Mercedes C220 Throttle Body Wiring

  • If your 90's Mercedes has odd idling issues such as surging, too low, too high, or some throttle position sensor error codes, it's very likely the problem is with the throttle body wiring. Within the outer insulation, the individual wires' own insulation falls apart, causing the wires to short together and give you a whole host of issues. This guide is specifically for the C220 (1994 to 1996), other Mercedes will be very similar.

Hi man, thanks for the video. I was able to do this with your instructions. Some wires snapped easily right from the base of the connector pin. Using a blow torch i could easily solder new wires into the pin, the pins come out from the plastic divider easily

Thanks for the new video Pat! I have a 1999 C230K, and have used your videos extensively during the rebuilding process. Along the way I have re-engineered a good portion of the car and doubled the horsepower. It's been quite the adventure. My idle has been a bit on the surge-y side of things, so I'll give the throttle body a good look!

Thanks for watching! Sounds pretty awesome, what modifications did you do?

@@PatsCarGarage Full porting and polishing of the head with a full head rebuild, MLS head gasket, extensive redesign of the cooling and air system, rebuilt the AC, full brake rebuild with SS lines, supercharger clutch delete with a smaller pulley (15psi of boost now), new SS exhaust, and a full interior rebuild with soundproofing. I'm sure I forgot something, lol. I'm in process of installing a remote electric water pump to improve heat exchange between my engine block and the oversized radiator I have installed.

thats how i repaired mines. exactly like you did. except for the hot glue. probably not a good idea in a enqine bay. i would use heat resistant silicone

I repaired loose injector connector pins with hot glue a decade ago, it's still working fine.

Hi, do you have a video of how you test the connection (potentiometer) of each pin? Thank you.

The diagram I posted at the end, the numbers correspond to the numbers on the connector to the main harness.

Hello Pat, the wiring of Mercedes built after 2005 are not suffering from brittle plastic like in this case? 🤔🤔🤔. Mercedes supposedly stop using wiring made with recycle plastic after 2000?. Thanks

I forget the exact year they switched but yes, I don't think they used the biodegradable plastic in 2005.

Can I just confirm the bottom block of 4 pins on the wire diagram. Are the connections(from top), one, two, seven, three. Thanks.

Mine has abit of a surge at idle ,think this may be causing it ?

it's worth a look. You can cut a thin strip out of the outer insulation to see. If it looks good you can just tape it back up with electrical tape.
