    I think you ran the green thing in the wrong direction. The way you're running it, anything heavy that is trapped behind one of the ribs will be pushed to the outside by the current flow and then has a clean shot all the way out the bottom. If you turn it around 180 degrees, heavy items like gold will be pushed do the middle of the V shape and trapped there.

    • @StoneyCreekSparkchaser
      @StoneyCreekSparkchaser  2 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      Hey Phil! That’s the best thing I’ve heard about running it the wrong way. You’re not the first and I bet won’t be the last :) I didn’t even think of that. You’re right though. I’ll have to give it a shot the other way and see how it does. The reason I put it that way is because I’m my mind the riffles would would better because on the outlet side the riffles have like an edge instead of the other side being more smooth and rounded. So I thought the other way it’ll just roll out. But I think you’re right. Thanks for the comment my friend and I hope you can stay tuned for what I have coming in the future. Be safe my friend :)

      Thank for the comment! And yes, I did try it the other way (part 2 video) and it worked the other way, so yea, it works both ways. And I agree with you on going cheap sometimes. Even though I own some expensive prospecting gear, it's the cheap ones that sometimes work the best. I see too many people investing so much money when they start and when they actually see their returns, they get upset because they put so much money into it to start. Best is to keep it simple and gradually advance your toolkit :) thanks again my friend!

    I use a splash block, except I let the water flow the other direction through it, because the ridges are deeper. I also added extra silicone ridges in between each riffle and small felt pads between that, all which you can find at Home Depot. I’m get’n flakes😎.

    Im inclined to think the green splash guard should be turned around consideing the drsign. Plus due to the grooves shallowness, it should be nearly flat, if not slightly raised at the bottom. Plus, if you cut it right, put some wire mesh on top. You could even experiment with that holely shelf/drawer mat.
    The tote lid with the pockets was a good idea too. The lid handles get damaged over time, so you can probably get them free or tound along roads or the dump. A little diamond wire or punch plate(home made even).

    • @StoneyCreekSparkchaser
      @StoneyCreekSparkchaser  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you so much William and yes, you are absolutely correct. Even though it’s not true some of the time, but most “prospectors” make their living off selling equipment and paydirt. It’s big business! And those two pieces of equipment (even though they need work and not super effective) anyone can make for basically zero dollars and catch gold. Gravity is your friend and as long as you keep that in mind, gold can be caught basically using anything. Thanks again for the kind comment and support! Really appreciate you William!

    You might want to try running the gutter splash pad the other way, so that the chevrons force the gold toward the center. I use Lowes ridged carpet covered front door mats to catch gold and have been told one of their textured rubber runners is an excellent gold catcher. Have fun...

    When you study gold crystals they are called dodecahedron and if you look at it a very fine piece of gold underneath the microscope you can see the jagged edges of the gold Crystal most of the time unless it's been River tumbled and it's really smooth. And what got me started on the black sand adhesive is my sluice box kept blowing out gold and black Sands when I did the adhesive and the Black Sands I caught more gold I caught more black sand the rough Sandy Bottom of the sluice box gave it something to hang up on microscopically rather than just slick.
    longer the headbox, the better. And another hack is making different size drops for your riffles and spaces between the riffles like 321 three riffles a space two riffles space and one riffle back to three to one at different heights to give the suspension and the gravity drop time to work as the water is washing your material through the box. Most of my information I got I got from a Heckla mining engineer by the name of Jim Lavoe. He was showing me how to liquefy gold with chemicals and he was a three pack a day camel straight cigarette smoker while he was teaching me the essay processes he died was unable to show me how to reconstitute the liquid gold into a solid but I assume heat would do it but I never did that anymore I never never went back to learn how to reconstitute liquidized gold. Yeah this is of interesting subject and I'm over 70 now and I don't get out much.

    Interesting test. Two ideas for you. 1. A dollar store boot tray with dollar store ribbed carpet makes a very effective sluice. 2. As another commenter suggested - cut 3 or 4 feet of corrugated drain pipe in half horizontally (non-perforated). Run 2 of these 3 or 4 footers beside each other in parallel and you have a legitimate double 'poop tube' sluice that will rival anything out there in terms of speed and capture and weight. As one is processing material you shovel into the other. Easy clean out into a bucket, and easy transport in the bucket. Also ultra light and compact with no gold lost in a carpet. Have fun!

