*HEY* Not as much to say here (just know that when I said "Alucard is not that interesting", I'm exclusively referring to a vs standpoint. @@Sub-Zero-im7km I'm assuming that Hellsing Ultimate is like FMA Brotherhood where it's a remake of the of anime series that's much more faithful to the manga?
Hell yeah, gimme some more bragging rights, baby! Anyway, this was a pretty nice retrospective of Season 8! This is _definitely_ the season that, in my opinion, kickstarted the current Golden Age of Death Battle, especially with its highs. Yeah, it's not perfect, but we got stuff like DIOcard, Saitama vs Popeye, and Link vs Cloud 2....'s fight, which are some of my personal favorite episode's of the show. Can't wait to see what you have to say for Season 9, even if it kinda dropped the ball a little in its final quarter outside of Sauron vs Lich King...
46:08 - Wha-? No it doesn't? At least, not to me? It’s the scream of her being impaled by a big rod shooting hot stuff inside- OH DEAR LORD, WHY DID YOU DO THIS TO ME
I wouldn't say gianni was miscast moreso misdirected. I definitely feel like he could have done a good shao kahn, the direction just had him using a fairly normal voice
Haven’t even watched the video yet besides watching the premiere for a little bit, but HOLY SHIT. Your ability to consistently produce multi hour long video reviews on a nearly monthly basis is fucking astonishing. Take the day, or week… or year, off because you’ve earned it man. Edit 42:42 nvm there is one typo in a text wall, disguis is not a word, 0/10
So, do you know how long it’s going to be before your season 10 reviews? I don’t mean to be rude, I’ve just avoided all reviews and waited for yours because they’re unique and funny
I think Mickey was just confused on what Yoda was saying, but at the same time, he understands what he means, Mickeys next line is pretty friendly and its not all too bad.
1:04:15 You really calling this your hottest take of the video when you gave Blake vs Mikasa a lower score than even Metal Sonic vs Zero, called Tai Lung the worst Kung Fu Panda antagonist, and SAID HOLLOW DREAMS WAS OVERRATED?! But seriously, before season 10, this was my favorite favorite season of Death Battle. It got me back into watching the show after season 7 felt underwhelming to me at the time, and I have been a huge fan of the show ever since. Sure, it has it's fair share bad moments (I legit think Akumakhan is worse than Batgwen), but the highs are super high. Episodes such as Goku Black vs Reverse Flash, Dio vs Alucard, and Saitama vs Popeye have become some of my all time favorite episodes, and it includes some other episodes that I really love like Lex vs Doom, Link vs Cloud 2021, and Madara vs Aizen. This is also the season where I've started knowing about the community behind it and getting to know youtubers such as Nem and Biff. For those reasons, I'll always love season 8. Excellent video Jonathan, can't wait to hear your thoughts on season 9. BUT COME ON, HOLLOW DREAMS IS PEAK! HOW COULD YOU NOT LOVE IT?!
Now where have I heard that one before… Edit: Okay, just to be clear, this is my way of saying "I don't find this funny, and I feel like I've seen this a million times."
This 10-years-anniversary season represents the entire show well in terms of quality and consistency imo. A lot of good, a decent portion of great and a bit of bad and mediocre. GREAT RANKING!
I honestly kinda hate the Alucard should have won because Schrödinger argument. This is because Schrödinger Alucard is literally featless. All of Alucard's abilities that he used for his earlier feats can not be used with Schrödinger and the people who make this argument also just asume that Schrödinger is gives him a victory even tho Schrödinger Alucard can't do shit to Dio. One guy made an argument that Alucard can just teleport Dio to the sun because Schrödinger, but that's not how Schrödingers powers even work in Hellsing. Schrödinger has never shown the ability to transport others just himself
It doesn't just boil down to that though, its more so DB got a few things wrong (and when ya learn it was written by a DIo fanboy, its pretty hard not to call bias). Like that Schrodinger does NOT get rid of all of Alucards abilities, only the stuff that stems from souls, which they didnt even use in the fight other than the Hound of Baskerville. Also the fact that Alucards regeneration stemming from the amount of souls he consumed is also pretty much just a fan theory considering how Alucard still regenerates from multiple fatal wounds over and over again whilst in Level 0. That guy sayin the teleport other people shiz is just trippin ima be real tho
@@dealtanace Because he had his heart he was still able to regen. Also the creator confirmed that he loses everything with Schrödinger. Alucard can't hurt or even hit Dio too
@@debater452 if ya can point me to where Hirano said that Schrodinger makes Alucard lose everything, id love to see that. I aint here to debate whether or not Alucard could hit Dio, just here to say why so many have issues with Alucards Schrodinger being taken away and the altogether analysis of the two characters.
I think Blake VS Mikasa is better than Akuma VS Shao Kahn for the following reasons, and BTW, I'm putting my personal bias aside for this. - Blake VS Mikasa did have cringey analysis moments, but honestly, they only got bad when they got to Mikasa. Blake's had some parts that made me smile and even laugh a bit, like the nicknames they gave Adam or the Wizard clones bit, which is a bit more than what I could say for Akuma VS Shao Kahn, which is nothing at all good or bad. The Shao Kahn voice bit was alright though. - The animation in Blake VS Mikasa was choppy at times, but in a post-The Last Wish world, I kinda grew to appreciate lower frames, even if that wasn't a stylistic choice in Blake VS Mikasa, it was likely just a result of Torrian needing to animate fast flying characters. Akuma VS Shao Kahn's animation looks goofy and janky most of the time. Blake VS Mikasa has those moments too, but they're less easier to notice, at least for me, and they're mostly in the facial expressions. And keep in mind that Blake VS Mikasa has a lower frame rate. - I actually kinda grew to genuinely like Blake VS Mikasa's animation. It had flaws, but it was lively, there was a lot of moving and action going on, which is expected, considering the combatants. Not a point against Akuma VS Shao Kahn, just an update. - The death in Blake VS Mikasa was actually cool. How do you manage that? How does the killing themed Shao Kahn have a less cool finisher than Blake Belladonna? - Blake VS Mikasa actually takes place in a familiar and cool location that takes advantage of both combatant's abilities. Shao Kahn VS Akuma is in the middle of Dry Dry Desert (or Jade's Desert, whatever), but more boring and generic. They could've been in the M. Bison stage, the Outworld Colosseum, the rooftop from the end of MK9, just, SOMETHING that fits the theme for either characters. If Blake VS Mikasa's location was written like Akuma VS Shao Kahn, it would've taken place in the RWBY Atlas training center or the a random forest or plains from Attack on Titan, but even those would've been better than tournament in the deserted desert. - A more neutral point, yes, it sucks that Blake didn't have lines while Akuma and Shao did get lines, I guess Arryn was just busy or something. But then again though, Blake and Mikasa are known for not being very social, so I guess it kinda works. - I will say one thing that Akuma VS Shao Kahn did better than Blake VS Mikasa was the characterization, but not really for being good, just making less mistakes. Blake VS Mikasa really should've just started with the two already fighting. Follow Weiss' example, Blake! She actually got a good ranking in these videos! - Thunder Shroud is actually a good song, Satsuo No Sekai is just a background song, and nothing more. All I remember from Satsuo No Sekai was the vague Mortal Kombat rendition towards the end when Shao is about to kill Akuma. - As for why Torrian animated Blake VS Mikasa, I think it was because only he could implement the fast action RWBY and Attack on Titan styled animations without it looking too weird. His animations for past episodes like Yang VS Tifa or Weiss VS Mitsuru had shown he was capable of that animation style, seriously, why did he get scouted for gen:lock, and not RWBY? As seen with Blender animations, the sword swings usually look a bit more like flailing when done fast and I just feel like they're less fluid than RWBY's style (look, Link VS Cloud this season was a banger, but what was that bit of Cloud trying to his that fairy Link?). Also, I don't know if the Blender team was able to do motion capture. You know, the whole appeal of RWBY's animation? But maybe I'm wrong, I don't really know how the Blender team did the animations in this season. So that was me comparing peak Death Battle to the worst Death Battle, you're welcome.
