  • Toss out those old court card stereotypes of sex, gender, and physical attributes! Bring Tarot into the 21st century with these new, contemporary roles. You can be any court card, depending on your situation:
    Managing your own company? That’s a King thing.
    Taking care of your kids or coaching a friend? That’s a Queen quality.
    Moving from place-to-place or job-to-job? Your expressing Knight energy.
    Learning a new skill? You’re a studious Page.

    People who start fights here over gender roles will be cussed out and tossed out. I am in no mood to entertain caveman thinking. The world is evolving. Too bad some folks insist on dragging us backwards.

      Reading cards is about interpretation. "I" cannot tell "you" how to interpret your cards as long as you do not stray from the actual meaning you are open to describe and interpret them however you choose. But you also can not push that on another reader. Nothing in life is absolute and this is even more true in how someone decides to read the cards.

    I think it’s a little bit overkill to say that it’s offensive that they were all Europeans. Tarot cards are European, developed by Europeans. They derived from a game in Italy, spread through Europe and then developed under French occultists… The concepts are based in European society (Monarchical court cards), and concepts from European paganism (four elements) and general mythology (major arcana) . It’s an INDIGENOUS sacred spiritual practice , we tend to forget that. It gets remade all the time, which in the one hand is fine because times change, but in the other hand it literally is cultural appropriation and colonization. So, let’s have a multicultural tarot deck re illustration - but let’s not cry offense and injustice against the originators of the card system itself for being who they are and reflecting their own cultures.

    • @Miss_Deeds
      @Miss_Deeds 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes. We forget that since we’ve colonized this continent (North America), over here Indigenous means Native American. But in Europe, Caucasians are indigenous. So it is an indigenous practice in Europe, but it has evolved to be created to represent the different people other than Europeans. I don’t know that anyones calling that appropriation.
      One thing I’m growing weary of is the shaming of appropriating ( fill-in-the-blank ), when the folks doing the shaming aren’t themselves members of the culture/community being appropriated. It’s a phenomenon of the times, the self-appointed gatekeepers of a community they aren’t a member of.

      @@georginatoland I think I spoke a little harshly. I got the gist more than my comment may indicate - we have to acknowledge the narrowness of the depictions on the cards - but those decpictions are secondary to their symbolic meaning anyway, which may pertain to universal concepts, or people of any sex, race, culture.

      ツAriel L hi. It’s going okay. I have to get better at interpreting the cards, for more than their textbook meanings. Hopefully I’ll get there. How’s your tarot journey?

    • @louisavalentin5885
      @louisavalentin5885 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @ツAriel L OMG, you are NOT alone, not at all. It is funny, but not funny. I'm right there with you, as I'm sure many others are. Sometimes, I just think I'll never REALLY get it, and people are saying slow down and trust the process (which I'm trying to do). I've also experienced, "learning" one way from someone, and then hearing something totally different from another. I guess we just have to choose which is the path that we identify with the most. It is very frustrating when things don't seem to make sense, but it is also fun when we make a rightful connection. Hopefully we will both make progress in this journey and not just give up. It seems I'm pulling the "right" cards, but not making the right connections. I have a friend who is further along in her tarot journey, and when she shares her interpretations of what the cards I pull mean, it is like the message just "clicks".

    • @louisavalentin5885
      @louisavalentin5885 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @ツAriel L Yeah, definitely not alone. Glad you're not going to give up, and have devised a plan to get you to where you'd like to be. I'm still working on finding my way, so I thank you for your kind words. This morning I felt a bit of a breakthrough again so that was pretty cool (was having a bit of a mental block). Even though I just started, I take a little break when I'm feeling completely disconnected (sometimes a day, sometimes a few days). I just ordered a book online, so hopefully that'll help me. I'll still watch videos, because I like seeing the tarot interpreted "live", but I won't try to watch nor memorize every different person/method. I have a couple that I believe can guide me in the right direction. I'm also trying to figure out my own interpretations, which has been my trouble spot. It is always good to know that you're not alone on this journey, especially when the frustration hits, so I appreciate these little "chats" as much as you do, lol. Wishing you so much luck, and hopefully we'll both continue to find our way. :D :D :D

I just bought my first deck(s) this week but am not in love; one is the original and too busy for me/don’t love colors, other is a pretty holographic one but turns out it’s a small cheap one from China -I still secretly love it🤭. However to learn I’m finding I don’t like borders and other random details. Anyhoo, thank you so much for these amazing videos. Chris Lassiter Thank you so much! This video was the culmination of 40 years of puzzling over the various ways that I'd read about and how it differed from the way I actually read the cards for people.

