This thing is absurd in the best way possible. What a treat to see it out, doing what you built it to do. It's rewarding to watch, so I can't imagine how good those jumps felt in person. Keep it up, I can't wait to see the landspeed car out there breaking a record next.

I knew it would work. With enough engineering, even a Koenigsegg Regera could go off road and do well. I think its just that the Viper is almost as ideal as you can get for a robust supercar to be converted into a rally car, its already prepared largely for having its underpinnings replaced with rally capable components, it just unfortunately doesn't have enough space to add a transfer case or a front differential, but that just means Baja Claws :P

Ahh yes very clever to highlight the Viper series off road scene prop, because I have done my homework on the Viper show's making lol, and recently watched a show about how they made the series and used look- alike props for the show's offroad scenes, because the Viper was too expensive to use like that lol. I immediately seen the resemblance, which is epic btw because that prop looked sooo good lol. I waited years to see a real life off road Viper!

After following the project for so long, it's incredibly cool to see this thing finally tearing up the desert. You've done what all of our inner childs whished we could do and built a proper, real-life, reason-be-damned Hot Wheels car. I half-expected to see flames shooting out of those side-pipes every time you accelerated (that would be a pretty cool addition actually). Looking forward to seeing more of it.
For the steering, I wonder if it might help to build some give into the linkage somewhere. Maybe a cup & pin arrangement with a stack of Belleville washers in the tie rods. Not enough to let the wheels flop around, but just to take a little edge off of the hard hits. Doesn't take much to improve on a completely rigid linkage.

I basically finished the frame so the next step was the drive train. I was looking at possibly $800 in machining splines. Then the Lyme I had been treating in 2015 began to return and I was too sick to work on it. Lyme treatments were making my health go wildly up and down. August 2022 I dismantled the steel frame I made it out of which was mostly 1” square tube perforated steel. I’d love to gather aluminum tube to rebuild the frame but I want to pay off my $9,000 in credit cards.

This video fills me with joy! I once (1980) helped a friend make an off road 1967 Belvedere with a 440. This day would have killed it gloriously. Aloha

ABS or ASA would be ideal for that switch panel. It prints really nicely and would handle the heat.

So awesome to finally see this BEAST on the road / dirt!
It's not as I ever doubted your capabilities to get this thing together - but still I'm hugely impressed by how a stupid idea turned out to be such a great looking and working car.

The car looks great, your narration is fun to listen to, you're very correct about send cut send (and frankly many other companies doing this kind of stuff), and your steering arm brackets amuse me. I too play 3D Part Invaders and delve into the joys of "what snazzy way can I make this so it doesn't die and is actually an elegant, efficient solution." Your steering arms failed...expectedly, but yeah, it's certainly a game of "what force am I even designing for here?!?!" I'm sure it was good enough for a force value that was selected. My nature goes "I want to break the steering arm first, like double shear the bolt or bow the rod" well before the bracket goes. I'd like to make some suspension parts. Funny thing, I look at this kind of stuff and think, "how much force is actually put on this stuff?" And I'm always like 10,000-15,000 lbs? It's never a small number. And then they're running like 5/16" bolt through it (who am I kidding, it's probably metric), and I"m going "that's certainly not big enough."

Long ago we did this thing called " off road" they call it " over land" now. We did this in a sedan known as the " peoples car" . We called it a " Baja bug". And then they gave us the " side by side". All you really need is a skid plate and a contact patch.

Watched it a couple days ago and I liked it. Came back here now to say thank you for changing the thumbnail to be subtly more like the real thing. All not hail the algorithm. In the long long run good creators and content will win. You are on of them ❤

Considerint that Matt actually made a dodge more dodge than dodge (I recall certain solid axle shenanigans), I am confident to announce that this is the most dodge thing to ever dodge in the world of dodge. I love this guy and wouldn't mind test driving his dodge

Ps. also that 4.2 mpg is something that can be fixed right? some bigger wheels and maybe some more throttle input and you can get it to a healthy, environmentally conscious 3,9, can you Matt?
