This is quite possibly the most AMAZING video I have seen on the court cards! You have a great way of explaining them that I feel a lot of tarot guides struggle with and as a tarot newbie your 'trainee program' has been very helpful and insightful. I like how you explain the basics and go over them and yet you challenge your viewers to come up with their own interpretations based on their knowledge to expand our own intuition.
I'm so glad i came across your channel, you are very informative and bless you for using your time to share your considerable amount of knowledge on the tarot. Finding this very useful in my journey in learning tarot. Wish there was more hours in the day i'd love to just sit and watch them all in one go : )
I LOVE these videos. Like most people my first tarot deck was Rider-Waite. But soon after that deck was no longer in my reality. - Whilst visiting a friend in Georgia, USA... I was at a little metaphysical shop, and they were selling a Haindl deck. The cover was so pretty and I bought them. - But the symbolism in them is SOOOO subtle that it's really hard to get my head around them. They are really not for beginners. - These classes are really informational. Really easy to digest. And now I don't have to use my deck as a ritual object which doesn't get much attention because it's beyond the scope of my understanding!!!!!
I could watch u all day, ur presentation is so captivating for me as a newby. And ur style & voice makes u very catchy as a teacher/reader. Thank u so much for all the information that you put out to help people like me.
I've been working on this series and I want to thank you so much for doing this. I had never heard of court cards as actual people until my friend picked it up and used this book and started telling me that i'll meet a "young guy with blonde hair and blue eyes who will have the answer" and I just couldn't get behind that idea. I thought i had been doing things wrong this whole time while I was practicing on my friends. I'm really glad you went over this, it confirmed that I can read tarot with my intuition and I don't have to conform to some idea of people cards being actual people. My court card: Knight of Pentacles
Can I just say how much I love your channel? Not only do you know your stuff, but you share your information with such a pleasant, confident, positive energy. You speak clearly and never seem like you're talking down to your audience. I'm mostly interested in your tarot videos, but I find myself watching your other videos on spiritual topics as well, because you present your ideas in such a fun, accessible way. Of all the TH-cam channels that talk about tarot, you, my dear, are my favorite!
At this moment I relate strongest to the page of cups, especially now at the beginning of a focused journey into tarot. I have been working to practice self love and to heal and connect with myself emotionally. I am more confident now than ever before in seeing the path before me to connecting emotionally as well as allowing myself to accept and give love more freely
I pulled this card for myself on the first day I decided to pull a daily tarot card to help study the deck. It was the day after attending a tarot workshop where we all pulled a card for "what we will take away from the workshop" and I pulled the 8 of wands!
I'm so pleased you found the lesson helpful. I actually don't watch other people's readings much.. I guess that's weird. I sometimes listen to a reader talk about one card's meaning and, at times, I have felt it was mechanistic/simplistic, but mostly I think Tarot readers, on TH-cam at least, are expansive thinkers. About changing the meanings.. There is always a core fundamental meaning. But it fits itself to the circumstances. It must keep its core though.
Stayed up till two watching your videos. Thank you for such wonderful guidance! I feel like I have such clearer understanding of minor arcana interpretation. love and light, darling!
I have watched the Trainee video for the Minor Arcana and now this one, you are such a great teacher. After watching the Minor Arcana video, it was like a "light bulb moment" - it started to make sense. I'm totally new to Tarot but your videos have certainly taught me heaps in a totally understandable no nonsense approach. Congratulations.
🦋🦋🦋🦋🦋🦋🦋🦋🦋 You are awesome!! Thank you so much for making these videos . You break this down so much easier than all the books and internet pages I have read. You put it all together very nicely and you really get into the descriptions and your views that make complete sense to me and are actually how I view tarot cards as well. Anyways THANK YOU AGAIN! 😁🦋🦋🦋🦋🦋🦋🦋🦋
Your views on the cards and teaching method are excellent. Ive been using tarot for a very long time and ive never understood my cards better than I do now from your lessons! Thank you so much for sharing your time snd knowledge
I use Thoth Tarot, and I have the hardest time with the court cards, and this lesson has helped. One card I immediately resonated with is the Knight (Kings of Thoth) of Discs. It came to me as representative of my husband immediately. I see him as heroically earthbound, strong, hard working, a protector, and the salt of the earth. I have not found one for myself, I want it to be the queen of cups, but I fear it's more likely the Empress.
You are amazingly, amazingly knowledgeable and thank you so much for spreading this information to us. I'm so glad I found your channel and I've been listening to every word you say. You are very gifted in the way that you explain things. Thanks again!
