- Chef Lucas Sin is standing on the streets of Kennedy Town at 3 A.M. for an extremely valid reason-Sun Hing, one of Hong Kong’s last operating late night dim sum restaurants, is just opening for business. Join Lucas as he tries a variety of expertly steamed buns, from luxurious and silky custard buns to pork and shrimp filled siu mai-and everything in between.

ABOUT BON APPÉTIT
Bon Appétit is a highly opinionated food brand that wants everyone to love cooking and eating as much as we do. We believe in seasonal produce, properly salted pasta water, and developing recipes that anyone can make at home.
The way this guy talks about food gets me so excited about it. Like I want to book a flight to Hong Kong just to try all this stuff for myself
Me too
Just do it
Lucas got a knack for this. Amazing!
I live on the same street.
Lucky me 😉
or any dimsum place near you
early in the morning everyone else around the table is looking like they're still tryna wake up, staring into blank space
*meanwhile Lucas* : these specific types of amino acids create this symphonic effect
😂
💀
This guy has been holding down the Bon Appetite fort since It's Alive ended.
It's Alive ended???
Was just about to comment how Lucas is carrying bon appetite now
Don't forget the wine guy
i hope BA is paying him better....

Shoutout to Lucas for being an ambassador of Canto culture in the West!
Hong Kong no long has the standing to represent Canto culture, culinary or otherwise.
@@jiaxinxu6845 CCP tourists who defecate on the streets of Europe/HK are better representatives 🤣
He is so correct in both the academic and the colloquial ways, so articulate, and just extraordinary !!!
@@jiaxinxu6845Says the mainlander with the mandarin name
@@hoelessnhomeless says the so-so English-wannabe XiangGang Hillbilly who has no clue that even Michelin is abandoning him and exploring the true culinary market up north.
3:00 You might wonder why he's tapping on the table while the tea is pouring. Having lived in Hong Kong, it's the way they thank the person pouring the tea for them. You pour the tea for your elders / friends before you pour for yourself.
I watch so many food vloggers but noone speaks about food the way Lucas does with detail and history. Often they just stuff their faces and just talk about the taste of what they’re eating. Lucas needs his own food show 👍🏼
I just can’t get enough of this HK series with Lucas! Really do hope this never ends 😂
Dim Sum is like Ice cream. No matter how much you have. You'll always want more.
Lucas is the best host! he is so passionate and makes everything feel so delicious and amazing! Got to try the lava buns when I visit this fall.🤩
I used to go here nearly every week when I studied in HK around 15 years ago. So happy to see them still going strong, many many great memories of it. Had my first (though not last by any means) chicken's feet there, along with many other amazing yum cha I still think about now.
I'd happily watch an hour of Lucas breaking down the different dim sum dishes, since there are so many, and have so much history behind them.
The fact that I know many of the staff of this restaurant shown in this video because I live nearby (Kennedy Town) and I would occasionally visit this dim sum restaurant to have the Siu Mai, beef balls, fried milk etc. gives a special feeling to me.
The best thing that happened was Lucas as the Host of this. His way of explaining the tone and all the choice of words are what made it all 💯
I like how Lucas speaks so fast trying to pack all history, theory and stories of the food he introduce, really feels his passion for HK cusine!
There are also other late night dim sum in Tai Wai, but this is really historical and authentic grass-root dim sum place
Lucas is so talented. Love the way how he explained everything that western audiences can fully appreciate while capturing the essence of the culture. Great videos!
he’s so knowledgeable on everything. the way he talks keeps ur attention and the energy throughout is so infectious. great host honestly shoutout lucas :)
An interesting fact about this place is that its near the University of Hong Kong! Student dormitories normally have hall activities until late night so its a tradition for them to have morning tea “早茶” afterwards! Most HKU students probably has eaten here before 😂
yes! lots of HKU hall residents and post-LKF clubbers here at 3am, followed by the uncles reading newspapers as the sun rises
Was looking for a HKU comment once I saw 3am dim sum lol
Yep! I came here many a time after a night of drinking while studying at HKU!
