Saw Fishbone at Lollapalooza in 93, what a great show!!! They played the majority of this album and then Angelo did a great poem and walked off. Saw them 2x more What a great time.
Ironically, his positioning was actually better for the audience as we could actually see him playing. It always bugs me how the drummer is almost always all the way upstage-center and facing the audience so you can never see what they are doing back there.
Saw them at least a dozen times, we would drive 3 states to catch a show. Reality Of My Surroundings was their opus and the best tour. Kendall and Chris were essential. The Angelo years are still fun, but ROMS was a masterpiece of melody and power.
Fan for 30+ years...this is one of their best TV performances. Tight as a mosquito's ass and a really good mix. I would say when they played Sunless Saturday and Everyday Sunshine on Saturday Night Live is the tops.
thats how i found out about them, shit, a lot of old SNL episodes are one of the main catalysts for a lot of bands i started listening to like sparks, around 3 am our local affiliate would air the old episodes and i would fall asleep with my tv on as a kid, one night i woke up and saw sparks and the day after i woke up again and it was fishbone, it was the craziest shit id ever seen
I was fortunate to see them live two times, one of which was in a small venue in D.C. 20 years ago. Watching them all do their thing while crammed on a tiny stage was unbelievable! And Angelo played the theremin, to boot :) One of the best live performances I've ever seen.
Mos definitely. The band started falling apart they started getting members to to substitute and fill the void with Kendall and Chris had left and none of them couldn’t even stand up nearly to what Kendall and Chris talent wise.
@@adonisbrooks2794 While I respect your opinion. I can't help but think it's a bit much to say the band started falling apart. I have seen them eight times most recently on the 11th of this month and various lineups with Angelo and Norwood being the only constants and they have never disappointed and never not been one of the best live bands in the world. That said of course it's nice that most of the original members have come back, though it seems Fish might be gone again on drums.
@AitchJay I have also heard that Fish had some serious stage fright and preferred not to face the audience. Nevertheless, nothing takes away from the fact that Fish is one hell of a drummer and The Bone leapt from a great height.
About the weirdness with the sound near the end - there's something going on with the audio encoding, definitely a digital thing. It actually starts during the guitar solo, until it gets much worse during Angelo's solo / ending. It's not the band effing up.
when I first watched this video I was like, they sound good, by the end I was doing my ska dance.. this is one of the few acts I would actually pay to see.. Fishbone Lives!!!!
Koolazz Fred awesome live. seeing them for the fifth time since 1993 on Friday. The best thing about them though, well other than being amazing live is that ska is just part of their music. One of the most musically varied acts ever... ska reggae funk....... punk... soul... metal... these guys do them all and well.
Love the lyrics in this song as well. Always thought Kendall's songs had the most thought provoking lyrics. No wonder they desperately didn't want him to leave.
Fish always played with his drums pointed in the direction of the amps. But this was there first appearence without Kendall Jones, the oringnal guitarist, and Chris Dowd, the Keyboard player would leave soon after.
Fish cannot bear to face the rest of the band, especially Chris. Kendall was already gone by this point, and the original lineup was just a memory. Alas. Fishbone was, and still is, sacred to me, but the original six could have permanently changed the musical landscape for the ages. They had three or four more "Reality" caliber albums in them.
Yup the audio in the video seems faulty but it's the equipment on stage that messed up I remember seeing this on Conan and saying it was weird sounding back then.. so yeah Fishbone rules. Very good live band..
Cool, thanks for the info. I own the doc and it is great regardless of Fish and the other former members non-participation. I was amazed they got Kendall Jones especially all the drama that happened with his final years in the band. I like their latest EP Krazy Glue but I really miss Kendall and Chris Dowd songwriting skills.
I was at the Chicago premier for the documentary and Norwood, Angelo and Lev were there answering questions. Lev said they couldn't get Fish to do interviews and because of that, felt that telling the story without getting every original member was OK. Before that, it was one of their goals. Basically, if they couldn't get Fish to do interviews, they weren't going to go out of their way to get John Bigham. Not sure how hard they tried to contact him, though.
@Heyemeyohsts Yeah, because Snoop Dogg, Eminem, Dr. Dre, Sublime, Biggie Smalls, and Bob Marley didn't have huge commercial success either because they promoted drug use
Fantastic, intimate interview with Norwood Fisher and Exclusive Behind the scenes footage with Fishbone. Norwood talks with host, IX Mendoza about music, race and the state of the USA. Norwood gets deep and it's one of the most important conversations you'll listen to. Check it out only on The B-Side th-cam.com/video/PHsBwAvQ7WM/w-d-xo.html
Is that the reason why Fish is drumming away from the band, because of the tension? Also, what's the deal with John Bigham, he did not get mentioned at all in the documentary. I watched it twice but perhaps I missed something...
@jammidactyl No doubt confusing the odd meter at the end horn section with audio skipping....some people insist Zappa was on drugs too.....you can't tell them any different until they can see it for themselves.
These guys could play anything - reggae, ska, acoustic, metal, blues, soul. Love 'em.
Don't forget da FUNK! And sometimes they put all those styles in the same song!
Saw Fishbone at Lollapalooza in 93, what a great show!!!
They played the majority of this album and then Angelo did a great poem and walked off.
Saw them 2x more
What a great time.
One of the best bands ever...FISHBONE!!!!!!
My band is opening for them in two days. I’m pumped.
Absolutely!
this has got to be one of the best televised performances ever.
Fish was THE MAN on drums!!! I like how he didn't face the audience too
Ironically, his positioning was actually better for the audience as we could actually see him playing. It always bugs me how the drummer is almost always all the way upstage-center and facing the audience so you can never see what they are doing back there.
I think every drummer should play not facing the audience! Fish is the MAN!!
I miss bands like these.
Saw them at least a dozen times, we would drive 3 states to catch a show. Reality Of My Surroundings was their opus and the best tour. Kendall and Chris were essential. The Angelo years are still fun, but ROMS was a masterpiece of melody and power.
One of the best bands I ever seen in my life
I concur. The best energy of ANY live band I have ever seen
Me too!!
Agree 100%
THE best live band I've ever seen.
Love the way Chris's keyboard at the very end presages Dr. Madvibe's theremin obsession.
Fan for 30+ years...this is one of their best TV performances. Tight as a mosquito's ass and a really good mix.