You're so welcome :) I think it's understandable that the court in Tarot is still the most confusing and intriguing part.. A lot of the ideas put forth in older books are quite restrictive, in my opinion, so it's nice to find a platform where I can put more expansive ideas out there.
Hi, and thanks for the videos. I just watched episode 4 and 5 in this series, and found them quite helpful. I've been intuitively stumbling towards your approach to the Court cards for a while, and it was really nice to hear someone explain this "aspects of the human personality approach" clearly and with detail. These have been the most challenging for me to understand, which is one of the reasons I love the Zen Osho deck so much. Thanks for the lessons, and I'll definitely be watching your channel in the future.
These videos are so helpful. I did the court card challenge, shuffling all and trying to pull the card I resonate with. Did 3 pulls and pulled three pages (not my card). I kept pulling and felt like my card would be left till the end. Sure enough, the last card I was holding was my card. 💁🏼♀️
I just started learning Tarot and during this lesson I said I identify as the queen of cups and when I flipped the cards shuffled them and drew one like you asked the queen of cups was the one that came out. I was amazed at that I couldn’t believe it
You helped me so much to understand the Court Cards. Thank you so much. I really struggled with these but I think I’m getting a handle on their energy.
Thank you for this series of videos, its very helpful. One thing though, it feels from what you are saying, and my own feeling, that pager overall would represent fire, instead of pentacles, since it is more about beginnings, drive, exploration, inspiration and such firey things. Kings would then represent earth, accomplishments, stability, mastery, skill, accumulation. Just my thoughts. Blessings!
Using a significator also removes one card from the deck that might prove useful in the reading. I personally do not use one for this reason and have had no problems with readings without one. Great video :)
I feel like the Queen of wands is a witch. I've pulled her in so many readings for myself as I've been on my journey & I like trying to exude her characteristics. XX
super informative as always.... i am on vacation right now and away from my tarot class notebook, so going to listen to this and take some notes when i get home in a week or so. thnx for another great lesson xo
I just discovered you channel this week, and thank you so much for sharing. You are such a natural teacher. At time more depth, then pulling back to the greater picture. Thank you. :-)
Hello! I'm a late-arrival to your trainee tarot playlist. I've heard many different versions of how the elements are attributed to each courtesan. Initially, it was Pages=Air, Knights=Earth, Queens=Water and Kings=Fire. Then I heard someone say that they switched the correspondences of Knights and Kings so that it looked more like this: Pages=Air; Knights=Fire, Queens=Water, Kings=Earth. Now, the latter version made a bit more sense to me until I came upon your video ... sort of. I like the idea of Pages being Earth as the roots or seeds of a situation. What I'm having difficulty with is Knights being Air and Kings being Fire, mostly because all depictions of Kings that I've come across, they're not moving and so there's a supposition that the movement is occurring in their minds, whereas with the Knights, they are clearly in motion, they're aggressive and courageous and passionate about their causes (as per the old tales of knights). So I'm wondering ... is there any kind of consensus about this in the Tarot community? Or is it a matter of really reading based on the individual Tarot reader's intuition about the elemental correspondences attributed with each member of the court cards? Also ... I am really enjoying this series. I've been reading for a while and I'm learning a lot of new things! Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge and experience with us!
From what I’ve seen, most of the tarot community is split on the knights and kings. Most agree that pages are earth and queens are water. Half say knights are air and kings are fire, and the other half think kings are air and knights are fire. I think knights would be Fire because of the movement/energy/creative/destructive element, whereas kings would be air because they are more intellectually stable and mentally acute at handling challenging situations and people. Kings have to be mentally sharp and on their A game to rule a kingdom. Knights aren’t that stable and can be extreme in one direction or the other. That’s just my opinion though. Do what feels right to you. :)
thank you for this video! you clarified so many aspects that not many people/authors/books talk about. & the comment on the devil "the furry legs have got to go" looool
From my research, most people see Knights as Fire and Kings as Air. do what feels right to you, of course. It's just like how Swords and Wands change elements depending on the tradition.
Thsnk's for this even after years of Tarot I still struggle with the court cards, especially when it comes to deciding whether they represent individuals or a situation. :-)
I have really enjoyed your trainee tarot videos! It definitely has broken things down enough to start grasping the different concepts, may I ask how you feel about the books that accompany a deck? I have a particular deck that I can relate to much more with your explanations but some references in the book are just completely backwards with a negative connotation without depth in explanation...I really like the deck (ethereal visions) but how do you feel about putting the book aside in such early stages of learning? I try to use all of my resources right now (notes, book, first impressions) however I am not retaining or developing a clear understanding.