Can some one twll me the name of the place so I can save it on Google Maps for future travels?
@@okkokooks8897 it’s Sun Hing Restaurant located in Sai Wan, HK
It's very appropriate that Hong Kong food culture takes over Bon Appétit. It's the best food ever.
As a half asian with a Hong Kong mum, yum cha has been a big part of my life!
Absolutely adore listening to Lucas talk about HK watching him eat and cook. Such a great teacher!
OH EM GEE....Lucas is baccckkk!! so excited to see him do another collab w/Bon Appetite
on a side note: he ordered all my favorite dim sum dishes😋😋
So amazing these HK people.. At 3 am they go for dimsum.. And salute for the seller that already senior people but still very energetic making dimsum.. Two thumbs up
❤🤌👏👏👏 Lucas' enthusiasm and able to express, analyze, give history is on another level! Keep him going!!!
Love this series with Lucas. Showing some super cool HK food culture. Every episode has been a must watch!!!!
This channel will go down in food history as one of the best. They're the best at everything they do.
With the cleansing and replacement of the 1st generation of chefs as a weird footnote.
@@garfieldcouch4443yeah, that's why i stopped consistently watching its alive :(
Best at discriminating against minorities too 😂 BA is dead ever since that scandal, but Lucas is singlehandedly keeping this channel alive
More of Lucas. Watched a lot of his stuff. Very well mannered, explains things so simply.
Lucas' passion for showcasing Chinese food is nothing short of inspiring. Keep it up mate!
Lucas is awesome! Makes me want to go to HK and try all those places he has been featuring!
I could listen to him talk about food all day long. He's great for this channel.
I really enjoy to see Luca's video. He always have passions and I can tell he actually enjoy all foods. Not as a food journalist, but as a normal customer like we the normal people.
This is the style of dim sum I love. It's comfort food for me. I don't care at all for the fancy froo froo stuff.
Was recommended this place by a local when I went to Hong Kong couple weeks ago. Can only agree with everything said in the video!! A must visit definitely 💯
cleaning the utensils with boiling tea (not warm) gives me a nostalgia overload I have almost forgotten! Great video Lucas
Thank you for the share! I use to live in Kennedy Town and had no idea this place existed! Will have to try it when I visit HK again...
Amazing amazing series with Lucas, pls never stop!! Or introduce more!! I’ll just eat it up
When lau sa bao are fresh, the filling is approximately 27 million degrees. Do not joke around with that stuff. It is HOT! I have fond memories of burning my face off trying to eat them.
I love this guy, these videos are so cosy feeling, and HK is such a great city with many nooks and corners to hide out at which lends to that feeling. I really yearn to visit HK again
Haven't been excited about BA since the mass exodus but Lucas has renewed my interest. Very engaging!
The fried milk is one of the most amazing dimsum ever. Very feew can cook that well.
Testing dim sum in the 70-80s was surprisingly the Siu Mai, as it was the most elaborate in variety of ingredients & complexity of flavors. IMO, It, Har Gow, Cheng Fun, Char Siu Bao are my testers.
All the dim sum looks so delicious, especially the egg custard boa
Fried milk! OMG, haven't had that in about 35 years. Thanks for the reminder! Great vid to hold me until the next HK trip.
Everyone loves to hear Lucas talk about food!
Lucas does it again……great stuff this
This is the first time I learned that Dim Sum means whatever your heart decides, and I love it! My Chinese teacher just taught us that Dim Sum means snacks which always made me wonder how heart (sum) related to snacks.
thanks Lucas your street eats posts are awesome! more street eats please please please congee wantonmee naicha ngaolammee etc
I used to go there most night when I was living in one of the HKU dorms in Kennedy Town. Best place to go for a late night snack
All the other guys look half asleep or drunk 😂
Omggggg all I want is din sum now!!! I love how you explain things, ahh I love your videos!!! Delicious and so fun to listen to 🎉
Thank you for giving Lucas the spotlight to highlight HK culture!
