- We've known for some time that Wes Craven always intended on Scream 4 being part of a new trilogy. Dimension Films were so confident this would happen, they even signed up Kevin Williamson to pen Scream 4 & 5. So what went wrong? And what were Wes Craven's ORIGINAL plans for the new Scream trilogy. We discuss this and also highlight how the new Scream movie are attempting to honour Wes' legacy by attempting to do what couldn't be done in 2011.

I’ve heard that the original plan was that the hospital scene at the end of 4 would not exist, and it would end on a cliff hanger with Jill getting away with it, and not knowing who survived (Kirby or Sidney). Then in 5, they would both be revealed as alive, but Sidney would be suffering from amnesia and not remember that Jill was the killer. Jill and Kirby would be at college together, with a new killer who knows that Jill was behind it. That would be so interesting, and it’s a shame we never got to see it. It’s also a shame that there was never a proper conclusion to the tv series.
Love this idea! Kinda brings a bit of IKWYDLS with the killer knowing a secret, and Jill could've even continued killing people in Scream 5 if they found out about her being the last killer, and she could use the new killer to cover her tracks by pinning the kills on them? Ugh, so much potential with this premise!

Kirby taking over as the lead in the franchise would be pretty cool. It would've been new and Sydney's arc wouldn't be too milked if they written her off (at least temporarily). It could give the franchise a new story and a new way to go.

@@ashleystubberfield3643 pretty subjective opinion that I don't think many will agree with that all the characters sucked, most people at the bare minimum loved Kirby.
Jill was first shocked with the defibrillators (shock to the heart) and then shot in the heart, both by Sidney. She is DEAD. Kirby was still moving when we cut away, like Wes Craven said. It's credible that she died of her wounds, but it's equally believable that she lived. It even makes sense that Charlie couldn't kill her because he still loved her and that's why he walked away knowing she was still alive and moving on the ground. I would love for Kirby to return.

I would’ve liked to see Kirby be our final girl for at least one film. I think she would’ve made a unique final girl because of her personality and I think Hayden couldve pull off the emotional scenes necessary to maybe even connect to Sydney’s character. We could’ve seen that in a sincere way to contrast the insincerity of Jill in the last movie.

We didn’t get her standing in the end, but she SURVIVED according to the new movie leaving her part wide open to come back like Sidney and Gale.
And now she's back from Scream 6 so she very well may be the new final girl (Tara second).
Kirby was such a good character and Hayden had one of the BEST scenes in the franchise and knocked it out of the park. I need Kirby to come back!

Kirby survived, according to an Easter Egg in the awful 2022 film.
Jill and Kirby are almost universally considered the most interesting additions to Scream 4, so it would have been cool to see Kirby's life explored. Funny enough, if she survived, she would have been given everything Jill wanted, fame, adoration, sympathy, fans. Jill's plan would have worked, just not for her.
It was actually Kevin Williamson who came up with the idea of a new trilogy and pitched it first to Wes Craven then the Weinstein brothers and they green lighted Scream 4. But problem is Williamson wrote the script and turned it over to the production company and Wes to make it happen and he went back to focusing on his TV shows at the time. And it was actually the Weinsteins who changed the ending to Scream 4 with the hospital scene that wasn't in Kevin's script and it didn't set up Scream 5 the way he had originally planned it to.
That's why he never finished the next script for them to produce and the Weinstein company also no longer wanted to make the movies either. Hence why It's been on the shelf for 10 years.
Not correct. Kevin pitched a new trilogy years before Scream 4 but his problems with the studio were always there. Kevin NEVER finished writing the script and went back to his tv show. Kevin was promised things by the studio and they didn't keep their promises just like what happened before Scream 3. You can actually tell which scenes, dialogues and characters are mostly Kevin's in Scream 4 and which ones are not.

