  • Apologies for our video screw up earlier this week!
    One of our goals when starting this channel was to try to have more accessible information for beginner/intermediate riders available from pros. Bike set up is very complicated and can be overwhelming but the goal of this video is to simplify it and give new riders tools and information to learn.

    Pro tip for sag on a coil….Use the bump stop as the “o-ring” like you would on a fork

    These bike setup tips really get your brain working. I’ve always been keen on sag and rebound but I’ve never really put much thought into the shock and fork working together, since they are in fact separate entities. Thanks guys and girl!

    Good stuff. I had always just calculated sag as a percent of missing stroke length so I need to check that.

    Hi there, I am 188 cm tall which is between L and XL (Kona) and I have extra long legs and short torso. Always not match with avarage bike size and having problem with this. Recently I got advice that with my long legs (inner leg length 92 cm) I should take longer XL bike maybe put shorter stem but they recommend the best to have higher stack with high rise bars. What do you think? (impossible to test before buy that why it is so important).

    Wouldn’t 22% sag upfront be softer?

    Hey there. Great video. I just bought a longer and heavier 29er bike (its a trek rail ebike) and i have problems doing manuals, which i usually can do on my enduro bike (27.5 wheels). The rail comes with a 50mm stem. Do you think a shorter stem would make manuals easier?

      Not a pro reply but when I switched from the dj (very easy to get up) to a slash (16-17 kgs) I tought it was unmanuable, but it was poor technique.
      But trying out I found that if your technique is already correct dropping your heels while manualling puts a lot of weight on the back, making it easier to mantain it.

    I assume you should measure sag in at least your minimum riding gear then probably kitted up for a full day epic?

  • @TheDavidjakeson

    I've been experimenting with stem length recently. I've been riding a 40 mm stem on my Santa Cruz Megatower since I got the bike in 2019. I dropped to a 35 mm stem and really liked that. Now I'm trying a 32 mm stem. My first ride on it I washed my front wheel on the very first switchback I went around. I'm not sure how I feel about it yet. Going to try it for a while longer.
    Also, is it always winter in your garage???

    • @MGMAlternative
      @MGMAlternative  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Jesse struggled a lot with pushing the front wheel with a 32mm, we would say 35-40mm helps bring you a little more over the front wheel.

      @@MGMAlternative Interesting. That's good to know. I'm going to give it a few more rides, but I think 35 mm might be the sweet spot.

    • @DavidLaburglier
      @DavidLaburglier 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I know this hardly makes sense, but when I went from 40mm to 32mm, it felt weird and similarly hard to get weight over the front right, but then I lowered the stem 5mm and it felt amazing! Who knows, maybe was just a matter of getting used to it, but I feel super comfortable with it now.

    you shouldnt hold your brakes while measuring sag, also compression all the way open, also you should measure your sag with all your riding gear on.....
    And also you forgot to mention you can change your sag a little bit with preload on the spring.... so you technically could get the 31-30% with the same spring weight from 33%
    Quite a lot of information missing in this guide sadly :(