It's a shame I ended up missing out the premiere thanks to my internet acting rather unfriendly by the time it started, but overall that was a really solid retrospective, a great video even Funnily enough tho, when looking at the ranking of each episode it's not too dissimilar to how you ranked the likes of S2 and S5 with it's high and low points and it makes me realizes how S8 could be seen as the modern equivalent to S2 (or spiritual successor, idk). At least to me, ig Regardless, I cannot wait until we get to the S9 and especially S10 retrospectives next year, and possibly even any non-DB content in the near future too so, I'm definitely looking forward to all of it
This was my favorite season before season 10 stole that spot just past halfway so I was definitely looking forward to this. All of these videos feel like events, good job dude!
44:05 Okay, real late to this so you probably already heard or saw from somewhere else, but I'll comment just to engage the algorithm anyway. Her swords are breaking all the time because the blades are designed much like snap off/replacable utility blades. Her swords need to be incredibly sharp to fight titans and dull quickly, so the blades are made to be quickly disposable so freshly sharpened sets can be in constant use.
Okay just to get it out of the way , my enjoyment is not determined by who won or lost (although it might influence it a bit) , instead it is determined by how good the episode itself is , which MadaravsAizen is a very well made one that I enjoyed very much when I first watched it , however I couldn't help but have my opinion slightly soured on it when I learned the refused to give Aizen the Hougyoku and didn't use the light novels while Madara got the benefit of the doubt on everything (I wouldn't even have a problem with it if Aizen didn'tget shafted), still a good fight and episode , 6/10 , just can't help but feel it was unfair
I get it, man. I feel like I've been consistent enough with calling out Death Battle for compositing one character but not the other (even though this isn't quite like those other cases but still), but with this one I didn't recognize it because of my lack of familiarity with their home series. I did hear about this on the grapevine, though.
@@JonathanFrostathan People were mega salty because they didn't use Aizen's abilities properly; And it didn't helo that in the q&a it was because the power is "too vague". Not to mention not using much of the literal 99 Hados (Where there are actually detailed explanation of what every Hado does); Not including sub variants of every hado, and Aizen is a master at all of them. Eventhough, it's a simple ability; It's just the same evolution things like Doomsday. Also the whole dying from soul destroying attack; As every attack from Bleach is a soul destroying attack, as well... they're literally all souls lol. Basically, it's mostly them shafting most of Aizen's abilities; So I can understand why people are miffed about it.
The Hogyoku was given to Aizen. They just didn't think it helped him win. And the light novels for Bleach were considered. They just personally did not think that Aizen won. I'm not defending the episode's result but I will say that the researchers always try to look into anything they can and come to a certain conclusion.
*Maaan, they really did my girl Blake dirty with the writing on this one :(* Honestly makes me wish they held off for later in the season, or redid the shit to make it better They are SOME positives I can point out… The Soundtrack is a banger and is something I’d expect to come out of RWBY, the actual fighting parts between the 2 is really cool, and UNLIKE Yang vs Tifa which was a brand tie-in, this is a genuine Death Battle Win for RWBY But everything else in the episode is just Wonky at best, or Bad at the worst. NOT helped by the fact that Arryn (Blake’s VA) wasn’t actually *in* the episode Which-… STILL after all these years has not been given a straight answer for why she wasn’t able to play her role! Was she sick? On a trip? Was it the harassment she got from Twitter?! WHAT HAPPENED, ARRYN???
Tbh, I think my first death battle WAS Ironman vs Batman. It’s such a great matchup, and I feel like it was very well produced, though with the mistakes you mentioned being a great eyesore now that I notice them. I just hope to see more great matchups that I want very soon, and that you have a great time watching them yourself!! Loving your content! Subscribed and Notified for your next video!
Yay another ranking! This season had an interesting choice of matchups with most of them being highly requested over the years, but the finale was pretty awesome since both combatants had other opponents but that choice made more sense cause they're both broken, i believe this season was nice
It seems no one has commented this, so I might as well. I think with Korras Avatar state, it is supposed to play into the fact that she has a easier time entering it than Aang, but is also weaker than his. Of course, i have not watched Korra myself, but i did watch videos comparing the two, where they talked about their Avatar states power or something. Also, Lex Vs Doom, I don't think the building itself or anything above the basement is the important assets, moreso what is underground or down the tower, if I understand that most of the fight takes place underneath the tower. And I guess taking Iron Vs Bat into this as well, Bruce can just build a new one. Or maybe... it was to send a message. He sure did learn from the best, right Ledger? Anyway, it might also be that since it is hacked, there is a chance it could be used against him. But yeah, this is just what I think might be case.
I do have a problem with something in the second half of the season if I remember correctly. The teaser they show for the characters going to show up in the second half all lose (besides the ones where both combatants are shown). It’s like “Wow look at all these characters who I get to see animated and fight… oh they all lose”
Not related to the video itself, sorta, but since you praise Brandon Yates' and Therewolf Media's work so much, you should check out a lot of their VS OST commissions! Seriously, people come up with the weirdest matchups but they always make certified BANGERS. Some even start instrumental and get a vocal version later! Also, Brandon did remasters of Unlocking Heaven and Stronger Together, very worth checking out!
Seeing this video, reminded me that Kool-Aid vs Macho-Man is the least view Death Battle potentially ever (relatively to their release date), I think only Red vs Blue (3 years~ 2.0M views) and Ken vs Terry (7 years~ 2.3M views) are comparable to that. And Ken vs Terry was a super weird case.
I was always under the idea that Torrian animated Blake VS Mikasa because he was the only one who had experience animating a RWBY character. After all, if I remember correctly, Torrian’s animation used motion capture, just like RWBY, while Blender animation doesn’t (I think). And something tells me Blake’s animations would’ve looked kinda weird if it were animated in Blender. Don’t quote me on that though. Edit: Got confirmation from Xander, and yeah, the SFM/Blender episodes were not animated either mocap
Silly Jonathan, season 8 was not the season of matchups related to death battles history, it was in fact a season of motorcycles with a total of 4 being used in the fight.
I won’t lie and say I didn’t contribute to the whole “Korra gets stomped, lol” situation. I was not a big fan of her at the time (and, really, I’m honestly still not), but at least I tried to differentiate me not liking the show over not liking the character. I actually think Korra as a character is pretty fascinating in concept, it’s just that I feel she wasn’t handled very well (I’m not gonna go any further, you don’t want an essay). All of this to say, I can’t believe the best Avatar episode in Death Battle is the one with my least favorite character so far.
