If you want low fuel conumption you should look for a 1 or 2 cylinder bike like the ninja 650. Or you can install a power commander and programm it for less fuel conumption or even to take lower octane at the cost of power

It doesn't have the 600s top end but with the trade-off of being *actually* street-rideable. And with the competition being some flavor of parallel twin, the engine makes the bike stand out. Yeah, it doesn't have the low-end grunt of the p-twins and is on the heavier side, but with some buyers, the 4cyl sound alone still has that *dream bike* connotation, especially in countries where the bigger bikes (400cc and up) are a rarity. The 4cyl makes it an achievable aspirational bike.

Hi Dan, thanks for the review, bike looks lovely. I ended up going for the CB650R because I'm just too tall for the CBR. Loving the naked version and the improvements on the 2021 are spot on. Just a quick feedback on the screen. I've noticed that when the sun shines straight to it it's when I see it better, it seems to come to life (not that we get much sun in the UK :) ) anyways, thanks again for the review.

1993 CBR600 - 100hp and 63nm . 28 years later CBR650 - 93hp and 63nm of torque. I even remember my FZR250 4 stroke had 45hp and that was from 1987 or something.

Street Triple would be better for "road" as it's a naked and would be a bit more comfortable but on this you'd get better wind protection with fairings and whatnot
16:05 - the starting price for the CB650R in The Netherlands is €9798 and €10798 for the CBR650R, which also isn’t on UK levels. I suspect the price to be better elsewhere in Europe because in The Netherlands we have an additional tax (called BPM) where the added cost is based on the emissions of the bike (or car for that matter)
The Dunlop D214's are just OK. They never gave me tonnes of confidence but when you get them hot they do stick. The issues come when you hit something slippery in the wet. I slid a few times on tar snakes in the wet and once I slid out the front for a moment in the dry because I was already at lean and someone almost pulled out in front of me at a roundabout, so I braked and the front slid. Never dropped it but gave me a little fright. Now I have Metzeler Roadtec 02's and the difference is stark. They just feel way more planted and stuck to the road. So yeah, the D214's are OK but not great.
Great review mate thanks! Also, I'm pretty sure I ran into you at the dealers yesterday when I dropped the CBR off. I'll make sure to say hello next time!
@@Englishbikerdan That's right! Although to be fair I rode the Rebel on the way out. That bike is way more fun than it has any right to be at least on on paper.
Thank You for the video.. I just purchased one for my son. Took forever to find one in the USA but finally got lucky. Just need to wait a month for shipping/delivery. This will be our first street type bike. Our house has always been a Harley house so looking forward to something different.
Which one was better fun to ride? Trident 660 or the CBR 650R? Curious to know even though they're both in different segments, though same displacement class.
Nice review. The softer front suspension sounds more comfortable on the '21 CBR650R. I also like the new licence plate holder which isn't on my 2020 CBR650R. It is unfortunate the max torque is no longer at 8,000 rpm. Sounds like from the higher revs to get the same torque bottom torque range has also gone from 3,500 to 5,000 rpms. In future thought I would not mind adding this one to the shed & have the 2020 & 2021 models because of the differences if I saved up for the new one. Has the gearing changed? Mine does around 5,000 rpms in 6th gear at 110 km/h on the highway.
Most people ride on the road and most people are not Marc Márquez. Most people therefore will be able to wring almost every last drop of performance out of this bike on the twisties. It's a totally realistic good value purchase. Litre-plus sport bikes are *absolutely fantastic* if you have deep pockets and you like going on the track each week and you travel every month to Germany to ride the unrestricted autobahns cos then you can exploit their genuine 190 mph/300 kph potential on a regular basis and get the best value out of your purchase.
I really seriously love this bike, but insurance costs are crazy high for a young rider like me :( forced to choose in the roadsters (not complaining about the cb650r, it's really nice too!)
Very informative and constructive critique of this lovely machine. Honda is still the best in terms of quality and reliability of the Japanese bikes IMHO. And although the 600RR is somewhat quicker I really think the CBR650R is more than adequate. Thanks again mate!

Right now I have a 2023 xr650l just for a commuter, but now the full fairing sportbikes are growing on me. I still need to test ride one of these but my next bike will be this or a ninja 650 when I’m old enough for my insurance to not be $200 a month😅
I put my deposit down on the 2023 CBR 650r. The Kawasaki ZX-6r is $1400 more than this and is much more track oriented than the Honda. I prefer the CBR
I keep hearing around that this bike is a great beginners bike. I have never ridden a motorcycle before. I use my bicycle for small commutes in town, but was looking on buying this motorcycle for (fun) motorway commutes. I also looked at the ninja 650, but the sound of an inline 4 is just something else...what do you think? Is this a good bike for someone like me?
