Appreciate your thorough review. I am interested in using this camera as a webcam. Do you recommend using a dummy battery when using it as a webcam? Or, is there another setup to ensure the camera stays on when using it as a webcam?
Don't worry about the battery. You will be connecting the camera with a USBC cable, that will provide all the juice. I went for over an hour, no overheating or issues at all. Just remember to disable the auto turn off and you will be going without issues
Can we get sharp portraits and landscape photos in day light and night time with XM5 without stabilization and non stabilized lenses, because all good sharp prime lenses are non stabilized? or Sony a6700 is good option instead?
Portraits don't take advantage of the stabilization that much, as people move and you need to freeze their movement anyways. As for landscape... For serious stuff I use tripods even with stabilized bodies. The one thing you may find difficult to do is having a waterfall showing the typical long exposure look in the water without a tripod. Something that in some cases you can do with stabilized lenses/cameras
Luca, really this the best video reviewing the x-m5 i've seen on youtube! Not because of spectecular Photos and so on, but because you really tested the camera. Fujifilm can really rely on your advice and experience. I am also completly on your side that it won't be a gamechanger for vloggers. It is a camera which can perform in many situations. Mine arrived Yesterday and for the first impression it is really great. (Sold my x-t30 mark I) I am only a little bit unsure which OIS-Lens is the best for that tiny beauty. I got the 15-45 in the Kit, but also have the 18-55 which is more premium. In case of stabilization which lens would you suggest?
Thanks for your feedback! Glad the thorough testing slowed in the video. As for the lenses, the 18-55 is better, butt don't dismiss the 15-45. I happen to like that lens. It weighs nothing, it's powerzoom, and it's not bad at all optically. I don't remember which one of the two has better stabilization, to be completely honest
@ Right. Unbelievable. Such a popular focal length, extremely popular for landscapes and street… and having the Fuji f2 which is not decent at all. Whoever does will take our money.
I conclusion…., If it had a viewfinder I would definitely get this camera and stop looking for an X100V or VI. I’m going to wait for an X-T6 and see what it has to offer over my trusty X-T4 which still takes the same quality images that it did when I got it a few years ago (yes, I’m being sarcastic). Good to see you Luca, have a great weekend.
The z30 doesn't compete with this in any way shape or form. Light years behind the X-M5. The competitors are the ones I mentioned, but as a hybrid tool the X-M5 kicks their a**es
Yes, but it's old and you can clearly see it from the video specs. The Olympus doesn't even have h265 options, so yes it may cost the same, but it's far from being as complete as the X-M5. Stabilization is a good thing, don't get me wrong, but these camera serve two different purposes
@@LucaPetraliaPhotography I got mine X-M5 and tested it against the video on mine E-P7, with the crop in the DIS for the E-M5, the video quality ended up worse than the E-P7. I was going to sell the E-P7 and replace it with this. However, I ended up selling the E-M5 instead (for a profit).
With all due respect sir, i know you are a professional photographer whom opinions always valid because of his vast experience than us but for me why would i pick this over a 1200 euros high-end smartphone you get bigger screen and better shutter lag (stacked CMOS sensor) and better battery and charging speeds like new soon to launch globally in Europe from a company that starts with a V and users with video oriented needs they can get better value and quality in phone any day of the week under 2000 euro or usd in a smartphone for the company that starts with a X cause their phone has both photography kit for adding ND filters and 1 inch senor variable aperture can be modded (DCG16 mod) to capture in raw format up to 4k60fps using an specialized app something similar to Dual Gain Output like Canon c70 that costs €4,020.67 body only i didn't factor lenses cause it would unfair cause there ways to mount lenses on phone nowadays like what they are doing with movie "28 years later" it was shot on an apple phone i think we have to seriously reimagine what constitute a good camera or good value camera in upcoming years
there is really no comparison between an apsc camera image and a smartphone. It's something you wouldn't fully get unless you had access to it. The smartphone is not even close. No smartphone is.
@@thatsreallyamoon i have an old but good aps-c EOS M original its perfect compact and good w/ 22m f/2.0 in low light and day for me compared to old 2016 phone cause i can denoise raw in a pc app to get excellent pictures my concern is stagnation and laziness aps-c nowadays is recycled mess why should i if upgrade i have seen a mega comparison between all mega flagships camera phones but he added to mix a wild card a zv-e10 mark 1 with sigma 18-50 which is great sharp lens but image quality that came was decimated all the phones at every zoom range, the post processing on high end phones is immaculate no matter how good aps-c lens you have ,still needed a good new senor to resolve all those details high end phone > budget mirrorless aps-c even with good lens
That's exactly what I said. I don't think there's a huge market for this type of cameras if they target them to vloggers or content creators. But this is a very good camera for general purpose use for those who don't want to be using their phone all the time

@LucaPetraliaPhotography Thank you! Detailed answer.
I agree with you on the photography aspect. Really sick of reviewers that say this is v-log oriented and ignoring how much it has for stills.
Thanks

I'm not sure whether I should buy this one or the Sony a6400. What would you suggest?
The a6400 is very old. I'd go for this without thinking, or the zve10 mII if you like Sony better
Do you still want to keep your Ricoh(s) when you have the X-M5 and the 18 and 27?
I sold mine already, but the X-M5, the 27mm and the 18mm aren't mine. But if I had them, I wouldn't look at the Ricoh
18mm f2.0 screams for a refresh
Notice that not even Viltrox or TTArtisan, 7Artisan, Sigma, Meike or anyone else makes a AF 18mm pancake either. I don't get it.

Thanks Enrique! This one may not be for you, but it's a good good camera
X-E5 comes next summer, finally ! X-Pro 4 will follow I guess...
Nikon z30 is the competitor but xm5 outperforms it
Sony ZVe10, ZVe10II, Canon R50, R10

@@LucaPetraliaPhotography I wonder how the X-E5 would be 🤔
@amermeleitor IMHO, an X-T50 with rangefinder style... If they ever make it
Maybe your video should be titled “The XM5 is so much more than FUJI thinks it is”.
Maybe it should😅
The Olympus E-P7 is stabilized. It is almost identical in price although it is a M4/3.
