    That sounds beautiful ! And without the tell tell click and clack so many have. I love the sound of a flat head 8. Thanks

    She sounds and looks really sweet. You did a nice job for sure. I love my speedway pumps. Do you have a fluid filled balancer. Just wondering, I’m trying to justify the cost. Was looking for some feedback on it. Can you please take the camera outside so we can hear the exhaust notes. 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍🍻👍

    The starter is much louder than the smooth running engine. Is that an 8BA distributor on a 59AB block? How did you defeat the spark knock common to flathead engines with a compression ratio that high?

  • @johnnymac3211
    @johnnymac3211 ปีที่แล้ว

    I see that you're running a Rochester carb. I ran one on my 1950 Mercury for awhile, but went back to the Holly 885. What intake are you using for the Rochester?

  • @ddkoda
    @ddkoda 6 ปีที่แล้ว +6

    One of the best sounding and smoothest running flatheads I've heard! Excellent compression and oil pressure readings. All wise and sensible upgrades especially the Mustang connecting rods. What is your current displacement and compression ratio?

    • @thedude319
      @thedude319  6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Thank you. The motor is 315 cubes and we are running 11:1 compression. We have the motor in my 42' Ford 1/2 ton truck and we plan to have it on a chassis Dino in the next couple weeks. We are shooting for 300hp. I will post the video as soon as we have it done.

    • @ddkoda
      @ddkoda 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Absolutely amazing! I've always heard that Ford flatheads shouldn't go beyond an 8:1 compression ratio. However you've gone all the way up to 11:1 and it sounds just great, the deepest Ford flathead sound I've heard, bar none. You've done everything right throughout your project. I think you'll pass 300 hp. Can't wait to hear the results.

    • @thedude319
      @thedude319  6 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      ddkoda Thank you again. We've added main support caps, and the rods are rated for 600hp. So we do not anticipate problems. We went with a stock Mercury 8CM cam. The problem with flatheads is breathing. We've ported and relived the motor to help it breath. Our goal is to have our power at lower Rpm's. We will know exactly what we have when we Dino the motor in a few weeks. I do know this, I've never driven a Flathead with this much torque. It's got a lot of go. We've made a few changes to the motor since this video was made. For one we added a 4 barrel aluminum intake and throttle body fuel injection from fitech.

    With all the upgrades, I certainly hope that you will lose those restrictive exhaust manifolds.

    Where did you get the kit to modify the crab style distributor to accept a 8BA style distributor?

    • @troublemakercustoms2376
      @troublemakercustoms2376 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You just use an 8BA front cover, and Speedway sells an early to late cam adapter.

    Nice build! Did I hear you correctly? You are spinning a 4.4" stroke?
    Would love to know more about that. Are those off the shelf parts or did you totally customize that rotating assembly?
    Appreciate any info you are willing to share.
    Thanks!

      I had a flattie grenade in my 39 Ford Standard decades ago,3/8 x 3/8 too. I also ran a factory cam,a 3TA truck cam which to my mind ran better than a lot of purported 'race cams'. What i had was a modified 49 Mercury crank which was forged steel . I dont think you find one of those today very easily.

    Was there anything done to improve the cooling?

    • @thedude319
      @thedude319  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      gvet47 other than throughly cleaning the block new water pumps, and a new radiator there wasn’t much else done. I run 180 degree thermostats in it and runs about 180 all the time accept on really hot days it will get around 192-194 degrees.

    • @gvet47
      @gvet47 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@thedude319 I thought I have read that the center head water returns had more cooling problems then the later end of head returns. The block water jsckets were improved later with the end return heads.
      Always wanted a flathead V8 but just ended up with flathead sixes. 😭 But I bet now days you would do a lot with them.

    What do u value this beauty at ?

    • @thedude319
      @thedude319  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Stephen Stewart it’s hard to say. Dad built this motor for a guy in Chicago he passed away before dad finished it by the time it was all said and done, Dad had over $10k in parts and machine work. That wasn’t any of his labor. He couldn’t sell it afterwards for what he had in it. Then dad passed away less than a year after I made this video with him. The motor is now in my 42’ 1/2 ton. He started another one identical to this one I should be finishing it in the next month. I hope to get 9-10k but that probably isn’t going to happen.

    Why it is called a hybrid?

    • @thedude319
      @thedude319  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      just Marcin Didn’t know what else to call it. Mostly just because it’s an 59AB converted over to an 8BA ignition. Plus it’s got some other internals from different engines.