LOVE the video! Did you say that the US won’t be getting the red option at all, or just during the initial roll out? Currently looking for this bike in the US and not having any luck. Really would love the red option. Do you know roughly when this bike should make its way out here??Keep doing what you’re doing! 🤙
@englishbikerdan I never miss your reviews. Btw given a choice between cbr650r Vs gsx-s750, which would be your choice? I ask because you are more experienced than many of us, plus you know things we don't. Please do revert
It is about £800 more in the UK than the US. I understand that you are comparing it price wise with its competitors, but it is still a fair chunk more money here than the US!
Fantastic review, thank you. Two questions about the front suspension. 1. You talk a lot about the improved forks. Mostly from the point of comfort (as I understood you anyway), not too much about the suspension performance when riding more aggressively. Is the bike now also better suited for track style riding? Or does the improved comfort come at the loss of some more aggressive performance? 2. You mention that the new front forks are NON Adjustable. I certainly don't see any adjustment screws in any of the photos or videos. However other reviewers are saying they are adjustable (fully adjustable). Also the Honda Web site (USA site anyway) says They ARE fully adjustable. Here is a copy/paste from the specs sheet. "Showa Separate Function Front Fork Big Piston unit (SFF-BP). It offers both reduced weight, superior rigidity, and excellent overall performance. Plus it offers adjustability for spring preload as well as rebound and compression damping." Do you know anything further? Thank you again.
It's certainly better at road riding than the previous one. For track stuff I'd need to ride in those conditions to really figure that out, but I think better damping leads to a more settled bike in any conditions, so in my mind it would be better. Definitely non-adjustable suspension on all the units I've tested and seen here. Unless the US gets different forks but I can't see why they'd do that. Thanks!
@@Englishbikerdan Thanks for replying! I had a CBR500R and sold it to upgrade to a 650R but then COVID happened last year, delaying. Looking like good around town, local road and shorter distance ride bike, but that depends on you and your willpower to travel :) I would gladly switch to this from vfr750 and have this light bike again XD
I had the predecessor to this bike the cbr650f. It sold alongside the cbr600rr. I think brand new it was just a shade over £6k. This new bike for what it is, is too over priced for basically the same bike. For a little bit more a kawasaki 636 would be my choice. This bike is good for a first big bike as it is quite forgiving, very linear and smooth. This should not be seen as a cbr 600rr replacement but as an everyday easy to handle machine in race attire. I do miss my cbr 650 and sometimes consider getting this new model. The price keeps me away though, it seems to be marketed as supersport bike when it isn't. Lovely bike none the less.
Honda really gets the sport bike lines right. The smooth seat style is so much better than the dropped seats of the other bikes.

I have this machine and I love it. Sure one can tire from sitting position, but all you need do is pull over in a nice spot and stretch a bit. I did that with all of the machines I’ve owned. I think it’s just good practice for safe riding.
I've always planned on getting a ninja 400 or a R3 for my first sports bike but then I had a dream last night about driving a cbr so now I'm here
As a owner and first time rider, I purchased2023 brand new z400 and I suggest a used. Altho greet bike , u will get bored quick and want more power. It is great beginner bike but it's exactly that a " beginner bike ". I highly suggest a used one learn and buy what u like. It's great nimble bike but ull want more power as u learn. Or buy this and slowly learn eventually I feel it'll be the same as long as u dont go reckless with the bike. Hopefully this helps on ur decision.
Thx Dan for review picked my one 2 weeks ago. It’s quality and perfect power for our roads.
How was it so far after months of ownership
@@dukeviper8385 it’s very smooth and reliable, but for me underpowered. So I decided to swap it for a BMWS 1000 R. I think the Honda needs more torque.
I hated the Dunlop tyres that come standard best thing I ever done was change them turned her In to a new bike
At 5’7 this puts my mind at ease as this is the bike I want but was worried I’d be to small for it
absolutely no problem, i'm 5'7 and drive a CBF 1000.
As a 2020 CB650R owner I’ve always wondered how the new 2021 big piston forks faired compared to the ones on mine. A bit gutted to hear they’re that much better aaaargh.
It wouldn't have been hard to pick what bike I would buy if only this bike was released in my country
I do like this bike and also the CB650R and they are similar but id like to see a CBR600rr with the exhaust under the frame like those in 2000's...I loved them
I’ve got a Honda CB650R 2021 model with The Dunlop Max sport tires they are brilliant
Yeah, really good tyres! Cheers! 👍
Thanks for the info on the screen, good to know. 👍
Would you mind tell me how tall are you? I'm around 185/186 cm and I'm a little concerned when it comes to bike size, I don't know which one should i buy
@@BT-Zoki Hi, sure. I'm 1.88. I held the CB650r for almost 1 year. When I took it back to the dealership for the 1st service I got a NC750x DCT as a replacement till mine was done, basically I spent around 7 hours on the NC, and I'm going to be honest with you, I felt so much better on the NC. I have then decided to change the CB650 for the NC, and I don't regret it. For my height, the NC was a much better choice. Hope you make the right choice too, ride safe.
