Musicians appreciated and respected them (seemed to me). Although audiences enjoyed them, the band played "over their heads" a bit. The music could be very complex. Audiences never fully appreciated them. Definitely innovative, before their time, visionaries.
They got me into the show in Vegas when i was 16 cause the bouncer wouldnt let me in and i found them in the parking lot talking to each other by a car, i told them the bouncer wouldnt let me in cause i was too young, they said hold up, finished talking, then escorted me with them through the back entrance, stage entrance? to watch the show. Fishbone you rock!
Anybody here see them back then and still a fan? I swear they are the best cardio workout in the world ! Best of the west tour with the Chili peppers years ago ...i have some amazing old photos ...they weren't a band ...they were a time in my history ! FISHBONE IS RED HOT !
Fucking wow!!! That's a collection of talent right there. Adrian Belew is awesome! If you're unfamiliar with him, look up "The Momur" here on youtube. You're welcome 😁
Just saw them Thursday with their old lineup excluding special k (Angelo, fish, Norwood, Chris Dowd, John Bingham, and Dirty Walt). Still rocking it tons of energy.
First saw these guys around '84 or '85 in the backroom of a video arcade that served as a weekend club. They were the headliners and I'd never heard of them, I had gone to see one of the opening bands in which a friend from school played bass. Glad I stayed, never danced so hard in my life. We just called it a pit back then, not sure when they added the word mosh.
Seen them and MURPHY'S LAW open up for the BEASTIE BOYS in 1986. never heard of 'em been a fan ever since. GREAT time cause it was an early exposure to my love of underground music. later i seen that my favorite bands were hangin out .beastie, chili's rollins jane's beatles prince haha! u get the picture. SO strangers, I knew i was on too something O.K!!!!!!! LOVE GETS LOVE
+G Raw Same sound as 30 years ago, saw them a couple weeks ago - Angelo Moore still there and John Norwood on bass. They stood on different parts of the stage and didn't interact but both took time to chat with fans before and after the show. GREAT show
Yeah, there's still 3 original members left. Angelo Moore, Norwood, and Dirty Walt. The guitarist is Rocky George who used to be in Suicidal Tendencies. The drummer has been with them since 2000. I saw them a couple of years ago and they were on fire! Can't wait until the next time!
Stupidly talented musicians and performers. Saw them in 1988. This gives a sense of what they were like approaching their peak. But the public just wasn't buying what they were selling. Tragic.
Andrew James Now look across the globe. How many bands WERE influenced by The Bone... huge f'n percentage... to Mr Bungle etc etc... down the line. Be nothing like it is now. A bit like nothing would have been shit without David Bowie in many genres. Or, something like that.
They also disintegrated at their peak. Chris Dowd disappeared with the JWs or a cult or something and fish and Norwood were jailed for kidnapping for trying to rescue him. This was in like 92/93
Racism, fear and the dumb ignorance of their labels played a part as well. I've always thought that Fishbone were unquestionably well-respected as musicians by other musicians, but in their time, they were also too "black and angry" for success. Musically, Fishbone should have been HUGE, but their label didn't know how to market them and to an extent, didn't want to bet on them. To a major label they were a bad financial risk despite their talent. I think their label thought America wasn't ready for a band of handsome and talented young back men who played unclassifiable music and railed against the system for its treatment of black people in the US. Also and almost to their detriment, their music was constantly evolving an growing in different directions for the better. But instead of being recognized (for lack of a better definition) as a Black Prog Rock/Funk Band, they were viewed as a unclassifiable RE "unmarketable" and on top if it all, a bagful of trouble for also being intensely political for criticizing the American government and the police for its treatment of young black men. At the time, the major labels already had their hands full with NWA and Public Enemy as political hard-chargers, so the last thing Columbia/Sony wanted to do was to put more money behind a band of young, angry black men whose sound they couldn't pin down. It sucks, but getting behind the Red Hot Chili Peppers was a lot easier. Fishbone were unfortunately a bleeding-edge band who were WAY ahead of their time.
Terry did a Nancy Reagan impersonation that I quote all the time (talking to Ronald Reagan, wobbling, holding a glass of booze "...the only reason I drink is to make you bearable!").
With the proper push FB could have easily been bigger than Red Hot Chili Peppers in my expert opinion. Mother's Milk and Blood Sugar Sex Magic were epic, though.
Pretty close (I don't know about the Seth Meyers/gay/closet), but this host is Terry Sweeney, a regular cast member of Saturday Night Live (SNL) during that program's 1985-86 season and also a sketch writer for SNL prior to being hired as a member of the cast. His most notable recurring character was a portrayal of then-First Lady Nancy Reagan...
