My experience with being prepared for storms came back in 1982 I had a 3 month old baby and we had a snow and ice storm that didn’t want to stop ended up with 2.5” of ice and 27” of snow. We lived in the country our closest neighbor was about a mile away, well electric was first thing that went and babies like warm milk. The only thing I came up with was the car, I had to dig part of it out, started it and put my filled baby bottles on the engine till the milk was pretty warm part of it went into a thermos to keep warm, this went on for 3days till county got the roads graded and luckily he got my drive so we could get out. You just have to think outside the box sometimes. I definitely put together a bag for such situations and haven’t been stranded since!
I’m glad you’re stocked up and got all you need . Good ideas!!! We put a big bag of ice in a trash bag and put it in our refrigerator when our electricity was off and it definitely helped. Hope it all works out good for you. Take good care of you!!👏👏👏🥩🧈🥚💪🥓✝️🙏❤️❤️❤️
I have lived in Florida since I was 10 years old, dad was tapped for AF1 ground crew transferred from Randolph AFB in Texas to Homestead AFB. I lost my home in Andrew the only reason I went to my parents that night was my kitty, she tried to tell me for three days. I wanted to move had been having that conversation with Creator, it was an easy move. Everything I took special care for was untouched my 4/2 became a 3/1. We are prepared and ready again. ❤
SC here & like you we are always ready for a Hurricane. I've been a week without power & never missed a beat. My freezer is full & I think we have the same things in our frig....lol Be safe & keep us posted.
Stay safe Mitch! I lived in Daytona for over a decade so I’m very familiar with hurricanes. 2004 was crazy. My brother and his fam live near Tampa so I’m worried.
I turned 80 this year. My gran was born in the 1880s so she was, in fact, a Victorian. She made beef tea and potted meat and I suspect her own Mum taught her how to make them. Her son, my Dad, made them, too, as do I. My gran lived well into her 90s, so did my Dad, and - well - I'm on my way! I credit the beef tea as one of the items that leads to longevity. 😄 Just saw a good video on making it on TH-cam from the History Guy.
You are well prepared my friend. You can use any container to freeze the ice, I also have done that with storage containers. I see you have an ice maker and would have that going 24/7 leading up as well.
Hello from Scotland 😅 loving your no bs videos and getting to see inside your fridge and prices of food etc I've been addicted to alcohol drugs and sugar and carbs for many years. Diets all my life Etc Been carnivore for a month and my skin is better, my vision has improved and surprisingly I have no sugar cravings. Keep up the good work 🎉
Not sure where you’re at in Florida, but my parents live there too, in Summerfield, near the Villages. Speaking of fasting as well, if I had to go without food as well for 3 days or more, it’d be fine. We’re not glucose dependent. It’s great being fat adapted. Carnivore is right for me, for many.
I moved from Florida in 2021 to the South Carolina midlands. We may get the outer bands of this storm. Maybe 25 - 30 mph winds. I live alone and I am always super stocked. I keep three months worth a meat in my freezer and I also have a natural gas generator. My stove and oven are both Nat Gas. I also keep 18 gallons of purified water from the WalMart primo water. I dont do fluoride. Stay safe.
Great advice, I was in tampa for 30 years and have very similar setups. Moved to Hendersonville NC and have never seen devastation like this. Left my back up power supply in Tampa, thought my Car Fridge Freezer would be a good back up. Didn’t work, so pretty much lost 2.0 lbs of frozen ribeyes. I have a great water filter, so can pretty much drink out of a mud Puddle. I am salting the meat to save it, 50/50 on that, time will tell. Wish i thought to get more canned stuff. Either way, I have water, dry place to sleep, temp is fantastic, so many in much worse shape. Ordered my eco flow for the next time, and will be stocking up on more canned meats when things settle down a bit.
We have a gasoline powered generator that we have used a couple of times and been glad for it, thankfully not for too long, but we can plug in the fridge, a window unit AC for the bedroom, and charge phones. We have a gas stove and charcoal grill. We could get by if we had to. You look like you’re in great shape in case of power outage, Mitch.