@@mazaribeiro What's that in feet and inches?
Never mind . Just checked. 6"2. I'm 5'11, so hopefully the bike will work for me. It does sound low, tho. Easily flat footed by a 5'7.
1993 CBR600 - 100hp and 63nm . 28 years later CBR650 - 93hp and 63nm of torque. I even remember my FZR250 4 stroke had 45hp and that was from 1987 or something.
It's a good amount of power for road use. Less than 95bhp so it can be restricted for A2 in Europe. Smart business move.
@@Englishbikerdan most people can't even use 60hp properly. I just wish the old 400s would get remade. I bought a rc390 for a laugh but if it had 60hp it'd be perfect. Now it's all about fitting things into licence classifications.
Just bought mine last weekend just need to pass my test next month and get out and enjoy the roads the beautiful lake district has to offer 😍
Congrats, very jealous of your location!
@@Englishbikerdan 45 years young and never been so nervous about a test 😂
@@gaziley879 Ah you'll be fine. Although I can empathise, I get so nervous on tests. Good luck and let me know how you get on! Cheers, Dan.
So good to see you back in the saddle. 🦄
Good to be back 😁
Definitely getting the CBR now!
So basically not much has changed lol. The new exhaust does sound abit different but that gearbox whine never gets old lol
Did you miss the 4 or 5 times I mentioned the new suspension? 😉 It's much better due to the new forks but if you already have one I wouldn't rush out to swap. Gear clunk's are in apparently..... 😁
@@Englishbikerdan I was considering getting one but for me its just the dash that lets it down. Havent ridden the new one but cant wait to try out the suspension
Don't worry new dash is updated.. You can see clearly even in to much sunlight
@@callumdean Dash isn't much different tbh. Some slightly larger fonts but it's not bright enough. They need to talk to Triumph, the Trident LCD part of the screen is so bright!
the new logo design of "CBR" looks modern and futuristic👍.... compared to previous logo 2019 ...
It looks really nice as well Dan with the new livery style
1000 km mark done today my cbr650r 2021 🏍
Thanks for a great review I love your channel that's an awesome motorcycle
lucky! the 2021 in Canada are black only... gonna have to wrap it red when I get one.
I'm debating between this and the Street Triple R as my next bike. Which would be better for road riding? Thanks for making another video and nice to see you riding again!
Street Triple would be better for "road" as it's a naked and would be a bit more comfortable but on this you'd get better wind protection with fairings and whatnot
@@sacul1291 thanks for the suggestion. I'm just gonna have to test ride them and figure it out.
I paid 9.999€ for my CBR650R here in Luxembourg, we get screwed with those taxes on emissions too :/
Pfft here in Israel we still have the the 2019-2020 version and it costs 17000€~ give or take a couple hundred
Is it worth buying a uk bike?
9000 in belgium without options
Brilliant review Dan, I’m looking to get one of these this year after I do my a2 😁
Yust bought it 🤤all I need now is a license 😅
The Dunlop D214's are just OK. They never gave me tonnes of confidence but when you get them hot they do stick. The issues come when you hit something slippery in the wet. I slid a few times on tar snakes in the wet and once I slid out the front for a moment in the dry because I was already at lean and someone almost pulled out in front of me at a roundabout, so I braked and the front slid. Never dropped it but gave me a little fright. Now I have Metzeler Roadtec 02's and the difference is stark. They just feel way more planted and stuck to the road. So yeah, the D214's are OK but not great.
Love the videos like always, this would've been my next bike but honda always jacking up the prices of their bikes, but im happy with my 21 mt07
Great review mate thanks!
Also, I'm pretty sure I ran into you at the dealers yesterday when I dropped the CBR off. I'll make sure to say hello next time!
Ah were you on it before me? And your lady on the Rebel?
@@Englishbikerdan That's right! Although to be fair I rode the Rebel on the way out. That bike is way more fun than it has any right to be at least on on paper.
the sound is so pleasant
Australia doesn't have the red colour CBR650 for 2021. That so sad 😩
Just got my honda ruckus, but this would be sweet!
Thank You for the video.. I just purchased one for my son. Took forever to find one in the USA but finally got lucky. Just need to wait a month for shipping/delivery. This will be our first street type bike. Our house has always been a Harley house so looking forward to something different.
Congrats, I hope your son enjoys it. Ride safe. 👍
Which one was better fun to ride? Trident 660 or the CBR 650R? Curious to know even though they're both in different segments, though same displacement class.