and they played my favorite song! awesome!
AS one of their biggest fans, I lament "what could have been" had Kendall Jones and Chris Dowd remained in the band
Mos definitely. The band started falling apart they started getting members to to substitute and fill the void with Kendall and Chris had left and none of them couldn’t even stand up nearly to what Kendall and Chris talent wise.
Glad Chris is back. Wish special am would come back as well
The original lineup is the greatest. They should’ve been bigger

So thankful I've been blessed enough to open for FISHBONE 2x , even got to open for BLOWFLY too ( because Norwood is a badass, but I digress)
I never get sick of this video. Angelo is just pure talent and showmanship in the guise of a human.
Sad the sound glitch by the end
@AitchJay
I have also heard that Fish had some serious stage fright and preferred not to face the audience. Nevertheless, nothing takes away from the fact that Fish is one hell of a drummer and The Bone leapt from a great height.
one of my favorite songs. such a potent band.
Go see them in concert!
One of my favorite bands. I've been a fan since I was in HS in the 80's. Good Times!
Legends
The transition to into the matrix near the end was amazing
About the weirdness with the sound near the end - there's something going on with the audio encoding, definitely a digital thing. It actually starts during the guitar solo, until it gets much worse during Angelo's solo / ending.
It's not the band effing up.
If they really were playing those glitches they would truly be the tightest band ever to walk the earth!
Yeah I heard the sound glitch up to and I was like what is going on!?!? Ya but they ended tight at least?!?!?
Thanks! I couldn't figure out if I was going crazy or if there was a prog bridge in this song they only did live on special occasions.
Some of the best shows I've ever been to.
legends,,,
Loved how Angelo took an extra 8 before he hit the first line. :)
Never play after Fishbone! No better frontman than Angelo.
Wow, never thought about that! And im a drummer !
duhbing TESTIFY, THERE IS NO BETTER BAND THAN THE ONLY ANTIDOTE HUMANITY WILL EVER KNOW!!!!FISHBONE SOLDIER, FISHBONE SOLDIER!!!
when I first watched this video I was like,
they sound good, by the end I was
doing my ska dance..
this is one of the few acts I would

Fishbone Lives!!!!

