    Jaws 2 is a solid sequel, you can never capture the perfection of the first, but it stands up. Jaws the revenge is definitely a bit of a guilty pleasure.

    As horrible as it is, i still stand by the belief Jaws 3 had the most horrific death (even worse than Quint's). To be swallowed whole by a shark and crushed in its jaws is so visceral, claustrophobic, and scary.

    You said it all when you mentioned the main principle binding these movies together: making the same characters go through more shark encounters in every sequel is ridiculous, knowing the original shark dies at the end of Jaws.

    • @davidsavage5630
      @davidsavage5630 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Two crazy shark encounters in a lifetime when you live on an island is not really that implausible. Improbable maybe....but not exactly out of the realm of possibility. I mean....I can't 100% remember but I'm almost positive that Jaws 2 establishes zero connection between that shark and the shark in the first one. It's just another animal. 4 is where it goes to outer space because that one seems to imply that the shark is either a shark who is taking revenge for the previous sharks or its the literal ghost of one of the previous sharks 😂

      If that one shot of the shark's mouth bending wasn't in it, then it would have been better. Not as bad as I once remembered but it's held together by Scheider and Gary. Jaws 3 is much much worse than 4.

    • @SurvivorBri

      It's not a good movie. 1. Over-saturated with characters we couldn't care about. All the kids. I swear in every scene we were introduced to new kids that weren't there previously. 2. The mayor is still an idiot and still does not have Brody's back. 3. There is no way that Amity would be flourishing after the events from the first movie. 4. A shark out for revenge. That's the worst part. The premise is just plain stupid and non-sensical.

    • @KevinJohnson-hy4oc

      Jaws 2 really is a great movie, in my opinion. The only thing really wrong with Jaws 4, when you narrow it down, is the cheesy special effects (which could have been mitigated by blending real shark footage in with the mechanical shark from time to time, like the first three movies did); it's still has strong drama and acting and an interesting story, with likeable characters.

      @@royfr8136completely agree Jaws 3 is awful 4 is okay and not as bad as everyone makes out but 3 is absolutely atrocious However if they were going to make another jaws movie I think they could remake 3 I think the idea was great but execution was dreadful.

    Jaws 3 was the first "horror" movie I ever saw when it first ran on HBO, and then Jaws the Revenge was the first novel I ever read the summer between 4th and 5th grade. I took the material VERY serious at the time, and it's hilarious to go back to. Jaws 3 remains surprisingly watchable despite how awful it is.

    First one is a classic in every right, i still remember seeing it when i was little. The second one was a worthy follow up. For sure its no where near as good, but probably the best they could have made. Three was simply boring, although it had a good premise, decent acting and characters and some good scenes, so its a guilty pleasure. The fourth movie is bonkers, however its also a guilty pleasure. I love the bahamas shots, michael caine and the first kill was one of the saddest in the series. Get over the mystical its actually an enjoyable watch, but embarrassing when compared to the original

    The series did have two spiritual successors in the forms of Beast (1996) and Creature (1998). Both based on other books by Peter Benchley. They're both basically Jaws, but with an octopus and a shark-man hybrid respectively.

    Jaws 3 and "Revenge" are comical because of how bad they are.
    2 is okayish at best but is still watchable.
    Jaws is one of the best movie ever because it has everything. Great actors (Scheider, Shaw and Dreyfus are amazing and complementary to one another), incredible music, beautiful settings and almost no shark because it wasn't working and brought this horror of the unknown à la Hitchcock with incredible suspense.
    I still watch it at least once a year.

  • @MAMoreno
    @MAMoreno 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

    I am sort of a Jaws: The Revenge apologist. Yes, it's quite preposterous, but the absurdity comes from building upon an idea that was already present in Jaws 2.
    - Are we to accept that it's mere coincidence that the second shark begins its eating spree at the site of the first shark's demise?
    - Is it just bad luck that the shark chases after the Brody boys in the third act?
    - And does the movie really want us to take the word of the snooty marine biologist (who, notably, isn't Hooper) over our traumatized protagonist, whose fears are validated over and over again throughout the movie?
    I say that The Revenge is merely taking away Jaws 2's thin claim to plausible deniability. (I'd also point out the nonsensical coincidence that the Brodys were at Sea World during the events of Jaws 3D, but The Revenge admittedly ignores that film when it should embrace it to support the greater thesis that the sharks have a beef with the Brody bunch.)
    And another thing: for all of its faults, The Revenge finds the best balance in producing a sequel to the original.
    - Jaws 2 is practically a remake at times--the most formulaic follow-up possible.
    - Jaws 3D, by contrast, is so unlike the first two that it might as well be a different franchise. Even the basic Brody connection was a last-minute rewrite, and it shows. Dennis Quaid could've just as easily been playing Matt Hooper's younger brother or Mayor Vaughn's nephew, and the film wouldn't be any more or less relevant to the events of prior entries.
    - So in comes The Revenge, which is distinct enough to feel like its own entity (unlike Jaws 2) but connected enough to feel like it's a proper successor to what came before (unlike Jaws 3D).
    Does all of this make The Revenge a good sequel . . . or even a good movie? Of course not. But how else do you make a Jaws 4 after the Jaws 2 and 3 that we got?

    I feel like saying....
    Don't even go there, but the temptation is too great.
    Jaws 2 had a brilliant follow up score by Williams. But Universal could've done something interesting with the Jaws 2's story. Well, Universal had that opportunity with Hancock, but Hollywood never takes a risk, especially when a bankable rubber shark brings in the dosh 💸 💰 🤑

  • @kellinwinslow1988

    It reminds me of the Alien films,or frankly any franchise now that they dug up because they have zero creative ability. A great first film that made you think and wonder with it's mystery. Maybe a good second one. But then it runs it into the ground endlessly trying to copy the nostalgia of the original and falling on its face. Alien Romulus is just like Jaws The Revenge. It's no better. The very idea that the Brody family is haunted by the same family of sharks is just as laughably bad an idea as Ripley's daughter meeting an Alien of finding the original Alien. As usual Hollywood has learned nothing over the years.

    -Jaws 2 was more or less a slasher film on the water with a shark instead of Voorhees or Myers. It benefits from some good scares, John Williams' score, effective cinematography and a gripping performance from a reluctant Roy Scheider
    -Jaws 3D was a bizarre, fascinating and mindless wannabe summer blockbuster that at least had a giant scary mama shark, a disturbing death and a some good atmosphere.
    -Jaws: The Revenge is by far the worst. It definitely killed the franchise, probably for the best.

    Jaws is such a funny franchise lol The shark in 2 was meant to be the female mate of the original Jaws, in The Revenge book they added the voodoo curse element which, in part, helps explain the shark following the family lol Jaws 3D is a fun aberration but the 3-D filming made the film pretty hard to watch in 2-D and look varying degrees of awful on blu ray and 4K

    • @outsideintel
      @outsideintel  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      "Varying degrees of awful" is such a good way to describe Jaws 3D. Most of it looks kinda cheap but passable, then it cuts to a VFX or composited shot and the film quality drops to snuff film levels.