Let me quickly explain why I don’t hate Blake VS Mikasa, unlike a normal person. Yes, my love for RWBY and AOT does bump it up, but it was more the adventure of getting to and going through this battle, and the aftermath, that made the episode mean so much to me. When it was announced, I told an old close friend of mine about it, who liked AOT, but didn’t know RWBY (they thought Blake was a guy at first). Despite this, we kept rooting for Mikasa, even though I myself knew Blake would win. In that time, I made videos and thumbnails to celebrate, the first DB videos and fan made thumbnails I made. And those videos were some of my favorite videos on my channel, and it was only the beginning. The video was just me “interviewing” Blake, unknowingly just talking to a shadow clone. The battle came out properly, and unlike any Death Battle before or since, I actually recorded and uploaded a reaction to it. I called BS in the reaction with Blake losing her arm, but I remained positive. After the fact, I didn’t stop with Blake and Mikasa. I made a comic showing what happened after the battle, which people seemed to like, you included. I continued making videos, now actually with Blake and Mikasa (voiced by that friend I mentioned earlier). I never even considered using anime or RWBY characters in my channel outside of minor gags, but there they were, and it was awesome. And you got more. There’s one where Blake and Mikasa are in an Expiration Date parody where Mikasa is the Soldier (yes, she did THAT scene), there’s one where Blake and Mikasa kiss (it was a dream and was made before Volume 9), it was great. In fact, in my normal profile picture (not the December one, the one I have writing this) and other branding, Blake and Mikasa are usually seen together. I haven’t made content with these two recently, but that’s more personal stuff, I haven’t truly lost interest. And I think since I included Blake on my channel, I started appreciating RWBY a lot more. Prior to this, I liked RWBY, but I was a little confused about my opinion. But when I added in Blake, I started to care a little more. I cared more for the characters, So yeah, there you have it. The episode may have been an obnoxious, poorly animated, and poorly written episode from analysis to conclusion, but it is my obnoxious, poorly animated, and poorly written episode from analysis to conclusion. We had laughs, and I wouldn’t be who I am today (in the RWBY fandom) without it. It may be near the bottom, but to me, I personally give it number 1. But I’m not watching it again any time soon, just listen to the battle track, or the commissioner battle track.
Story time: In the lead up to Alucard vs DIO I had to deal with Vs. Debaters saying that Alucard neg diffs DIO, so you have no idea how I felt when one of my favourite characters managed to pull the W against one of vs battles wiki's golden children.
I think I have a very simple explanation why Adam Taurus has so many unnecessary matchups. He’s the Homelander of RWBY. Everyone just wants to write him getting killed in extremely out there matchups.
Halfway through and iam honestly impressed how well edited everything is:) and how many times i had to stop and start to read cool tidbits you inserted about characters or the episode^^ 1:04:01
My problems with Alucard vs Dio are 1, I feel its out of character for alucard to use level 0 against a single opponent. Its also a drastic waste of one of his more useful abilities. 2, they try to say Alucard wouldn't know Dio is weak to sunlight. Im pretty sure hellsing vampires are also weak to sun, just Alucard is so powerful hes unaffected. 3, they say even if the sun came dio would just hide which is true, but alucard would also hunt for him which would be a problem for Dio. As if Alucard finds dio while the sun is out, dio's trapped. 4, I actually did the math for how long it would take dio to work through all of alucard's extra lives, assuming alucard has exactly 3 million, dio uses timestop for each kill, and alucard dies, recovers, and dies again with 1 second. The answer is it would take 83 hours of nonstop consecutive murder. So basically, if alucar doesnt use level 0 or has the aware of his own existence thing he pretty much has a guaranteed win. Also some people try to argue Dio's hypnosis against aware of his own existence but hypnosis is not something Dio uses in a fight. Hes arrogant. He wouldn't do that out of his own pride.
This season is a little bit more decisive than I remembered. Don’t get me wrong, there is more awesome episodes and moments then there are bad ones but still. Micky vs Yoda was a pleasant surprise for a beginning. When I first heard of the episode’s announcement, I remember being a bit confused but that doesn’t matter because this episode had some heart here. Yea, I do agree that Micky’s delivery in some lines seem a bit too passive aggressive but other then that, I think this was a strong beginning. Shadow vs Ryuko was also a surprise and I remember liking it when it first came out. I mean, don’t get me wrong, I still like the episode but I will admit, Ryuko was kind of awkwardly written. Lex vs Doom was an episode I was iffy about when I first saw it but over time, the episode really grew on me. Heihachi vs Geese is a match up I really like (and I do think there is a lot of amazing Fatal Fury/KoF vs Tekken matchups that I would love to see like Bryan Fury vs Yamazaki or Tizoc/King of Dinosaurs vs King) though I do think the episode did leave a lot to be desired. It is a fine enough episode but I guess I wished it was better. Ok, so, before I get to my next opinion, I just want to say that, for people who like the next episode, I completely respect your opinion and I am glad you enjoyed yourself… but I’m sorry, I hate Blake vs Misaka. Do I hate it as much as Sol vs Ragna? Oh, no no no no no, that will not be topped, but I think this is a very sloppy episode. Misaka seemed pretty brain dead in the fight while Blake was just so inconsistent with her characterization (I really hated that ending bit) Also, don’t worry, a lot of RWBY fans don’t really like the Vol. 7-9 redesigns, and also, when it comes to Adam having so much match ups, I don’t get it either. I guess the only one I get is Zato-1 but he already has Venom for a match up that I am sure more people would want. So after that episode, I was met with a surprising episode. Po vs Iron Fist, like Micky vs Yoda, kind of confused me at first but once I saw the episode, oh man, what an episode. You can tell there was a lot of heart in this one and that was really appreciated. Amazing episode. Now, I wished I have more to say about Steve vs Star, Link vs Cloud remake, and Batman vs Iron man but I will say they are decent episodes (Link vs Cloud remake being a vast improvement from the original) Goku Black vs Reverse Flash in the other hand was an episode that I do have quite a bit to say. If I were to describe this episode, it would be fun. Yea, I think this episode was really fun, seeing these two personalities just trying to kill each other was just fun as hell. Now, I remember when this episode came out, I saw some people getting pissed off that “yet another Dragon Ball character lost in death battle, they must really hate Dragon Ball!” Even though there has been a lot of other Dragon Ball episodes that came out where the Dragon Ball character won. Are we just going to completely forget Broly vs Hulk!? Well, whatever, amazing episode. Randy Macho Man Savage vs Kool-Aid Man is an odd one for me. Not because of the match up, I get the joke is “OH YEAH!” but what makes it weird is how it was structured and that death. Now, even when I first saw the episode, I knew that there was no malicious towards Randy Savage nor to his family when they did that death and was probably some miscommunication behind the scenes but I can’t help but feel a little awkward seeing it considering that I, being a wrestling fan, remember the day when Randy Savage passed away by a heart attack and I am glad that the death wasn’t ment to be a reference to that (thank god) but I know people would get the wrong idea. With all that being said, it was an alright episode. Not the best joke episode but it was enjoyable for what it was and I like the Sarge bit in the end since I remember saying “just wait until they show Sarge in the end” only for them to actually do so which really caught me off guard but it was funny. Now these next two episodes I like to compare and trust me, it will make sense. Dio vs Alucard is a match up I honestly wasn’t really much of a fan of (and yes, I also do think Shin is a better match up for Dio) and I do disagree with the winner but with that being said, this episode is AWESOME! The animation, the analysis, and yea, Alucard’s dialogue is a bit too reference heavy, I think the performance is really cool. Sure, Dio might not be Patrick Seitz but that is a hard one to top, I think Dio’s VA is really good and probably how I would imagine him sounding like if we didn’t get Patrick in the Dub. Akuma vs Shao Kahn in the other hand, is probably the only MK vs SF match up that I think would be remotely interesting. At first, I remember groaning when I saw the episode confirmed but I think the MU kind of grew on me thanks to the concept of one fighting game super boss being this evil and conniving ruler who would win by any means, even if he had to use any underhanded and cheep tactics to gain the victory vs a battle hardened fighting game super boss who would do anything to get stronger but has a sense of honor and a warrior’s pride. Now I also disagree with the outcome of this fight but as long as the fight was fun, exciting, and just overall, blood pumping awesomeness, we should be fine… it was not. Yea, I did not like this episode at all. Sure, I will give credit where it is due, the analysis is alright but the fight was just not good. Stiff animation, confusing choreography, and a lame death. Not a good showing at all. So why do I compare Dio vs Alucard with Akuma vs Shao Kahn? Well, both episodes I do disagree with the outcome, but I absolutely loved one episode but I really disliked the other. The outcome has nothing to do with my enjoyment, it is pretty much everything else. Now I will skip to the finale since I don’t have much feelings towards Korra vs Storm (the episode didn’t do anything for me) and Madara vs Aizen since it was a pretty decent and fun episode though I just don’t have much to commentate on aside from the cool laughing shot form the two characters. Saitama vs Popeye was a surprising finale since I didn’t really a match up like that to be a finale but I am probably out of the loop. Now I do I feel about this finale? I love it. It was everything a finale needs to be. It had memorable moments, satisfying payoffs, and it had a lot of heart. And I guess that is something I can say about this season. Despite not like 3 episodes in this season, I can say there was a lot of heart here and I am glad that it ended in such a good note.