In the traditional Golden Dawn system the court cards are sub-elemental. Kings ( Crowley renamed Kings knights) are fire, queens water, princes air and princess earth. The king of wands is fire of fire, wands being the suit of fire. The queen of wands is water of fire, The prince of wands air of fire and The princess of wands earth of fire. The king (knight) of cups is fire of water, The queen of cups is water of water, The prince of cups is air of water and The princess of cups is earth of water etc. The court cards represent the four consonants of Tetragrammaton YHVH .Yod =fire Heh= water Vau= Air and Heh final Earth. The court cards also rule decans of the zodiac excluding Princesses. The Princess always goes with her respective Ace. The Princess is the throne of her Ace as Malkuth is the throne of Kether and Earth the throne of Spirit. The Queen of Wands rules the last decan of Pisces (The 10 of cups) and the first two decans of Aries, (The 2 and 3 of Wands) The Prince of Disks (pentacles) rules the last decan of Aries (4 of Wands) and the fist two decans of Taurus, (5 and 6 of Disks) The Knight -king of Swords rules the last decan of Taurus (7 of Disks) and the first two decans of Gemini. (8 and 9 of swords) etc Knights/kings predominate in the mutable signs, Queens predominate in the cardinal signs, Princes predominate in the fixed signs. The 2's 3's and 4's of the small cards are the cardinal signs, The 5's 6's and 7's are the fixed signs and the 8's 9's and 10's of the small cards are the mutable signs. The modern western obsession with race and gender identity is not helpful some things are true. Politics and political correctness has no place in spirtuality. Divination is the least important aspect of tarot and also the most abused.
I agree somewhat (i HATE this pc world) but at the same time we live in a modern world. For example attributing kings to men and queens to women is not realistic as a queen could represent a man with feminine energy and king could represent a woman with masculine energy. Some things will simply not work that way. Another example is i met a guy a few months ago who actually only assigns the court cards to actual kings, knights etc. Which is ridiculous in a modern society.
Hi Kelly, Just a quick question ~ I've seen many books and decks that link the element of Fire to the Knights and not the Kings as you've suggested here. However, I've also noticed that it seems to depend on the presentation of the Court Cards, ie are there princes/princesses or pages/knights ~ are the Kings on horseback or seated, are the Knights on horseback or seated/on foot. In most of my decks the Knights seem to 'fit' better with the element of fire [rather than air], being all action, dynamic and forward moving while the Kings seem to be more cerebral so linking better with the element of air. Are there any hard and fast rules or have I missed the obvious? Thanks for some great videos.... Sharon x
Your overview is much more helpful than what I've heard previously: that pages are children, knights are teenagers, kings are in their 50s or above. I've seen one reader, almost without fail, say something about pregnancy if she sees a page. She also claims to be psychic so that confuses that matter as well. When you watch other people read the tarot do you ever struggle to see where they got what they're saying from in terms of the cards? I do. So one can be intuitive and change the meanings?
I think the court card that best represents me is the Knight of Wands because I can be restless, hot tempered and adventurous. I have been making my way through your tarot training. I liked your minor arcana video where you linked the number of the card with it's suit to start to discern the meaning of the card. This is particularly useful for me because I use the Golden Tarot Visconti-Sforza deck which does not have pictures on the pip cards. I am curious to know what is a reasonable rate to charge for a reading, how much do you charge?
With what you said around 21 minutes in about queens and go onto speaking of kings, I'm wondering if the queen cards are less than the king cards in terms of development. I was thinking of the queen cards as being equal to the king cards when I would do my own readings and wasn't necessarily assigning gender to them when looking at an individual or doing a personal reading, but I also have gotten specifically queen cards when doing a reading for myself, and for my male partner have gotten king cards, so I'm wondering if I am not understanding the hierarchy of the cards correctly, or if there is sexism in the viewing of the cards in this hierarchal way. Thanks for your help!
