      LOL theres ALWAYS going to be a more powerful device in the future!!!! Everythings just going to get better! its how long you want to wait lol ive got rgb10 max 2 thoroughly happy with what it can do and happy to be tied over till something even better and affordable and small comes out thatss not a mini laptop or mini risk..... but im getting that collector voice in me now sayng oooh thats nice!!!!! if its 50$ then im in trouble lol
      rgb10 max2 has the right size.... its similar in size to vita / switch lite has dual symmetrical analogues and stacked shoulders...... theres a few devices out now that beat the power of it.... but for the price when i bought it, it was perfect for 100...... im happy to wait for future devices that match the rgb10max 2 in size and ergonomics, price and beat its power.....
      and with the speed these devices are coming out youre almost spoilt by choice and power and variation! the portable/handheld landscape is crowded as heck and as competitive as ever!!! wonder if sony will do a vita 2 now lol and what nintys next thing will be..... theyve got to compete with retro emulation of their very own legacy titles as well as compete with steamdeck or the aya neos etc
      im predicting prices of new portables from ninty or sony to be 300+ 350+ from now on.... no more 199

      @@Vulpas The Dreamcast is basically more powerful than the PS2, it's definitely not that easy to emulate on low-end SoC. Plus, that thing is meant to be portable, you need a bigger device to add a stick, it's not for the same market as the Retroid Pocket 2+ or the Ayn Odin at all.

    • @ekinteko
      @ekinteko 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Despite that, it has lots of bezel space, and the screen is only 2.4inches size. It's not that much different in size to the PowKiddy V90, Anbernic 280V, PowKiddy RGB20 Mini, Miyoo Mini, GKD Mini Plus, or the new Anbernic RG353VS. But that USD $80 price does make this one easy to skip.
      You would be better off with one of the cheaper devices I listed above. Or even the BittBoy Pocket Go, PowKiddy Q20 Mini, Anbernic 300X, Anbernic RG280M, or PowKiddy RGB10S. These are fairly similar sized devices, coming at lower price and better community support.
      But these are all pocketable devices, so you should just skip all of them and get a very cheap Anbernic RG351p instead. If you want to splurge a bit, there's the Retroid Pocket 3, it's double the price but four times as useful.
      And for the real geeks out there, grab a Used Samsung S10+, 512GB microSD card, and Razer JungleCat. Will do what the capable RP3 can do but with a better screen, longer battery life, and loads more features.

      Pros and cons with screen size.
      At least with this, you won't break the screen if you drop it. Lots of miyoo mini's shattering with the bezel being so thin. Wish it was about 20pct bigger with the select start buttons somewhere else but still has enough of a bezel to protect the screen.

    Well for PSX emulation will be simple button combine wil be the important thing for lack of l2 and r2.
    Here is my personal setup if the company can program it on the psx emu.
    (For L2 and R2 to work quickly just bind the trimui select button as L2 and rhe start button as R2 then using a combination of holding the menu button down plus tapping L1 trigger button will activate PSX select button, then holding menu button plus R1 trigger button will activate psx Start button for pausing in game and all that. Now for the emulator menu to appear for save state and Load state and exit emulator just hold menu button plus L1 and R1 to activate menu)
    And thats my personal setup if the company can update there emulator to do this all the fans can rejoice.

    Thanks Taki, good stuff. I'm also glad you brought up the horizontal miyoo mini at the end. I was just going to buy a horizontal device and glad for this video. I was debating between the powkiddy q90 or the playgo v2. I wanted to stay under about 60/70$ and wanted to stay at ps1 /cps3 or under for consoles. What would your choice be? Or just hold off till the horizontal miyoo mini hits? I'll add that I like the form factor and screen size of the playgo the most. I see an "upgraded" or v2 version on Ali right now in black. I'd love to know you're thoughts

    • @TakiUdon
      @TakiUdon  2 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Q90 would not be in my consideration. It has the same screen tearing issue that I showed in this video, and the processor is not that good for PS1. There's no telling when Miyoo will release their horizontal device (they've been behind on releasing the P60 for 9 months so far), so that leaves you with used RG350 devices or a PlayGo as the best option for under ~$60. Both share the same processor, and I wouldn't pay more than $60 to get a JZ4770 in 2022.
      If you can find one for the advertised price of $60 or less, it might also be worth considering an RK2020. It can do a lot more than what you need, and it's better than the PGv2.

