What a fish out of that creek! My son and I are doing the WNTC, as well as a bunch of the state challenges. We started last summer with a 2 week trip through Nevada, Utah, Wyoming, Idaho, & Montana. Our Idaho Yellowstone cutties came from a creek that I'm pretty sure you guys bicycled into in a video! We both finished the UT slam and 3/4 of the WY slam, plus the first tier of the WNTC. The NV native trout challenge is really tough, but we're getting there. This summer's trip is going to be WY, CO, NM, and maybe AZ, plus NV on the way home. My son has been asking for a Tenkara rod for a while now, and our first one is scheduled to arrive tomorrow! I'm excited to use it on some of the small creeks we'll be fishing during the trip. I'd be happy to point you toward some spots for some of the state-level challenges, if you decide to try them. You're pretty far ahead of us on the WNTC, though 🙂 Keep the awesome videos coming!
That is amazing thanks for sharing! How old is your son? I have a 10 year old and we went out today and caught some westslope cutthroat and I was thinking about how fun it would be to do that challenge with him. I bet you are right on that creek, honestly one of our favorites. We haven't officially done any of the state slams yet that will be next. The NV one actually does look really hard. NV has some unreal fishing spots though and a lot of the spots in the mountains don't really get fished that much. There are also some spots with very big fish which is fun too. Ill let you know once we start the state challenges. I almost have the Utah one but I got skunked looking for Yellowstone Cutties!
@@tenkararodco My son and I were just out on Saturday catching some westslope cutthroat! He's 11. The WNTC has been a really great experience for us. I got a rooftop tent and we're just working our way around the west, two weeks at a time. The Yellowstone cutthroat in UT are tough. They were actually the very first fish we started with, and it was a rude awakening. We ran into a couple driving along the creek who were among the very first people to complete the WNTC, and they said it was tougher fishing than anything they had to do for the WNTC. Some locals put me on to another spot, though, so we got it done. My fish was maybe the smallest trout I've ever caught. If your son is interested in trying the WNTC, or any of the state challenges, do it! I cannot recommend it highly enough.
Welcome back. Utah welcomes you. I really enjoy this series and want to do the western native slam on Tenkara too. I am working on my 2nd cutthroat slam for Utah too. That Yari looks fun.
Thanks! So much good water in Utah. We really need to finish the cutthroat slam one of these days. You should definitely do the western native challenge so many cool places it takes you.
Awesome trip and nice brown at the end there--I love fishing that creek, it holds some beasts! Just FYI, if you double-check the WNT Challenge map for Utah, that stream actually falls within the range of Colorado River Cutthroat, you have to go further west for the Bonnies...but the fish you caught are gorgeous all the same!
Thanks for the heads up! We weren't 100% sure to be honest and we talked to a few people who told us those were bonnies so we believed them. Hard to distinguish between the two but actually this might work out better for us because we needed to get those Colorado River Cutties anyway!
Nicely done! Caddis is always the answer. (I'm sure you did your homework and all, but that sure looked more like Colorado River cutt country, especially with the bighorn sheep and the size of that river. Not where you'd expect Bonnies in UT. But they did look like Bonnies vs. Colorado cutts I guess.)
Thanks for the feedback! We would be stoked if those were in fact Colorado Cutthroat because we need to catch some of those, but we talked to some Utah Wildlife people and they said they were Bonneville in this particular stream. Even though it looks like Colorado Cutthroat country and based on the map Bonneville shouldn't be out this far East. So not sure who to believe! They looked like Bonneville Cutthroat so that is what we are going off of.
Absolutely but only if its non native. So if we ever do keep trout its going to be rainbows or browns most likely. Guess we should have added some to our ramen!
Beautiful fish in a beautiful place! Just so y’all are aware, in order for it to count toward the WNTI Challenge, the fish need to be caught within their historic range/watershed. Unfortunately, that area isn’t where BCT are native to, and likely WNTI will reject that catch for the challenge. Tight lines!
@@tenkararodco I’m kind of crazy when it comes to researching, and fishing in general. I’ve found some killer spots living in northern utah for Bonnevilles. Let me know if your interested with a way to DM you all specifically.
Thanks Steve! Yes it was a super awesome trip for sure. Tuna found an old swimsuit down by the river and decided to put it on haha it was more funny than disturbing at the time!
Great question. My recommendation would be the Teton Zoom. It compacts down to 10.5 ft. so you can fish tighter spots but then it zooms to 12 ft. if you wanted to hit lakes and bigger rivers.
If you were to break your rod it would only be in one section and each section is removable. Most rods have around 8 sections. So you would just remove the broken section and we would send you a replacement. Spare sections can also be purchased separately if you would like to have some on hand.
Is it only covered if you brake it while fishing? Also. What rod would be the best for tight small streams that could also use in bigger streams and lakes?
Yes!!! Glad to see you guys are back out there!!
Ya we just took a little break from making these WNTI videos but we are back now. Going out tomorrow looking for Bull Trout!
😮wow!!! That was amazing!! Love watching! Im going yo own a tenkara rod one day!!!!
Love your crossbreed lines. Excellent customer service as well. Keep ‘em coming Tuna and Drew
Thanks for the kind words!
I love this series! I'm stoked to see you back at the challenge!!
After getting skunked on a couple we had to take a little break but we are back at it!
Great trip, thanks for sharing.
Glad you enjoyed it!
What a tank!
Was a surprise thats for sure.

🤣👏 Well done! I think Tuna used that swimsuit as an attractor for that big brown! 🤣 Keep on coming with the great videos!
hahaha that is a great technique!

Thanks for checking it out!
Good stuff! When you come back to NM, I can help you find some Rio Grande Cutties.
Definitely going to take you up on that when the time comes!

Do you folks ever take home and cook em up?
What length of line were you using?

Wow.. Indomie instant noodles... Greeting from Indonesia, the country where the noodles come from.. 😅
Amazing! Love Indonesian food, maybe next trip we will do a little trailside Nasi Goreng.

Yeah we thought that might be the case but we were going to fish here regardless because it’s a great spring spot

I could not believe the size of that outfit that Tuna squeezed into! 😂
Haha I think thats a lesson for all of us to not leave clothing on the side of the river or it might end up on Tuna!
Should i get that Only Fans account started? I bet you be my first sub hehe!
What an awesome trip, especially with that monster brown! Disturbing scene with Tuna in that swimsuit or lingerie, whatever that was!
Thanks Steve! Yes it was a super awesome trip for sure. Tuna found an old swimsuit down by the river and decided to put it on haha it was more funny than disturbing at the time!
Damn Tuna! What a fish ... how close were you to the big river when you caught that one? Love this series, glad you guys are back at it!
That fish was caught way up towards the top so not even close to the big river. Crazy!
What rod would be the best for tight small streams that could also use in bigger streams and lakes?

How does the warranty work or the rods? Also can you order replacement parts if need be?
