2020 CBR650R Upgraded 2 Days After Delivery (English).

- My 2020 Honda CBR650R (Phantom 3) was delivered on March 11 and I upgraded it as soon as possible which happened to be 39 hours after it came. It would have been done the same day but motorcycles and a cool ass Challenger in Germany cost "A LOT MORE MONEY than in the US" and I had to work. It has 0 kilometers on it and has never been ridden (seasonal license plate from April/October)... plus this Chinese Flu isn't helping things. I modify all my motorcycles within a day or so of getting them because I don't believe in wasting time or making excuses. No one will see me on the autobahn with a stock exhaust or shitty stock levers. If that was the case it would just sit around until the changes were made and it met with my approval. Now it can be ridden... this is how I roll!

I'll answer any questions and accept any criticism. I ride year round (more than 1 bike) because someone has to do it. Ride safe, don't break any laws and don't endanger anyone else through reckless acts.

I'm happy with the results because unlike most people I have experience using these parts with my other 2 motorcycles. For the A2 license I would say that this is one of the best choices you could make. It looks and sounds great :)

Oddly enough I wanted the red one but delivery was going to take 3 months so I took the black and had it in my garage in just over 2 weeks.

That's how I do with all of my bikes. Once I settle on getting that particular bike then I go buy it and order up parts as I await delivery. I just like changing out things before I start riding around. Plus I don't want anyone else's looking exactly like mine... lol.

Did you keep your cbr500? Beginner rider here.. not sure if i could just jump to 650 or start with the 500. Tho i think with 650 ill get the most bang for the buck. What are your thoughts? Difference between this 2? Subbed!
No, I sold the cbr500r in November because I knew that I was getting the 650. Just go straight to the 650. It's a nice bike to ride, but you will be in a more sporty riding position that with the 500. The differences between the two are to numerous to write here. I rode my little 500 on a 5 country tour. Great bike for touring, but it's not a speed demon by any means. You won't be disappointed with the 650 :)

Is that windshield same size as stock ?
The windshield is the same dimensions as the original but it's got a slight bubble. It's not a direct copy as it provides a little bit more wind protection.

That’s a beautiful bike. Unless you ride 2-up, cheap mod is to remove those silver passenger pegs. Did that on my girlfriends cb650r and looks way cleaner
I ride alone mostly, but due to German law I can't remove the rear pegs without getting an annotation in my vehicle registration and an inspection on the modification. The rear pegs don't bother me. The biggest mod I've done for all of my bikes was to ride them at full speed on public roads whenever I wanted without breaking the law :)

Bro the angle of the Kennzeichenhalter is way to low. Must be at 45 Degrees or higher otherwise you will get problems with the Polizei
I've was stopped by the police in June. They asked me about the exhaust and if I had the ABE (which I did) and then they measured the angle of the license plate. He said it was to high so I pushed down up on it and rode off. I put it back as soon as I was in the garage. After 11 years here I know what works and what doesn't... plus I'm American :p

Der Schalldämpfer ist jeden Cent wert, den ich dafür bezahlt habe. Hört sich fantastisch an! Viele Leute kaufen einen Akrapovic, aber um ehrlich zu sein ist er nicht besser als IXIL.

Thanks. I do just about the same types of upgrades on my other motorcycles with the exception of the full exhaust. Normally I just use a slip-on.
The most important upgrades for this bike is suspension and tires...
I have put Pirelli Diablo III's on it but I don't need a new suspension yet as I haven't seen any issues riding all day over 230kph+. I've never had any problems with the suspension on any of my bikes, but if I thought that it neede it I would have done it within the first day of ownership as always.
@@gregoryaparker it sure depends on the weight of the rider, riding style and where you ride. Just bought one for some track use, it’s way to soft.. try hitting the brakes hard at 230kph and you’ll notice it really fast..
How is the tailtidy working out so far? I heard that it gets real muddy with a shorter one... I drive a lot in bad weather too. And do you think it is legal? I don't think the Rennleitung likes the angle 😅
In the last 4 years I've never had a problem with the angle of the license plate probably because only Germans worry about it being 9 degrees to high... Ha ha. I put the first 6km on it about 3 days ago and the sun was shining. I have a similar tail tidy on my Yamaha and I don't have any issues with mud on me personally. I weatherproofed the back of my license plates so that they don't rust so easy. Riding in the rain isn't a problem, that's why we have car washes :)

Es ist keine schlechte auspuff und es klingt sehr gut aus! es gibt verschiedene von IXIL und sie sind nicht so teuer wie ein Akropovic.

