      Same. Love my CX5 I bought in 2016. No problems so far.

    I road tested the Hyundai Tucson, Mazda CX5 and Honda CR-V late in 2019. All were taken over my 25km test route that included speed humps, freeway running, coarse surfaces, tram tracks with rough concrete surfaces, and good quality major roads. Three other SUVs were rejected: Kia Sportage (I bumped my head getting in even with the seat in the lowest position), Mitsubishi Outlander and Nissan X-trail -(both getting left behind in features).
    The Tucson was good, lots of features with a good ride, but thrashy engine that wasn't particularly responsive. A nice light coloured interior is available.
    The CX5 was nice and responsive, engine and gearbox combo was good, the interior was nice but very dark, boot space and rear seats a bit cramped, and it also suffered from having a space saver spare (with the dealer quoting an absolutely ridiculous price for a full sized spare). The ride was a little harsh for my poor back, and it really failed on my speed humps (ones I have gone over every working day for the last 12 years). It also failed because of a very pushy salesperson (I hate that!).
    I bought the Honda CR-V, VTi-S as per this comparison. It has a beautiful cushy ride, a responsive engine which is quiet most of the time, only noisy when really pushed. I don't mind the CVT although I don't find it quite as responsive as the one in the Mitsubishi Lancer I had just traded in. I was expecting slightly better fuel consumption than I am currently getting from the Honda, but to be fair, most of my running is my daily commute of 10km each way. The 2.0 litre Lancer was slightly worse.
    I found the video and text review to be quite fair and they pretty well agree with my own findings from those test drives I did. The Mazda was good, the Honda was slightly better, especially for my purposes and physical needs (I'm tall and have arthritis in my back). None of those I looked at and/or tested were perfect ... there's probably no such thing.

    No to CR-V's turbo+CVT. Yes to CX-5's NA+auto.

    I'd take a NA 2.5L with a 6-speed slushbox over a 1.5L turbo with CVT anyday.

    I am in the market right now to get a new vehicle and these are the two I am considering. I currently have a 2016 Honda HR-V, more of a CUV than an SUV, it also as the cvt transmission and I have never had a problem with it. If you are looking at cars and the cvt is your big concern, don't worry about it.

    Screen looks small? You said the Honda has a 7 inch screen, in 2020 the Mazda has a 8 inch screen, if your testing a 2019 then both the cars have the same size screen?? You don't get rear outlets huh?

    When I buy a small size SUV, space was never a problem, I want performance, something compact and enjoyable to drive. If I want space, I would get a medium size SUV.

      all reviews are subjective and based upon individual needs, having said that this review seemed to be leaning towards Honda as if it’s an advertisement for Honda. There are tons of reviews of Toyota vs Honda vs Mazda of the same segment out there that are far more detailed check out this “review” from Throttle House of Toyota Rav 4, Mazda CX-5 and Honda CR-V all 2020 models top trim.

    I had not watched this review when I independently chose the Honda over the Mazda. Important for me is the full size spare in the Honda, and the good cabin storage design. I also like the way the rear seat can fold up to allow carriage of something like a large pot plant behind the front seats.

    I bought the CRV LX after testing both CX5 and the Forester, the Forester is gutless and service costs are very expensive, the CX5 turbo is very powerful but cost significantly more than the CRV and is a lot less spacious which led us to the CRV, which is a wonderful car, comes fully loaded with sunroof leather and everything you can think of, went down to Albany and Bremer Bay and it was a really effortless drive with plenty of power for quick overtakes and very comfortable on bumpy country roads. Went on the dunes in Bremer Bay and it was gliding over them with ease. Overall we`re very happy with the CRV

  • @raunak21m

    Test drove a CR-V but was very disappointed with the CVT. Everything except for the transmission was wonderful but I just couldn't get over the CVT. And has anybody noticed that the gear stick makes a weird hollow sound when changing modes or was it the car I drove?

    • @GoofieNewfie
      @GoofieNewfie 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I agree. The CVT is awful. The shifter placement was a deal breaker for us too. It's just odd. I really don't care if someone can put their purse in the storage where the shifter should be. I want the shifter in the correct location, and the Mazda does that right. The gauge cluster is a bit cartoony in the CRV as well.