I don't think any of the courts are more or less in development necessarily but they are distinct stages. The Queen could be seen as the designer and decider of the rules whereas the King could be more of the enforcer and keeper of the rules. If you imagine the court as a person who goes through a four year university degree.. The Page is all the piss and vinegar of the first year - the enthusiasm of levelling up, the desire to learn, the idealism, but also the clumsiness and naivety that comes with just beginning to specialise.. The Knight is the second year - going for it, burning the candle at both ends, stepping up to the responsibility, but also reckless or over-confident at times. The Queen is the third year - this is where the student gets to know their strengths and approaches the learning with more wisdom and steadiness, but the risk here is that they may get stuck in their ways or be unable to see other avenues. The King is the final year, finishing things up and going out into the workforce to make the money, taking the learning and applying it to the real world, having the power to manifest what has been understood. The shadows here could be stress, single-mindedness or emotional distance for the issue. They kind of all need each other. Think of them as mindsets, perhaps. The King needs to think like a Queen sometimes. The Page needs to get into King mindset at times. The Knight can sometimes do with thinking like the Queen.. Does this make sense?
Hi!thank u 4 yr v informative videos u r always v helpful!i get frustrated with myself cod I know the things u been explaining as I tried to study them 4 ages..but yet I know what cards mean but then I struggle to explain what the story is in a reading cos I cant put those meanings in the reality of the reading!v frustrating!how do I get around that?!?
I kind of agree with your view of the court cards as representing clusters of personality traits :). Otherwise it would mean that only mature women can can be popular, self-centered, extroverted, friendly and bitchy as the Queen of Wands, and only young men would be just, rash, idealistic and pushy as the Knight of Swords
I love your videos, but i still struggle with the court cards. I think i struggle with the difference between knights and kings, and with each card having two elements.
Krista Fournier I think that makes more sense to me too. The fiery creative passion seems like a less mature knight, and the cerebral air energy seems more kingly/statesman like. It's all interpretation, you can infer what you like.
I use the thoth deck and I have only 4 court cards. I am going to watch this a couple more times, but I dont think I have the same match up? I have prince, princess, queen, and knight. I thought the prince could be the page but then I'm lost on the king. He cant be the knight and king both?
you're right. in the thoth deck, the court cards are a little different. the princess = the page the prince = the knight the knight = the king here's a good blog i found on the subject tarotamber75.wordpress.com/category/thoth-tarot-by-aleister-crowley-and-frieda-harris/
Thanks so much for the link! I revisited my book of thoth, my astrology, and my knowledge of the qaballah. It seems that the Prince is actually the king, as he is definitely the element of fire, still seated. The knight still represents air, and so would still be the knight. There doesn't seem to be any indication to me that the prince and princess have to be counterparts, as Amber suggested in her article. In all of my studies in all the subject areas involved with thoth, I don't see anything pushing me to pair together the prince and princess. If anything, I appreciate that the progression does start with a woman (princess) advancing to the knight who puts things into action, who graduates to a queen who has a better perspective and lays out a plan and a direction f action, and holds confidence and belief in her power - and then the prince - it sort of takes that wisdom of the queen to put it into action, and "goes backwards" in age to embrace a cyclical nature of power and understanding and dedication, and so on (like the phases of the moon - it becomes it's largest and most illuminating and most powerful right before it continues its journey - and keeps moving forward (even gaining a little youthful energy going back into the prince). I'm hoping to find more interested in the thoth deck. I'd love more feedback, lol. Thank you so much!! Sorry for my rambles
The Court Cards are connected through astrology, not personality. Check out "how to read tarot cards like a pro" on Amazon Kindle. Price can't be beat!
Cathy S My personal view on astrology and Tarot is that it must be seen as an optional lens through which to look at the tool. Astrology is not a key part of my perspective. It is for others, and that's fine. But I can only teach Tarot according to my own interests and attitudes, and I choose to use the tool in alignment with things such as Jung's typology theory, his theory about archetypes, different ideas in the psychology field etc. My perspective isn't for everyone and I applaud and encourage people who wish to link their understanding of Tarot to astrology, but I certainly don't see it as mandatory. The understanding of Tarot is a much broader spectrum than that and everyone must find their place on that spectrum.
The Four Queens Cathy S is a troll who comments incorrect information about Tarot constantly. She is always telling people to buy some book on kindle as if that book is the only thing you should be reading. I've been reading tarot for over 20 years and I agree that astrology has nothing to do with court cards. I've seen people who are pentacles that are born under a water sign. Thinking that astrology has anything to do with the court cards is an amateur mistake.