I sound American because I've been practicing my accent for years. I learned English by watching reruns of the Twilight Zone when I was a kid. I'm just messing with ya! I'm from North Carolina and lived in 4 countries besides the US before I returned to Germany and settled down after a long time away. I got married, found a job and had kids. That was 11 years and 6 days ago. I was never a US soldier which is a common misbelief. I did get kicked out of the French Army, but that's a story for another time.

Yes, the exhaust is louder than the original one and it's worth it. It sounds fantastic without removing the db killer. If you take the db killer out like some people do then you'll have a demon on your hands... Lol

@@bs_amg2864 No, there is no power loss. The manufacturer claims a 5hp increase but that's irrelevant. If I wanted more power I would have gotten a Fireblade :)
Is it With dB Killer oder without?
It's with the db killer. It's illegal to ride here without one.
where you installed your charger?
I installed a 12v socket under the passenger seat that can also fit twin USB 3.0 plugs. I also have a 3.0 USB charger up front near the front to charge my phone as I use it for navigation.

I'm 5'8... it fits me perfectly although I can't flat foot it, it's still no problem. For a tall guy like yourself your going to have to try it out for comfort to make sure it's the right bike for you.

I don't have the link but I ordered them from eBay. They are exactly the same ones I had on my CBR500R. They're pretty cheap, but they look nice and come straight from the manufacturer.

@@xQuty Sorry for the late reply. They'll fit as the screw attaching them is (almost) always the same diameter. I made sure to hold mine in place woth Loctite due to the vibration.

I've got 3 bikes and a Challenger. I'll ride /drive one of the others if something happens to my little CBR650R. In any case nothing I've done voids the warranty here in Germany. Ich bin ganz sicher... Ich liebe die deutschen :p

How did you mount the ram mount there?
I removed the black plastic cap on the triple tree and cut the Ram Mount stem down to fit it as the instructions state. It's pretty simple and doesn't take long at all. I actually reinforced mine with a metal washer on the top so that I could compress the rubber plug more for an even tighter fit. I've used them before and if they don't fall off or vibrate on the autobahn then they're pretty much good anywhere else in the world. Are the vtrec levers the short or the large?
They are shorty levers. I never replace stock levers with levers equally as long as the ones I just removed. I got them with a discount from MOTEA for €84.

The bike cost €8870 plus around €1200 in upgrades to make it rideable. About $10,900 in total.
5:15 Be careful with that. 30° is legal and everything from 30 to 45° Licenseplate angle is just a few euros but if the angle is more than 45° it becomes a felony "Kennzeichenmissbrauch" and you can get in serious trouble
After 10 years, 11 months and 17 days in Germany I know the road rules here. I have never had a problem with the license plate (kennzeichen) even when I rode from Regensburg to Austria, Slovenia, Croatia, Bosnia and Hungary back in 2018. I fully understand the risks and until now I have never failed a TÜV. I just think it looks better and the blitzer can see it perfectly (believe me). I think the police have better things to do at the moment other than to stop and ask me about my license plate angle. Flensburg can kiss my ass! You only have one life... live it!

Yeah, I know about the seat cowl. I've got 3 bikes, but the link you sent is for a Chinese knockoff that won't be the exact color. I'm waiting for the OEM one from Honda to drop in price because although it's 3 times more expensive, at least it's a true color match for the gunpowder black matt metallic paint job :)

I've never had an aftermarket filter in any of my bikes so it's not something I'm considering upgrading unless it's going to give me 20 more horsepower on the autobahn... Ha ha.

@@justinjohnson4065 No, the exhaust gives the bike a deeper sound. It's very nice in comparison to stock. An aftermarket air filter won't do much if anything more than OEM. That's how it is.

The entire system has to be replaced (headers too) and cutting down the stock system to make a slip on fit would be illegal as it would remove the catalytic converter. I don't care about the few horsepower I gain because I can ride as fast as I want, when I want without breaking the law. This isn't the first motorcycle I've done like this... I do it regularly.

Yeah, it's my Challenger. To be honest I mostly ride it in the winter because it's 4 wheel drive. In the Spring and Summer I ride my motorcycles... Ha ha

I've had it 14 months and it's a fantastic bike. It's not a Fireblade with 200hp,but it's a very nice bike. I haven't had any problems with it and it has a comfortable riding position. It's a sports tourer basically. It looks like a baby Fireblade, but is more suited for longer rides and city riding. All in all it's a good bike for not a lot of money.

