Hello! I'm glad to see your New video. Why have you been off the air for so long? Very interesting cuisine, interesting combinations of products and flavors. Hong Kong is a city of contrasts! How quickly did you fit into this culture? Greg, you look organic in the frame. I wish prosperity to your channel.
great introduction video to traditional hong kong food places and foods, i cannot fault you on your food choices for the day, oh yeah silky beef cheung fun and chai siu anda sunny side up fried egg on top of white rice (love how the runny egg yolk mixes into the soy sauce rice when you break into the egg)
I really like your man-on-the-street vibe complete with visible lavalier mic, unscripted lines with honest opinions, and outtakes (“…and it’s closed!”) mixed with your higher-than-expected production values like background music and technical wipe-cuts. Bravo!
Since Greg asked how to wash his own dishes in the dim sum restaurant, the correct way is to pour the hot boiling water or left over tea in his small bowl because everything will be sanitize there. I would usually start with the tea cup roll it all around in and out. After that I can finalized rinsing with chopstick and spoon together. Then dump the water into that neon green plastic bowl.
Thank you so much to be a friendly ambassador to recommend great foods to foreign visitors. I believe your efforts really help local restaurants under COVID-19 harsh time...bless you good luck in Chin New Year.
Nice video and interaction with Mandarin, I'm sure you can both easily speak English but was cool to see her practicing her Mandarin! Enjoy your style, look forward to more videos from you!
Hi Greg, pineapple bun should be eaten when the bread is warm and the butter is still cold and firm. You waited too long, the butter had already melted😓
very informative video Greg, maybe as a suggestion for future videos - you can have themes so small family run cafe's for one video and another for where to get the best baked items
4:00 thanks love to hear honest😂 in the old days everything was affordable so no complaints 8:00 washing/heating the utensils while wash the tealeaves before brewing is very logical, always recommend in cold weathers while you cuppa❤
The way you sanitised the utensils is certainly interesting, umm I’m sure you’re supposed to pour the water in your bowl and roll the cup in the bowl of water, then pour water on the chopsticks and you pour the water into the green bowl
You have to try to eat everything in Hong Kong! You don’t want to miss all the delicious foods in Hong Kong! The bakery foods are boom! All the bakery food are delicious! Milk tea is very popular drink in Hong Kong too!
Welcome to Hong Kong, and thank you for your sharing. Glad that you enjoyed the food.☺However, Cha can ting(Putonghua) is usually called Cha Chaan Tang (Cantonese) in Hong Kong. Although both of them are same in written chinese, which is 茶餐廳, it is better to pronouns it Cha Chaan Tang, since Cantonese is the common language in HK.
Hk foods and public transportation very expensive Spend 4 days in hk cost metro fares 200 hkd super expensive for 4 days that include return airport express
For future videos, can you do some unique seafood such as abalone and sea cucumber? On some of the other islands you can pick your own seafood, and the restaurants will cook them for you. You can get abalone congee which is a awesome flavor. In the USA, you can get abalone siu mai dim sum, scallop siu mai and sea cucumber dumplings in the dim sum restaurants. If you can, please show some unique dim sum items in your future videos. The Tim Ho Wan Restaurant in Honolulu, Hawaii have abalone on a half shell as dim sum items which is awesome 🤩. Your Mandarin is excellent. I am so glad to see a Caucasian person speak Mandarin so well.
@@GreginHongKong Thank you! Are you Caucasian since you don’t look Chinese. I assumed you are Caucasian. But, someone asked me in a comment why I think you are Caucasian?
Yup, and there it is. In a previous video, you were struggling to identify some of the items you'd ordered. Two months later, now you're proficient in navigating through the menu like a local...tourist. The steamed chicken rice would have been the highlight of my visit to any Chinese restaurant, but you said it was plain, and nothing special. I was filled with dismay upon hearing this. To me, it's all about the fat from the skin that melts into the rice. (childhood memories of my mom's cooking).
Finally someone say it out loud , cha Shan teh (or how it is supposed to be named ) is just disgusting , the worst of Chinese and English cuisine 😅 I live part time in Hk and will also vlog about cheap broke ass restaurant in Hk but I refuse to go to chashianteh 😅 ( sorry fellow hongkongers) but men … dim sum are the best … I try to find also some Chinese food place with menu changing everyday for less than 60khd…. I feel I have a mission… I am so sad that they closed Goji , that was always my go place for good and healthy meal ( it was a gym club … but just went to the canteen there 😅) Great video 🎉
It's quite a selling point but to most westerners, it's just breakfast. It's more interesting to see him try things like the different dim sum places. He found one of the traditional ones. He ought to try some of the local chains. Like Maxim or Doh Heung. And maybe some of the hotel ones too... Which pushes the dim sum boundaries with new styles etc. Same with some of the noodle places and congee places too... better ingredients and different styles.
I liked your video up until you said you wouldn't call Hong Kong's pineapple bun a pineapple bun, but instead a Hong Kong bun. It sounded disrespectful that you renamed the bun because it did not fit to your liking. Thank you for bringing light to all that Hong Kong has to offer otherwise.

Can you list the names of the restaurants? Thanks 🙏 I want to go to them
Do you have the dimsum shop name ? Watched the video twice , didn't see mention of the name . Thanks
Sure! Ying Dining, Mong Kok

Those look really appetizing, does the second restaurant offer English menu?
I think so, yes!
How often do you use Mandarin here? :)
I love cha tsan tengs! They are one of those unique Hong Kong places that you won't find anywhere else.
since my Cantonese is simply at zero level I try to speak Mandarin wherever I feel it will work better than English
Sanitizing utensils is a kind of custom or etiquette?or just optional act?~please let me know~It would be very helpful
a custom I think:)
