Why do birds Suddenly appear? Everytime you are near Just like me They long to be Close to you Why do stars Fall down from the sky? Everytime you walk by Just like me They long to be Close to you
This song brings tears to my eyes. Me and my husband danced to this song back in 1972 when we were 18. He proposed a year later. We spent 31 years together. He was the light of my light, the fire that kept me living. He fathered my children. They were best 31 years of my life I could ever have asked for. Cancer took him early. He only had 50 years...I look back on this song and smile, it represents the life we shared and the years we cherished together. You will forever be in my heart David

The first Carpenters song I heard of was “For All We Know”, in 1970, as I followed the weekly newspaper Top 20 hits. One of the number one hits was “Knock Three Times” by Dawn. “For All We Know” was released after “Close to You” and “We’ve only just Begun”. Karen was only 20 or 21 when she sang this. Hearing her sing you realize you are hearing when of the best singers in musical history but you are also sad that she left us at only 32.
IDK if this happens to other people, but I often wake up with music playing in my head. This morning, it was this song out of the blue. My subconscious has good taste in music
She is amazing... A voice that connects you up high to Celestial Dimensions... Dear Karen up there, thank you so much for having gifted humankind with your genius talent!!!
What a joy to see: 1) someone with pure vocal talent just singing 2) no lip syncing; no auto-tune 3) no gymnastics 4) no distracting wardrobe/wardrobe malfunction 5) letting the brilliant composition, lyrics, etc do that talking. I feel bad for those who did not grow up before 1980. In concept, this is the bar to which all good music should aspire to.
I was born IN 1980 and truly enjoyed my eighties childhood. Music, film, art, television, (Atari) games, and just life in general were still good then. Entertainment didn't turn into trash until the late nineties. I feel for people born during that time. I teach freshman English at a college. I just asked my students to write a paragraph on HOW DAVID BOWIE CHANGED POP CULTURE. Everyone said they didn't know who he was. SMDH!
+Ingrid Tostito I do beg your pardon for sounding rude, but you are all acting like idiots. "Mom" and "Mum" is probably the most famous difference between American and British English.
I've gotta stop listening to music of the 60's and 70's--all I do is cry because they touch me to the core. This is the last song I'm listening to today because when I reminisce about these decades, I realize how awesome life was back then.
I reminisce about them and I wasn’t even alive then hahaha I would love to take a time machine and just go back to the 70’s and 80’s and see what things were like. Great music and great movies
It's good to have nostalgia, and remember good times. But I realized I don't want to always think of the past, a time you can never get back, as the happy days. You have to make now the happy days. Or else my childhood would always be the best days instead of enjoying my own children's childhood as just as great times. Peace!
Literally 99% of the comment section is about "She was Pretty brought me here". I wanna be the 1%. Who else came here because they actually listen to the Carpenters?
The Carpenters made such a lovely song. The best thing I love about it is that it was used on 'The Simpsons'. This is Homer and Marge's love song which was played when they first meet (Season 2, Episode 12: "The Way We Was"). It was used again in 'The Simpsons Movie' with Homer and Marge dancing at their wedding and on "Treehouse of Horror XXIII" when alternate universe Marge sees a pile of Homers who were all defeated by Artie Ziff. This was even used as a musical doorbell when Marge bought it (Season 10, Episode 17: "Maximum Homerdrive".)

Me in 2022, I have all their albums and CD’s now from the cloud. Funny story, way back when in the 70’s my grandmother wanted to go to the mall. She said since you took me I will buy you an album. When we got home she said I want to hear the music. The Carpenters album Close to you is what I picked. When she hear the first song. She wanted to hear the total album as all her other grand children were rock and roll. I was blessed.

look at this band these are the days where the music was good and there were smart musicians where the music era was good in the 70's. such a shame world because I didn’t reach that era but I am thankful for these masterpieces.
It was July 1970 ... I was 14 and had spent the summer in Vancouver with my aunt and uncle. It was the first big trip I ever took away from home in Saskatchewan. During that summer I met a cute girl who was about my age and this became our summer song. I left at the end of the summer, never to see her again. Every time I hear this song I think of that time so long ago ... great memories.
This is the type of music I listened to in the early 70's before I discovered bands like Led Zeppelin and Pink Floyd. This song stands the test of time. Simply beautiful.

