  • FIRST LOOK: This is the all new and first time ever Traverse Z71. This off-road midsize SUV from Chevrolet gets some HUGE changes. This will compete directly with the Nissan Pathfinder Rock Creek Edition, Kia Telluride X-Pro, Hyundai Palisade XRT, Ford Explorer Timberline and Honda Pilot. On the exterior you will discover 18in wheels, off-road tires, skid plates and tow hooks. On the inside is an all new interior. Under the hood is a 2.5L turbocharged inline-4 that is mated to an 8-speed automatic transmission. Is the 2024 Chevrolet Traverse Z71 a BETTER new SUV than a Honda Pilot?

Joe, man I love it! I know the Z71 model in the Traverse is going to literally break the bank. It’s going to easily be beyond $60k. I hope I’m wrong but I’m a huge fan of its brother if I’m not mistaken being the GMC Acadia which I’ve been dead set on getting for a while now but this Z71 Traverse if priced within reason and reach has changed the game! Man I absolutely love it! In fact I’d prefer it over the Tahoe because it’s easier to drive and far more nimble! Do you have any idea roughly as to when you’ll have in hand to hit the throttle real time? One more quick question. The Acadia has the AT4 but from what I’ve researched is just appearance. This is the real entire deal. Will GMC end up offering the Acadia with the refreshed suspension and off-road tires or basically the equivalent? If they do or don’t what do you think? Traverse or Acadia? The Acadia appears to be a tad slimmer and in my mind I’m thinking a more nimble ride and handling. Do you mind letting me know your thoughts if you have the time? My best to you and Lori.

GMC has been 1-upping Chevy on equipment lately, so I expect the Acadia to follow in these footsteps and offer an AT4 and possibly an extreme AT4X option over the Z71. But pricing will be out of reach, and make you wonder why you didn't just get a Tahoe.

  • @derek17005

Still don't know why GM doesn't revive the 3800 and do whatever is necessary to get the emissions right. It was a solid, naturally aspirated NOT direct injected reliable, smooth, and torquey V6. I feel like these manufacturers are asking too much of tiny 4-cylinders to propel 5000lb behemoths down the road.
Say it with me, these large (and they are large) SUVs that are being powered by smaller displacement 4-cylinder engines are not going to have the lifespan that we are seeing out of naturally aspirated engines. The interior is extremely nice though and hats off to GM for it. It's gorgeous.

I can't wait to see the cost. I was sold on the Grand Highlander, but my only
complaint is that Toyota could have done a little more for 60k. The interior of this Chevy is what I except to see on a vehicle in that price range IMo... If the price is right, I might be willing to gamble on the reliability.

The cargo space behind the third row seat is truly class leading! Will this vehicle be available with locking center and rear differentials? Can you also talk more about the all-wheel-drive system in this vehicle? Is there a low range as in the Z 71 pick up trucks and Tahoe/Suburban?

The only thing I’m not crazy about is the tail light design. Column shifter is nice. Hey, 40 to 50 more lb ft of torque over the 3.6. is a good thing. Hard to tell since he didn't go over it. Are the audio controls on the front side of the wheel? Left side is the cruise buttons. Right side I see the phone, heated steering wheel, looks like a screen switch button. No volume controls. It's going to be crowded with the paddle shifters, wiper/headlight stalk and shifter if it's on the backside.