      I fell in love with PocketGo early on and I still think the white finished plastic is the classiest thing on this market looking exactly like Arctic White GBA, just above some of the metal cases like RG280. So I hunted down up to 3 of them for under $99 total with case bundles and other nick nacks, a really good choice. Granted, as complete package Mini is the nicest looking pocketable and needs a bit of care as well.
      3 miYoo originals aren't that much worse in performance, none of the competition really pushed to "actually good" levels like reliable PS1 and Arcade emulation. But on that flipside they already got down the passable perfomance back then, and with swapping SD cards the combined battery life is just crazy levels. To begin with PocketGo eats SO LITTLE of its battery by not having any bells and whistles like wifi. They have some old 50hz mobile phone screen that looks nice with colors and is really sturdy, not that having 3 I would need to worry about breaking one or run out of spare parts. You can tell they really amke an effort on the casing jsut being desigend smart, and avoid a lot of problems like with the PowKiddy plastic matchboxes.
      I had a huge problem with Vita in that I just don't have the heart to bring it ANYWHERE. Pocketgos I take literally EVERYWHERE, the question is how many. If I have time to play an JRPG I might take the time to play a platformer at the same time as well, or run a game side by side in different languages.

And it plays cps3 games and has the best dpad on any chinese console I have ever tested, excep the trsimui model s has an equally good dpad. There is nothing else remotely comparable to this device on the market now or even in the past, unless you count the gameboy micro, which I also have. If I have the space/weight (which is rarely do in my pockets), I would take a ps vita slim or a new 3ds of course, but who has that kind of space/weight allowance in their pockets?

  • @Kyush4
    @Kyush4 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Cool for SNES and some PSX games that don't require the joystick, however you would be better playing GB games on a GB micro, and because of the previously mentioned lack of joystick makes it a suboptimal option for some of the best PSX games (MGS, RE trilogy, Parasite Eve, Parasite Eve 2, GT, FFVIII, FFIX, Dino Crisis 2, Spyro trilogy, Vagrant Story, Chrono Cross, Ape Escape, Crash 2, Crash 3, Wipeout 3...), not to mention that Tekken 3 doesn't work.
    So you have to really love SNES games in this form factor and be okay with having this and a second device for playing joystick supported PSX games.

    I'd like to see Wonder Swan's button layout in a spiritual successor device like these. Basically a second D-pad along side the main D-pad to play vertical orientation games properly. Also horizontal games that have their vertical moments. So far the 8bitdo Lite controller made that possible, but that's not a built in controller thing.

Since it is a pocketable device, would be good to know how it is in the pocket. And the 2 player wifi is a unique feature which would be very good to know about. As would the ability to connect an 8bitdo zero 2 to it via bluetooth and play 2 player games.

    For me this portable missed the opportunity to go full on retro Gameboy design. If one of these portable came with only two A and B buttons, instead of four A, B, C, D, it could make those two buttons bigger like the original Gameboy ones and truly own that 8 bit and lower system feel. With only one L and R shoulder buttons it's not like PlayStation is going to practical anyway, so I think it's a bit of a missed opportunity to nail that low system Gameboy, Master System, and NES feel in the hand.

