It truly looked like a brand new bike after the service. 😮
So satisfying to see a well worn bike restored to a good working condition.
Absolutely! Thanks for watching 🧡⚙️
Best bike maintenance channel on TH-cam by a mile.
Much much appreciated thank you🧡⚙️
I remember buying this exact bike in 2015 wasn’t a bad bike
It's always nice to see a well used bike with countless miles behind it being restored to such fantastic condition. I envy some bike owners who buy a bike and get the absolute most out of it for years and years. I'm guilty of changing my bike every two years and I've known people who've owned the same bike for over a decade or more and are still satisfied with it. That's a sign of a good quality bike and also a credit to services like Bikespeeds who ensure these bikes live a long active life.
There is nothing more satisfying than seeing the before and after of a really dirty bike. Great work as always.
We always love to see a dirty bike in for a good video🧡⚙️
The before and after photos are the best part!
We agree lol. Thanks!🧡⚙️
can you show the customers reaction ?
Seeing well used bikes like this make me want to ride my bike more.
That’s what they’re designed for! When you’re out you always wonder why you don’t go out more 🧡
A dirty bike means a well-used bike..clean bike means a perfect bike! thank you for another amazing video!
Exactly! Thanks for watching as always 🧡⚙️
What a transformation…Wow, that’s all I can say…Wow!
Thanks very much Todd!🧡⚙️
Really went from well worn to looking absolutely brand new!
Thanks Mathias for the love as always 🧡⚙️
Super job. I never miss a post
Thanks Bob we appreciate it! That’s what helps the channel grow 🧡⚙️
This bike has really seen some miles, customer must have had a blast when riding the bike again after the service.
Since your channel inspires people to open their own shops or at least get much more involved at home, how about a little shop tour video?
A good workshop usually has a very efficient use of workspace, just like the kitchen in a good restaurant. I'm sure yours looks immaculate.
Great job and bon appétit ;)
We really are a very small operation, we’ve managed to grow far beyond what we thought we would and would love to refit our shop so definitely maybe down the line but we’re really not much bigger than the workshop you see 🧡
That is superior service! Absolutely love your passion for keeping bikes going as long as possible. Nice to know that you (and your customers) value sustainability instead of just throwing things away to buy new.
We wish more people had the mindset of keeping nice things nice it’s a very rewarding process. Thanks for the support Jeff!🧡⚙️
That was a really enjoyable one, I could almost feel my blood pressure going down as I watched it 🙂
Haha us too. Thanks Mal🧡⚙️
Love to see a well-used bike, those jockey wheels look(and must feel) brand new after your detailed work. Thanks to the bike owner for allowing the extra turnaround time for filming. Indeed a Massive difference to the bike 👌👌
Definitely a thanks to the customer we always appreciate them giving us the week to film🧡⚙️
Nice job! I dont miss your videos. Cheers from Brazil.
Thanks Saka!🧡⚙️
I would not dare bringing in a bike this dirty. Show some respect for a mechanic!❤
Looks even better than it did coming off the factory floor. Well done!
We appreciate it!🧡⚙️
Spectacular, great video, many thanks again, Dave
Thank you! We really appreciate it🧡⚙️
Really love how you get the before and after shots so well lined up. Great work Simon
Simon here, thanks very much, I try my absolute best so always nice to hear you guys enjoy the videos 🧡
Great job, love. Hydraulic breaks won't ever go back to mechanicle disk brakes 10/10.
Definitely cable disks are always problematic🧡⚙️
I know the owner was astonished whwn they picked up their bike....another great job guys
WoW you did your usual over the top work getting this bike back. Great video as always and I’m-sure the customer was thrilled.
Thanks Kevin! We appreciate the support always 🧡⚙️
Good work! I actually own a 2012 Scott Aspect 30 with 26 inch wheels and I love it. I won't be switching anytime soon. Cheers from Brazil.
This one will have been up your street then! Thanks for watching 🧡⚙️
Another outstanding transformation! Love when you straighten out the details and pet peeves like the springs on the skews and lining up the tire logo. Also noticed you cleaned the pedals separately this time. Well done as usual.
Thanks Christopher. Next weeks video has a few nice vinyl details you might like 🧡
Such a satisfying job nice proper job😎
It was a full on one this week! Thanks again Murphy 🧡
Looks good as new!
Actually, you have inspired me to open my own bike shop one day 🙏
The seat needed levelling off lol👍🇬🇧
Thank you for another educational video. It's great to watch!
Our pleasure! Thanks Tom🧡⚙️
Lovely vid as always
Much appreciated 🧡⚙️
Much appreciated!🧡⚙️
Great job, that headset press looks very heavy duty.
