2:38 Pro Tip for Real Life: if there’s a weapon or shrapnel in someone’s body; DO NOT REMOVE IT. The wound will need cleaning, there could be internal damage that needs surgical repair, and the foreign object is creating internal pressure which reduces bleeding. Let the ER folks handle it.
And the foreign body will almost always cause more damage on the way out -- you could be DOUBLING the original injury!

Yeah, that's what they taught us when I served. When dealing with impalement, don't pull it out. Keep it immobilized and bandage around it to keep from bleeding out.

The editing on that explosion is phenomenal... the main desk is literally just selected and dragged off screen, there's no animation of the desk flying, the person sitting there doesn't react/flop around, just amazing stuff.

Id love to hear a doctor's perspective on what her mobility would actually be like with the glass in her arm still vs out, because yes she'd bleed out, enough people have spread that message, but if it gave her better mobility/use of her arm there would be something to be said for her taking it out to rescue the other person/get herself to safety because the limited time you have before bleeding out is more time than the infinite doom of not being able to potentially escape a burning building.

It's not just the blast wave, it's the the shrapnel too. Shrapnel rips, tears, slices, etc. Very nasty.

5:19 I love the familiarity that's developed between all of the characters. How Severide calls Trudy by her first name instead of referring to her by her rank warms my heart, shows that they're one big family fighting for the good of Chicago through their own professions.
Sad of how she looks at her phone after trying to call mouch and just looking at a picture of her and him like it was the last thing she was gonna see til she heard the firefighter and used all the strength in her voice to call for help because she wanted to live

What kind of parent invades their kids privacy by looking at their phone?

If the parents bought the phone for the kid and is paying the bills that come with the phone then the parents have full reign to look on the kid's phone anytime they want since that phone is theirs or take it away. Now if the kid pays for the phone and the bills with their own money then that is when the parents don't have the right to look onto the phone.
This debate could go so many ways but that is just my option. Your comment does have very good merit on privacy but depending on the issue at hand

Most often it is best to not pull an object from a wound.

I had a "sliver" of metal from an IED stuck in my lower leg, a bit above my boot top. Most of the shrapnel was stopped by my body armor and other PPA, however, I had some minor wounds.
There were only four of us, and we were in danger. We weren't sure how soon other soldiers would get to us. Another NCO suggested I should pull the piece of metal out of my leg, otherwise it might get shoved in deeper.
As it turned out the rest of the patrol, and then the QRF got there in reasonable time. I probably should have left the metal splinter in until I got treated at the BAS (Battalion Aid Station). But in the moment it wasn't clear if I might need to fight back before reinforcements arrived.
It seems that the police Sergeant character assessment was the fragment might do more damage if she left it in while she tried to rescue others, and herself in a burning building. Also, she was probably also partially in Shock.

@@thelucky3866 what they often do is have a dummy in the actors place and have the chest compressions viewed in a way where you can't see it's a dummy, that way the person can do legit chest compressions without breaking someone's ribs, or the real person is wearing a vest underneath.

One furthest away from the explosion, dies on scene. One next nearest is injured but fully mobile. Closest one initially survives the explosion but dies. Got to keep the regulars
I'm currently on season 11 of _Chicago Fire._ Such a blast from the past seeing Gabby and Shay (no pun intended) again! And Trudy just straight up gets blown up. She's racking up so many "badass points", and I haven't even gotten into _Chicago PD_ yet!

I know this is TV, but just saying, if you ever get a nail or other sharp object impaled into your body DO NOT PULL IT OUT! Stabilize the object and DO NOT TOUCH IT until you get to a hospital. While the object is still inside your body it puts pressure on the wound and arteries, slowing or even stopping most of the bleeding. Obviously you're still going to bleed, but if you pull that object out there's nothing stopping the blood from gushing out and you from death unfortunately.
TLDR: If you get stabbed don't take it out or you might die within seconds :)
Just two things, one would a officer know better than to pull out shrapnel? Two would a cop not take out their phone to video a possible last statement while in an ambulance?

what kind of reaction is that to a member of your police department being hit by a bomb, just standing there dumbfounded lmao
Ok, a few things
1) A building that size ABSOLUTELY needs to be sprinklered. Even if its an older building, any renovation they have done to that building would have triggered something that big to come up to fire code.
2) While fire storbes are activated, there is no fire alarm
3) Given the size of that broadcast studio their occupant load would have liekly required 3 or 4 exits out. And those exits are required to be placed remotely from one another so that its impossible to block all the exits without intentionally trying to do so. Without the sprinklers, it shouldnt have been more than 100 feet, illuminated by a battery powered light and sign
4) Speaking of lights, there should be emergency backup light packs on the wall to provide illumination in the event of the fire alarm triggering or blackout.
5) the placement of that office is questionable. Depending on its use and occupancy, it shouldnt be possible for it to exit ONLY into the broadcast studio, as that would break the intervening space requirement
6) Depending on how they classify that studio, its likely that there would need to be a rated partition between the A-1 tv studio and the B office which would make that transfer duct illegal without an automatic smoke damper

I worked in the broadcast industry for four years. One of the main reasons I left was for lack of security.

Many news stations no longer have a crew in the studio. Instead the camera is operated remotely by an outside office. Usually there is only the anchor, and guest in the room.
That reporters face got MESSSED UP. If she survives that her on camera career is probably over with.
Trudy certainly wouldn't blame her husband, Mouch, if he decided to bruise the man who planted the bomb in the TV Studio that injured her and killed the lady who interviewed her, if Mouch got to see him later on.
Mouch would probably use a Halligan or Pulaski on the culprit.