    I think you should have left one short edge on the yellow one to catch the fine stuff either by making the water flow over it at the beginning or providing a last large riffle before the water exits the lid. A lot may have washed away. Have you tried the fake grass?

    • @StoneyCreekSparkchaser
      @StoneyCreekSparkchaser  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks Garras for the comment and support! You may be on to something with that extra short edge. I’m sure I lost something. I just wanted to show that we don’t need to spend hundreds of dollars to find gold :) As for the grass, do you mean miners moss or that artificial turf? I’ve used both before but in actual products that are made for sluices. Both work well and could be applied to almost any sluice design to help catch find gold. it seems to me that the green one is backwards, in stead of the vee catching the gold it allows the gold to move to the outside edge, and correct me if I’m wrong it looks like there’s an open space about a 1/4” inch wide between the side and the edge of the riffles where material can escape. 😮

    • @StoneyCreekSparkchaser
      @StoneyCreekSparkchaser  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Hey Clint! You're not wrong my friend. It does have a 1/4" gap along the sides so gold can migrate right out. As for running it backwards, I did a follow up video because a lot of people said the same thing. I got the same results running it either way. What you can't see in the video with how I ran it, those riffles actually have a flat drop off. So material collects more in this orientation, rather than the other way. Either way, it does work! Thanks again for the comment and support Clint! Super appreciate you :)

    • @StoneyCreekSparkchaser
      @StoneyCreekSparkchaser  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Hey Clint :) I may of not typed my message clearly. You're right and you definitely don't want the good to migrate down. You want it to hide behind the riffle and you're absolutely right that it could go to the sides and move out of the sluice. That's what I was trying to say. I was trying to be careful with putting it in the middle so it wouldn't do that :) Sorry if I confused you my man. It happens, but you're right 👍

      Hey Kevin, yea man, I think you’re right. Others have said the same thing. I did it that way because “I thought” and that’s what gets me in trouble sometimes, haha, that the riffles going the other way (the way you suggested) wouldn’t work as well because they were more rounded on that edge. The way I used it there’s sort of a sharp edge that I thought gold would get cause easier. All in all it worked and I do plan on taking it out and trying it the other way. Thanks for the comment my friend and I appreciate you checking out the video 😎

    Anything with something that resembles a riffle will catch gold. The real secret is that the gold needs to be there in the first place. And secondly , the set up of your "sluice" needs to be correct with the right drop & water flow. Too much of both & bye bye to that fine gold. Just got to get it right. The bigger gold will just sit there. But that is most likely we'll gone.

    • @StoneyCreekSparkchaser
      @StoneyCreekSparkchaser  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      For sure John. I still don’t get it right with my sluice set up, but using dream may I find it much more forgiving and I can not be so precise. But like you said… biggest thing is being where the gold is, without that, it’s a fruitless adventure. Appreciate the support John!

    • @JohnWilson-cs7iq
      @JohnWilson-cs7iq ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@StoneyCreekSparkchaser That fine gold the sluice set up is so important. Classifying is a big help as the smaller material that goes down the box doesn't need an aggressive angle on the box or strong water flow as there are no bigger stones to wash on through. That is a recipe for washing the fine gold right out of the box. The slower the water the better for fine gold recovery. Just enough flow & angle to keep the unwanted material moving on down the box. A bit of ribbed rubber matting stuck in at the head of the box where you dump your material will show up any bits of gold & it will often just get stuck right there. Little suckered bottle will gather it up if you don't want to risk it getting on down the box. But if your water flow isn't too much it shouldn't get lost. Good luck out there. John from New Zealand :)

      I hear ya Michigan… I goofed on that. I can say with a fair amount of certainty, that the amount of gold I got from both of those “tests” (if you can even call them that) Is about average of what I find per shovel full. I’m certain some flour gold escaped but also certain that I got most of it if you know what I mean. I’ve had a lot of comments on that and I’m planning on doing some small