While there are plenty of good elements within Macho Man Vs Kool-Aid Man, the radical episode structure change so it could "conclude" the "Boomstick's Dad" story COMPLETELY overshadows any of those positives for me making it my least favorite episode of Season 8. It's not the worst episode of the season; that would go to either Blake Vs Mikasa or Akuma Vs Shao Kahn. I do have a soft spot for Shadow Vs Ryuko and espeically Korra Vs Storm as it did a good enough job with representing Korra that it made me WANT to watch her show despite having no interest in watching the Avatar franchise beforehand (and I ended up watching both the OG Avatar and Korra very early this year and I liked both shows though the former is a tad overrated.)
Man, I can't wait to hear your thoughts on Season 10, because holy hell between Scooby vs Courage and Goku v Superman 3 I've gotten 2 new favorites nearing the top of my own list for best fights. Shame the rest of it doesn't stack up nearly as high in my eyes, but two top 10 worthy fights almost back to back was amazing, especially considering I was very much against Goku v Superman 3 being a thing once I heard about it - but they fixed the issues the first 2 rounds had in my eyes.
I'm stacking these bragging rights right now (binged these videos over vacation) Some pre-watch thoughts: Season 8 has to be the most divisive season for me personally. Containing many of my favorite (Yoda Vs. Mickey, Goku Black Vs. Reverse-Flash, Iron Fist Vs. Po, and the GOAT Saitama Vs. Popeye) and many of my least favorite episodes (Shadow Vs. Ryuko, Blake Vs. Mikasa, Akuma Vs. Shao Khan, and more) While Blake Vs. Mikasa is the only one I outright despise, the rest really dragged the season down for me. I can't wait to see what your take on some of them are.
Post watch thoughts: Most of my opinions remain the same. Though I was reminded that I dislike Korra Vs. Storm and why. The character rundowns were serviceable, but there were a few points from Legend of Korra that never got referenced. I doubt they'd effect the ending but it still felt like an oversight. I don't even like Legend of Korra and I think they could've done her analysis better. On the other hand, you made me appreciate Lex vs. Doom more. First time around it felt very odd, just because of how I didn't understand or agree with the thematic connections and thought it was just another Marvel Vs. DC match for the sake of having a Marvel Vs. DC match. You did a good job talking it up and now my own opinion has improved. Dio Vs. Alucard is actually my most divisive episode. Dio's coverage was great on the story side, even if I am a vehement hater of chain scaling which they use for the meteor feat, I can admit the positives of something regardless. Thing is, they didn't even need to use the meteor feat. They could've just used Star Platinum as a direct comparison to ZA WARUDO. Since they are the same Stand and directly fought each other. Similarly, they treated Alucard's story very well and their logic for excluding Schrodinger makes sense. However, a couple of their points from the analysis made no sense as someone who has experienced Hellsing. They used the fan theory about Alucard regenerating by using the souls inside him as the actual function of his abilities, and while I think this is a more minor issue, Alucard's guns inhibit all supernatural beings' regeneration, not just traditional vampires (as I understand it, correct me if I'm wrong) I don't think it'd change the outcome but that doesn't mean it shouldn't be portrayed accurately. Either way, I have no personal love for the match up. I like both characters, but I think both have better match ups. That said, the fight itself almost excuses all of what I just said. Just *so* good. In conclusion, a pretty solid rundown of the season and I agree with the broad strokes. Can't wait for Season 9's review!
1:22:46 "And then there's the Dragonball Abridged clip..." My guy! I mean no ill will to you when I say this, but that's not an Abridged clip. That's from the official Funimation English Dub. But based on DBS' writing compared to TFS's work, (which they DID do a few Super clips way back when) I wouldn't blame you from mixing up the two as an outsider.
would not be shocked *at all* if the Funimation crew took a few looks at DBZA when making their dub, especially given the series already kinda had... weirdly much in common with the parody? I mean just look at how Mr. popo was portrayed in one ep.
@@FixTheWi-Fi As far as I know, (correct me if I'm wrong,) but most of the writing is just direct translation from the sub, just like the infamous "stupid Super Goku" personality.
0:14 Lol. Dang. I was just gonna say hey. I can still enjoy an episode regardless of who wins (most of the time at least). Lol. Before, this season was my favorite (before Season 9 & 10 released of course). Had a lot of great episodes. Plus, I have a lot of nostalgia for it since it was the season that kept me entertained during quarantine.
On Dio “wrryyy” point. I never got why Dio never did in the dub, but Giorno did get to in the 7-page Muda. I am glad they did, and Phillip Reich does a good job, but why couldn't Patrick Seitz??
1:40:29 Oh, hey! I made that Esdeath vs Alucard thumbnail. Ah, the memories with this one. I still remember the salty comments I got when I brought up that Esdeath would beat him.
@@JonathanFrostathan I think the Silver Chariot calc video is the only video like this, actually. I’m guessing they probably planned to do more, but for one reason or another, they never did. The video on the Silver Chariot calc is pretty thorough though, so I would definitely recommend checking it out when you get the chance.
I was there when the season starter, and I young and innocent (and a bit stupid) and I still remember when I tought that Yoda VS King Mickey and Saitama VS Popeye were the pickest of pick. That look like a long time ago.
Ah yes. My favorite season...until season 10 came along and decided to slap it's schlong on the table. Seriously, Saitama vs Popeye only got to stay on the throne as my favorite for 2 seasons (before that my favorite episode was Iron Man vs Lex, which stood as my favorite for 6 whole seasons), and then season 10 gave it a contender for the throne that barely didn't get there (Bill vs Discord) an episode that did take the throne (Scooby vs Courage) and then like a month later that one got dethroned by another goated episode (Goku vs Superman 2023) Still, it was interesting to see what you thought about one of the best seasons. Yeah sure, it's lows were reeeeeeally low (looking at you Akuma vs Shao Kahn and Blake vs Mikasa) but the highs were some of the best episodes ever. Sooooo many bangers...
ALSO also, a small correction about 1:22:45 That's actually Monica Rial, so it is from the Dub, not TFS. It's from when Trunks is telling them about Goku Black for the first time
Man, Batman fans are for sure not eating when it comes to Death Battle. Honestly I ain't even upset that Batman consistently loses, Batman is just not really built for Death Battle formula, his strengths lie in analytical skills and his tactical cunning, exploiting the chinks in enemy's armors, no matter how much more powerful they are then him, but as you stated, Batman just behaved like a mindless brute, and all the tech smarts they gave to Tony. Like Bruce also made an AI which can hack Cyborg, Bruce also has control over Brother Eye, why didn't he use any of that stuff. Although Saitama vs Popeye is goated, easily my favorite DB in history
Star vs Steven is definitely my least favorite of this season. Not because I disagree with the outcome, but because it just makes me sad. My boy Steven gets traumatized and vaporized all because Star wanted to "cheer him up" by blasting him with cupcakes
As a diehard WWE fan, the Macho Man analysis is possibly the worst in series history. Like, you can tell the writers knew absolutely nothing about him, and just skimmed his Wikipedia article to make the analysis.