I LOVE THIS SERIES.
I love Canto culture!
I love love love these sorts of tiny small eateries in HK. Big fancy restaurants are great sometimes, but these little places where everyone's crammed in on tiny round tables and stools is the quintessential HK eating experience.
Lucas is the goat. Hong Kong is amazing
Fantastic narrator, would love to watch more of his cuisine tours!
Finally, A true cantonese foodie. Bravo!!!
Love this series, please keep the content coming!
Been watching Lucas a while - keeps getting better.
I love Hong Kong and really enjoy this type of video.
Captions are entertainment in themselves. Particularly fond of [Host respectfully chuckles] and [Host savoring]
Lucas is a gem
nice job getting this chap bringing in his own version of what real HK life is like
Best series BA's Ever had.
I remember going to this spot after nights out with my classmates while on exchange in HK. The mix of young kids there for an after party snack and oldies getting their breakfast was exhilarating. Super nice spot!
Love Lucas ... planning on dim sum soon, the algorithm is listening
i always thought the utensil washing thing was a societal habit cos of SARS. too many times i was sipping the "free" cups of hot tea at ccts before i realised it was for utensil washing
6:50 fun fact, while this place is "closer to the ground", the nickname of Kennedy Town literally means head in the cloud😂
He just gave me a dream vacation idea
More of this series needed. Make it weekly!
i’m sooooo hungry for this. makes me miss hong kong so much.
Absolutely love this episode!
新興's 流沙包 is a must eat!!! As well as 炸奶
More Lucas PULEASE
More Lucas please
That’s why I simply love HK!
Used go here a few times a week while in HK!
Love these videos❤❤❤❤🎉🎉🎉🎉
Lucas is so great. Loving this content
He is so knowledgeable on everything
It's so cool to have a self serve tea station and self serve dim sum. Wish I had this in NYC
This place is magical!! I love the server yourself style too.
You should have mentioned the finger tapping on the table thing when someone pours you tea - basically a way to say thank you/kowtow. XD That place is indeed great. Nearby in SaiYing Pun on Pok Fu Lam road and 1st Street is "Three Uncles" dim sum joint. A fave of Bourdain. Opened for many decades. The original brother/uncles have recently retired but young gen family members keeping the place going. Three Uncles is not necessarily open to public at 3AM but they're cooking around then and you can get takeout of a bunch of dim sum items if you're nice.
love this series
Lucas is the MVP.
How does one show so much interest for a topic like this guy? I didnt know i liked dumplings since i saw him talk abt it
Lucas is the best!
Cheung fun is my jam. Now I want dim sum.
yo, that egg yolk bun is insane. i normally get that as well in my city, but none are anywhere close to that level
This place is soooo delicious.
Wow. Just so many wow factors. Wow
Was at Sun Hing in July. Very Delicious ! Best to avoid peak hours.
Best dimsum Chicken feet I have had !
thats my family!!! our table is covered!
the finger tapping for pouring tea, classic
Wonder if the washing with warm tea serves purpose - not that they don't know how to wash dishes properly. It warms the cups before you pour tea into it. It also rinses the end of the chopsticks you eat with because who knows which end of the chopsticks are picked when you pull it out of the dispenser or when table is laid. Also when tea is first brought to the table, it is newly brewed and so not strong enough.
If you are helping yourself, who keeps track of what is taken so the bill can be added up or did they trust you to mark the card correctly?
Stunning
I would ❤ to go there. Yum and the tea. Aye...❤❤❤
Can't think of a better way to cap off the night.
Omg. I must be watching too many pimple popping videos because the second I saw the yellow custard oozing out of the bao I thought of a cyst draining. lol! Love your videos.
Lucas you are the best.
Amazing VDO. Made me want to go back.
Yum. My fav kind of bao. Chrysanthemum + Dragon Well tea is my go to.
