    One of the coolest trails and canyons I’ve ever been to. Great video

      You don't even need to fish there and its still one of the coolest rivers.

    I was dying when you made "fancy ramen" that's what my wife and I and even me and brothers growing up here in east Idaho called it. All the random fixings in the fridge with random Asian sauces. Perfection! Great video

    I remember the catwalks from when I was a kid! Moving back somewhat close to that area (if 8 hours is close 😂) and I plan on trying for the Gila trout this winter

      8 hours isn't too far considering how there isn't a whole lot in this area! Good luck!

    Trout is probably the only reason why I will ever visit NM. It’s a top destination for me.

      Would highly recommend it. Definitely go in the Springtime I bet its way too hot there now. Hard to really capture how beautiful that little canyon is!

    I caught my first Gila there in April 21. Had the whole canyon to myself for about 2 hours in the morning. My wife who wasn’t overly impressed with a lot of New Mexico said this is where they get that enchantment stuff. Enjoying the series. I did Rio’s on that trip as well, can’t wait to see where you guys go for that.

    • @tenkararodco
      @tenkararodco  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for sharing. Your wife has a really good point. If you just drive through New Mexico on highways you probably aren't going to be enchanted. But getting out into these semi remote canyons and in the mountains is where the magic is. Our Rio Grande Cutty video just came out today and it was a tough one!

      Most of the time we were fishing stimulators as our dry, then we sometimes would drop a small nymph below it. I got a few fish on the nymph when they didn’t want the dry fly but most of the time they just munched the “Stimi”!!!

    Yes, Gilda Trout is still endangered species, but it is open for catch and release now.

    • @tenkararodco
      @tenkararodco  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ya we always do catch and release when it comes to native trout I guess we should mention that more in case people think we are harming the trout in any way!

    • @ea.4997
      @ea.4997 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Gila trout is no longer on the endangered species list. It is on the threatened list. Catch and keep limit at the catwalk is 2 Gila trout and the fish they were catching are to small to keep. The limit for Gila trout at Lake Roberts and the Gila forks is 5 per day.

    • @ctenterprises9440
      @ctenterprises9440 ปีที่แล้ว

      They are not anymore, and the area they are fishing is stocked or they don't survive on their own due to consistent flooding.

    • @ctenterprises9440
      @ctenterprises9440 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@ea.4997 there is no size limit on gilas

  • @chicagoair

    What month was this trip?

    • @tenkararodco
      @tenkararodco  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      This was in early May. I assume that place gets way too hot in the Summer months to be fished.

    • @ctenterprises9440
      @ctenterprises9440 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@tenkararodco it doesn't actually. Plus, they stock it anyway. Next time your around the area, there are superior streams to fish for natives, or at least hike upstream another mile or two.

    • @GrandeAdventure
      @GrandeAdventure ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah way better places to fish this species.

  • @ea.4997
    @ea.4997 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    In New Mexico you can fish for Gila trout at Lake Roberts and the West fork of the Gila River and the fish are way bigger. 18 - 20 inch Gila trout have been caught in those locations and the keep limit is 5 fish per person.

    • @tenkararodco
      @tenkararodco  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Nice! Sometimes its a trade off between big fish and cool scenery and we chose scenery this time.

    • @ea.4997
      @ea.4997 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@tenkararodco The Gila Forks is a very nice scenery you're right next door to the Gila Cliff Dwellings National Monument. When you're done fishing for the day you can go and visit the cliff dwellings......

      Those are GMO stockers. True gilas only get 8-12 on average, and very rare for the measurements he listed.
