- Super mario bros wonder is one of if not the best 2D mario game ever made. A Large part of that has to do with the game’s fantastic level design, which is also greatly helped by the game’s wonder flower effects. However, with there being over 70 main levels in this game, some were bound to be better than others, so today I’m going to be ranking every level in super mario bros wonder from the worst to the best!

I can’t imagine the final badge marathon not having checkpoints. They don’t make the level easier, they just remove tedium and respect your time by not forcing you to re-do sections you’ve already mastered just so you can get one more try at the next section. This level would have been unbearable without checkpoints. I’d argue the final invisibility section should have had one too, since the 3 sections before it became muscle memory and only served to waste time before each attempt of the final section.
Couldn't agree more. It may not feel as challenging due to the checkpoints for some, but honestly removing them would have made this level much more annoying to complete if you struggled with any section. I know I needed many attempts to get the Jet Run badge down, since I'd never used it outside of the few mandatory levels.
I got the invisibility section first try
I don't think you're wrong but I personally rather would've done it without checkpoints because I felt like it was too easy even though I died 30 times. It was a bit anti-climactic
I completely agree. I deeply feel that people can become such hypocrites when levels such as Champion’s Road in 3D world where it doesn’t have checkpoints and people complain, but they do a complete 180 on THIS one. I believe that removing the checkpoints would’ve made the level completely torturous. Champion’s Road took me YEARS to beat, and I’m grateful they kept the checkpoints in.
Frankly, I don't mind that there isn't a checkpoint just before the invisibility challenge. Not only are the Jet Run and Spin Jump segments fun, especially when mastered, but it never took too long to get back to the invisibility section once I figured out the Vine section, and having to redo those three sections meant I was never even close to being at risk of a game over thanks to constantly collecting yellow coins.
But screw the invisibility section! The stupid bloomps were 1000% random! They could have had the same challenge with different obstacles whilst removing the random nature and making it actually skill-based!
The fact that the worst level is still good shows how great the game is

fun fact, at the end of King Boo’s opera, he turns into a regular Boo, implying that the non-Luigi’s Mansion King is simply a regular Boo but bigger

19:28 The gimmick is that the enemies and hazards are your light source rather than a danger. You're not supposed to defeat them because they help you navigate the dark!
Super Mario Bros Wonder has Super Mario in it, therefore it is a 10/10 videogame.

I’ll defend the last level having checkpoints simply because its sections are substantially harder than the individual sections of any other final Mario gauntlet.
what do you mean it was one of the easiest final levels from a mario game ever, for example Super Mario Galaxy 2's Perfect Run was wayyy harder than this. If it had no checkpoints it would be better.
@@lentongaming Yeah, I would agree with you, except there's a fundamental, vital difference between The Perfect Run and the badge gauntlet... the former requires basically 100% skill, the latter has a stupid random luck section where you're travelling on a small, moving, bouncy platform where you can't even SEE yourself! Those types of sections are hard enough when you CAN! That last checkpoint is mandatory!

The best level is obviously the last one in the third world, its level design is so wacky, and the boss is very unique!

very surprised about maw maw mouthful, it was one of my favorite levels. i get that you like going through levels fast but the whole point of this one was like a stealth mission, you see the maw maws eating goombas and then you become a goomba that has to avoid them. it was a little slow but that was part of the suspense, i don't think you have to be able to go through a level fast for it to be fun

There's also a great easter egg in Rolling Ball Hall. You can smash the wall to the right that's supposed to be broken by the wonder flower giant ball using elephant mario and a normal spiked ball. The talking flowers will get mad at you and sxold you for not getting the wobder flower first
I think you should rank every boss in mario wonder. Seeing the insane boss count and the crazy creativity going in every boss, it would be a fun video.
With the sheer amount of variety, that video would have to be at least an hour long, maybe two. Could be a great subscriber milestone special.

nah whoever made the invisibility badge the LAST badge of the final final test is pure EVIL. thats the ONLY section of the game ive had trouble on to the point of a game over😭. everything else was a piece of cake
The only bad levels are the hidden block search party ones
After I finish the final final challenge, I wanna try it checkpointless -because I'm a masochist- since I want to see howdifficult it *could've* been.

