I use a lot of expensive cameras for work (Canon R3, Sony A7RV, Leica S007). I could choose anything for my personal camera, I chose the Fuji X-S20 as my main camera for MY shooting: every day carry, family, travel, the photos that are the most important to me. This is the camera I want to shoot with.
C1 Mode Recall. Assign it to the useless record button next to shutter button. Problem solved. Set C1 to whatever you want including Aperture priority to have automatic exposure control with exposure compensation to adjust.
@@LucaPetraliaPhotography not sure what you mean. I have it set perfectly. On my 2 xh2s I have them set to video as default then with a tap of that button it swaps right into photo mode and I can snap snap snap then tap the button and right back to video.. then on my xh2 I have it default to photo and with a tap of the button it goes right to video mode.. I have had zero issues and it works better than the dial on my xt4s.
Awesome review on the camera Luca! I love my XH2s!! PS either you or maybe Pal2Tech guy mentioned that Single Point CAF works better than Zone CAF when shooting fast birds in flight wildlife etc. I’ve tried that on my last 2 outings, and I think I agree. My keeper rate is higher and the shots seem a bit sharper. I have done zone CAF for wildlife for the last 2 years. Ultimately I think when Fuji film send out a Fix for their hiccup on the last 2 firmware updates for AF they’ll get it fixed, or maybe rolled back to the original CAF.
Thank you, I agree with you on all aspects. I do have some issues now however with the lensmount and communication on my 150-600 lens. And when the camera froze, it was , as you said, always on the same settings. But unfortunately it was the exact frame I wanted to get, and it was with the native Fuji 18-120 lens, my walkaround lens. I had high hopes when switching to his camera, not all were fulfilled, especially in wildlife photography, but it did provide me with a more creative approach to my pictures overall.
Was there a recent update to improve the face tracking autofocus once again? Do you know which version exactly was the previous one where it worked fine?
Great video, @Luca! I only shoot photos of my family as a hobby, so my use case is very limited. I switched from a Canon 5D (with several "L" lenses) to a FujiFilm X-H2s in October 2022. Overall, I've been very happy with the full range of capabilities. I agree with all of your points, and even the Autofocus issues have not been much of a problem for me. I think if I had to make the switch today, I would probably still make the same choice.
I am glad you made this video, so I don't have to. It's a shame because I think the xh2s has sooo much potential but Fuji is not able to use that potential to make this camera a no brainer. Thats the reason for me to switch to sony. I need reliable AFC in Video and I don't get it from fuji, I need a good stabilization for video but as you mentioned if I use it as a tripod its good but if you move just a little bit its bad. If I could go back in time I rather would have purchased the A74. Yes 4k 60fps with crop and 120fps in FHD but with an apsc camera you have that crop anyway and let's be honest...the 120fps in 4k is not really good (and AFC is even worse). For that price I paid for it I think the A74 would have been a better choise. And as I said it's so sad because I FEEL that the xh2s could be better.
I am on the other side of the fence... For the price, the A7IV isn't enough of a video camera for me. And if I'm being honest, the AF issues haven't impacted my end product that much with the X-H2S. Ok top of that, I hate color grading, and with Fuji I found my sweet spot with a baked in look that doesn't require post production (for video). That is a huge time saver for me
Nikon now offers z6 iii in the same price range which is a full frame camera with partially stacked sensor delivering better image quality and more stable autofocus performance. Among wild life photographers almost all the Fuji users I know intend to switch to another brand because of insufficient lens options.
There are only 3 systems i would consider for lens options and camera features. Sony, Nikon, and Fuji. The added reach you get from a crop sensor cannot be understated. The only cameras that give you a comparable result are the flagship A1, Z9 and Z8, which are larger and more expensive packages when factoring in lenses. The z6 iii does not give you the reach you want for a comparable price. Try shooting tiny birds / animals with the z6 iii and 180-600 (which is heavier by a substantial amount) and doesn't give as much reach (24mp sensor cropped in to apsc results in significantly lower resolution vs the fuji). Image quality is a non issue at this point, every camera has fantastic image quality, if anything many people are adding filters to make the sharpness worse because images are too clinical. 200 f2, the soon to be released 500 f5.6, 150-600, 100-400, 70-300 (not counting the third party options!)... what do you mean insufficient lens options? No there isn't a 400 f2.8 or 600 f4, most people will never buy a lens like that. The only thing that sucks about fuji is the autofocus, and it wasn't that long ago that nikon sucked with AF too. GAS is an issue that inflicts a lot of photographers, best to just get out and shoot what you have.
@@koryhawes2548Sony cripples 3rd party lenses on purpose so they’re off my list. Nikon doesn't make an APS-C body worth owning yet. So it is Canon basically. The 200-800 is an interesting option for FF wildlife shooting but sadly not an "L" lens.
@@matt88169 yeah not a fan of Sony restricting the FPS, but it has gotten better. I think they are at 15 FPS for third party now. I know a person who has the 200-800, he does not like it. I also am not a fan of external zoom. I had plenty of them from 100-400, 70-300, and 150-600. They all gather dust inside the lens no matter how good the weather sealing is. I would only go prime or internal zoom when dealing with long focal lengths. Nikon has the best wildlife lenses, makes it really tempting to switch.
I agree on the dials. Losing the button capability was a disappointment. I also wish the company would bring back the ability to jump out of focus peaking with a half press of the shutter. I think all the newer bodies have lost that feature. There are some features of the X-T5 that would help as well: let the user disable the wrap-around of the focus point and allow the user to customize the view mode options.
Buongiorno Luca.
I have read a few comments on various sites that some of the most severe auto-focus issues might be related to an AI-based subject detection "enhancement" that was rolled in to a firmware update.