    • @fairiesflame1345
      @fairiesflame1345 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah, I probably recommend cars that don't have a CVT. As an engineering student myself, I just can't trust the mechanism of how that transmission is structured. I will probably stick to the torque converter automatic. I'm not sure about DCT though.

  • @fairiesflame1345
    @fairiesflame1345 4 ปีที่แล้ว +8

    I'd probably pick the CX-5. But I understand why the CR-V is the winner in terms of family SUV choice.

  • @makingadifference4834
    @makingadifference4834 4 ปีที่แล้ว +19

    It kills me that many of these reviews only assume FAMILIES buy SUVs. Single people buy them too! A single person would choose the Mazda. Not everybody needs space for 5. Not only that most families only have 1 or 2 kids. If you need more space then buy a bigger SUV.

    I would consider the crv as my next choice for sure

    • @jeffreylynn135
      @jeffreylynn135 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi Patrick. I would mildly disagree with you about the CVT: I had a Mitsubishi Lancer for 9 years, traded in on the Honda CRV, and while I agree the Honda CVT is good, I found the Miitsubishi one a little more responsive. The Honda one is good at keeping the engine revs lower though (the torque band starts at 2000 rpm).
      I can't say I like the drone from CVT equipped cars, but when set up properly, they do work very well, and both Honda and Mitsubishi have got their acts together with theirs (in my opinion). I did like having the manual override in the Lancer with six artificially programmed speeds, just to relieve the boredom on occasions, where Honda has a clunkier override with only two settings.
      Don't get me wrong, I like the CR-V and don't for one minute regret choosing it.

      Haha, yeah really! When I was on the market for a CUV in 2018, I cross-shopped the CX-5 and the CR-V. The CR-V in many ways is not a direct comparison to the CX-5: the CR-V is bigger and way more expensive partially due to getting a lot of bells and whistles that just felt like a gimmick. I ended up going with the CX-5, it was simple in its design, build, and price.

  • @bhill252
    @bhill252 4 ปีที่แล้ว +12

    Nope the Mazda is way quieter and much more solid. And more fun. And classy. And distinct. Who cares if the back seat has slightly less room. CX-5 wins every time .

    • @bartonez123
      @bartonez123 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      The Honda is a LOT quieter on in the inside for sure. The Mazda is more fun to drive granted, but if you're buying a car in this class, practicality is a concern, and the CX-5 is just too small on the inside to compete (it's basically worst in class for that - who wants an SUV with an almost unusable back seat and less boot space than some hatchbacks?). Not to mention Mazda's infotainment is almost Nissan bad at this point and in need of a major update. Mazda's pricing is also pretty poor as well. The only real reason not to buy the CR-V is the potential for Honda to back out of the market in Australia. I'd probably pick neither and go with something else. There are plenty of great options in this segment, and with the CX-5 now being overtaken by so many of them, you're spoiled for choice.
      I ultimately went left field and went for a Kia Cerato GT....more interior space than the CX-5, bigger boot, not to mention a hell of a lot quicker...for 10k less.

    • @f181234
      @f181234 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      B Hill isn’t that the main reason why people are buying these things for more space over a traditional hatchback? If it doesn’t have the space there looking for what’s the point.

    Mazda's seem to always be a bit tighter on the inside than it's competitors. Don't know why that is. It's in every model of theirs. However they always seem to drive better and sportier. Here in U.S.A the CRV sold 379K units last year while the Mazda sold only about 150k units. Don't know why that is though. Honda makes their own CVT transmissions and they are one of the best CVT's out there. If i were younger I would go with the Mazda. But that i'm getting older now, I think i would rather have a softer ride at this stage in my life. But i hate those horizontal rear tail lights.

  • @Mikey_2_Times
    @Mikey_2_Times 3 ปีที่แล้ว +6

    I was debating which of these 2 cars to get and just got a CX 5. Love the car, but admit I wish the backseat had 2-3 more inches of legroom because most of my friends and I are are 6 feet tall and it can get a little tight. I just couldn’t get around to buying a CRV because I genuinely don’t like the way they look. They almost have a mini van eh feeling and I can’t stand those rear taillights. I think the Mazda is one of the most stylish crossovers on the market and gets the job done for my lifestyle