Wes was deliberate in EVERYTHING. Hell, he reshot Dewey’s scenes so he’d survive for the second because he loved the character. I could tell he had a soft spot for Kirby in how she was presented. I was hopeful she’d come back because she really was the bright spot in Scream 4 and even though they aren’t doing this, I’m glad the thought was there.
Craven always loved his characters so much and knew what to do with them. Actually in Dream Warriors he never wanted Nancy to be killed by the end.
Scream 4 was my favourite (after the OG). It was a really solid cast, it’s a shame it didn’t do well, especially when you watch it after the fact.
I’m not convinced on the new cast, and I’m really hoping there’s space for Wes’s original intentions to happen if not in 5 then in a scream 6 with Kirby. I can see such an awesome potential dynamic with her/Sidney/Gale.
Scream 4 was horrible I’m sorry but it wasn’t great, 1 and 2 were the best, 3 was just all over the place and scream 4 never should of been, idk this already looks. Enter than 4 but we will have to see, I think Sydney should get killed off, either way I’m going to watch it in theatres

I think scream 2 was the absolute worse. All the death scenes were cringe. Only good one and the best part of the whole movie was Sarah Michelle Gellar, who had about 15mins of screen time.
If there's one thing some people back then even now need to take into consideration it's how no one is ever considered "canon" dead officially unless we see a body. At least it wasn't a cutaway with her like Steve.

Jill as An ex-ghostface being stalked by new Ghostfaces would have been soooo cool. All the possibilities and situations coming from this. Also knowing she stands her own and knowing how to think as the killer, maybe even taking on the role of hero, with a very dark past.
Jill could still be alive, she was shot in the chest in a hospital and since when has a Ghostface ever died from getting shot in the chest? Plus she was in the hospital. Even if not in 5 they could bring her back for 6 maybe she's in like an asylum or something
This was an idea I've toyed with. Why hasn't Scream, Movie or TV Series, ever done where the Ghostface is successful, then gets stalked by a new ghostface? That would of been amazing and I really enjoyed Jill as a menacing villain. She was scary. The scariest Ghostface since Billy imo.

That being said, I would love to see what they came up with, but I am definitely more excited for Scream 2022.
Scream 4 originally will end in a cliffhanger,.. after Jill is taken to the hospital surrounded by reporters (as we saw at the film) the police found another girl alive in Charlie's house, Dewey and Gale wondered about if Sidney is one of the survivors, a lot of people came to the conclusion that the survivor was Kirby and I love that theory because Jill wanted fame by herself and she would be really pissed off when she found out that another final girl steals her thunder.. as audience we know about Jill as a killer but I think Scream 5 will jump many years ahead from Scream 4 and both girls would be in another scenario in their lives, specially Kirby, perhaps Jill would become famous but Kirby wants to remain anonymous. Another murders would happen around Kirby and she and Gale Weathers at the end find out that Jill is behind these new murders by recruiting new Ghostface killers, sadly Dewey dies and the next chapter is the revenge of Kirby against Jill.. those were my ideas for Scream 5 and 6... hope this new film brings new ideas for the next chapters of the saga

yeah having Kirby back would be great, i think it more likely lean on future spin offs of the series. Since the scream series were always focus on Sidney Prescott and her group from Woodsboro. i like Kirby taking central role, as it make for some surprising situations, while she is unaware of how horror films work and her being sole survivor would be interesting story to see

I really enjoyed it as well. It’s my second favorite after the OG
Imagining that the fifth film develops immediately after the events of the fourth, I always wanted Jill to kill someone like Bell killed Paquin. Wanted this scene for the fifth movie. Towards the end, when she decides to act and stage a new third act.
And, of course, the confrontation between Jill and Kirby - this is what I would expect from such a fifth part.
I would have like the idea of Jill surviving and not being caught. Like Dewey suggested Sidney might not remember what happened, and of course Kirby surviving. Having Kirby unknowingly still being friends with Jill. Maybe Scream 5 could have started with Jill deciding she didn't like sharing final girl status with Kirby, finding a new fall guy/girl, and with the killings starting again Sidney starts to remember. Also, a surviving ghost face would be different, could be cool.

