- Not your regular MK4 20th Anniversary.... this one has a 24V VR Turbo under the hood. We hammer out a couple issues and see if we can squeeze a bit more power on our crappy 91oct fuel. This one is running United Motorsport 630cc file. Enjoy the Wookie noises.

Who doesn't love a VR?!?!? As a former owner of multiple built VR's, some N.A., some F.I. they just NEVER get old. Great numbers on a stock internals motor. Sounds nice and rowdy just like a VR should. I had to connect my bluetooth speaker to hear the wookie in all its goodness. It's cool that the owner decided to put the 24v back in. So much cooler than an average 20th with a 1.8t. Glad he dumped the bags for some coilovers. The track> hardparking. Bunch of people have used the stock manifolds for a turbo, and it does work quite well. Throw a headspacer in there and you are good to go with limited work, and this build just proves that. This was a welcome video, and I throughly enjoyed it! Thank you. 👍👍

I had a 03 Golf VR6 with stg 1 plus Unitronic tune, AWETuning catback. Best car I ever had. So much fun. The vr6 with awe catback was one of the best sounding engines, ever

@@jerryfullen5043 depends on existing mods, engine, and what the vehicle is being used for, and what future goals. There's a lot of things to consider so it's not such a cut and dry answer.

My favorite engine of all time... im a 12v kinda guy but i would die to have a mk4 r32 with a 24v turbo with a bulit motor, and some meaty tires, with a sequential of course, thats a potent combo... give it a 100 shot of Nos 💥 lol
It is astonishing how the mighty have fallen. This engine was Europe's equivalent to the LS. It was abundant, it was cheap and it was capable (there are VR6 builds in excess of 2000 horsepower!).
Everytime you guys run a VR6 I can't believe I have never owned one lol. One of these days. Then its coming to you guys for dyno runs!

Better get one before they get too old. They're generally durable, but still a dying breed more and more.
Best bet is the Mk3 or Mk4 or go straight for an R32. I had a Mk4 GLI VR6 and now in a Mk5 R32, I love the sound and the power delivery.

Nice vid. My mk4 R32 is runnin a Garrett GT3582R .70 A/R, 8.5 head spacer, 3" EIP exhaust, 550cc injectors, C2 550 tune (UM predecessor) , stock internals, stock intake. Made 371whp and 407wtq @17psi on 92 octane. Getting ready to switch to either 630 or 870 injectors and a UM tune and then its back on the dyno.
The MAF taps out before the injectors. We've made ~490whp on race fuel with 550cc's on an R32.

Questions: What was up with the MAF location - Was the intake pipe too straight? Can you please make me an adapter for my stock 24v BDF manifolds too??!!? The cockeyed turbo looks fine to me - as long as the oil drains fine

My 24v setup used to be almost exactly the same. And it did the same thing (dying at revs and boost)
It only did it when I swapped to a ball bearing turbo though, when I had a journal it did not have that problem.
Interested to Know that the MAF location was to blame. I went standalone so I escaped that issue.

I'm selling my 2003 GTI VR6 with the 24v motor, leather, 6-speed manual. 105K miles, original owner, babied and garaged. Had it as my daily driver for almost 19 years now. Just need a larger family sedan, otherwise i'd keep it.

Man you guys literally saved me so much trouble from this video ! I have a 2002 silver gti 2.8l 24v vr6 turbo that I baught, and had the exact same problem !!! Every time I did a pull it stalls and at stops as well. Thank God for you guys ! It was annoying and also worried of what the problem was. The maf is also in a location just like that. The manifold is also stock on mine. I'm wondering if you did the job on my car. It was done years ago also would like to know if you did it ! Thanks for all the info 👍 keep it up I love your vids man !
Glad it helped. As for if we did it, I'd need a lot more details cause we've built a lot of big turbo cars over the years.

I know the 2.0slow get alot of hate. but I would be cool to see you do a 2.0 slow with a turbo kit and tune.
It's more expensive to make power on a 2l then just swapping in a 1.8t.
They only make around 150bhp. Bang for buck sucks on the 2slow.
Better to drop in a stock 1.8t and filter/exhaust/remap. Cheaper and more power.

Dumb question but can the head spacer but cut from a 12valve vr6 to fit a 10 valve vr5? The vr5 community cuts everything from the vr6 to fit so was wondering if this is one of those cases

As it should, it's essentially the same engine with a bit less displacement.

Hi, the r32 and 2.8 24v headspacers, what's the difference, I can only find R32 headspacer in Oz, running a 2003 2.8 24v 4motion
They are different. We have r32, 24v and 12v spacers in stock ready to go.

Hi guys I'm new to your channel. Thanks for the good content. I am busy building a turbo engine for my 2.8 Golf mk4 4mo. I have the same engine and I have a 2mm spacer plate with the top and bottom parts of the OEM gasket. What compression would that eventually turn out to be?
A lot of things dictate compression, but I'd say you have a 8.5:1 spacer.

So i have a mk4 jetta with a gt2871r running a N75 valve with really bad boost spikes, (changed the valve a bunch of times) would running a MBC with it help?

Do 24-valves come with a forged crank shaft from the factory? How else can you go for so much power with stock internals?
People always talk about cranks. Ive made 700whp on a 2l 8v cast crank. Lol
@@COMotorsports is the head spacer motor supposed to reduce compression ratio? It must use two gaskets. I am interested in one for a 2.5 Rabbit
@@robertpaupard1265 one gasket. Split in half, the center is replaced with a thicker portion which drops compression.

If you're talking about in a VR, especially a 24v. No problem making that power on stock head.

So why exactly does turning the MAF up like that cause it not to be an issue? is it a turbulence issue? Genuinely curious, I don't understand it.
Exactly that. Air's getting metered twice.
I’m guessing it’s not the way it sits that was temporary you have to get the maf as far from the turbo as possible I had same issues on mine

Would love to know more about the stalling issue via MAF position. My VR6-T 4Motion almost stalls after heavy pulls. I have a 4" MAF housing... got any input on 'what' angle or position is ideal for the MAF? Thanks
It's got to do with MAF placement, too close to bends, too close to filter, too close to DV recirc, too close to turbo, major reduction in piping size before/after filter. It can be lots of things. Buy a couple different couplers and test whatever's suspect.
