Hey bro, I know the vids a bit old but I need a lil help here from someone that obviously knows what they’re doing. I’ve got a ‘03 GTI with a 2.8L 24V VR6 with a little over 114k miles. Seen a lot of stuff about being able to run in the 500’s for horsepower on a completely stock motor with just a head spacer safely. But I’ve seen the head spacer is mainly for turbo builds. I don’t have the spare cash to add a turbo but would like some extra power. Is it safe for me to get a head spacer installed and then tune it for daily driving? As in pump gas 93. Or would it be best to just tune it with no head spacer for daily driving? And what horsepower figure should I aim for on a tune that’s completely safe on a full stock motor and transmission? I know you’re no professional but opinions from someone who’s done a lot with their car are better than scouring through old builds with old info from people who say this or that without any real proof.
The head spacer is to lower compression for boost so if you're not turbo charging it it's best to stay stock compression. You will lose power NA with a head spacer even if you tune for it. For NA and extra power, you're not going to gain a whole lot but you can do cams and a tune. It'll add about 25hp with both mods. Check out CO motorsports where they showed off a full 3.2 NA Audi TT build going from a unitronic to a united motorsports tune.