My mind knows I don't need anything above CBR650R but my heart forces me to think about liter class bike 😋 and it would be a folly.
Absolutely beautiful bike
So gonna get one (next year when they're cheaper) Top review, cheers
True words right there. 👍
SWEET RIDE
Thanks for the review...keep up the great work.
Thanks! 👍
Great review, thanks for the information man much appreciated !!!
I absolutely love the red but it seems the 21 model is only available in black in the US. I might just have to look for a 19 or 20 to get that red
People gonna disagree but I think the front headlight area looks better than the rr bikes lol. Not a fan of the cut off nose look on those.
Heard it here first folks, Dan loves a big piston!
Must be all that prison time?
Another great review Dan.
Are the indicators for speed and revs easy to see in the sunlight?
Thank You for this review! Watching this at just about 3:30am. I was just thinking about sleeping.. but then I saw this and had to click!
Edit: Have been thinking of upgrading to this from a CBR500R
Thanks for watching so early! 👍
Same upgrade I want to make.
Wait how do you guys in the UK do the biker wave? You ride the wrong way on the road, can't wave with your throttle hand.
We nod our heads at each other.
We don’t ride the wrong way, it’s a different way, not everything is ‘the american way’
Hows the LCD dash? Did they improve over the previous years' model?
It's a lot brighter now, so that's good.
@@Englishbikerdan That's great to hear, not a lot of reviewers were talking about this.
Love the black widow exhaust on your CB650R btw, legit sounds like F1 car or a podracer from star wars.
@@DPham1 It's one of those things you don't notice unless you compare both bikes back to back. Black Widow did sound so good! Cheers mate 👍
I keep looking at one of these as my next bike coming from a 125 it’s big jump for a road bike but I have been riding on an off motor cross since I was a young kid unsure what to do 🤷🏻♂️😂
It sounds like you'll be fine!
Dan I’m 5’5” u think it be good for me ? Or which one u suggest ?
Right now I have a 2023 xr650l just for a commuter, but now the full fairing sportbikes are growing on me. I still need to test ride one of these but my next bike will be this or a ninja 650 when I’m old enough for my insurance to not be $200 a month😅
Is it better to quick shift or manual shift?
And in your opinion which one would cause less wear to your gearbox or clutch?
Great review as always! Oh and nice Larry David reference.
Thanks, gotta love Larry! 👍
Me too! I really like this bike reminds me of my cbr 600f4i (first big bike).
I think thats a nice looking bike
Should I be concerned with the vibration that come on at higher rpm?
Hello! is this bike comfortable for daily 1 hour long commutes or just commuting in general. thanks!!
I put my deposit down on the 2023 CBR 650r. The Kawasaki ZX-6r is $1400 more than this and is much more track oriented than the Honda. I prefer the CBR
i got the new grey one and i love it. this bike is great
I keep hearing around that this bike is a great beginners bike.
When it comes to comfort comparing it to the cbr500r are the clip on's a lot lower ? Great video by the way ! As all of them to be honest 😅🫶🙌
LOVE the video! Did you say that the US won’t be getting the red option at all, or just during the initial roll out? Currently looking for this bike in the US and not having any luck. Really would love the red option. Do you know roughly when this bike should make its way out here??Keep doing what you’re doing! 🤙
Thanks Brandon! Currently no red option in the States but they'd be mad not to release one eventually!
@englishbikerdan I never miss your reviews. Btw given a choice between cbr650r Vs gsx-s750, which would be your choice? I ask because you are more experienced than many of us, plus you know things we don't. Please do revert
'that is what she said' 🙌🏽
Heh.
It is about £800 more in the UK than the US. I understand that you are comparing it price wise with its competitors, but it is still a fair chunk more money here than the US!
It's of little use to convert the price by exchange rate. You need to compare like for like in the same sector, in the same country.
Thanks!
Hi Dan, what do you call the previous model? Do you mean 2020 didn't have the big piston forks? Thanks
Totally torn between this and the new Yamaha R7.
R7 does look good. I'd say build quality, Honda wins but that CP2 engine is fun. Will have to see how the R7 looks when it's out.
@@Englishbikerdan Thanks for replying! I had a CBR500R and sold it to upgrade to a 650R but then COVID happened last year, delaying. I really want a usable I-4 because it just sounds way better than a parallel twin. Would be nice to test ride both, but I feel test rides here in the states are rare. Cheers!
Nice intro!
I was wondering about the radio mounted front calipers though!🤣
Medium wave brakes. All the rage these days! 😂
On my 2020 model the brakes are awesome better than my 2009 fire blade brake that for sure the brake are definitely some thing not to worry about
Looking like good around town, local road and shorter distance ride bike, but that depends on you and your willpower to travel :) I would gladly switch to this from vfr750 and have this light bike again XD