***** Yes, it's up for interpretation. That is why astrological signs aren't fixed when it comes to court cards. I don't know why you find it necessary to be so rude to me. It's mean.
bbbb27272 First of all, I am NOT a "troll," and I do NOT comment information incorrectly. Why do you think you are so smart, and it's your way or the highway? "I've seen people who are pentacles that are born under a water sign?" What the hell does THAT mean? You don't even know HOW I use astrology in my readings. I learned from a Tarot guru who was very popular in my city. She knew her shit! An "amateur mistake?" Lady, I've got you beat by 20...been reading them for 40 years. I've had many repeat clients, so my readings just might have been right on. One thing my teacher told me is that no two people read Tarot cards the same. Keep that in mind the next time you shoot your mouth off. My way works for me and has worked for many others. As far as that book I've mentioned, I happen to like it. There are others on Amazon that I've read that don't make sense to me. You might like THEM! Other than that, STFU!
a good video BUT have you never heard that LESS is often MORE when it comes down to instructional speaking or lecturing. There is simply TOO MUCH SAID here.
You are amazingly, amazingly knowledgeable and thank you so much for spreading this information to us. I'm so glad I found your channel and I've been listening to every word you say. You are very gifted in the way that you explain things. Thanks again!

Thank you ! Loved it
thank you for this video! you clarified so many aspects that not many people/authors/books talk about. & the comment on the devil "the furry legs have got to go" looool
From my research, most people see Knights as Fire and Kings as Air. do what feels right to you, of course. It's just like how Swords and Wands change elements depending on the tradition.
Very very very useful video!!!!! really... Court cards are hard! thank you.
A really good and insightful video, it certainly helped me find clarity about this subject :)
Thank you so much, you are a great teacher!
Thsnk's for this even after years of Tarot I still struggle with the court cards, especially when it comes to deciding whether they represent individuals or a situation. :-)
I Have loved all of the videos in the series so far but I’m having a really hard time grasping this one
I really loved this thank you xx
this is amazing, thank you!
You're welcome :) I'm glad it helped x
Still watching on 2023.
Very very helpful!!! Thank you!
Hi Kelly,
Just a quick question ~ I've seen many books and decks that link the element of Fire to the Knights and not the Kings as you've suggested here.

Kelly i did your course, then did two readings and it went well, so i guess im successful...haha!
Anybody else feel like this is your favorite class at Hogwarts?
Thanks for sharing 😊
Fantastic video
Thank you for sharing
Blessed be!!
Syker :)
Amazing thank you x
Thank you 😊
With what you said around 21 minutes in about queens and go onto speaking of kings, I'm wondering if the queen cards are less than the king cards in terms of development.
@@kelly-annmaddox This is an incredibly helpful explanation and way of looking at the cards. Thank you so much!
Another useful video! :)
Pages are the "freshmen" of the mystery schools in life?
You're very welcome, daisy chain :)
I love your videos, but i still struggle with the court cards. I think i struggle with the difference between knights and kings, and with each card having two elements.
Thank you!!!
:) Thanks - I'm so pleased it was helpful :)
I had learned that Knights were representative of fire energy, and Kings of air. Does it matter that I learned in a different way?
Krista Fournier I think that makes more sense to me too. The fiery creative passion seems like a less mature knight, and the cerebral air energy seems more kingly/statesman like. It's all interpretation, you can infer what you like.

I use the thoth deck and I have only 4 court cards. I am going to watch this a couple more times, but I dont think I have the same match up? I have prince, princess, queen, and knight. I thought the prince could be the page but then I'm lost on the king. He cant be the knight and king both?
you're right. in the thoth deck, the court cards are a little different.
the princess = the page
the prince = the knight
the knight = the king
here's a good blog i found on the subject tarotamber75.wordpress.com/category/thoth-tarot-by-aleister-crowley-and-frieda-harris/
Sorry for my rambles
please do infect the channel with advanced tarot!

It's mean.
My comment was directed towards Cathy S.
bbbb27272 First of all, I am NOT a "troll," and I do NOT comment information incorrectly.
What's a queerin?
Threeofroses A querent is a person you do a reading for. Someone who asks a question of the tarot.
Im attracted to you(:
You are so politically "correct". Never good.
Actually its very good for when we read tarot in a modern world. Readings will be more accurate.
a good video BUT have you never heard that LESS is often MORE when it comes down to instructional speaking or lecturing. There is simply TOO MUCH SAID here.
You are amazingly, amazingly knowledgeable and thank you so much for spreading this information to us. I'm so glad I found your channel and I've been listening to every word you say. You are very gifted in the way that you explain things. Thanks again!
Thank you xxxx