Mitch…you’re the bomb!! I’m a bit stressed out because we’re currently in NY and our Florida house appears to be in the cone (Ocala). Not much we can do except wait it out and pray. Being relatively new to tropical storms, I did learn some stuff from your video. The one base that we would not have sufficiently covered is keeping the refrigerator/freezer powered. I will definitely look into those small units you showed us. Good luck to you through this storm.
Great vid' Mitch. It's no good getting older if you dont get wiser,, seems the years worked well for you,. I've got ten more years on you but not sure I got that much wiser Good Luck, stay safe.

Mitch check on the floating neutral on the generator some appliances need it so no damage is done to the appliance you tube floating neutral for portable generator.
Don't need to worry about you Mitch! I can't wait to share my emergency cooking technique at the party tomorrow!!! It's kind of exciting, isn't it? Reminds me of when we have snow days up here!! 😆🤩😍
had to evacuate a few times when I was living in Destin....but this one I will ride out in St Pete.....hopefully this will weaken and not cause major destruction in the big bend
We also have the Eco flow and got a second one after the last hurricane. We also have a big propane generator. We should be fine- the storms are a part of living in Fl. Stay safe. See you on the other side! Time to cook up some steaks for dinner!
The effectiveness, if any, of Stabil, or other fuel stabilizers, have proven to be minimal...and on the snake oil side of things. Rotating stored gasoline, and gasoline in the generator, every three months minimum, as you indicate, is key. Changing the generator's oil as per manufacturer recommendations and running the generator monthly is also key.
Even though you are prepared for this upcoming hurricane, my husband and I are still praying that you do well during the storm 🙏. And yes, we took the rest of the day off and ate meat 🥩😊.
We are closer to hurricane Helene’s path on the west coast of Florida. Before we moved to Florida, we decided to spend the money on a whole house automatic starting natural gas electric generator. It runs everything, including the air conditioning. During hurricane Ian, the house was on generator power for 29 hours. There were a few shorter outages before Ian that weren’t related to storms. So, the whole house generator is really nice. I’ve thought about buying a small propane stove like you have for cross country road trips. I could stop at parks and cook my carnivore food. How long does a small propane can last? One thing you didn’t mention is non-drinking water. If municipal water wasn’t available, do you have water you could use to flush your toilets? Maybe a few 5 gallon buckets of water would be enough to cover that situation. Before hurricane Ian, I filled up about ten 5 gallons buckets of water. We ended up not needing them at all. For hurricane Helene, we would use 5 gallons buckets with our pool water, and not store all those buckets in the house. It’s probably very unlikely to have a municipal water outage, but it’s a good idea to have a backup plan for the non-drinking water.
How does your community center come into play for the residents during extended power and/or water outages? Though this time of year, late in the hurricane season, it's not sweltering, but maybe an easy to setup portable room air conditioner unit could be a good addition to your Links page. They can draw 10 amps or more, so a quality, properly sized, portable gas generator (or tri-fuel) non-inverter type w/low Total Harmonic Distortion, would be necessary to run it (link as well?). Here, the heat is the killer during power outages, and a pre-planned "cold room" is the shot. Hmmm, a new section in your links for extended power outages for carnivores? 😮 Next hurricane, I'm cooking a couple of roasts, plenty of bacon and hard boiled eggs (know you dont like HB eggs) beforehand to have for the 1st few days of a power outage.
The community is useless, it's every man for himself. I've been through these power failures before and I'm perfectly fine with just a fan or two moving the air
Hey Boyd! Funny (not in ha ha :) ) how we have the opposite problems - here it's the blizzard power outage that is the most worry. It's easier b/c the food can all be moved outside, luckily we have 2 fireplaces. Last time it was almost 2 days, and the fire kept the room comfortable enough for sitting and sleeping :) . The fireplace is a lifesaver - can also heat water and cook over it - just like camping. I have a Berkey water filter thingy i can melt snow if I run out of my back up supply, or get it from a river about a block away. And - I have a cool way to cook to share with the group tomorrow!