@@charmedtommo8995 she got stabbed once in the lower part of the gut or in her stomach, it’s more fatal if you get stabbed in the chest cause the heart and lungs and other systems are there whereas the stomach there’s more of a chance of survival
After just watching Someone's In Your House- it's HARD to come close to the gold that is scream. I strongly believe this movie is going to blow our socks off. That's my high hopes.
It’s hard to really suggest whether Scream 4 would have done well otherwise, but one thing that I really do believe hurt it’s chances of doing well in the box office was it opened the same weekend as Rio-a family movie! Kid movies almost ALWAYS make more money! Because 1. It’s parents taking their kids (more ticket money) & they generally have a wider appeal. Not everyone does Horror. And they released it in April which is more of an Easter and summer anticipation season. They should have either 1. Released Scream 4 during the Fall during spooky season OR if they wanted to release it after that time period, they should have went with a release date where it didn’t have much competition; especially not with a family friendly movie!
Speaking of the upcoming trailer… am I the only one who thinks they’re gonna release it either in the theaters for the 25th anniversary/ when Halloween kills gets released?

Wes Craven never decided anything when it came to Scream as Scream was Kevin Williamson's creation. Craven was brought in for Scream on his request. There was no actual plan for Scream 4 to be part of a new trilogy because Kevin had a lot of doubts regarding the studio just like he did 10 years earlier. And he was right as the studio pissed off Kevin over again while he was writing the script(which is why he didnt' finish the script) just like they pissed him off over before Scream 3. Kevin had plans, not Wes Craven. But the studio screwed up in a big way by wanting to having control of the script and the characters.

Remake, Reboot, Relaunch, I've grown to hate Re-everything in horror bc it's not innovative. Nobody wanna create their own product. They'd rather just "add their own spin" to something that already has a solid fanbase.

Personally... I love all the scream films, and knowing small details makes it that much more enjoyable to watch. The biggest hook for me is the "who done it" I love a murder mystery. The movie references are just a little bonus. I also like when a film can make you think... what would I do in that situation???

I'm fine with the part 4 we got. It's my 2nd favorite in the series. Though the idea of Jill surviving & a new killer tormenting her knowing her secret would have been awesome. Too bad.
Jill being alive in an asylum, and escaping to kill would've been pretty stupid. There's no element of surprise, it strays away from what the Scream franchise has established itself to be, plus it would only be a secret if they kept her status unknown till the end of the movie when the killer is unmasked, but even then it would've been an "oh, we forgot to mention, she's still alive" moment, which just feels like a ridiculous movie plot twist. The reason the Ghostface reveals work is that we see the killer/s as a normal everyday individual among the rest of the characters and not just some hidden villain that appears physically without the mask in one scene. That's why Scream 3's reveal didn't work out much because Roman was nowhere in the movie, he wasn't important, just pushed in randomly until that final scene. Jill's Ghostface reveal was the best in the franchise in my opinion, because thinking about it shows how obvious it was that she's the killer, but when watching Scream 4 the first time, you have no clue it's her. Billy's reveal didn't work as an element of surprise for me because it was so obvious.
I don’t know about Jill , but I has some slight hope that Kirby is still alive and is in hiding with help from Sidney and Dewey.

Honestly I think part of the reason why scream 4 didn’t do to well in theaters is because it didn’t really have good marketing. I remember I didn’t even know there was a 4th film coming out at the time until after it had left theaters and was confused why I didn’t hear or know about it? It was odd to me at the time. And maybe because people just didn’t seem to have much interest because it was like 11 years after the 3rd movie which was controversial but feel like it’s gotten a lot more appreciation over the years. And maybe because of bad word of mouth that 4th movie wasn’t good and that people didn’t like the younger cast taking over. It was a odd time for movies back in 2011.

