I have struggled with court cards for so long. This is the most coherent and incisive explanation I have encountered, I finally feel like I have grasped them fully. Thank you, fantastic content.
This has to be the best explanation of court cards I have found - thank you so much for making it so clear and easy to understand! Looking forward to watching the more in depth videos for each suit. Thanks again!
I struggle with court cards every time I draw one. I just don't understand them. I don't read them as people coming into my life. Thanks for making this video!

I keep coming to this video because it’s so well explained. I’m so happy that you did this video, because court cards were my biggest struggle to grasp as a concept. You’ve simplified it so well, and included the elements. Great job, and thank youuuu ! 💕
Thank you so much for you words and your support, Cameron. I deeply appreciate it and wish you so many wonderful hours studying and using Tarot. :) Blessings. 🌙
Thank you so much for this explanation. I used to mix them up, this gives a clear overview in my opinion. Good to know about the Queen too. The other day, for fun and practice I asked the cards how my cat sees me. I got the Queen of Wands and the Queen of Pentacles. The Queen of Wands, it could be he sees me as someone who has positive energy in general and great to be around. He does like to cuddle more than he used to (have gone through a learning process like everyone, and indeed feel a lot more positive and confident). The Queen of Pentacles might be that he feels I provide everything he needs and that I take good care of him. He loves me (I knew that, but it’s fun to see it in the cards too lol) 😁🥰
This makes soooo much sense thank you!!! You're very talented at teaching logically, I immediately knew what you meant, it was a very pleasant experience.
im so thankful that i found your page- this really helped me understand them all . i did my first querent reading yesterday( i just started tarot) and i LMAOOOO i skipped over the queen of cups bc i didnt know how to integrate it into the reading- i was also a bit nervous bc the reading had alot going on and i dont use spreads so i really had to use my intuition 😭. but everyday im gaining more confidence/experience , thank you
First video I saw in the channel and I'm enjoying so far. I think I'm gonna stick around :) Thank a lot for this. I see most of the times the Kings associated with Fire 🔥 energy instead of Air, although it makes sense them to be the Airy aspect of they suit and have the Knights associated with Fire 🔥 and more active. Knights are more willing to take action then the Kings so yeah I agree with you.
Good morning, Anya! I'm a new sub and I'm finding your instruction very, very helpful. I'm going to be painstakingly watching your teaching videos and I'm sure I'll learn a lot. You are a gifted teacher and I'm thrilled that I found you. Thanks, so much!

I do have hang ups with the courts and honestly I think it's because visually I find the courts a bit boring 😳 except for the queen of wands and pents. This was a really good video, I wish I'd have had it when I was first learning, you've made the courts very approachable 😊
Heeey Anya! you’ve made it! I just now found out it. (and have wathced through it 😆) I didn’t expect you’d make this series ever since I kind of poked you in the numerology video 😂 I’m so happy and this was enormously helpful! ❤️ thank you so much! there is something special in your teaching that makes things understandable in a calm but sharp way! (what a watery airy energy 😊) I guess I’ll be mastering all of your tarot vids as far as I can take my time although it could take long. thanks for your endeavour!
It makes me so happy I found your channel! I am just starting with tarot and your videos in this playlist is very informative and helpful. Thank you, Anya! ☺️
Such a nuanced yet clear discussion! Though I was aware (in an abstract way) of the intersections of, say, the Queen of Swords (water + air) I had been struggling somewhat to make them applicable in terms of where/why they might show up in a reading. Your video just gave me loads of ideas that will help me expand my personal perspective (and isn't that what helps things solidify in the first place!) Also, I really loved the point you made about what elements/characteristics a given card might NOT include by definition... Knight of Swords potentially lacks or could do with balancing their actions with earth and water characteristics, for example. It's one of those cases where I am happy to feel silly that I had not thought of that... if that makes any sense. :)
Unfortunately not! It's just something I've put together from own experience and probably some other sources and things I've heard. So I don't know if there is a book that does it similarly.
This video and series is so amazing! I've learned so much, and am so happy to integrate these ideas into my own readings. Thank you! Hopefully we can see a series on the major arcana soon!!! :)
You said with Pages that they have Earth energy which is initiative, but Earth energy is not initiative? It's passive like Water energy, isn't it? (and in astrology Earth is fix... eh, what is it in english... fixed? (don't know if that's the english therm)). It confuses me, I've thought Pages would be associated rather with Fire because they are described as initiative. Anyway - I haven't commented on any of your videos yet but I'm following you for a while now already and I love your videos a lot, going to watch the more detailed videos for Court cards now :)
Thanks for commenting! I mean that earth energy is initiatory - as in, laying the groundwork for something and getting down the basics. So it's true that it's different from the initiative, impulsive energy of fire. :) But yeah, using that word was a bit confusing, I see your point!
OMG!!!Great video!!🤗 New subscriber!! You deserve more followers!! Although I must say that I clicked only because of the thumb nail- the A.Mucha cards,i just bought them and find quite hard to shuffle-they are thicker than I'm used to.Any tips on that?!🤔 Love to you all 💗
Thank you! :) I think it just takes you some time to get used to the thicker cards or maybe you can change your technique for this deck. I usually just do an overhead shuffle, which works well for any deck!
@@AnyaEsma thank you i sometimes forget to Google stuff🙊.Really like your explanation for the characters of the court cards.I already figured some stuff on my own by experience-some things i can't find in my books or online,it's usually just basic so thank you.