4:02 If I remember correctly though, this level comes after a really really difficult level, and I think it's a really nice break. As a reward for your patience and persistence in the last level, you get to blast through this one and nothing can stop you!
In Mario maker, you can easily fix autoscrollers. By simply setting it to a faster setting, you can increase the challenge, and even the replay ability of the stage

Honestly this game was so charming snd genuinely a lot of fun. The wonder effects and levels were all pretty unique and enjoyable. Apparently there's many more ideas that weren't in this game which honestly is just wonderful and interesting
9:24 is like… the smoothest, cleanest, buttered up transition i’ve ever seen.
also surprised you didn't talk about in the linking lifts level how you don't actually need to take the slow moving platforms, they're spaced out in such a way that if you're good enough you can just jump on the floating ones to the end of the level rather than using them to make your moving platform longer
My favorite wonder effect is Wubba, so if I see any of the Wubba levels in the lower half I will be upset
Evade the Seeker Bullet Bills is my favorite level mainly because of the wonder effect and music played during said effect. The level without the Wonder Flower is good too!

The battleships endings are a reference to how you beat Bowser in the originals which is pretty cool.

Piranta Plants On Parade is my #1.
And Rolling Ball Hall is #2 just because you can sequence break it, and the Talking Flowers aknowledge it, being frustrated at you doing things wrong. They had to record these voice lines in all the languages, and it's just funny to see them be so frustrated. Plus, just,nyou know, any time a game is self aware of you doing something weird - that's always cooll that attention to detail.
16:41 Thats not actually how you get the coin. Normally, you touch one of those flowers that sprout out and it makes the blue mushroom platform move up. But you can get on it before it moves and thats how your supposed to get it. Hopefully i explained that well i suck at explaining lol.

Cruising with Linking Lifts is one of my favourite levels because of how fun it is to play with the jet run badge, it really feels like it was made for the jet run badge

9:25 in linking platforms you can actually just gun it to the finish by using the little blocks as platforms. I think it's one of the most fun levels in the game

Cool Bowser is slowly becoming the mascot of the channel and I love it
Fun fact about the piranha plant singing levels, the music blocks when you run over them during the wonder effect will go to the song and sounds really cool

The levels in the game are the best in any Mario game and the wonder effects are crazy
Personally, I feel like the reason why Bowser Jr. was used so much was because of New Super Mario Bros. DS where he was the boss of every tower. Maybe Nintendo looked at that as "inspiration" or something. Also gonna be honest here: Jr.'s battles in Wonder are leagues better than NSMBDS.
Just my own personal theory
My theory is that while the koopalings theoretically could have been very creative with the wonder effects, because of just how incredibly different this game is compared to practically every other 2D Mario game, especially if this is the new direction for the franchise, they decided to use Bowser Jr for all of the stages as a sort of 'test' - you know how you'd test how well a product works before you perfect the design and stuff? The wonder effect is the product, Bowser Jr is the bland packaging used to test it, the koopalings should logically be the finished design.
I was actually curious and I did the math and found out the average for each world. Here it is! [higher is better, rounded to the nearest hundrenth]
8th: Shining Falls [59.17, average is on the level of Welcome to the Flower Kingdom]

17:26 Quick correction; I too did it your way and thought that [I] was pretty clever; but in fact all you need to do is jump twice and the hoppip (pal worlds don't sue me) will break the ceiling above and give you room to jump and run under him/her/undefined. But I do appreciate the extra challenge this posed to us veterans at first.
You probably already know this but in the level with the sinking pipe that looks like it would kill you, there’s actually a bulb flower thing that leads you to sink down the pipe to go there. Other than that great video you’re my favorite youtuber
I figured it out not thanks to the flower, but because I knew I was missing something, and realised that that could be a secret. I assumed the flower was just warning me, but when there was nothing else left to try, common sense said 'the pipe might not be a death trap, worst case scenario you just need to do this fairly easy level again', and the gamble paid off.