Dats right people, *THE BRAGGING RIGHT SQUAD HAS RISED.* This Season is where we start with Death Battle’s golden age. And holy lord what an amazing start. None of the episodes I didn’t really have a strong dislike towards. Akuma VS Shao Kahn? Thought it was more mediocre, but I think it did had elements that would work if the episode had the time it needed. Blake VS Mikasa? Thought it was more of a mix bag. While it did have some bad moments, there were some solid moments. Lex VS Doom? Thought it fine. Not too special but didn’t do a lot wrong. The rest are ones I got some enjoyment out of. Ranging from alright, to amazing, to my favorite episode in Death Battle *(Why yes my favorite episode is Saitama VS Popeye. How could you tell?)*
Okay, here is my ranking for the season 16. Akuma VS Shao Kahn (A poorly animated fight for an overrated matchup. Looks like a DBX worthy animation.) 15. Macho Man VS Kool-Aid Man (An overhyped, poorly written mess when you really start thinking about it. But hey, least the animation was good) 14. Shadow VS Ryuko (Hot take, I do NOT like Shadow, and I think Ryuko is fine, for now. I dunno, I just felt bad for her this episode, and I don't even know her very much. But hey, at least this wasn't made in Season 1. *looks at Chun-Li VS Mai*) 13. Madara VS Aizen (I felt nothing from this, I'm sorry. It's a Shadow VS Ryuko situation here) 12. Korra VS Storm (Bad stomp matchup in a season filled with stomp matchups. And it's not like the animation impressed me either.) 11. Blake VS Mikasa (Yeah, I find your rating on this episode to be a bit harsh. Oh, it's still not good, don't get me wrong, but it's also not... terrible? Whatever, if you want to see real Blake and Mikasa crossover content, just see some of what I made on my channel in response to this battle, it's way more charming. Oh, and yeah, you're right, the music is great.) 10. Steven Universe VS Star Butterfly (It's fine. Amusing sometimes, but just fine.) 9. Heihachi VS Geese (It's fine. A bit more amusing and less weird to look at, but fine.) 8. Lex Luthor VS Doctor Doom (Dialogue was a hit for me, at least some of it, but yeah, it's surprisingly serviceable.) 7. Batman VS Iron Man (Again, dialogue was good for the most part, writing was fine, not much to say.) 6. Yoda VS King Mickey (Good animation, great finale, not much to say.) 5. Iron Fist VS Po (Fell in love with this the moment I saw it. Funny and nostalgic at times. Po looks weird in sprites though.) 4. Link VS Cloud (Awesome music, great animation, amazing climax, great all around.) 3. DIO VS Alucard (The voices! The animation! The 3D backgrounds! The finisher! I don't even care for their franchises, and it's just... AH!) 2. Saitama VS Popeye (This episode has about everything. Yes, everything. Everything. I'll get you, and it'll look like a bloody accident.) 1. Goku Black VS Reverse-Flash (Apparently this was a last minute addition to the season. Could've fooled me!)
Woah. I know some people aren't fan of Korra vs Storm, but I didn't expect you to have THAT much to say about it Hopeful one day you get an Avatar episode that you can enjoy (Like an Azula matchup that DOESN'T involve a certain RWBY charachter)
Blake vs Mikasa got the gist of RWBY's story perfectly. Person in power is very reasonably pissed off at main character for very understandable reasons. Main character gets pissy and starts a fight. Person in power gets murdered for attempting to do the right thing. Main character gets away with being a trash tier human being. Props to Death Battle for accurate character portrayal on Blake's part.
bruh did you actually agree with Ironwood leaving all of Mantle to die and then *preventing* evacuations from it- other than that there aren't really any "people in power" they've had to fight.
@@FixTheWi-Fi Lmao, Ironwood had literally no time to come up with a better plan because Team SHTY decided to withhold vitally important information from him when he'd shown them nothing but trust and accomodation since the moment they set foot in his kingdom right up until he found out they were a bunch of rat bastard liars, Team SHTY's plan basically ammounted to 'war of attrition against an immortal being and her endlessly spawning army of monsters fueled by negative emotion', and everything he did in volue eight was these stupid blithering hacks that have the audacity to call themselves writers being butthurt that people weren't siding with their shitty heroes and assassinating his character to try and force everyone to side against him. RWBY is hot garbage, deal with it.
@metamaster5469 m8 you just described *Ironwood's* plan, if he rose Atlas and left Mantle behind he'd be a... well not sitting but hivering duck which I doubt he'd have the resources to properly defend for decent amount of time against flying grimm. ...though the funny thing is... they weren't against the raising idea entirely, but they started trying to evacuate Mantle bc they knew those people would die... which Ironwood stopped them doing by literally shooting ships carrying innocent people. so instead they hatched an admittedly flawed plan that ended up saving most (note: not all bc fucking Cinder) of both cities. W. You're mad the writers made the miliatary dictator the antagonist. Your take is hot garbage, deal with it.
@@FixTheWi-Fi Well at least if he got the hell out of doge, he'd have time to come up with some kind of better plan. And his plan was better than Team SHTY's 'literally no actual plan at all until a deus ex machina conveniently happened to fall right into their lap AFTER they'd screwed everything up. And, again, everything he did post volume seven is because the writers are a bunch of petulant children that couldn't write a morally grey conflict to save their lives and just HAD to fuck over a good man's character in a half-baked effort to justify their main characters' actions. And uh... Realistically speaking? No way in HELL Team SHTY sending an entire kingdom's worth of people to a desert wasteland full of giant monsters that are attracted to negative emotions with only a few hunters to protect them in the hopes that they can reach a tiny kingdom that both doesn't realistically have the resources to support them and actively HATES the refugees should have EVER led to ANYTHING good. I gurantee you there'll be no explanation for how it miraculously did.