Hello. I was looking for how to read a Jack in cartomancy. Or more I want to know what it would be? A knight.....or a page. I'm not sure if you explained. ( only because Im distracted by the fact that I've meet you, somewhere at some time ) You might remember me as a young man named "Cactus" . No big deal if you don't! '=} . Because I'm not "trolling" or interested in anything at all, but to say that Its good to see you again, and in your power/element+ doing well. I'm sure I've some more to gain from your insightful and competent videos. Bye bye. Blessing to ONE n' ALL. ( your at the top of my list, for this round )
Sure, you could say that, since the elemental mix is the same. But I think it does express itself differently. Intuitively, I'd say: The King of Cups lives in the realm of water and sees it through the lens of air energy. So he may be very in touch with his emotions and be able to articulate them very well. The Queen of Swords lives in the realm of air and sees it through the lens of water. So she is outspoken, strong-willed, communicative with a hint of emotions in all of that. There's a lot of depth to that discussion, but I hope this little rant made sense. 🫶
That's up to your intuition. You can read it as a blocked positive energy (e.g. you draw 4 of Swords and read it as your ability to rest is blocked) or you can read it as the more negative "upside down" energy (e.g. you draw 4 of Swords and read it as defeat or as having rested rather than fought for too long). It really depends on the context and your own intuition!
I would not say the court cards represent energies. Not because they don't, they do, but in the same way that every card or really any idea expresses such a thing. I think it's too vague. I instead would say that they represent people, but because they represent people they can also represent attitudes. 16 cards are not going to represent people in their entirety. Instead they represent a way a person could be at any one time. Therefore, it could represent either a person outside of yourself or an aspect of yourself. Also on the gender part, this is how the Golden Dawn saw it actually, and Waite was a member obviously. They didn't think these were literal men and women, or that women were always nourishing and recieving, or men were always projective, but it was just a way of communicating that concept of something projecting and something recessive. Like hwo male and female is used to describe electrical plugs, even though it has nothing to do with sex or gender apart from a visual metaphor. To illustrate that concept with a clear physical thing we're all familiar with is sorta smart. Perhaps it could be done with genderless characters via body language or other imagery, but using gender is a decent manner of communicating the idea I like the idea of using Yin and Yang, perhaps someone could in theory make a black on white deck, and the gendered figures are instead represented as mostly black or white figures of uncertain gender, that would associate them with either Yin or Yang, and this would give the same idea, in just as clear a manner, without binding it to something unrelated like gender
Depends on the context and topic. Could be that a lot of people are involved or that a lot of different parts of myself/the person I read for are in play. But yeah, absolutely depends on the spread in the end.
hello there slavic sister (are you slavic? total assumption on my part, i just felt something familiar in your energy). might i ask where you got that fabulous top? 👀👀

Good explanation. Reading the gender of cards is valid as archetypal energy bc there is a strong difference between masculine and feminine energy and people. All humans have both energies and there are only two..masculine and feminine so let’s not get hung up on gender identification which is sexuality
Don't watch it if it makes you this angry that you have to leave a snappy comment. 🤭 People say over and over that court cards represent people. Undoing that programming can bear some repetition.

Shouldn't the king of cups be a kittle bit like the queen of swords?
Sure, you could say that, since the elemental mix is the same. But I think it does express itself differently. Intuitively, I'd say: The King of Cups lives in the realm of water and sees it through the lens of air energy. So he may be very in touch with his emotions and be able to articulate them very well.
The Queen of Swords lives in the realm of air and sees it through the lens of water. So she is outspoken, strong-willed, communicative with a hint of emotions in all of that. There's a lot of depth to that discussion, but I hope this little rant made sense. 🫶
If one of the cards in your spread is " what is blocking you " is that card read as if it is upside-down?
That's up to your intuition. You can read it as a blocked positive energy (e.g. you draw 4 of Swords and read it as your ability to rest is blocked) or you can read it as the more negative "upside down" energy (e.g. you draw 4 of Swords and read it as defeat or as having rested rather than fought for too long). How do you read it when a whole bunch of court cards come up in one reading?
