The Ed Sullivan Show was a television variety program that aired on CBS from 1948-1971. For 23 years it aired every Sunday night and played host to the world's greatest talents. The Ed Sullivan Show is well known for bringing rock n' roll music to the forefront of American culture through acts like Elvis Presley, The Beatles, and The Rolling Stones. The entertainers each week ranged from comedians like Joan Rivers and Rodney Dangerfield, to Broadway stars Julie Andrews and Richard Burton, to pop singers such as Bobby Darin and Petula Clark. It also frequently featured stars of Motown such as The Supremes, The Temptations, Stevie Wonder and The Jackson 5. The Ed Sullivan Show was one of the only places on American television where such a wide variety of popular culture was showcased and its legacy lives on to this day.

People speak too idly anymore about singers with "the voice of an angel," but the term definitely applies to Karen's voice.❤
The first singer I'd ever heard that applied to was Karen in 1970, even by other recording Artists!
And she did it without autotune!
@@michiganengineer8621 She had to; it hadn't been invented yet.
She was so beautiful and talented. I wish she had believed that.
Karen Carpenter had such a unique and beautiful voice that no one could duplicate. She was also a superb 🥁 drummer!!!!
But her brother looked awful in one of the worst hairdos for a face like his I've ever seen on a male.
A beautiful woman with a beautiful voice. Sad she died so young and tormented.
She just wanted to be a drummer
A girl with an angel voice with a sad life...
RIP 🌹
Why? Why are these people with voices the touch our soul so troubled and unhappy?
@@johnlyndsay I can’t speak for Karen Carpenter, but if you put yourself in her position and imagine what her life must have been like, it’s not hard to see the incongruity that is foisted upon people in the spotlight. As a dude, I can only imagine what it was like to be a woman in the music industry in the 70’s. We, as the audience, use descriptors such as angelic, or innocent when we talk about her - but she was a woman with very human struggles. She managed to create beauty in spite of her struggles. Let’s say she was just as innocent as her public facing personal presents: what would that level of public scrutiny do to actual innocence? Many see her as beautiful and innocent, but the music industry only sees $$ and the entertainment industry has no problem abusing people to extract maximum profit - a scorched earth policy of greed. It doesn’t take much imagination to see that this is a recipe for ruin.
Artists don’t write like this anymore…. Such a classic.
The band that everyone loved but would never admit to it. I was one of them.
So true. Fun to watch all these rockers and recording technicians on TH-cam doing videos on Karen Carpenter. The look on their faces when she starts to sing is fantastic. They all start to smile. Her voice transcends all styles of music. Incredible Talent. And now for us old farts, it brings back a time we’re things were much simpler.
@@walterheinen5298 Simpler and much better.
Their early music was their best. This song was written by Burt Bacharach and Hal David.
Didn’t Herb Alpert take a part in it?? I heard he did!! Not sure what he did, but he was very excited about it….I will ask Siri on my iPhone.
About as unlikely a superstar pop act that ever was. The angel voice won out.
A true one of a kind Brother and Sister act!
They complemented each other perfectly. A Sister and Brother duo for the Ages.
Legendary voice so sad she left us so soon
I love the Carpenters ❤️
Never was drawn to The Carpenters records. In retrospect, will give credit to brother Richard's arranging talent. Sister Karen Carpenter carried the ball. A disciplined percussionist with a greater gift for expressive singing, she certainly left her mark. That her talent was sufficiently exploited at the expense of her personal life remains tragic. Here's to Karen Carpenter.
Agreed re: Richard's arrangements and Karen's uber gifts.
Don't take away her awesome gift as an excellent drummer as well as singer!
Such an angelic voice❗😇
the voice of an angel, and an incredible talent.
Karen was amazing
There's only one Karen Carpenter. She was a beautiful soul.
Yes. Unique.
They invented and owned the term soft rock. Nobody did it better than them. Bread a distant second
She was adorable with that haircut.
Loved her!
I had a crush on her when I was a little kid.
