    I made one of these splash block sluices , painted it the same , but i also found a piece of flexible ,plastic gutter cover , about 6" wide that has 2 layers. The top is like a hardware cloth pattern with a black plastic screen beneath it . I guerilla glued a piece , same length as the " sluice" to the narrow end . It works well as a "classifier" . It will tend to fill up a bit unless you raise/separate the sections just slightly ... I keep this in my toolbox in my truck ... Now im never withiut a sluice . It works well enough to test areas that i may want to revisit later ....

    Home depot-4'- of corrugated drain pipe 4" or 6" diameter cut in half, something attached to make it rigid. It doesn't miss gold unless over run. They call it a gutter sluice.

    • @StoneyCreekSparkchaser
      @StoneyCreekSparkchaser  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hey James! Thanks for coming by and yea I’ve seen that a few times and seems to be a really solid and effective sluice. I actually did a video with something similar (I called it the Jeff Martin Sluice). That sluice kinda of had the same principles but it was kind of hard to run material throughout because of how small it is. I do want to try and gutter sluice out. It’s seems like a fun build. Maybe this winter I’ll try one out. Thank again for stopping by my friend. Welcome to the channel and I hope you have a great Thanksgiving :)

      Much love Gold Hunter 77! Thanks for noticing that an appreciating it. You know very well how hard some of these are to make and we go through countless hours of filming and editing just to produce 5-10 minutes of video. We’re both still very very new to this and I bet with another year or so we’ll be producing even better content. As one creator once told me… “strive for a 1% improvement on every new video.” I live by that now and it keeps me motivated. Oh and I never worry if a video does bad and flops. If it does, then it was meant to be. So thanks again Gold Hunter 77. Your comment meant the world to me today. Keep being great and keep up the great work! You’re blasting up there!!!

      Another tip for the splash block. A lot of material will flow past the riffles to the sides . You can extend the riffles with silicone or block the sides by gleuing a piece of wood or something like that between the riffles and the sides.

    Great videos... I'm constantly experimenting with different things from home depot, walmart and the the door stores...
    You should bolt some small aluminum stock to the underside of your lid and splash block... Like 'L' brackets that have 3"-6" feet sticking down or 'C' brackets that you can set something on to help hold them place... Or just use a couple of those hidden gutter hangers...

    Well on the first run of the plash thing, the consentrates were off to one side which probably affected the capture rate.
    Id go with any lid or whatever that has similar pockets in it.

    • @StoneyCreekSparkchaser
      @StoneyCreekSparkchaser  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Exactly! Almost anything flat with grooves can capture gold. If I do this next time, I actually want to make a DIY sluice with a bit more ingenuity and not just the product. If I know one thing… gold can be captured in just about anything :) thanks again!

      @@StoneyCreekSparkchaser, FYI, I seen Dave Turin's new show "American Backyard Gold". One guy laid a tarp in a small creek/rivulet and put flat rocks all over it, then shoveled gravel onto it. He got a nice amount of gold.
      Got me thinking. Groom a slope in the creek, pin the top corners, roll the tarp out a bit and lay the flat rocks in a row, stagger the next row in between the top one to form a triangle pattern and so on. Maybe even give the tarp an undulating up down pattern as well, then wing dam it to get a decent flow of water.
      Thought, in a pinch, and it was a good idea for low flow areas where even a small sluice wouldn't work so well but test pans show a decent amount of gold if you needed to sell some.

Fun little projects non the less. I actually use the splash guard quite often to clean up my panned concentrates. Works pretty good for something that is so cheap. Others have commented as well on adding a bead of silicone to both sides to avoid cons going down the sides where there is no riffles. I haven’t done that yet but it’s in the works. @@StoneyCreekSparkchaser Glad to see you never slammed the door in my face.
      I just can't see why you spend time using a dustpan lid for prospecting when you have a rolls royce of a sluice.
      I mean surely nobody gonna go out and by a dustpan lid of they interested in gold.
      You make the tape worth watching , but heck , do tapes about stuff that will be useful to many people.

      I’d never slam a door in your face man! I’m a big boy and value your opinion! And yea, I use my Keene and Bazooka all the time and get great results. I guess I was just trying to show people that you can really catch gold with anything. Experiment with things and most importantly have fun. I mean, you may of even learning something. I did from your video. For years and years when grabbing a sluice out of the creek I’d always grab the top first and pull up while having the bottom in a bucket. Now I do the opposite, just because you told me in one of your videos how to do it the proper way. I appreciate that my man! Didn’t lose any gold!

    Lay down 50 square feet of carpet across the creek and then collect it next year

      @@StoneyCreekSparkchaser hell no...
      People do it though, not with carpet but what's called illegal ground sluices...
      You can hide them on small gold bearing tributaries.. forget about them then come back for it one day... Getting caught is practically impossible... The funny part is because it's illegal, if you find one you are allowed to remove it and take the gold... Just say you have a split personality, one put it there and the other collected it

    • @EvanGrunwald-x2r
      @EvanGrunwald-x2r 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      No, I haven't done anything illegal ever... Not even a tote lid.. witch is illegal. Just pan and shovel.... But Dan Hurd has a video on illegal ground sluices... They are hidden in spots that may go unchecked... In one video Dan finds one hidden on a very small tributary of a gold creek, and the sluice is made of heavy metal, more like a square sewer grate.. and it was about 4 or 5 feet wide and the tributary was almost completely covered on the bottom that's how small the stream was.. and it's obviously illegal.. but if you find one you can remove the grate and gold
      just like how Dan does in the video.. laying the grate takes 5 seconds, retrieving it takes a long time... so it's kind of ironic that you could in theory both lay and collect without getting caught... lol just a thought...

    just curious why you are limiting the gold you find down to 1/16 this is such a small size. the material i run through my trommel goes through a 1/4 inch screen. anyone serious about looking for gold would not use a 1/16 screen, you are losing so much gold this way.

    • @StoneyCreekSparkchaser
      @StoneyCreekSparkchaser  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Zemetrius! Hey what’s up?!?! Great question and I have an answer for you. First thing, if I said that I’m using a 1/16th classifier I was wrong and misspoke. I only ever used an 1/8th classifier. The area where I most prospect is right in front of my house (where this is filmed).
      The gold I find here is 99.9% flood gold which in my case is flour gold and easily goes through an 1/8 inch classifier. I’ve only ever found one “feeler” and it easily went through my classifier.
      Now having said that, I just start using my 1/2 classifier with my 1/4 classifier. Reason being, I just started getting down to deeper material and don’t want to “miss” my chances of finding bigger gold, but like I said, it’s 99.9% fitting through a 1/8th classifier.
      Also, rest assured, when I go somewhere new or to other places I know that have big gold, I use my 1/4 to 1/2 classifier to run my material.
      Anyhow, that’s why reasoning and my answers. Thanks for the comment and I’m hoping you’re having a great day and you’re striking it rich! Stoney

      Hey David! Thanks for the comments and support and yes, a lot of this stuff can be overpriced. From doing this for so long, the real money is made by selling equip, and not really in finding the gold. Not to say that’s the case for everyone out there, but it is for most. It’s still fun non the less and it gets you outside! As for your Walmart suggestions… isn’t that cool? I often find myself walking through stores and thinking to my self… that could work! Lol