I ordered it here in Regensburg, Germany last month. They didn't even have any at the dealership so I looked in the Honda catalog and ordered it like a pizza or something... Lol. I wanted the red one but delivery was going to take 3 months... the rest is history.
They dont bring the black one in US or Canada. I do own a 2019 red one. I would say that the red is really amazing in person and i guess that a gloss red paint gonna be more durable than a matte black paint but i might be wrong.

All you need is insurance, gas and the autobahn to go as fast as you like. If you have gas and insurance then you can at least go as fast as allowed :)

Is this exhaust natively for the CBR650R? I found it on IXRACE's website, but its listed for the CB650F.

I ordered these parts from around Germany. The tankpad, reflector, PUIG Bar Ends, windshield, usb charger and Bruudt Tail Tidy came from eBay (all European approved). The brake/clutch levers came from Vtrec and the full exhaust came from IXIL.

To finish off the looks I'd highly recommend a seat cowl. And to really enjoy the ride... upgrade to a quickshifter!
Nice mods though and I like the exhaust sound. Thinking of getting an Akrapovic one for mine, and ditching the pillion pegs. (p.s. If you want an even neater tail tidy, check out the one from Evotech.)
I was thinking about a cowl for the rear seat, but I can't see the advantage in using it as the bike already looks nice. I have my eye on a quickshifter as well, but the price jumps all over the place. Until then I'll have to do it the old fashioned way. I don't like the Akra they have for this motorcycle as the headers have to be assembled and springs are needed to hold them. The installation doesn't look seamless, but everyone likes something different (the sound is nice). I've used this same tail tidy on my other 2 motorcycles and since I'm not a fair weather rider I like the little bit of protection it gives. The only thing I'll do now is wear my tires down and get some Pirellis, but that won't take long with a mix of autobahn and country riding :)

Yeah, due to German laws it has to be a certain angle and the plate can't be any smaller, but I make up for it by riding more than twice the speed limit of any US public roads :p

No, it's not unique to just Europe as they are also sold in the Gunpowder Black Metallic color in Austrlalia and Asia. For some reason Honda decided not to sell it in the US, but maybe it will come one day.

How come you changed the headers are the news ones titanium? The new one still looks like it has a catalytic
In order to install a new exhaust on the CBR650r the entire system needs to be replaced (unless you chop up the original and weld in a new exhaust). The new one is not titanium, but it has a catalytic converter. Since 2006 all new motorcycles must have a cat, thereby making it illegal to ride without one here in Germany. It's loud enough and I can ride as fast as I want and I don't have to break the law to do it :)

Does it back fire?
No, it does not backfire because the entire exhaust system is street legal and I haven't taken any of the baffles out to make it louder. My Yamaha on the other hand pops on deceleration because the vibration caused the baffle to fall out and the replacement was inadequate. I'll need to get another one for that... Ha ha.
Is the exhaust approved for road ride?
Yes, the exhaust is approved with the e-mark or e-prufzeichen as it's called here in Germany. It's legal to ride with it.

No, I'm not one to try to improve engine performance. It's a 650.. not a Fireblade... Ha ha. I'm satisfied with it now.

I went to the dealer and ordered it. I said I need something not everyone else has and they gave me the prototype codenamed "Phantom 3".

Hey 😊 hast du die komplett Anlage selber angebaut ? Habe mit auch die von MIVV bestellt für das gleiche Motorrad. War es schwer und hast du Gegebenenfalls ein paar Tipps ? Komme auch aus der Nähe Regensburg
Ich hab es alles selber gebaut. es hat 2 stunden gedauert für alles, aber ich hab auch pausen gemacht. der auspuffanlage ist ein albtraum, weil der verkleidung abgebaut werden mussen. ich hab es alleine gemacht mit ein wagonheber von Skoda. es wird bestimmt einfacher wenn du hilfe hast.

@@sandro_og7512 der Krümmer dichtung hab ich nicht ausgetauscht. Der Honda hat 0km drauf und der Dichtungen sind neu. Ich hab kein spezielle Werkzeug benutzt weil ich Amerikaner bin. Ich wünsche dir viel Spaß aber eine gute Kumpel wird super wenn es so weit ist :)

did you keep the catalyst on the exhaust ??? because I saw on youtube that some people ordered the pipes on aliexpress and just installed the slip on to not have the catalyst

I removed the entire exhaust and have it now for sale on eBay. I don't order Chinese parts for my vehicles. The "old" exhaust has 0km on it as I replaced it right when I got the motorcycle. The new IXIL Race MK2 system has it's own catalytic converter which is much lighter than the original. Every part I took off of the motorcycle was replaced... I didn't reuse any of them. You can get a "de-cat" system, but it will fail the vehicle inspection when it's time for the emissions test.