    • @sboinkthelegday3892
      @sboinkthelegday3892 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, I'm pretty sure it's an exact hardware clone, meaning you can just take the SD card formatted for either and it will work for both Q90 and pocketgo/miyoo original. Powkiddy V90 might also be and that's really popular, in practice it will be compatible with same CFW.
      That's not to say they are "the same company" or that they're different, they just all swim around the funky chinese copyright law. And yes, there IS one, it' s just not the same thing as Google copyright in the West. The "same people" making any of these devices, well, there's 1B of them, they're called The Chinese. So do not go assuming Miyoo Mini or Playgo are compatible.
      Basically all these "companies" are just dropshipping companies like Soulja Boy. They don't ALL pay license like the Sony Phillips license that goes with EVERY DVD sale, they just DO the job. A "company name" like MiYoo exists only for branding, so that it seems to be the same device in the eyes of the buyer. It's basically like being "the company" that makes all the JPG files, it's nonsense. But if you DO make a JPG, obviously it has to open with MS Paint. This is a bit hard to imagine in the West where every IP not owned by google is behind lock and key, and a million ways to forbid ANYONE to create copies without explicit permission. And without usury.

      They made the tearing less, but it is still there. I showed the software "fix" in this video. You can see that it still has screen tearing. It's just less than what it was originally. Watch from 04:07 and compare to the device at 04:25. That is the difference between stock PocketGo firmware and the "fixed" firmware. It's better, but it still tears.

    • @sboinkthelegday3892
      @sboinkthelegday3892 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Can you even get PocketGo anymore? The way these work is the specific build is supplied with old mobile phone screens et cetera, so they're basically limited releases. Of course clones like Q90 will be around adn the support forums will never go away, nor will the aftermarket.
      lol at you tho for going "basically unuseable" and display f-ing Pokemon. What graphic is going to break, the sprite sliding into the battle?
      The whole point is to see manufacturers and the community work with what they've got. It's the same way all GBA games are already not worth playing, because the audio rendering is really terrible on software level and Nintendo made all the devs work with THAT. There's no point praisng pocketgo for graphics or make excuses for it, but I play portable kind of games like Minsh Cap, One Piece Mansion and Shadows Of Mystara FINE on it. Occasionally Megaman X3 and 4, but just being portable is a bigger hindrance than the screen tearing, to choosing those kinds of games in such a hurry I can't even go home and sit down with a nice controller.

    Having seen a gazillion reviews f devices with the same or more power not being able to fluidly play the systems that this can does tend to illustrate how software can often the real Achilles heel to satisfaction. I managed to luck out on handhelds with a $100 second hand GPD XD.
    Idk this little thing in the video doesn't look that appealing to me, for the most part you're restricted to GBA, SNES and anything that came before those.
    Missing buttons for ps1 is a problem. The overall size is awfully small, to the point you're holding the entire thing with only the tips of your fingers. Though I guess that's the charm of the "super tiny" handhelds.
    Dome buttons are something I personally like, DS and 3DS had some clicky buttons and I loved them very much, GPD by comparison uses incredibly soft rubber for the buttons.
    Battery looks tiny, makes me worried about how many hours one can actually get out of it. Though it's not running the super bloated android so it should beat the 3DS' battery life, I'd like to see that tested. At least it being a generic cell means getting a replacement shouldn't be a challenge.
    It having 8gb of internal and not opening that up to the user feels like they have really cheaped out on the nand and did this lock to prevent wear on it.
    And the pricing is also not great, I checked the link while watching the video, $80 discount price with a $100 marked as the original price, the portability really is at a premium here.
    Idk, this needed R2, L2 and maybe 2 more dedicated macro buttons, in my head, at the $100 price point, the emulation device has to be fully capable of ps1.

    Thanks for the video. I love these smaller devices too, but still think there is room for a better pocket device...these are too thick. The old TrimUI for me was closest. Something so thin that could can put in your pocket without noticing. I get why people like the Miyoo Mini, but I hardly ever use it. Too small to want to play at home when I have an RP2+ that is way better and still a good small option. And if I want a device to throw in my pocket, the Miyoo is still thick enough to make me hesitate to always grab it. The older TrimUI/A66 was perfect in this regard, so small I didn't notice it. Unfortunately the quality issues and performance there was bad. Mine broke after a week and some buttons were sticky out of the box. Was really hoping this would be a true successor but they made it way bigger.
