Scuffing the panels with a scotch-brite pad or 320 sandpaper before applying the clear will result in a MUCH glossier end result.
Yes but the patina on this truck was so rough it was ripping the scuff pad
You went all in on that first applicator dip Brother 😄🤙🏼 Truck looks awesome, great work!
@@FlippinCustomized If you want to make that REALLY shine now that you've already got the clear on it, carefully sand it to 600 grit and then wipe on a final layer. That's like doing a "flow coat". If you can feel the roughness of the surface before you apply the clear, it will be dull. But 600 to 800 grit will give you the shine you wanted. It takes a little experimentation if you're not a regular auto body worker, but you can definitely do it. And if you feel REALLY froggy, you can have someone show you how to wet sand the final coat with 1500 grit wet, and then use a cutting compound and a buffer to get a glass finish!
Cool rig right there.
🙏 we have a playlist on it too
@@FlippinCustomized def gonna watch!
Thanks buddy
Did you do anything between the 1st and 2nd clear coat to prep it?
No just have to let it set
I've been painting drum shells with rustoleum gloss coats with appropriate dry times between them. When I apply the clear coat using spray max 2k clear glamour, I get that wrinkling in random spots. Other times I've no problems at all. Very careful to apply light first layer to flash then wet coats. Any help Scott?
Man I have had that happen too with clear, have to be very light first coat, but honestly probably a better question for a body shop, I will be spraying clear this weekend to 😳
@Flippin Customized came across your video 1st time today. The paint reaction caught my attention Pronto. I have been running through instructional/ tutorials trying to find answers. Never get what I need to learn just a whole bunch of what I don't. I enjoyed and identify with your method madness and honesty about how things don't always go right. Rock on... I'll be watching and learning.
Curious to see how this holds up long term
Me too
@@FlippinCustomizedhow’s it looking 7 months in? I feel like I’ve seen several that were years later and still looking mint but idk
do you know what this is made out of? want to determine if there are any cons to this before i try it myself.
I do not but they have a great website and support staff to help
@@FlippinCustomized 👌
Surely long term the boiled linseed oil is better for it than this?
Undecided
How much is the kit? My carbon fiber hood was destroyed by the sun I'm gonna clear coat her after
I believe it’s around $150 a kit
@@FlippinCustomized my carbon fiber hood is in bad shape I'm trying to figure out how to get it right. When you have the time can I take a peek at my video and let me know what you think
@@FlippinCustomized I'm trying to get my carbon fiber hood back to the way it was. It has some damage from the sun. Can I dry sand a carbon fiber hood? What grit should I use? Thanks.
I wonder if you can buff it/ or wax it
I think they have a product for it yes but not sure about buffing it
@@FlippinCustomized I’m thinking about doing it to my 89 c1500,the clear coat is pealing and the hood and roof is completely down to the base coat.
How’s it holding up?
Actually quite well about to use on another project
Yeah but how long does it last? And how does it come off in flakes?
All depends on how well surface was prepared
@@FlippinCustomized lol ok thanks for that great info rofl
?
You scuff the whole thing for even finish the scuffs is what the clear holds onto.
It’s was scuffed with scotch pad in the kit
If you like this rusty, crusty look, why not just spray multiple coats of 2k clear coat on it ?
Same concept but you can wipe this on
You should have done that 30 years ago now it just looks like shiny crap
K bud thanks for the view 🤙
@@FlippinCustomized😂😂😂 I love that reply
Ya looks like gloss isn’t the way to go for bare metal like you have.
I agree matte finish better choice or many many coats of gloss
That truck is WAY beyond patina! There is a fine line between patina and ratty. This is at the ratty stage.
Yup it’s our “rat rod” shop truck bud 👍
@@FlippinCustomized It's an awesome rat rod! I love it!
Haters gonna hate
@@pjl1919 Who's hating? I ain't hating. I'm pointing out ratty vs patina. The OP agrees.
@@tarstarkusz oh shit my dumb self read that wrong 🤦♂️ to many Miller lites today 😂
Next time, don't use degreaser spray and wipe with mineral spirits
We went specifically as instructions stated but will give it a shot