God they are fucking awesome!
March of the Fishbone soldier for life, cheers all
Fish always played with his drums pointed in the direction of the amps.
But this was there first appearence without Kendall Jones, the oringnal guitarist, and Chris Dowd, the Keyboard player would leave soon after.
Thank you for posting this! I was 16 when it aired. Recorded it on my vcr and probably wore out the tape, unable to stop watching
The only other time I witnessed a drummer sit with his back to the rest of the band was with The Rockers-definitely some tension at that show!!!!!!!!
Fish cannot bear to face the rest of the band, especially Chris. Kendall was already gone by this point, and the original lineup was just a memory. Alas. Name of the song is:
Unyielding Conditioning
Holy shit!!! what a fucking classic track in front of the whole nation!!!
Such a good band with its best lineup, although it looks like Kendall was already gone.
Miss Kendall so much but gotta give some respect to John Bigham too.
Angelo = Cab Calloway + Jello Biafra
Oh Funk Yeah... The Bone !!!! These Guys are The Truth ☺☺😎👊💯💯 (What Happened to The File Coming into The Sax Solo.. Dammm.. Reupload Please)
Great memories ....love these guys ....missing Kendall ....
I saw this band close to 10 times...they were so bloody much better than everyone else. great vid, killer jam at the end...thanks for posting
Yup the audio in the video seems faulty but it's the equipment on stage that messed up I remember seeing this on Conan and saying it was weird sounding back then.. so yeah Fishbone rules. Very good live band..
Extremely tight!!!
Los putos amos y nada mas. Larga vida a Fishbone
the mighty Fishbone
Cool, thanks for the info. I own the doc and it is great regardless of Fish and the other former members non-participation. Dirty Walt on that mini trumpet! ✊🏼
This band should have taken over the world.
Kendall had already left. So sad.... Best band ever. Love me some F- Bone!!
Yes! Angelo dishin it out @ 3:54

i like how the drummer is in his own little world XD Awesome sounds tho!
I Think I Like they're ska better than their other styles of music
baddest live band ever
No, they bad in the good way
If they came out now, it’d be the biggest thing.
Sweet!
Angelo is the best frontman of all time.
@MrMarkpark CLASSIC....+22 for the DLR quote.
Awwww! Norwood's antenna is just a baby.
that trumpet player is the man
@goldcoastmm
john bigam is on guitar and fish fisher is the drummer.
you got it. notice the w on the headstock
Peep the ending. They were on hallucinogenics i think. So dope.
This is a strange but cool rendition. Dig how the bass is way up front in the mix.
Chances Angelo's get up would make it to TV today?
Shawn Johnson More likely
It's The Beginning Of Norwood's "Pencil Point" Hair Do
Good God!!!! The rocked the fuck out of the end!!!! Daaaaaaaaaayum.
Dope. When this clip went backwards i heard the most crazy fusion ever.!
Fortunately i had just splift up, NOT SECONDS BEFORE!!!
Something went wrong there towards the end? I was all into it too!
✊

''hey man, that suit is you''
Norwood....my Man.
Fishbone Soldiers
I have several live performances from fishbone as well. Check them out.
Man, the guys were right on with this performance that night. What date?
Had to have been like 94, Kendall has already left...
It's Conan, so no
@@jesus4602 Had to have been 93 or 94. Chris is there and Kendall is gone (like the other person said)
Myself is missing FISH on Drums......Who is playing here but no more w/ Fishbone.
yup warwick stared at headstock long enough and saw W
Why is Fish facing away from the band?
Is that the reason why Fish is drumming away from the band, because of the tension? Also, what's the deal with John Bigham, he did not get mentioned at all in the documentary. I watched it twice but perhaps I missed something...
How does a live performance skip profusely?????
Why does it keep skipping towards the end???
At first I thought the weed leaf was angelos hair
@jammidactyl No doubt confusing the odd meter at the end horn section with audio skipping....some people insist Zappa was on drugs too.....you can't tell them any different until they can see it for themselves.
Funk mixxed with punk. Rock turned up by jazz hip-hop thrown in to make sound fluid all together fishbone could only pull it off
Uh, the mix gets completely flubbed towards the end. Not synced at all, nobody else noticed that?
what kind of bass is being used?
Who was the drummer and the guitar player on this date?
Is Norwood Fish Fischer playing a fretless?
Innovators!
How much for the hat, Angelo?
Now THATS a hat.
was Conan in high school when he started?
I wonder why they had the drummer facing the wall...
punk rock move. it’s a fuck you to the audience.
This video is corrupted or something...
something wrong in the end !!! no ? about the rythmic !!
Their timing is off but they all end together. Wonder if it was intentional?
where the fuck do you get such a loincloth?