This season's a... really weird one to me. On one hand, there's a lot of episodes I really like, and even one flawed one I will adamantly defend partially out of bias (MY FAVORITE FICTIONAL CHARACTER FINALLY GOT A W AND DIDN'T GET AN EPISODE THAT SPITES HIM, FUCK YES) But on the other, it has some episodes I find very frustrating (MadaraAizen and AkumaKhan) to the point that it just...gah. I definently prefer Seasons 6, 9, and 10. S8's very good, don't get me wrong - the Popaitama FlashBlack and Diocard trilogy alone make that the case - but it's a very flawed season. Personal ranking time 16. Akuma vs. Shao Khan (yeah this episode sucks, what do i need to say. it's basically batgwen for me but less janky and weirdly more disappointing. 3/10) 15. Blake vs. Mikasa (worse analyses then akumakhan but despite the framerate, i do enjoy the fight more then akumakhan and thunder shroud is actually good. 3.5/10) 14. Madara vs. Aizen (i sure do love my favorite villain in fiction being shafted in favor of his opponent, including them blatantly just saying things that're wrong about bleach's story and not covering his story in full and letting his opponent get almost every cool moment in the fight and letting madara get everything while not giving aizen everything! the technical issues also hinder it hard for me, easily one of the most frustrating episodes to me. hollow dreams is my fav track of the season though! 4.5/10) 13. Korra vs. Storm (it's just so bland. and still my favorite avatar episode. very forgettable but as a result it's much less frustrating then the other atrocities of episodes we got, all of which are in the 3/10 range to me. 5/10) 12. Steven vs. Star (i never cared for star and really like steven and this episode just does not do it for me. steven's analysis is mostly good but it's weirdly paced and star's bored me, and the fight's just weirdly paced and frustrating and i just am not a huge fan. i kinda wish he fought adora instead tbh. 5.5/10) 11. Macho Man vs. Kool-Aid Man (i do think randy should've won but it's a good episode hampered by not just being macho man vs kool-aid man. 6/10) 10. Batman vs. Iron Man (wasted potential but still fun, i like it a lot. 7/10) 9. Shadow vs. Ryuko (while the analyses are flawed, as is ryuko's portrayal in the fight, this fight gave me basically everything i wanted out of a shadow fight, and i think ryuko's for the most part fine just that One Fucking Line man. i wish this could be better but i still really like it. Also Chaos Unraveled fucks btw and I'm tired of pretending it doesn't. 7.5/10) 8. Lex vs. Doom (this episode has only gotten better for me every time i've watched it. the analyses are fun, the fight's cool and uses doom in particular soooo much better then his previous fight, and is in general just a fucking blast. i really like it, 8/10) 7. Heihachi vs. Geese (just a really fun fighting game match, and i don't mind geese's voice at all! it's just a really, really fun time that gives me almost everything i'd want. 8/10) 6. Po vs. Iron Fist (yeah this one is just pure fun and does both well. lame kill tho and some jank shots. 8/10) 5. Yoda vs. King Mickey (of the 3 really good modern star wars episodes this one's the one i'd say is the worst but not by much. it's really, REALLY good and just has a slightly weaker set of analyses imo and isn't as investing for me as the obikakashi and vaderbito duo, but it's still really good. 9/10) 4. Link vs. Cloud 2 (Yeah, this episode fucking rocks. Link's analysis is the only real problem, imo, and some of the effects in the fight are not great, but otherwise? stellar. 9.5/10) 3. DIO vs. Alucard (what do i need to say this episode just does everything right lmao. 10/10. i think flashblack and popaitama excel in some areas more but diocard is just spectacular) 2. Reverse Flash vs. Goku Black (honestly goku black's analysis is bad but idec because everything else is so fucking perfect that it doesn't even matter to me. reverse flash has the best analysis of the show imo and the fight is really really good. 3rd favorite spritefight of the show and my 10th favorite of all time. 10/10) 1. Popeye vs. Saitama (just does everything amazingly. second best finale and fourth favorite episode of all time. 10/10)
Alright time to say some things 1st: great job with the video 2nd: THANK YOU! I've always felt the same way about the dialouge from Lex vs Doom and even felt that a lot of the criticism for it was overexaggerated, but I do understand why people wouldn't be a big fan of it 3rd: facts, Eizen is better then Aizen And 4rth: ...FUCK! Now I have to eat my shoes ...TWICE!
Man... After looking at this video, I can really see that my ranking for this season is probably the most controversial... (In case you're wondering why...) 1. Dio vs Alucard 2. Blake vs Mikasa 3. Saitama vs Popeye 4. Madara vs Aizen 5. Goku Black vs Reverse Flash 6. Heihachi vs Geese 7. Shadow vs Ryuko 8. Steven vs Star 9. Korra vs Storm 10. Link vs Cloud 2 11. Yoda vs King Mickey 12. Batman vs Iron Man 13. Lex vs Doom 14. Akuma vs Shao Kahn 15. Iron Fost vs Po Skipped: Macho Man vs Kool Aid Man (I never saw this episode)
As the guy who wrote Death Battle Blake’s Scrappy Wiki page and has hated on that portrayal harder than your whole opinion on that episode with a burning passion, even paraphrasing Schaffrillas to prove my point, I’m kinda surprised you didn’t at least mention Blake not having her voice actress. Like, it doesn’t even need to remove points on your end. And don’t even get me started on Blake’s arm.
Finally finished this video! Season 8 is funny to me (ignoring season 10) it's my top 3 of the show, but i still feel is kinda overrated? For me season 9 and 6 are waaaaay better, but i still get why they say it's the best etc Other Blakasa hater???? Based!? It's probably my least favorite of the season too, and it's funny because... Mikasa is the only character that they've used that i outright dislike (that i know of course) Other thing is... What's the big unpopular opinion that rivals Hulk vs Doomsday take? I didn't get it... It's about the season overall? Yeah i really don't get it
I know there’s still season 9 and 10 for you to do But was just wondering when you do finish with the speed you’ve been going with these videos you’ll probably be done before season 11 starts so my question is do you think that when season 11 ends you’ll reveal season 11? Your my favourite death battle reviewer and I’ve enjoyed each of your death battle retrospectives
So if I’m being honest as someone who has watched RWBY, Blake’s rundown is boring because Blake herself is uninteresting, like you said you wanted to learn more about her relationship with Adam …. Yeah no they covered it in its entirety the writers for RWBY just didn’t know what to do with it. In my opinion they did their best but due to Blake’s irrelevancy in recent volumes (she doesn’t do shit) her analysis just felt really empty … but name dropping the chads Mercury and Emerald is based 10/10 analysis
*HEY*
Not as much to say here (just know that when I said "Alucard is not that interesting", I'm exclusively referring to a vs standpoint. I've heard that he's very well-written in his series), but regardless:

You should definitely check Hellsing out sometime. Whether you read the manga or watch Ultimate, it's a very entertaining experience.
I can’t wait to here your final thoughts on the two soon to be most recent death battles because Hahahahaha
@@Sub-Zero-im7km I'm assuming that Hellsing Ultimate is like FMA Brotherhood where it's a remake of the of anime series that's much more faithful to the manga?
@@JonathanFrostathan Yeah it is. The original 2003 anime had an entirely original ending since the manga wasn't finished at the time.
I can’t wait to hear your thoughts on season 10
It’s the scream of her being impaled by a big rod shooting hot stuff inside- OH DEAR LORD, WHY DID YOU DO THIS TO ME
Akuma vs Shao Khan gave a better reason for Cetrion to ever exist with the weird fatality scaling than MK11 ever did.
HAHAHAHAHAHA
I wouldn't say gianni was miscast moreso misdirected. I definitely feel like he could have done a good shao kahn, the direction just had him using a fairly normal voice
Haven’t even watched the video yet besides watching the premiere for a little bit, but HOLY SHIT. Your ability to consistently produce multi hour long video reviews on a nearly monthly basis is fucking astonishing. Take the day, or week… or year, off because you’ve earned it man.
Edit 42:42 nvm there is one typo in a text wall, disguis is not a word, 0/10
I appreciate Holy Diver playing through the Diocard segment. And finally, someone who gets the “Down too long in the midnight sea” reference!
Probably my favorite intro yet. Your editing skills are fantastic!
So, do you know how long it’s going to be before your season 10 reviews? I don’t mean to be rude, I’ve just avoided all reviews and waited for yours because they’re unique and funny
@@starcast3905 Considering what I have planned for it as well as the other videos I plan to make in the mean time, even I'm not sure.
@@RaccoonBroVA That’s fine, I’m just excited for whatever you have planned
1:22:46 this isn’t actually an abridged clip they just played a clip of the actual dub for no reason.
DIO vs Alucard is my favorite match of the series
sooo...
WRYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY!
Oh Blake's writing is all over the place you say...good thing that that's a thing with her in her source material.
Same thing with most characters. Especially Jaune, like what is his purpose man?
Now where have I heard that one before…
Edit: Okay, just to be clear, this is my way of saying "I don't find this funny, and I feel like I've seen this a million times."
There IS one thing consitent about it: It's consistently terrible and makes her come off as an unlikeable brat.
@@MattSayYay Bro can't handle the facts
It's a shame I ended up missing out the premiere thanks to my internet acting rather unfriendly by the time it started, but overall that was a really solid retrospective, a great video even
Funnily enough tho, when looking at the ranking of each episode it's not too dissimilar to how you ranked the likes of S2 and S5 with it's high and low points and it makes me realizes how S8 could be seen as the modern equivalent to S2 (or spiritual successor, idk). At least to me, ig
Regardless, I cannot wait until we get to the S9 and especially S10 retrospectives next year, and possibly even any non-DB content in the near future too so, I'm definitely looking forward to all of it
9:10 I think the idea is the force isn't a mana or ki pool with obi wan v kakashi, but the amount one can use at once is limited to the user
This was my favorite season before season 10 stole that spot just past halfway so I was definitely looking forward to this.