@@tyromecox3059 oh nice. It’s just sad what her eating disorder would eventually do to her appearance.
The bangs make her look like Mr. Spock's sister. She's still beautiful and talented 🥰
@@Duke_of_Prunes same initial thought on the bangs, but I loved it on KC! Totally adorable!
Was there ever a more beautiful voice?
And to think she did not want to sing and called herself a drummer only. These songs were made for Karen's voice. So beautiful and distinctive. Such heartfelt expression of sadness and pain but also a rare puriity which you rarely hear lifting you to higher realms. It was such a tragedy to lose Karen in this way. How many lovely songs we will never hear which were meant to be sung by Karen Carpenter. RIP Karen.
I keep imagining her doing covers of Madonna ballads like "Live to Tell". She'd have really made that song her own.
Takes me back to a nicer time in many ways.
Wow. Has it been over 50 years......
Sweet song, " close to you "
A true gift from GOD.
And she's playing the drums too!!! RIP❤
So sweet voice, so sad life :(
Karen had the voice of an angel, not to mention the fact that she was an incredible drummer (check out her drumming skills on TH-cam)! You also have to give props to Richard for his incredible musicianship, arrangements, background vocals, etc. They were an incredible team!
I agree! Karen Carpenter was an amazing 🥁 drummer and singer!! I loved watching her play several different types of drums!
She’s not actually playing on this. It’s Hal Blaine. But she could play.
@@kingofallwhites yes, I'm aware of that. That's why I said check out her drumming on TH-cam. Good old Hal Blaine played on just about every recording in existence!
Their music was so good. The 70's had it all.
This is perfect…so 1970…is’s like time travel back just watching …❤
"No one sings like you anymore"
This is the best rendition of Burt Bacharach's hit song. Karen Carpenter has the perfect clear, pure pleasant voice
that does this song the most justice and so enjoyable to listen to.
I love You, Karen! ❤
KC was beautiful
I love the Carpenters, it does sadden me every time I watch them them though, knowing we lost Karen always breaks my heart. Karen had the best female voice ever. Rest well Karen.
Another Great Group that should be in the Hall of Fame and isn’t.
They're not rock. Great music for sure, but not rock.
@@scottmcneely7954 Neither is Rap. But the Hall has been inducting rappers for the last 14 years
@@JJ-oe9wc right mamas and papas are also in it and they're not rock
@Douglas J.. I agree completely!!
I had the 45. I was about 12. Loved this❤❤
I did too! Same age I cried when she died
Supposedly she always considered herself a drummer first and then a singer. Either way I’m glad we all were able to hear this amazing talent. RIP 🥺
Burt Bacharach left us February 8th, 2023....40 years and 4 days after Karen soared away to heaven. We truly benefited from their time here on earth.
What an amazing voice, I can't describe it except, it's so silky soft and hypnotic, ❤
Just so pretty.
A beautiful woman with a beautiful voice. Sad, she died so young and to think of all the beautiful music that we missed, all we get today is mostly CRAP
I miss her and it brings back so many memories! People, places, etc.
In a similar way her and Janis Joplin couldn’t accept who they were yet both musical geniuses!
October 18, 1970. I was only 2 days old :)
I was in the first grade my teacher brought this to school. And played it . This and sing a song . .and we song it . I still play it today .🎼🎼🎼🎼🎼🎼🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
There won't come another.
My favourite Karren Carpenter song.
Takes me back to my childhood.
Magic every time I hear the soothing compositions, timeless.
Karen sounds and looks like an angel ✨
it really shock me how she play drums i love the carpenters😍💕💕💕
She was a top-notch drummer and percussionist...
THE BEST EVER
Miss you KC ❤
My children's lullabies are Karen Careenter. Beautiful soul
Karen Carpenter tinha uma das vozes mais lindas de todos os tempos , amo os Carperters
Carpenters music was the best up to hurting each other
OMG She could SING.
60s and 70s music are the best
Miss Her*****
The legendary and late great Hal Blaine was the drummer on the original recording. A stone cold Classic Ballad sung precisely. Brilliant.