So I recognized this Terry Sweeney guy from a Seinfeld episode and just found out he was on SNL (85-86). I tried to find some info on this talk show, but I can't find anything. Does anyone know anything about it? Was he guest-hosting a show, or did he have his own show, and for how long? Also, Fishbone kills here.
In the late 80s, I saw Fishbone play at Woody's on South Beach (Miami). Amazing show! Angelo never missed a beat while stage diving with the mic. Got passed around and placed back on stage, singing the whole time. First time I'd ever seen that in person. Also saw Thomas Dolby and Kid Creole & the Coconuts at Club Nu (two different shows. Kid Creole was a New Year's Eve show). And saw Faith No More open for the Red Hot Chili Peppers at The Washington Theater (also South Miami Beach). Fucking damn good times. There's no talent like all of that in any current lineup today.
Chris liberti it was Kendall it's because Kendall's father joined a extreme Christian group and Kendall went and they thought he was brainwashed by his dad.but yes Norwood and someone went and tried to force him to leave.
Randall S I really don't CARE if it's a guy that looks like a girl or vice versa, or if he became she or vice versa, I just wanted to know which it was that I was looking at.
Randall S Oh! Okay, thanks! Is he the one that did those "Pat" movies? I gave up on SNL when they started doing stupid skits that never had an ending. The public loved the characters, so they just made sure each one had a bit in each episode, no matter how stupid the skit for that character was. That was just before John Belushi died. The Coneheads was about the only one that was still any good, but, even with that, they'd get to a certain point and the skit would just stop dead and you're sitting there waiting for a concluding joke, and there WASN'T ONE!! Next thing you know, the audience is applauding wildly and the camera pulls back to show the whole set and they go to a commercial!! It's like being told a long joke and then never getting the punchline!
No, Julia Sweeney was the "Pat" character ( no relation). I saw very little of the original cast. Terry was apart of the Jon Lovitz, Dennis Miller, Dana Carvey era. I just remember him as this was also when I started giving up on SNL (aside from the occasional live musical acts).
why aren't fishbone in the rock n roll hall fame?!
Musicians appreciated and respected them (seemed to me). Although audiences enjoyed them, the band played "over their heads" a bit. The music could be very complex. Audiences never fully appreciated them. Definitely innovative, before their time, visionaries.
Blackgeek 510
Because they’re to good for it.
Because the R&R HOF is lame. Fishbone is not!
Too dangerous for the masses... they could become Fishbone soldiers !
They were also militantly anti-MTV.
Fishbone are living legends
No, The Beatles are!
Greatest live band ever
The most under appreciated band in history!
Ska music never caught on in a huge way.
Anybody here see them back then and still a fan? I swear they are the best cardio workout in the world ! Best of the west tour with the Chili peppers years ago ...i have some amazing old photos ...they weren't a band ...they were a time in my history ! FISHBONE IS RED HOT !
Nothing, really, could ever be better than Fishbone live and up close
I couldn't even imagine having a white date to the prom in the early '80s, in the valley. Angelo was unapologetically himself, and I love it.
Angelo's sporadic Sax solos are just BRILLIANT!
I just saw Angelo with Todd Rundgren and Adrian Belew in a tribute to David Bowie. He is still very much Angelo! #hotdamn
Fucking wow!!! That's a collection of talent right there. Adrian Belew is awesome! If you're unfamiliar with him, look up "The Momur" here on youtube. You're welcome 😁
Lol, I would have paid just to see Todd's reaction sharing the stage with him.
probably the most self
real-ized bands of all time .
Just saw them Thursday with their old lineup excluding special k (Angelo, fish, Norwood, Chris Dowd, John Bingham, and Dirty Walt). Still rocking it tons of energy.
Where ? Kendall Jones ?
This is awesome - it's like a Chuck Berry-Punk fusion. I can defiinately see the ska influence with all the brass instruments. What a great band!
Have you never seen this band ever in life?
I have around 5 times over the years and they were great every time!!
First saw these guys around '84 or '85 in the backroom of a video arcade that served as a weekend club. They were the headliners and I'd never heard of them, I had gone to see one of the opening bands in which a friend from school played bass. Glad I stayed, never danced so hard in my life. Saw them in 1991 in Toronto - with Primus as opening act. Say no more
Saw them in Washington DC the same year when Primus opened up for them. Lethal show.
Saw them a few nights ago opening for The Bosstones, they're just as tight now, as they were back then.
i was there too! show was epic. never heard these guys til that show, now im hooked!
If not for Clueless, Bosstones would be opening for Fishbone. I like the Bosstones, but they are not nearly on the level of Fishbone musically
Rollo Tomassi legit ! That they would open for anyone is “Laughable Man” ! Btw L.A. confidential reference! Nice work
Oh jeeze, that’s the wrong order for that line-up. Were Fishbone at least “special guests”?
Seen them and MURPHY'S LAW open up for the BEASTIE BOYS in 1986. never heard of 'em been a fan ever since. Chloelivi Think the only orig guys r Angelo, the trumpet,& the bass player but all the guys were on the money.

