that has heavy rains, derechos, or monsoons, expect to find large amounts of contaminating water in the gas station tanks. Clean fuel is essential to your engine health and you really should pay close attention to the fuel you are buying. Especially with a high performance car, you often have to find "raw gas" or fuel that has no ethanol. It's coats a lot more, but it's a lot safer for both older, and high octane needing car (92 and up).

In regards to left foot braking, when I sat in the driver seat for the first time in my life I Iegit thought that's the proper thing to do on the road since I got used to it from driving on racing sims from such a young age, then I tried it IRL and pressed wayyyy too hard and that's when I was told the right foot should do both.
I still think left foot braking is a good skill to learn for emergencies and it also made more sense to me at first (because I thought to myself what was my left foot supposed to do on an automatic? Just stay inactive??) But as long as everything on the road goes as supposed I'm used to right foot braking.
However I still do it while reversing because of a car accident I caused one time :(

    • @LAndrewsChannel
      @LAndrewsChannel 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

Yes, in automatics your left foot does nothing. "left foot braking" is more or less pointless. In emergencies the milliseconds it takes to left the foot off the accelerator and pressing the brake will not save your life nor kill you. You will also not need to brake and accelerate or the other way around either, emergency situations are over in seconds. The only exception of using left foot braking might be starting on a steep hill if you don't have autohold.
Regarding reversing, automatics have creep so they move in either direction without accelerating the moment the foot is off the brake. I don't see how or why you would need to accelerate while going back so the foot should stay on the brake anyway.

@@LAndrewsChannel in regards to the reversing thing my right foot slipped once and I front ended a parked car while hitting the gas in reverse, it went over a curve and crashed on an electricity pole and the entire rear end of that car got squashed, the world is lucky there wasn't someone in that car.
From then I can't trust my right foot in reversing situations.
I luckily never had an emergency situation that required such heavy braking, but I'm already so used to it from racing simulators and kart racing so I predict it's just gonna happen on instinct as my left foot can push much harder than my right too.
I do wanna take an emergency driving course one day to correct some habits that need correcting, I'm only like a year on the road

the left foor on the brake thing is something ive never seen in canada, so it might mostly be a usa issue, I might be wrong or it might just be a western canada issue

I can’t imagine trying to drive with my left foot on the brake. I have been driving for a few years now, but I never really thought someone could try to do that.