Thanks Felin it’s a great tool!🧡⚙️
I've recently started watching this channel. I've got to say that you are a fantastic and thorough cycle Mechanic. I used to work in a cycle shop in the late nineties and was also in Mountain biking/cycling. I recently got back into it more often, bought a new bike and started watching lots of things on TH-cam. You are definitely my favourite repair/restoration mechanic. Thank you! 🙂
Wow thanks very much we appreciate it! Enjoy your work!🧡⚙️
@@Bikespeeds You're very welcome.
Top service as always. Thank you Simon and Lee!
Thank you Rodney! We appreciate the support🧡⚙️
Sealed headset bearings are a significant upgrade for mountain bikes, good call. That bicycle must have felt like a brand new one with that drivetrain replacement! Thanks for the consistent video uploads! 🚲🔧
It’ll definitely be a better bearing for the way the bike is used, thanks as always for the love 🧡⚙️
2:03 - and that is why I wanted a full length mudguard on mine even though it will have very little use off road. I want to keep any water/muck off the front derailleur bits.
Definitely mudguards are the absolute way to go🧡
Nice work, it looks like a new bike 😊👍🏻👍🏻
Thanks Magnus 🧡⚙️
8:50 I really like those extra details. Maybe it is better to align the pressure recommendation info with the valve, so when you need to pump you can see the specs more easily. Excellent video! I really like how you organize the syringes, it looks very professional :D
Love watching a good cleanup 😊 It would feel like you were cycling downhill with all that extra resistance gone 😂
Nice simple refresh…
Thanks Greg!🧡⚙️
good job!
Thanks very much!🧡⚙️
Another solid transformation. I’ve noticed over the past few videos you use the term “anti seize” instead of “copper slip”. We all know it’s copper slip 😉😎🇫🇮
If you know you know😉🧡
Bloody marvellous 👏
Thank you Kev!🧡⚙️
Hi as it got to be a specific silicone grease used on the fork Stantions
Great work as usual. I expect you charged a bit extra to return the field back to the farmer! :-)
This bike is partial to some off roading🧡
Hmm with that well ridden bike i would have expected a fork service as well with all the different types of forkes that could have been very interesting. But anyway nice vid!
I run full bearings on my road bike, but otherwise it is worse than shimano original, as debris gets into the bearings, as you demonstrated.
Also I am surprosed a 3x9 29" bike like this one with so much use is still arround!
Also, how does your floor set up look like? Curious to see how yall deal with the water after a heavy wash like this.
I’m sorta used to washing the bike outside, and working on it inside, Never really heavily washed a bike indoors.
We don’t have an outside area available so we actually use very little water. It looks a lot more on the videos than it is. We just mop up after ourselves 🧡⚙️
I know that the bike is for riding, but I wonder how you can neglect your bike so much 🤔
Great work!
This bike was well looked after it had just gone for an off road ride right before being brought in 🧡
I hope you regularly check the torque wrench because those click type torque wrench’s go off spec a lot. I notice you don’t use a spoke protector as well, not sure why. I personnaly hate quick release anything. Too easy for stuff to get stolen and doesn’t help when you get a puncture at all. I also know of someone that went head over heels when their front tire came loose while riding.
Hey! Big fan. One Question though. I heard that you should never use Copper Paste when aluminium is involved due to some chemical reaction that causes some corrosion. What is your take on that? Thanks in advance!
The corrosion is between the steel and aluminium on bikes not the one element of copper on either of those. The copper is actually there to prevent that exact corrosion🧡
Greetings from South Africa gents. Loving the channel and glad I found it. Watching a lot of mtb videos here for education purpose, but absolutely loving the old bike restorations!
I do have a question about the mountain bike services, why do you never do the suspension oil and seals/orings?
Keep up the great work!
Hi! Thanks for watching the videos and enjoying all the content! We do service forks and suspension when we’re asked but in our local area most people just commute on their mountain bikes and simply want them fixed as cheap as possible!🧡⚙️
Would be interested in knowing your back story for your shop or where you learned your profession and skillset.
I grew up working on cars and always loved bikes so I always worked on my own. That ended up leading too the bikespeeds you see in short🧡
Love the video as always. How did you know what size of headset cup you would need. Measure? Standard size?
Also I think that is heal rub on the chainstays. I know that because ALL my bikes have it haha. Thanks again for the amazing videos
It’s very complicated to get the sizing on any bearing without seeing them there are many variants but your local bike shop could tell you if you take them the bearing. Thanks for watching Andrew!🧡⚙️
luv me some well ridden boike. simple as.
A hell lot of work. I just wonder how much it costs to have a complete service of a Scott Aspect. Probably buying a new Aspect is not much more expensive?
What brand hydraulic brake oil did you use on that brake?
Just wondering why you would not pre-clean the bike outside with a high pressure cleaner (not aiming point blank at bearing areas or course)? Any downside doing so?
We don’t have an outside area available it’s a simple answer really lol🧡⚙️
How did you remove the rear derailleur cable on that giant atx im trying to remove the one on mine
The owner will not recognize their bike! Well done.