      Georgina Toland i hope to be as knowledgeable as you about the cards one day. I was naturally drawn to them through my strong affiliation with playing cards/mtg and tarot seems to consolidate my spiritual/philosophic beliefs all in one book. Quite mystic. Also, I read another person's request to do a video on the Hermetic deck. I also purchased this deck and would be interested to see your readings. Thanks again

    When does your book come out, 'cause I'll be first in line. Natural-born teacher are you. Thank you most kindly for offering your expertise to all so graciously. Thank you for unblocking the last Tarot hurdle, the court cards. I greatly enjoyed your enthusiasm, highly engaging tone, and measured speech. Subscribed and will check all your other stuff. Miss, if you're not a teacher please consider it. This was a veritable treat that I will watch again. Extremely well done.

      antys channel Aw...thank you so very much! 🤗 I struggled with Court Cards for years when I first studied Tarot, and the books available on the topic back in the day (cough the 1970s cough) were very limiting. Nobody should have to go through that. 🙂

    I assign the 12 zodiac signs to each card. To me, they represent attitudes. The pages show aspects of the major arcana card - the Fool. I like your approach because it's similar to mine.

      My mother brought me this same deck from spain. I asked for the original RWS but this one is all she could get. I wasn't happy but when i saw the cards in real life (not pictures of them) i loved them, and watching your video made me love them even more. Do you have more videos of your teachings? Today I went with my best friend to the woods and made my first "reading" ever, not knowing much, (Ive only seen this video once and thats all my tarot info). I followed the instructions of the little book. And I think we got a clear message from the cards or whatever is speaking through them. Like a guessing game (in spanish we say "adivinanza") with the small paragraph that the little book dedicates for every card. I think that maybe i got 1% of a reading, like... some clue.... anyway, Im hungry for more... I want to learn... do you recomend any book in particular? I would defnetly buy your audio-book!! thank you,thank you again!!!

      +Guido Bossi Reading Tarot in the woods! So awesome! Books are a great resource, but the best way to learn is to keep practicing. It's okay if you don't get more than 1% because you are just beginning to learn -- you must "walk before you can run". 🙂
      I post videos every other week and look forward to hearing about your progress!

    I've just started -- finally!!! -- to revisit your Lenormand videos to learn! And regarding the Tarot, you're totally right regarding gender and ethnicity. That's why I always tried to capture the personality of each card. But you do it better! But I have 2 questions: in your opinion, who could represent a teacher best? A king of swords or a knight of swords? And what about a widower? Also the queen of swords? Ok, ok... a 3rd question 😉: who could represent a divorcee and also someone who chooses to remain single? THANKS!!!

    • @georginatoland
      @georginatoland  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I don’t have Court Card assignments for marital status in my system. If the personality of the person is unknown, I fall back on the old “Kings for mature men and Queens for mature women” or offer the querent their choice of the cards. As to who best represents teachers...that would depend on the subject they teach. Law or sciences? King of Swords. Hospitality? Queen of Wands. Bushcraft? King of Wands. Fine arts? Perhaps the Queen of Cups. Bartender school? King of Cups. Business? King of Pentacles. Real estate? Queen of Pentacles.
      Another consideration: Teaching implies mastery, so only Kings & Queens would be used. (Sorry, Knights!)
      Someone who homeschools their kids would likely be represented by a Queen, since Queens often represent mastery behind the scenes and/or leadership in small, intimate groups.
      One more thought: If I saw the Hierophant appear in a spread, and I was reading for a teacher, I would likely interpret the card as the educational system itself. And the appearance of The Hermit may represent someone that offers private tutoring.

      Georgina Toland Si! Penso lo stesso che tu! Ma, io non parlo quella bellisima lingua molto bene 😦, perche io non sono italiana. Sono mezzo spagnola e mezzo americana. Ho imparato l'italiano molti molti anni fa, quando io era nella Universitá da Siviglia (Sevilla), la mia cittá natale, in Spagna. Adeso non riccordo molto italiano.... 😔 Anch'io ho imparato il tedesco, ma quasi non riccordo niente.... Schade 😦Ich liebe das Deutsche viel. But I hardly remember my German.... so long ago. En realidad, mis dos lenguas nativas son el inglés y el español (castellano, es decir, de España). But you do have a flair for languages! 😉 If you ever see any typos here, just remember my cell's Spanish and I have to keep "teaching" the Spanish spellcheck proper English 😄