All of these videos feel like events, good job dude!
Season 10 is also better in my opinion more than Season 8, even if we are waiting for Galactus VS Unicron!
Same
44:05 Okay, real late to this so you probably already heard or saw from somewhere else, but I'll comment just to engage the algorithm anyway.
*Maaan, they really did my girl Blake dirty with the writing on this one :(*
Honestly makes me wish they held off for later in the season, or redid the shit to make it better
They are SOME positives I can point out…
The Soundtrack is a banger and is something I’d expect to come out of RWBY, the actual fighting parts between the 2 is really cool, and UNLIKE Yang vs Tifa which was a brand tie-in, this is a genuine Death Battle Win for RWBY
But everything else in the episode is just Wonky at best, or Bad at the worst. NOT helped by the fact that Arryn (Blake’s VA) wasn’t actually *in* the episode
Which-… STILL after all these years has not been given a straight answer for why she wasn’t able to play her role!
I believe there's a video on DEATH BATTLE's channel explaining how they got the numbers for 1500 Light Speed DIO.
Sad but true.
You know I'm easy to please when I'm just happy that something of mine gets to appear for about 0.01 seconds
(I wrote Rin vs Adam on Fanon)
1:24:55 I didn't know Michael Kovach voiced Goku Black, I never checked the voices at the end
Just started the video and Xenoblade Chronicles 3 music is playing, oh boy this is gonna be a great video
HOLY SHIT I JUST GOT VIBECHECKED. During the Madara vs Aizen section I checked if I was subscribed and I wasn't.
Forgive me for my sins.
You are forgiven. (Sidenote, there was never really a punishment).
Damn, I just binged the rest of your series over the past 2 days, and them bam, part 8
Good stuff
I was always under the idea that Torrian animated Blake VS Mikasa because he was the only one who had experience animating a RWBY character. After all, if I remember correctly, Torrian’s animation used motion capture, just like RWBY, while Blender animation doesn’t (I think). And something tells me Blake’s animations would’ve looked kinda weird if it were animated in Blender. Don’t quote me on that though.
Edit: Got confirmation from Xander, and yeah, the SFM/Blender episodes were not animated either mocap
I popped off so hard when you gave diocard a 98/100
my favorite episode of the show
Silly Jonathan, season 8 was not the season of matchups related to death battles history, it was in fact a season of motorcycles with a total of 4 being used in the fight.
I cared more for the characters,
So yeah, there you have it.
It's just what happens when the Vampire King fights the Vampire God
Hell yeah, this is where Death Battle starts getting really good.
Just so you know the goku black clip they had wasnt abridged it was from the official dub
I'm stacking these bragging rights right now (binged these videos over vacation)
Some pre-watch thoughts: Season 8 has to be the most divisive season for me personally.
They used the fan theory about Alucard regenerating by using the souls inside him as the actual function of his abilities, and while I think this is a more minor issue, Alucard's guns inhibit all supernatural beings' regeneration, not just traditional vampires (as I understand it, correct me if I'm wrong)
I don't think it'd change the outcome but that doesn't mean it shouldn't be portrayed accurately.
1:22:46 "And then there's the Dragonball Abridged clip..."
My guy!
1:01:52 - ...and you don't need a 2 hour long rant video to understand why
Me: *spits drink*
0:14 Lol.
Madara vs aizen is a top tier fight... But maybe the worst analisis.
Not just for aizen, but also madara.
27:00 I see that edit. Very well done
1:40:29 Oh, hey! I made that Esdeath vs Alucard thumbnail. Ah, the memories with this one. I still remember the salty comments I got when I brought up that Esdeath would beat him.
1:52:44
Liam made a whole video explaining his process for Silver Chariot's speed, though it's membership exclusive.
Oh right, I forgot that there are membership videos where he explains some calcs that he got. I need to check those out.
Gentlemen, I have bragging rights.
I was there when the season starter, and I young and innocent (and a bit stupid) and I still remember when I tought that Yoda VS King Mickey and Saitama VS Popeye were the pickest of pick.
That look like a long time ago.
Glad this finally came out. Especially since these past few days have not been that good for me (mainly being very sick).
1:00:03 Glad I'm not the only one that mishears that every time.
Ah yes. My favorite season...until season 10 came along and decided to slap it's schlong on the table.
Seriously, Saitama vs Popeye only got to stay on the throne as my favorite for 2 seasons (before that my favorite episode was Iron Man vs Lex, which stood as my favorite for 6 whole seasons), and then season 10 gave it a contender for the throne that barely didn't get there (Bill vs Discord) an episode that did take the throne (Scooby vs Courage) and then like a month later that one got dethroned by another goated episode (Goku vs Superman 2023)
Still, it was interesting to see what you thought about one of the best seasons. Yeah sure, it's lows were reeeeeeally low (looking at you Akuma vs Shao Kahn and Blake vs Mikasa) but the highs were some of the best episodes ever. Sooooo many bangers...
Also, i see you're a man of culture for seeing Lex vs Doom as the master piece it is. My man! 🤝
ALSO also, a small correction about 1:22:45 That's actually Monica Rial, so it is from the Dub, not TFS. It's from when Trunks is telling them about Goku Black for the first time
DIO vs Alucard proves that according to DB, sometimes the coughing baby wins.
1:26:00 - Oh yeah. You know this was recorded before Goku VS Superman 2023
(Wait, what do you mean this came out 5 days after that episode-?)
Also, that intro was AMAZING!!!
Bro, I can’t wait for heat reveal of season nine
2:05:54
Sick af transition holy shit
I may disagree with most of these ratings I gotta say wow it sure is interesting to hear other takes from other people
Man, Batman fans are for sure not eating when it comes to Death Battle.
I can understand that.
I AM HYPED BEYOND HYPE!!!! I can’t wait!
I also like the color aesthetic these thumbnails have
0:55 I started watching around I think Mario vs Sonic
As a diehard WWE fan, the Macho Man analysis is possibly the worst in series history. Like, you can tell the writers knew absolutely nothing about him, and just skimmed his Wikipedia article to make the analysis.
Dats right people, *THE BRAGGING RIGHT SQUAD HAS RISED.*
This Season is where we start with Death Battle’s golden age.
The Eizen > Aizen propaganda I am absolutely here for. We love to see respect for The Reaper.
Give me Eizen vs Qrow you cowards.
Can’t wait for Season 9!
i am surprised they didn't use Robin Williams' version for the 3D segment
You dare sleep on the amazing rivalry match-up between Mob Psycho 100 and One Punch Man that is Reigen vs King!?! For shame!
Okay, here is my ranking for the season
16. Akuma VS Shao Kahn (A poorly animated fight for an overrated matchup. Looks like a DBX worthy animation.)
15. Macho Man VS Kool-Aid Man (An overhyped, poorly written mess when you really start thinking about it. But hey, least the animation was good)
14. Shadow VS Ryuko (Hot take, I do NOT like Shadow, and I think Ryuko is fine, for now. I dunno, I just felt bad for her this episode, and I don't even know her very much. But hey, at least this wasn't made in Season 1. *looks at Chun-Li VS Mai*)
13. Madara VS Aizen (I felt nothing from this, I'm sorry. It's a Shadow VS Ryuko situation here)
12. Korra VS Storm (Bad stomp matchup in a season filled with stomp matchups. And it's not like the animation impressed me either.)
11. Oh, and yeah, you're right, the music is great.)
10. Steven Universe VS Star Butterfly (It's fine. Amusing sometimes, but just fine.)
9. Heihachi VS Geese (It's fine. A bit more amusing and less weird to look at, but fine.)
8. Lex Luthor VS Doctor Doom (Dialogue was a hit for me, at least some of it, but yeah, it's surprisingly serviceable.)
7. Batman VS Iron Man (Again, dialogue was good for the most part, writing was fine, not much to say.)
6. Yoda VS King Mickey (Good animation, great finale, not much to say.)
5. Iron Fist VS Po (Fell in love with this the moment I saw it. Funny and nostalgic at times. Po looks weird in sprites though.)