Thanks Mike!🧡⚙️
Seriously addicted to these videos and channel - great content. I know you're a big fan of the microfibre clothes as I am. I wanted what do you do with the dirty ones, do you chuck them in the washing machine occasionally or do you go through them until ruined and replace? thanks
It’s a mixture. We funnel them from clean to greasy. So after going on a clean frame they’ll go to wiping over components etc and the ones that aren’t to greasy go in the wash but the ones that are just go to the bin. Thanks for the support, glad you’re loving the videos!🧡⚙️
@@Bikespeeds thanks for the great info and good to know 👍
Great video! Mountain bikes are my favorite. I’m wondering what your thoughts are on power washing bikes? Is using a soft brush like you have the better way to go?
A hose off will definitely clean the bike but we’re not a fan of hosing bearings. It will do the job but definitely the brushes go the extra mile 🧡
When changing a worn cassette, do you as a matter of course change out the whole set or is it possible to replace only the sprockets in the cassette that are actually worn out?
It is possible but we personally opt to replace the whole cassette🧡
Makes sense but it's good to know for myself.
Awesome guys, love a good dirty bike cleanup! What do you use to wash the bike with? You say soapy water but is that literally washing up liquid or a bike specific cleaner?
It is just washing up liquid and water, some people use a specific cleaner but it’s always worked for us 🧡
@@Bikespeeds nice one, just didn't want to douse mine in Fairy Liquid then watch the paint fall off or have the bearings turn to dust! And is the big softie brush a Park Tools one?
Easiest brand to work with tubeless conversion and install on tires?
They’re all a fiddle in their different ways! There’s no easy way with tubeless🧡
Hi mate from Netherlands. Truly appreciate your hard work and impeccable eye for detail. Overdelivering imo on each bike.
Question. What made u conclude the bike had a well maintained service life?
Drivetrain seems to be over worn and way beyond service intervals. Do you do fork services too?
No offense to your customer but love to hear from you.
Keep doing this terriffic vids. Cheers.
Great question! Everything we removed felt torqued correctly, a few components were greased that usually aren’t and from the upgraded jockey wheels and fresh pads you can tell that at some point money has been spent on it. We hadn’t seen this bike before but instantly you can tell the budgeted or un-serviced bikes from the just really worn but actually looked after ones 🧡
@@Bikespeeds great stuff m8,I find it really important to wash my MTB after wach ride. i cant ride around on dirty bike haha. Have a great day
Nice video, much appreciated.❤❤
Do you ever open and service sr suntour forks
Nice Video! Where do you get your vinyl sticker from? (For the scratches)
We make these our sleeves and in the coming months will have a website going up to sell them 🧡
Can you get a stem riser for the bars ,i find them too low
I still have my Scott aspect 750 small it still worth
Is there a reason you use regular grease on the headset cups instead of copper paste?*
great job as ususal
Excellent work.
Question: Have you ever painted a frame?
Yes but not for a customer 🧡
I've been wondering why you don't use a fair amount of water to wash the bike, but just spray some washing liquid and wipe the dirt off. Wouldn't a proper wash be a more effective and faster way to wash the bike? However, being careful of places where water must not go.
The " fair amount of water" you're talking about cannot be used inside the shop. Imagine the mess!
I always wonder the same thing. An odd way to remove that much dirt. My guess is they don't have an outside spot with a hose and have to make do.
We don’t have an outside area so this is what works for us🧡⚙️
@@Bikespeeds Understandable, you have to adapt to the circumstances. Thank you for answering.
I hope you charge it triple for how dirty was!
lol we never mind a dirty bike they always make great videos 🧡
Good video mate, but why didn’t you scrub the bike with wash and wax before you took it into your workshop ? It looked pretty dirty,I was just thinking of your nice workshop ! 😂
How much is a service like this costing?
How much does that bike cost brand new?
👍
Thanks James🧡⚙️
What about water to get the soap off of everything
Love the bike design th-cam.com/users/postUgkxHL1v1R3NE5x4KiYfyt8dnQmyNYz7qi5L and functionality. It is hard to align the front tired to center the disk brakes. The brake wheel touches the stationery side of the brake caliper and pad. I aired the tire up to 40 psi as the markings say 40-60psi. Left the house for a few hours and came back to an exploded innertube. All in all it seems to be a good bike. Have not ridden it yet though so that's the max of my knowledge. Update, put a new innertube made sure the tire was set properly and it did the same thing in under 20 minutes as second pic shows.
👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻🙏🏻😊👍🏻
I'll never leave my bike dirty, especially if it's going to a LBS for a service 🥴
We don’t mind it makes for a good video!🧡⚙️
1 week upload :
These videos get started Thursday and finished an hour before they’re uploaded it’s almost impossible to manage one a week! We’d love to do more content but it’s simply not possible 🧡
