Thank you for making this video! I was thinking about passing down my R2 to my brother and buying the R3, but the size reduction doesn't matter to me enough to give up so much. I opened my R2 up and replaced the noisy fan with a 60x25mm Noctua that moves more air while being practically silent. Noctua fans aren't cheap, but they are well worth the cost for projects like this. I also installed a 12v 5.5mm jack that internally taps on the automotive port, which I don't use, so that it's still switched and managed by the unit. I use the port frequently, and have made a set of RV style LED light strips which are powered using the 12v 5.5mm port. I felt quite proud of myself for finally completing a project for once!!
The River 3 feels like a downgrade compared to the River 2 unfortunately. The physical size difference doesn't really matter to most customers in my opinion. One is small and the other is really small. The battery capacity is less than the older one, it still only has ONE type C port, the warranty is shorter, the input wattage is less, it doesn't charge via USB C like the older one does... I don't understand why they even released this. It feels like an unfinished, rushed product with not enough to peak my interest. The only thing I really like about it is it'll probably drop the price on the River 2 🤷🏻♂️ great video though!
Thanks for watching! I was disappointed that they didn't add more USB-C ports when so many devices now use that for charging. It is much quieter than the River 2 - I just charged the R3 at the fastest rate from 0-100% (in 56 minutes) and I know sound is subjective, but I barely heard the fans.

Interesting, because when I see that size reduction, that's the thing I care about the most. But I'm also thinking about how it fits in an Ortlieb pannier bag, and how the 2 *just* barely fits if I align the bag just right, whereas this looks like it will leave an inch or two of slack. (I need a battery for camping to power a CPAP via a 12v plug, and a general purpose unit like this that can also charge a phone and has an XT60 for solar input is much more practical than a dedicated battery.

Hello SolarGuy, I noticed you had a 20v dewalt battery charging on the River 3, If I decide to buy one it would be to charge my Dewalt batteries on the jobsite as I’m working. If the river 3 was at 100% capacity how much will the percentage drop after charging a Power tool battery?
Yes, you would be able to charge on the jobsite. You could even connect a solar panel to it to keep it going when not near a power source (and it was sunny, of course). How many batteries it could charge depends on the Wh of each tool battery. But just for an example a 4ah Dewalt 20V battery could be fully charged roughly 3+ times if you started the River 3 at 100%.
Are the anker solix c300 AC is better? Price pretty much the same, slightly heavier by like 1lbs but i don't see anything that river 2 or 3 can compare. 170-180$, just considered 140w usb c outlet alone, find ones in powerbank would already be like 100$ ish. I would consider river 3 if they were to have like 1-2 140w usb c output ports.
It depends on what you consider better. I have the C300 as well and I like the 3 usb-C ports and that 2 of them are 140w rated and one is bi-directional (you can charge through it). It does weigh a little more but it has one more AC outlet an LED light and 43Wh more of storage.
@@solarguy yeah only downside is their weight, but I'll just buy it and put it in the living room for my fam, 2 140w usb c output ports alone would cost me at very least 160+ already, it's a total ripped off fr. The actual retail price of those 140w charger in China is under 25S per brick btw lol.
I just preordered the river 3 with 45w solar panel. I don’t know which panel they’re sending me. Have you tried charging the river 3 via usb c? The router use 12w and works with optical fyber This Ecoflow river 3 how many hours of energy can provide me for this items in the same time? Considering the condition of the laptop (it needs stay connected because the battery is damaged) Its possible get more than 6 hours with the modem and the laptop connected? What is the real time i can get?
Not knowing how much power your laptop uses makes it harder to guess, but assume it uses on average 50W per hour and your modem is 12W, so 62W total. The R3 is 245Wh ,divide that by 62W and it is about 3.5-4 hours

The river 3 can’t charge by usb-c. That feature got removed. I don’t have the 45w panel so maybe there is an included adapter that goes to xt60?
I wonder why they disabled the USB-C input charging, if that’s actually really the case.