+G Raw keep an eye out for a new Angelo album... may 13th.. ropeadope records....
The drummer was in the band "Super 8" back in the day who had a great debut cd. You ought to check it out, they were kind of a lost black rock band.
This was a treat to find. Back in the day I aint had no tv. Them was live muthafukas fo me
The guitar player, I think its Kendal here, still has a price tag on his guitar I think.
Lol, I guess times were tough and he was planning to return it to the store after the gig?

Michael Wong Ska was already known. Stfu
Fishbone kicks ass, as usual; but I can't escape the feeling that Terry Sweeney is a character that Jane Lynch might have created.
No, he's very real and used to be part of the cast at SNL in the early-to-mid '80's.
Terry did a Nancy Reagan impersonation that I quote all the time (talking to Ronald Reagan, wobbling, holding a glass of booze "...the only reason I drink is to make you bearable!").
I just saw Angelo Moore and the Brand New Step in Houston a couple months ago. Insane!
Fishbone is a force of nature, one of the best rock bands ever to exist.
I dig how they use the "Brutus" theam from Popeye, cool.
I bet they were awesome too see in person.
They are!
futuristic retro power soulsound i love them they love me i love everyone!
First time I saw these I'd have sworn there were at least 9 guys in the band. So much energy!
X2!
I think i went to see Tool open for them at the Hollywood Palladium once upon a time?
Best band I ever did see.
It begs the question, they were so good! ❤🙏🎸😎🎺😎🥁😎🎤💕😉👍
Reelbigfish didn't sell out. They cashed in on fishbone.
Yessir !!!! The Fellas..... F**kin Absolute Awesomeness ☺☺😎👊💯💯

Live Long and Prosper guys, I'm a fan!
`great band in the90s
Light years ahead
They should be in the RNR Hall of Fame.
Period!
With the proper push FB could have easily been bigger than Red Hot Chili Peppers in my expert opinion. Mother's Milk and Blood Sugar Sex Magic were epic, though.
This band is nuts!
These are guys are So much fun.
Holy shit, this is awesome! Just saw a 2 Chainz interview with him and wanted to know what he did and wow this is awesome!
Thanks for this!
Legendary!!!
I saw them at The Mason Jar in Phoenix during the early eighties.
Great show!
I saw that Jar show too.
UGLY FISHBONE TREMENDA BANDA AUN LOS RECUERDO EL EL 2014 EN CHILE . QUEDAMOS CON LAS GANAS DE VER MAS DE ESTA BANDA LEGENDARIA
YEEEEESSSSSSSSSSS!!!!!!!!!!!!
Ah,back in the day.... :D
Who the hell is Terry Sweeney? I would have expected her to be on G.L.O.W.
He was on the '86\'87 season of SNL.
ok lets do it a poll for FISHBONE who,s in LETS GET THEM IN THE HALL OF FAME COME ON BROTHERS WHO,S WITH ME
Wow !! Dude didn't last log in the t.v. biz
"U G L Y you ain't got no alibi" is this where this lyric/phrase originated?!
Naw...it's playground taunt/chant that's circulated in the black community forever lol. There's actually other verses to it.
@@moded_corroded8132 I grew up hearing it in a white rural town, too.
Kings!
saw them yesterday they ripped
Yeah !!!!!
He's like a 90s Seth Meyers.
Most likely it is Meyers, before he went back into the closet ;9
Pretty close (I don't know about the Seth Meyers/gay/closet), but this host is Terry Sweeney, a regular cast member of Saturday Night Live (SNL) during that program's 1985-86 season and also a sketch writer for SNL prior to being hired as a member of the cast.

The #45 theme song!
So I recognized this Terry Sweeney guy from a Seinfeld episode and just found out he was on SNL (85-86). I tried to find some info on this talk show, but I can't find anything. What network was this on? I'm assuming Fox? Impressed there was an openly gay talk show host in 1987. Or was he guest hosting for Joan Rivers?
FOX, yes.
who's the white guy?
what/ who introduced them..????
Terry Sweeney
Awesome! Too bad you didn't get to meet Joan Rivers though. It'd be nice to be able to start a rumor that she had a torrid affair with Dirty Walt.
Is that the same Terry Sweeney from Saturday Night Live?
Yes.
Always Loved fishbone....but good lord what a lousy show and host. Loved it when they played the fat Albert theme live.
Fish and K Gill looking dope as fack
Do you mean K Jones? K Gill was a shooting guard with the Seattle Sonics.
@@CalebTrask Ya my mix-up. It's the "Gill" in relation to the "Fish" messing with me.

Maybe 2 people in the audience understand what they are seeing. That's OK i didn't quiite either, my first go around. There were a whole lot more.
Who and what is Terry Sweeney? Is he a woman or is she a guy?
I think a little of both now ::-)
Randall S I really don't CARE if it's a guy that looks like a girl or vice versa, or if he became she or vice versa, I just wanted to know which it was that I was looking at.