Im 61 years old . What a wonderful voice . Wish she lived to old age . Rest in peace Karen .
Omg,!!, what a treasure she is. Her voice just makes me want to hold her while she sings. I don't think she realized how many people adored her. RIP. Never be a voice like that again.
Rolling Stone has her at 94 on the list of greatest singers of all time. Just more proof they have no idea what they're doing. She's easily top five, if not #1.
Number 1 without any doubt!
Rolling Stone turn to shit years ago
Rolling Stone did a very disrespectful story ,about the Great White concert fire.
Calling Great White fans washed up ,nobodies.
Rolling stone should stick to rating rock. How stupid. They might as well put opera singers on the list while they were at it
Rolling Stone must be brain dead.
If you find yourself sitting on a cloud listening to Karen Carpenter you have made it to heaven.
Amen ! She's an angel for sure
Great now how do I get down
beautiful comment she was great
Heaven isn’t real though
2023 - What a voice!
Karen was only 20 or 21 when she sang this. Hearing her sing you realize you are hearing when of the best singers in musical history but you are also sad that she left us at only 32.
Am I the only one who thinks she’s just adorable?! 😊
Just listening now good day from France 😘😘😘
She looks like Snow White in this!! 💕💕🐦🐰🐥🦌🦊🐦🐥
I also think she's adorable, and a wonderful singer/ performer💓💓
No
@@skeptictank6471 fuck you
IDK if this happens to other people, but I often wake up with music playing in my head. This morning, it was this song out of the blue. My subconscious has good taste in music
She is amazing... A voice that connects you up high to Celestial Dimensions... Dear Karen up there, thank you so much for having gifted humankind with your genius talent!!!
Exquisitely said 😌
Celestial dimentions! Perfect!
What a joy to see:
1) someone with pure vocal talent just singing
2) no lip syncing; no auto-tune
3) no gymnastics
4) no distracting wardrobe/wardrobe malfunction
5) letting the brilliant composition, lyrics, etc do that talking.
I feel bad for those who did not grow up before 1980. In concept, this is the bar to which all good music should aspire to.
Well said! I agree! It's 100% talent! No gimmicks needed!
SMDH!
I'm glad I did not grow up before 1980.
Well said!
Well said :')
For my Mum, always love you, God bless you RIP
+Richy VDB mom?
mom, yes lol
srslyy???
+Calvin ivan Why does it matter if she/he spells it mom wrong you literally say "srsly???" when she/he was just giving this song to his/her mother
+Ingrid Tostito I do beg your pardon for sounding rude, but you are all acting like idiots. "Mom" and "Mum" is probably the most famous difference between American and British English.
I am an old metal head, but this is the greatest music I grew up on listening too.
As a boy in the 60,s I thought Karen's voice is the most beautiful I ever heard , I still do 🎶
SHE WAS PRETTY BROUGHT ME HERE ❤️❤️ they always choice the sweetest ENG songs ( like HEALER ) 😍
me too. this is a nice song 😆
I've gotta stop listening to music of the 60's and 70's--all I do is cry because they touch me to the core. This is the last song I'm listening to today because when I reminisce about these decades, I realize how awesome life was back then.
Peace Joy Hi Peace, I can understand what you feel. Maybe those were the most happiest times in your life. It's natural.
agreed
Rip I was born just after the 20th century
I reminisce about them and I wasn’t even alive then hahaha I would love to take a time machine and just go back to the 70’s and 80’s and see what things were like. Great music and great movies
It's good to have nostalgia, and remember good times. But I realized I don't want to always think of the past, a time you can never get back, as the happy days. You have to make now the happy days. Or else my childhood would always be the best days instead of enjoying my own children's childhood as just as great times. Peace!
I have tears in my eyes everytime I hear this song sung by Karen, what an Angel.
It’s magical
Tri angel.
Me too 😢
Karen was born 73 years ago on March 2, 1950. Greatest female singer ever! 👏👍😍
Thanks for mentioning today...we all miss her 💕
Literally 99% of the comment section is about "She was Pretty brought me here".
I wanna be the 1%. Who else came here because they actually listen to the Carpenters?

+茉利 (。-`ω´-) yeah, i never heard of "she was pretty". just love the song. it will always belong to karen carpenter.