4. Link VS Cloud (Awesome music, great animation, amazing climax, great all around.)
3. DIO VS Alucard (The voices! The animation! The 3D backgrounds! The finisher! I don't even care for their franchises, and it's just... AH!)
2. Saitama VS Popeye (This episode has about everything. Yes, everything. Everything. I'll get you, and it'll look like a bloody accident.)
1. Goku Black VS Reverse-Flash (Apparently this was a last minute addition to the season. Could've fooled me!)
Woah. I know some people aren't fan of Korra vs Storm, but I didn't expect you to have THAT much to say about it
Hopeful one day you get an Avatar episode that you can enjoy (Like an Azula matchup that DOESN'T involve a certain RWBY charachter)
Props to Death Battle for accurate character portrayal on Blake's part.
bruh did you actually agree with Ironwood leaving all of Mantle to die and then *preventing* evacuations from it-
other than that there aren't really any "people in power" they've had to fight.
@@metamaster5469dude just admit that your a RWBY hater and be done with it. Cause your just being annoying
This season's a... really weird one to me.
On one hand, there's a lot of episodes I really like, and even one flawed one I will adamantly defend partially out of bias (MY FAVORITE FICTIONAL CHARACTER FINALLY GOT A W AND DIDN'T GET AN EPISODE THAT SPITES HIM, FUCK YES)
But on the other, it has some episodes I find very frustrating (MadaraAizen and AkumaKhan) to the point that it just...gah.
I definently prefer Seasons 6, 9, and 10. S8's very good, don't get me wrong - the Popaitama FlashBlack and Diocard trilogy alone make that the case - but it's a very flawed season. Personal ranking time
16. Akuma vs. Shao Khan (yeah this episode sucks, what do i need to say. it's basically batgwen for me but less janky and weirdly more disappointing. 3/10)
15. Blake vs. Mikasa (worse analyses then akumakhan but despite the framerate, i do enjoy the fight more then akumakhan and thunder shroud is actually good. 3.5/10)
13. Korra vs. Storm (it's just so bland. and still my favorite avatar episode. very forgettable but as a result it's much less frustrating then the other atrocities of episodes we got, all of which are in the 3/10 range to me. 5/10)
12. Steven vs. Star (i never cared for star and really like steven and this episode just does not do it for me. steven's analysis is mostly good but it's weirdly paced and star's bored me, and the fight's just weirdly paced and frustrating and i just am not a huge fan. i kinda wish he fought adora instead tbh. 5.5/10)
11. Macho Man vs. Kool-Aid Man (i do think randy should've won but it's a good episode hampered by not just being macho man vs kool-aid man. 6/10)
10. Batman vs. Iron Man (wasted potential but still fun, i like it a lot. 7/10)
8. Lex vs. Doom (this episode has only gotten better for me every time i've watched it. the analyses are fun, the fight's cool and uses doom in particular soooo much better then his previous fight, and is in general just a fucking blast. i really like it, 8/10)
7. Heihachi vs. Geese (just a really fun fighting game match, and i don't mind geese's voice at all! it's just a really, really fun time that gives me almost everything i'd want. 8/10)
6. Po vs. Iron Fist (yeah this one is just pure fun and does both well. lame kill tho and some jank shots. 8/10)
5. Yoda vs. King Mickey (of the 3 really good modern star wars episodes this one's the one i'd say is the worst but not by much. it's really, REALLY good and just has a slightly weaker set of analyses imo and isn't as investing for me as the obikakashi and vaderbito duo, but it's still really good. 9/10)
4. Link vs. Cloud 2 (Yeah, this episode fucking rocks. Link's analysis is the only real problem, imo, and some of the effects in the fight are not great, but otherwise? stellar. 9.5/10)
3. DIO vs. Alucard (what do i need to say this episode just does everything right lmao. 10/10. i think flashblack and popaitama excel in some areas more but diocard is just spectacular)
1. Popeye vs. Saitama (just does everything amazingly. second best finale and fourth favorite episode of all time. 10/10)
Man, I WISH shitposting was as epic as that intro makes it.
Alright time to say some things
1st: great job with the video
2nd: THANK YOU! I've always felt the same way about the dialouge from Lex vs Doom and even felt that a lot of the criticism for it was overexaggerated, but I do understand why people wouldn't be a big fan of it
3rd: facts, Eizen is better then Aizen
And 4rth: ...FUCK! Now I have to eat my shoes ...TWICE!
Man... After looking at this video, I can really see that my ranking for this season is probably the most controversial...
(In case you're wondering why...)
1. Dio vs Alucard
2. Blake vs Mikasa
3. Saitama vs Popeye
4. Madara vs Aizen
5. Goku Black vs Reverse Flash
6. Heihachi vs Geese
7. Shadow vs Ryuko
8. Steven vs Star
9. Korra vs Storm
10. Link vs Cloud 2
11. Yoda vs King Mickey
12. Batman vs Iron Man
13. Lex vs Doom
14. Akuma vs Shao Kahn
15. Iron Fost vs Po
Skipped: Macho Man vs Kool Aid Man (I never saw this episode)
As the guy who wrote Death Battle Blake’s Scrappy Wiki page and has hated on that portrayal harder than your whole opinion on that episode with a burning passion, even paraphrasing Schaffrillas to prove my point, I’m kinda surprised you didn’t at least mention Blake not having her voice actress. Like, it doesn’t even need to remove points on your end. And don’t even get me started on Blake’s arm.
The fact he said fairy link and not gay link is just SMH cancel culture has gone too far /j
HEHEHE BRAGGING RIGHTS BABY!!!!! Also also I think this js your best video yet imo
1:40:32 *begs to differ in Joni vs Alucard*
This was the best Season of Death Battle, Until season 10 arrived
Finally finished this video!
Season 8 is funny to me (ignoring season 10) it's my top 3 of the show, but i still feel is kinda overrated? For me season 9 and 6 are waaaaay better, but i still get why they say it's the best etc
Other Blakasa hater???? Based!? It's probably my least favorite of the season too, and it's funny because... Mikasa is the only character that they've used that i outright dislike (that i know of course)
Other thing is... What's the big unpopular opinion that rivals Hulk vs Doomsday take? I didn't get it... It's about the season overall? Yeah i really don't get it
Now that I think about it… what is your most wanted death battle MU?
That would be Ragna VS Velvet (Blazblue VS Tales of)
@@MidnightPhantom sweet
Season 8 is a season of many, many highs and only a few really low points.
1:10:19 Called it
I know there’s still season 9 and 10 for you to do
But was just wondering when you do finish with the speed you’ve been going with these videos you’ll probably be done before season 11 starts so my question is do you think that when season 11 ends you’ll reveal season 11?
Your my favourite death battle reviewer and I’ve enjoyed each of your death battle retrospectives
Yeah, I'll get back to these after each new season.
1:44:10 SPARE RARE-
1:12:24 Didn’t Batman have 3 episodes already so it would be his 4th.
I thought Kora vs Storm was going to be a 85/100 still a great video though
Funny, that's the exact score I would've given Blake VS Mikasa had Blake been better written
1:40:40 - the psychic damage you did to me with that music choice fellow metalhead
I mean, it's DIO. What else did you expect? XD
@@JonathanFrostathan true, when he was in that coffin, you could say there was no sign of the morning coming for him, and that he was left on his own
So if I’m being honest as someone who has watched RWBY, Blake’s rundown is boring because Blake herself is uninteresting, like you said you wanted to learn more about her relationship with Adam ….
