  • Honda CBR650R | The best everyday sportsbike?
After spending several weeks with Honda's middleweight sportsbike, is it any good doing the normal day to day stuff that us daily riders have to do? Join me as I take the CBR650R on the motorway, through town and ride it at night to see how it handles these real world situations. Is it really any good as an every day sportsbike?
Many thanks to Honda UK for making this video possible.

I have an MT07 at the moment, but wanted to try a sportsbike. I tried a cbr600rr today, lots of fun but u cant push the bike even in first gear without losing ur license. The cbr600rr doesent even feel as fast as the mt07 before u hit 10k rpm and at that point u are already going pretty "fast".

@Danny Me too #MatteBlack but I'm still enjoying my CB600F for the time being. My daily commute is a little over 80kliks back-and-forth but in the near future I'm pondering a new Honda (this one) due to the more aggressive styling, windscreen (perhaps even a taller one...🙄) & sportiness 👍🏾

This is my daily rider, it just does everything and isn’t too stupidly expensive. The riding position is sporty without being a back and neck killer. I’ve ridden it for two hours at a time with breaks. Stock exhaust is wicked. Tank is small but it is good on fuel. No wind blast for me, compared to an adventure bike with a short screen. Takes panniers no problem.

Hi Graham, did you ever ride the CB650R? If so, what did you make of the comparison to your CBR650R? What I’m really interested in knowing is if there’s much of a difference when it comes to wind blast. Obviously the CBR should be far less having a screen an all, but maybe the CB isn’t so bad.

I've owned one since May 2019 and I've reluctantly come to the conclusion it's time for something more comfortable. I think it's a stunning bike to look at, and as you say, it does everything you want and it is a fast bike when you pull the trigger and get the engine over 8,000 rpm, but my shoulders can't take any more punishment.
It's not the bikes fault, it's me getting old, but that aside, it's a lovely bike to ride and in over 5,000 miles it has performed flawlessly and it is a machine you can trust. It's easy to ride, the gearbox is crisp, the handling is predicable, the brakes are good, and it will give you what you want, performance wise, when you want it without any unpleasant surprises.

Super review. The night riding especially interesting. I've always had Hondas until the current one - Suzuki GSX-S750. Going back to a CBR650 would be a bit of a come down on the power front, but a definite consideration. The reason I switched to naked bikes was because of wrist/neck ache on longer runs... and the reason I switched to Suzuki was the fact I don't like the neo-café design of the CB650R. However, the 750 is going now and there is no replacement on the horizon. The Honda is in a similar price bracket and I can neither afford nor justify a 1000cc bike or the rather lovely Aprilia alternative. Maybe... just maybe.

Thank you for watching. This is in fact the 2020 CBR which is identical to the 2019 model. I am hoping to get the 2021 updated model very soon so I can take that for some tests too. Trident is a different bike tbh. A bit more agile and torquey low down where as the CB and CBR get going higher in the rpm's. In a straight line both the CB and CBR would outpace the Trident but in the twisties I'd say it's a fairly even match with the Trident having an edge in agility and handling. It's very close though in reality. I've not ridden the Aprilia yet so I can't really comment. I imagine it'll be awesome to ride but not so sure it's worth the extra ££ when you could just get a Triumph Street Triple R or RS for similar money.