+茉利 (。-`ω´-) Me too
The Carpenters made such a lovely song.
Get a life
I have five lives on my other realm.
***** i hate how they used a cover though Karen's voice was so beautiful!
I didnt Know that🙎
They use it in Apu and Manjula's Wedding...
Such a beautiful song by the Carpenters has passed the test of time ❤
Her voice was so beautiful.
This song may have came out 33 years before I was born but even at 16 I’m still listening to it it is so soothing
👊🏻
Keep hope and romance alive.
@@musicstewart9744 I certainly will
I covered this song as a tribute to her : th-cam.com/video/3nlxgPBHUA8/w-d-xo.html Let me know how bad is it?😹😅
@@Therhizomemind it’s great
Why do birds suddenly appear every time you are near
Just like me, they long to be close to you
Why do stars fall down from the sky every time you walk by
Just like me, they long to be close to you
On the day that you were born
The angels got together
And decided to create a dream come true
So they sprinkled moon dust in your hair of gold
And starlight in your eyes of blue
That is why all the girls in town follow you all around
Just like me, they long to be close to you
💓
willson eo Gracias 🙌🏽
Me in 2022, I have all their albums and CD’s now from the cloud. Funny story, way back when in the 70’s my grandmother wanted to go to the mall. She said since you took me I will buy you an album. When we got home she said I want to hear the music. The Carpenters album Close to you is what I picked. When she hear the first song. She wanted to hear the total album as all her other grand children were rock and roll. I was blessed.
The cleanest voice ❤
i just spent 6 hours learning how to play the first two verses of this on piano, so i can pay tribute to a legend whenever i want.
47 years ago and this song sung by Karen will always be the most beautiful sung live song ever
I am 47 years old
I emigrated to america in 1971 at edged 20 this song brings me good memories .
This was my music ..
Im so glad younger generations are loving it!
One of clearest, cleanest recording voices ever in pop music.
I tear up immediately when this song comes up. I spent my whole childhood listening to this with my dad, and I can only imagine myself going down the aisle to this!
I well up every time I listen to her. I grew up to this music. Just incredible
Awesome
im crying
Always a pleasure to listen Unfortunately no more of these songs today. Such a shame these songs nowadays.
My little baby boy, Martin, used to dance all over the living room to that song. It's beautiful to this day. Karen Carpenter has a unique, gorgeous voice.
I can't believe this is performed live, sounds just as good the record wow!!
Fil from Wings of Pegasus just did an analysis of this song comparing the live version to the recorded version only to find out that this live version is better!! He loves her voice too.
@@barbaraburton8914 I also watched the wings of Pegasus analysis video. Karens live pitching was amazing. . In my opinion , as a singer , she is one of the all time greats.
That sound guy deserves anEmmy! What An amazing band!
@@barbaraburton8914 I just listened to his analysis. I was pleased, but not surprised by what he found. Everyone who listened to her back in the 70s knows she was just that good.
Karen Carpenter’s voice was absolutely angelic!😢
It is rare for songwriters to define an era: Burt Bacharach did. So, too, did Paul Williams and Jimmy Webb. RIP fellas.
This is for me one of the most beautiful performances of all the times, I will love Karen Capenter for ever.
This song was played at a million wedding receptions.
And will be played at more than that in years to come, the one and only voice of a angel 👼
Her voice helps me when i anxiety
th-cam.com/video/9PBIxDSxPb0/w-d-xo.html
I agree! I've had people tell me that my daughter's voice soothes them! She's only 13 and doesn't realize the gift she has!
Amber winters me too
me too
As a former anxiety sufferer I could help you as well.
She always makes me, a grown man, cry.
look at this band these are the days where the music was good and there were smart musicians where the music era was good in the 70's. such a shame world because I didn’t reach that era but I am thankful for these masterpieces.
Such a voice! Just wonderful RIP Karen...

I got sand storm around my eyes... :'(
It was July 1970 ...
Karen, thank you Very much for your great Voice.❤️ Forever in our hearts.
This is the type of music I listened to in the early 70's before I discovered bands like Led Zeppelin and Pink Floyd. This song stands the test of time. Simply beautiful.
TRUTH INDEED AMEN
This was the song that was played when my son got married for the mother and son dance. I used to sing it to him when he was a baby and a young child. And he remembered.💝
So awesome
How beautiful
In October 70 they were 1st on the billboard and I was enjoying it in real time, what a privilege we had.
This song means so much to me, it always reminds of my wife. I'll never forget her beautiful yellow skin and glorious 4ft of blue hair.
That voice.
On the day that you were born, the angels got together and decided to create a dream come true.
The only Karen we love❤️
Please keep this at 69

I used to sing this to my son when he was a baby, he is 23 now.

Karen is 21 year old in this vid. maturity beyond her years. most soothing and relaxing voice ever. she was already too thin here. and imagine losing another 30-40lb from her small frame. so sad.
Why does she look so old? Why do all white people look like they’re in their mid 30s during their early 20s?
