The real strengths of the Subaru go far beyond cosmetics.
Admittedly I’ve not driven the new one but all of the things that I deem important from my 2014 model seem to still be there. The Forester is the only one I’d take off road. There are some worthwhile updates in there too such as the wider rear door for bigger loads and improved performance and economy.

I get that ppl lik AEB as a safety feature, but the AEBs in this class work at speeds of less than 50km(only 30km speeds in some cars). The point is u are more likely to stop your car wit the driver applying brakes wit less damage in such speeds than wen u are on the highway speed wher the AEB doesn't work. Guess the top spec in some models get better AEB that work at such speeds. So it's certainly nt a deal breaker to me personally, unless they hav AEB standard in these classes that work at high speeds

The raised belt line on vehicles like the Tuscon/Sportage is for safety. Thats one reason its a IHS safety pick plus 😎. It may lessen rear side view but it helps save lives. Sportage hasnt had its facelift yet either. Im sure the interioir will get the same updates as Tuscon. At least similar.

Sure sounds as if the CRV would have won you all over had it had autonomous braking. The cargo on the CRV is so much bigger so as a mover of people and things it certainly might be worth the safety upgrade. Come on Honda. Australia deserves the entire suite of safety stuff like you do for North America. You guys get screwed over on cars but being a continental sized island with a low population must be why. Really nice work loved seeing it back to back X 5. As a biased top of the range CRV owner, I would like to point out the rear passenger doors open to 90 degrees and this never fails to amaze me as it makes getting stuff very easy. I sure would love the South Korean warranty as that also amazes me. How the heck do they do that is is weird math or superior parts? Maybe you could analyze how they do the warranty as it supermajor. Not having to worry for 7 years as opposed to 3 is huge. Subbing right now.

You're aware that $26000 in the USA is $36000 in Australian dollars? Not to mention that Australian prices include the sales tax (GST), which brings your "$26000" car up to over $39000 in Australian equivalent sticker price.

It's an interesting question, which also occurred to me. Subaru and Toyota cooperate on a number of things. Obviously the BRZ/GT86, also the hybrid system in the new XV is from Toyota. The 2019 RAV4 is on a new "Global Platform" as is the 2019 Forester. Is "Global Platform" a dual Subaru/Toyota effort? No one has said so. 2019 RAV4 and Forester have very similar dimensions, right down to the RAV4 suddenly for the first time even getting almost as much ground clearance as the Forester. I've been thinking a (US) Forester will be my next car early next year (I've driven Legacy's and Outbacks for decades), but the RAV4 hybrid is actually looking very attractive.

I'm sorry but in my opinion the new Subaru Forester is the best vehicle in this test and you guys just absolutely slam it and make anyone watching this video think it's just a whole heap of rubbish essentially. You pick on everything from it's interior styling to comfort to steering, all of which is the best in class hence why it was just awarded DRIVE'S BEST SUV 2018. This review is just pretty disgusting, not just from the Subaru's point of view, but also the Mazda which I would put second here behind the Forester.

They criticized it heavily not on actual tangible features, but rather on how they "felt" about it, something that is completely subjective. I am not saying the Subaru is the best, i think the Honda is a strong competitor, the Hyundai and Kia are not bad, but seriously under powered to the point of being unsafe, and the Mazda does have poor NVH, infotainment starting to date and compromised packaging things that will affect ownership long term and not just in the first couple of weeks.