My favorite soundtrack is the underground theme I love it
for the longest time, i didn’t know that elephant mario could even hold big shells. trying to get that shell up to the pipe (in the angle fish trial) with trunk bouncing is one of the most frustrating things i’ve ever done in a video game.

I did not have the elephant power-up.
Instead, i jumped on one of those snail enemies near the end, and took the shell with me to break the blocks.
It took me about half an hour, but it was worth it.
I hate armads on a roll because it reminds me of how the armadillo won the mob vote instead of the crab

Mario Wonder is a 10/10 because it has Yoshi in it (which is something that quite a lot of 2D and 3D Mario games like NSMBDS & 2, Galaxy 1, and 3D Land/3D World lack for whatever reason). To me, any Mario games that have Yoshi are 10/10s for me

Great list!! I know how you like the challange of platforming so I totally expected the FFTBM to be #1 lol
HOWEVER, I got 2 things to say:
1) The spring jump section can DIE. This was what did the stage so difficult for me and personally it's not the fun type of difficult because it actually limits movement in a chaotic way for me and in an already such a hard level... let's just say my fingers were quite sore. Also I'm a bit biased bc I'm just naturally bad with this badge lol.
2) I'm honestly surprised you didn't mention the (imo) very bad cheesing method of emoting in the Invisibility badge segment. In case you don't know/remember, Pressing A mid level will emote, which on Invisible mode, basically shows where you are. You can spam this as well which means this segment drastically loses difficulty. Personally I'd compare it to Tears of the Kingdom when you can bomb-arrow the targets, which I actually didn't know at the time fortunately and I got similarly bummed when I heard it's a thing.
Maybe I'm just nitpicking haha. Keep on with the great content!!
Yeah, because spamming a button while trying to focus on landing on the bloomps fixes the bullcrap... sorry, but if spamming the button did a darned thing to help, I wouldn't have died so much and it wouldn't have taken me several days to finish due to that one segment!
On my second playthrough of wave right through the magma 2 while the spike meteors were starting to hit the platforms I realized I could just use the drill to stay underground and just wait it out and be invincible to the meteors

idk if i just have wayyy too many hours in mario maker, but i didn’t really struggle too much with the final level. it took me around 100 attempts (give or take) but it was still fun playing and didn’t give me as much trouble as i’ve seen others online and how i was during Perfect Run

The level with the “gnawshers” (not sure how to spell it): the wonder flower could’ve been pretty neat if it had you have to throw red pows at the horde to slow them down, which is what I thought you had to do. But it sucks because they run into the red pows and slow down on their own

The airship bosses are a reference to how robots are slowly taking over society
Honestly, Wonder has the best level designs out of every 2D Mario game. Even the worst or lowest ones are still good. There isn't an single bad level design the game has.

41:03 well, I also didn't know what to do that I got crush multiple times losing lifes (not that its a big deal because I had around 50) until I realize that you have to push the wall.
I just wish it was a bit more clear of what to do but whatever. I mean its a wall...I don't know why would you think pushing a wall would work but it does!!!
I liked the checkpoints in the final final level, but I wish there was one for the Spring Jump badge entirely because I'm awful at that badge and needed more practice with its timing, but otherwise the rest of the level was really fun
Nah, that would have been too many checkpoints. I get it, I completely suck at the wall climb one and could only get past it with the help of online mode (maybe getting past it once or twice without help), but the checkpoints are purposefully spaced apart in such a way that they're supposed to be fair.

@@starranger4104 That makes more sense. I'd say the order, as I maintain the checkpoints are properly spaced. Tbh it would make the most sense if the expert badges were all right after the checkpoints/the first one, as they're the hardest.