Would love to have seen a new set of 3 films whilst keeping the 3 originals. Unlike many other horror films what’s so great about the scream films is the three original loved characters Sydney, Duey and Gail have all survived so killing them now would be a shame but it’s going to happen sooner or later to really get the deep emotion of the major Scream fans.
Other than Judy who is returning for Scream 2022 no other characters from Scream 4 are returning so they have a real chance to really give it a go for this time round.
Keeping Kirby would have been a fantastic idea (is there any chance she is going to be in it and this news just some how hasn’t been leaked) she was such a strong stand out role and she acted the part brilliantly but perhaps she will appear alive in the scream 6 film instead.
Another few characters I would have loved to of seen in Scream 5 was Mark Kincaid. We haven’t heard of what happened to him….also another appearance of Martha Meeks or another member of Randy’s family.

Oddly enough, there’s so much hype around SCREAM 5! We’re all here because we love the franchise but to be completely honest, I’ve never felt like many people appreciated or even respected SCREAM.
I have younger brothers and apparently there is so much hype on social media (mainly tik tok) over this new movie! Kids changing their profile pics to Ghostface which is pretty cool!

I honestly think that Randy's sister Martha would be a twist to the franchise. She had a 2 min roll in the third movie. Now I could see her and stu having a kid. Ultimately the torch needs fo be passed to a new set of OGs this can be done with or without killing the original 3 as long as it’s done in the right way, the reason behind everyone loving Kirby isn’t down to her character it’s because she’s the only one outside of the original 3 that’s had character development, what’s made this franchise so great is the fact we’ve understood rooted with characters, I’m sure with the new film if they give us new blood that we can connect with will keep us wanting more without having to kill off any of the original 3 OGs

I'm sure we will see trailers around when Halloween Kills comes out or just after as everyone will be going to see that film & talking about it then once November hits then promo for Scream will start leading up till January and release date

They waited so long to make part 4 that young new horror audiences didn’t even know what it was and only Scream fans were hyped about it. I fear the same thing happens again. Not to mention most successful horror was PG13 and supernatural at the time. Did they really have the nerve to blame Kevin’s script? Kevin’s scripts gave us Scream 1, 2 and 4. Kevin not writing the scripts gave us Scream 3 and the TV series… you can decide for yourself.
Scream 4 wasn't bad at all and kinda happy those ideas didn't pan out. I think now that time has passed and there has been enough time for new ideas, this new one appears to be more promising.

Actually the reason why scream 5 never happened until now was because Wes was sick of the fact the script kept getting re-writes at the last minute and wanted a final script confirmed before shooting. And it was that perverse vile man Harvey Weinstein who kept getting Kevin to do re-writes and Weinstein said he wanted more scream movies and was happy with how scream 4 did in the box office.
If anyone has ever seen Scream Queens season 2, I think that’s the route, Scream 5 would have loosely taken.

They need to Stop revealing the killers and having them die. Id take a beast ghostfsce who survives for a twist...good soundtrack and slick lines
After seeing the trailer of 5CREAM I doubt of Kirby coming back which sucks. I really liked Kirby she was my favorite character in SCRE4M. Pretty much every teen was killed off. Would have love one of them to survive.
Scream 4 was Successful at box office but it only made 97 million that’s why scream 5 didn’t get made cause of low box office and plus Wes craven passed away so mtv took the franchise new reboot direction with new characters new killers during each seasons so scream 5 couldn’t happen at time.
Scream 4 released during the height of horror remakes being released in my opinion. It was not ahead of its time, it was perfect for the time. The whole point of the movie is that the killers try to “remake” the original Woodsboro murders. Every Scream movie parody’s and references something in the horror genre. Wes Craven chose remakes as a topic for 4 which makes sense with when it was released. At such a high point for the amount of horror remakes being released. Like the terrible Rob Zombie Halloween remakes. Horror movies at the time were also known for having a certain type of drab/darkened lighting which Wes chose for Scream 4 and it worked out well in my opinion.

From what ive heard about what's going to happen in the new scream coming up......... Wes and Kevin's original idea and script would be much better.

I heard one killer is revealed early on in the movie killing one of the OGs and the second killer is revealed towards the end with different motives than the first one implying they weren't working together. Also family stuff that in my opinion feels like an after thought because there was no indication in the movies before.