    The review was laughable. Reviewers that consistently ‘reward’ manufacturers for going bigger just aren’t doing their jobs. A class of vehicle is based on size and bursting outside that class should be looked down on not glorified. People go out looking for a small or in this case medium sized SUV and that’s what they should get. If the new Tucson is released at the size of a school bus will you glorify it and say the other ‘mid sized’ SUV’s aren’t cutting it anymore? 🤦🏽‍♂️

    I test drove both and honestly, the Mazda CX-5 feels underpowered and the ride feels unsafe. The CRV is much more comfortable, excellent ride and smooth acceleration. And the style, Mazda designers can't think of any other design, they all look the same. The knob control for infotainment, the designer is stuck in the 80s. Cabin storage, my friend kept complaining that he doesn't know where to put his things in the Cx5. Rear space makes u feel claustrophobic. Please stop comparing these two. The only worthy opponent for the CRV is RAV4.

    We bought the CX5 GT loaded, but non turbo. My Advice, buy the CRV or RAV. Seats are hard and hurt. Ride is rough, steering is too stiff with no real feedback benefit. Space is cramped. Granted the CRV comes with an awful CVT, and the oil dilution issues are real but in Australia you should not see them. RAV 4 hybrid or CRV Hybrid is what we should have gotten. Wife's car so I didn't care. She liked it. I hated the shifter location on the CRV. That Screen on the CRV is really no bigger than the CX5 though. It's mostly blacked out screen.

    I've never understood how Mazda somehow manages to make their cars so cramped on the inside. If you're buying a family car, it's something that gets very tiresome very quick.

  • @geraldsales2324

    Mazda all look the same simple
    Style. No digital speedometer. Just all analog old style. Crv has lots of space and comfy. Thats why i bought crv.

    Non-CVT, non-Turbo, is the better mechanical choice. Don't have problems like oil dilution and CVT failures. Softer suspension wins when the CX-5 has sublime handling? Seems like a poor comparison review.

    Cx5 all the way!! I dont give a fuck how spacious crv is, I love driving cx5 its peppy drive and handles really good more luxurios inside and out its a good looking suv. doesn’t have a cvt trasmission that alone makes the cx5 a winner!! Crv is overrated

    Trent be honest and tell me how much Honda paid you to talk in favour of Honda? given that Honda is brutally struggling to survive in Australia. Mate ! Mazda rules in all aspects and Honda can't match it....fact

    • @riversonthemoon
      @riversonthemoon 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The CX-5 looks better, and probably handles better, but I think Trent made a pretty clear cut case why the Honda is the superior vehicle - storage and ride - which are so much more important for this segment. Unfair to say Honda are paying him. Honda struggling doesn’t really bear on a comparison between these two cars.

    Every review of those mid sized SUV are always funny. People who buy Mazdas aren't even looking at cargo space. Same thing goes around when people looks at hondas, they aren't looking at how it drive. Cvt are the new "minivan" in a boring way. They isolate more the interior so you don't hear that ugly noise. I'm glad mazda aren't so we can hear engine and exhaust sound (mazda still need a axle back to sound good tbh).
    Ps what going on with the gear selection in the crv? Can they put it any higher?

    This review is really a bias because cx5 cabin quality and fit and finish is way ahead than what it is in Crv secondly cx5 is more well insulated than crv on higher speeds and altogether a way more pleasurable to drive cx5 than sluggish crv and especially with that cvt and 1.5 turbo that have aaalot of problems, but definitely crv had a little edge over space but frankly that difference means not at all in the real world

      CRV has more storage space than the CX-5. CRV also has better infotainment, faster 0-60 time, more comfortable over bumps, quieter, more leg room, better safety features, etc.

      @@CommandoMaster 0-60 - 2020 CR-V 1.5T/Hybrid: 7.5s/7.9s, 2020 CX-5 2.5/2.5T : 8.3s/6.4s. Tested cabin noise - 2020 CR-V Touring : 70db, 2020 CX-5 Signature : 70db. 2020 CR-V scored top safety pick by IIHS, while 2020 CX-5 scored higher at top safety pick plus. I’d still say there are no real winners here as the reviewer suggests. It depends on what features you value the most when cross shopping these two SUVs.

    Does this guy have kids as big as him? Why is he in the backseat then? Get a kid and put her in the back. You know you won't be sitting there. Im an adult. I can count on 1 hand how many times ive been in a backseat in the last 15 years. Furthermore when driving around Ive noticed the overwhelming majority of vehicles on the road have 1 occupant in them, the driver.