One of the few records where karen didn't play the drums herself.
I watched an actual video of Karen Carpenter playing several different types of drums 🥁 so don't take away her talent.
Contrast these beautiful lyrics and songwriting with what people are growing up with today... I'm only a 32 year old Brit, but I've seen the change from uplifting positive music, to a music that degenerates and creates a depressed goalless generation.
the most heavenly voice
Good song!
We look back see this is the sad thing about anorexia. Sufferer's cant see how beautiful they really are. Looking at this footage you see she was the opposite of how she saw herself in the mirror.
Karen Carpenter was beautiful, Sexy, and was belessed the voice of an angel, and blessed with an incredible Talent for drumming and music in general. Karen and her brother Richard were equals in every way.
And combine there powers together and this brother and sister duo was unmatched.
A class of their own.
She is classed as the worlds first female drummer and a true trend setter in her own right. Without Karen as the first, there would be no female drummers to follow her, Debbie Peterson, Roxy Petrucci, etc.
Wish she could of seen the truth, and been happy with who she was in her lifetime. She deserved happiness and to see her self as we did as a beautiful Talented woman adored the world over.
RIP🙏 Karen Carpenter we sure do miss you, youll always be a legend 😢
This song is so good i get emotional listening to it ....alot of people that make music today are such garbage people and its sad ....wish i could take myself back in time
💚💚💚
Love this song, sang it in elementary school😊
gold
Karen's voice, her beauty, her talent, was everything, I think that in her time and until today many men have fallen in love with this woman... we miss you Karen 💔
Such a beautiful voice and person. If only she knew her legacy as she was going through her struggles
Superbe vidéo et superbe prestation des Carpenters.
What a voice.
Thank you carpenters..you added to the world of love.
Gracias por tu linda musica I love you
R.I.P. Karen... an angel watching over Homer and Marge since 1974
My mom used to sing this song to my brother when he was a baby. We lost him five years ago. He was 17. I love you Jakey.
🤩🥰 Aaaww -- This song brings back some of my happiest childhood memories! 🥰🤩
Such a beautiful voice rip
Great voice. And this was when she was still beautiful and hadn't started starving herself.
Beautiful!!!❣️🕊️
Atemporal
I was in 10th grade and a true blue rocker, listening to Zep, Black Sabbath and other bands at the time. But still went out and bought this album. My parents of course were shocked. For some reason I liked the Carpenters. I guess the reason being is they were totally opposite from what we heard on the radio in those days. Superstar and Goodbye to Love are still my favorites.
essa música ❤❤❤🥰
Lyrics
Why do birds suddenly appear
Every time you are near?
Just like me, they long to be
Close to you
Why do stars fall down from the sky
Every time you walk by?
Just like me, they long to be
Close to you
On the day that you were born the angels got together
And decided to create a dream come true
So they sprinkled moon dust in your hair of gold
And starlight in your eyes of blue
That is why all the girls in town
Follow you all around
Just like me, they long to be
Close to you
On the day that you were born the angels got together
And decided to create a dream come true
So they sprinkled moon dust in your hair of gold
And starlight in your eyes of blue
That is why all the girls in town
Follow you all around
Just like me, they long to be
Close to you
Just like me, they long to be
Close to you
Wa, close to you
Wa, close to you
Ha, close to you
La, close to you
🎶🎶🎶♥️♥️♥️excellent🎵🎵
we need more angelic voices now more then ever in these scary times!
Karen ❤👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Loved Karen. Remember being in a cafe in Dublin when news came on the radio that she was gone. Still sad.
🌹
I like how they start clapping the moment she starts singing
Ah... Trip down Memory Lane... beautiful.
A voz mais linda do mundo.
Voz que faz muita falta
Adeus Karen
r.i.p Burt Bacharach
świetna piosenka, przezdolna babka była
God

It is sad her mother was so jealous of her and didn't love her. I think her mother might have kill her allegedly a beautiful angelic voice God gifted
